Well, when Bitcoin was the only one, it grew many times. When Bitcoin was 1 among thousands, it still managed to grow many multiple times.

I don't think x100 is impossible, but perhaps not in the next 10 years or even 50 years. 100x from now is only 400k. McAfee thinks it will be $1 million in 2020 so obviously there is no shortage of believers.

what you are missing is the fact that people never took their money to invest elsewhere. they invested in bitcoin then used the bitcoin to invest in altcoins. in other words altcoins exist because of bitcoin not the other way around, people wanted alternative ways of making profit on their bitcoins so the altcoin pump market was created.

This is an innocent thought. The market capitalization of all altcoins is now several times larger than bitcoin. If all the altcoins are dead then maybe the crypto market will fall apart. No, I don't think that way. I don't think all the altcoins will die anymore. Because every day a new project is released. And the number of new altcoins in the market every day is increasing. Because the market needs altcoins too as well as Bitcoin. We cannot evaluate the entire crypto world only through Bitcoin. So even if I don't think that it will happen, if all the altoins die someday, Bitcoin price will have a fall instead of an increase.

If god forbid something happens to all altcoins it means bitcoin will be affected from it as well and will probably be a lot lower in price than it is today if even exists at all. What could possibly happen that would make bitcoin go up in price whereas it also kills all the other altcoins? I can't think of any reason that could happen.

It would be really world ending type of stuff that goes around that can manage to kill all these altcoins that is run by p2p systems. You would have to pluck every single person that is using those wallets and exchanges as well from those coins to manage that. If you can manage that, there is no bitcoin too, something that destroys 2000+ coins won't stop when its bitcoins turn.

In my opinion, altcoins contribute to the development of bitcoin and the growth of its value. But on the other hand, the lack of alternatives and the limited number of coins will increase the value of the coin because of the small offer.

Some of the altcoins are backed by existing working projects. So the question is too hypothetical, as for me. If all cryptos die, they all die. BTC won't be an exception. Such an unlikely scenario anyway. They can fall in prices, that's true.

if this really happens then there are only 2 possibilities, bitcoin rises sharply or drops sharply and both have a 50:50 possibility because as you say. there are no other coins as price balancers (altcoins). Because most likely people start to be careful and afraid of bitcoin being a fraud. So if most of them choose FIAT it will make price decreases so sharply.

Bitcoin can be stand alone and yes bitcoin was the lead and number one coin and of course it will still alive and it will never die and to those altcoin not all of them will die but some of those lack of investor and not enough knowledge  those are one of dying altcoins but not all will die.

But assuming that starts to happen, I think a lot of people at first will be scared. You just wake up in the morning altcoins begins to disappear in the market from the lowest and going up the list everyday, you would be afraid and will even withdraw the money you have in Bitcoin cause you will think Bitcoin will do the same. But after all the altcoins are gone and Bitcoin is still there and at a cheap rice, a lot of people will rush it and within few days the price will multiply in huge numbers and price will be very high.

Ofcourse, you are right. Such questions should be ignored because altcoins is what investors are focusing more than Bitcoin, because they want to buy it for cheaper prices and wait for long-term which will be successful after few years. Eth is very popular in altcoins and most of the transactions are in progress as well. Functioning only in BTC will not give you a good profit, competition should be there in any field.

I think future is all mystery, no one will know for sure what will happen, it could goes like last year where the price of bitcoin rise so much or even has no value at all. We all doesn't know that.

I think it will not happen like that. If all altcoins die Bitcoin will also die, but obviously it will not happen. Cryptocurrency is very strong and it has lived for 10 years, nothing can kill crypto, including the governments.

It is hard to say because I think the altcoin helps bitcoin to rise higher and the present of the altcoin will also help us to gain more bitcoin in trading. For sure it will raise to 100x, because if you have only one crypto currency left, it will boost to the moon within several days. But I think this scenario is not going to happen, because we have a lot of altcoins that are going to replace BTC in the future.

Even if Bitcoin is left alone and there is demand for it, it will not grow much in price. And if you look at the truth, now there are a lot of good altcoins, who will not get anywhere from the market.

Altcoin have expanded the scope of cryptocurrency. We can now use cryptocurrency in different sector and for many case use from logistics to AI to machine learning to sport. The future of cryptocurrency is central to economy of other technology like robotic, communications and machandize!

I don't think so, the reason why most coins and even bitcoin price is alive is because of the competition between bitcoin and other coins. Definitely.... But an x100 increment may be expecting too much. Bitcoin will increase rapidly as its demand will be way too much compared to supply. Considering the fact that it will be the only cryptocurrency needed for many transactions, it could become scare leading to a serious control in price by holders invariably leading to a much increased price. For me if altcoins die it would mean that blockchain technology is worthless and BTC would not be as popular as it is, as the first cryptocurrency. All the alts are in strong correlation with BTC.

They have good market support system in place.i can not imagine the scenario of having one coin in crypto market...it no longer a crypto market if you have only one coin active? what kind of transaction is that..monopoly? the crypto digital market is centralized, no one is control except the generality of consumers investors.no market will excess with only one coin.

Altcoins can't die, a several of them is too huge for disappearing in one moment, but if alts die (in another universe :D), than I guess BTC will become more stable crypto and growing potential will be much more than x100.

Judging from other btt users' post, i've learned that altcoin is one of the reason why people stop investing in bitcoin. It would be nice to see bitcoin price increasing but on the other hand, some altcoins deserve to be exist as they have great technology even better than bitcoin like Ethereum with its smart contract and Nano with its instant transaction.

it seems that it will be difficult to happen because this altcoin will not die easily and some altcoins will also become very large and have a platform project that is very useful for many people. and if that happens then only the remaining bitcoins will remain so that it will increase the price of bitcoin to more than what happened when the year ended 2017.

If all altcoins were to magically die overnight, Bitcoin would be so clogged with transactions that it would be unusable. Even now, I transact way more with altcoins than I do with Bitcoins. If feel like BTC needs then to survive.

Exactly, the situation is now different. I don't think that bitcoin will survive if all altcoins will die. Firstly, it's impossible at all. Secondly, I think that altcoins can survive without bitcoin. Bitcoin is like an index now. He shows feeling of the market. Nobody uses it for sending money or other operations. As for me, rising in 100 times is impossible, so the price should be 370.000$ per 1 bitcoin which I think is crazy.

It can easily rise and above, but all the Altcoins will not go anywhere. Theoretically, Bitcoin can cost $ 1,000,000 and it is only a matter of time.

Many people invest in altcoin, and if the altcoin is dead then people will lose a lot and they will lose confidence in this market. Look at the year 2018 when the ICO became a scam, the market went down horribly

I dont think that this will never happen onyl bitcoin in the cryptocurrency. There is one coin for the fast transactions, one coin for the less fee for transactions, one coin give more stake (POS). Some coins have some speacial skills and people prefer to invest these coins for these skill because bitcoin stay background on some situation.

I don't think it would not be happen altcoins born because of bitcoin. If altcoin will die so bitcoin also will die and there will be no 100X for its value to increase to that level.

I think Bitcoin certainly can not become the only electronic currency to survive because Bitcoin has a lot of defects compared to other currencies. The slow pace and low supply are the limitations of Bitcoin.

It will not happen. When Bitcoin was the only one cryptocurrency, it was very cheap. When its forks and some other altcoins appeared, it was not very expensive as well. I do not think that it can affect BTC price.

The price of bitcoin can grow insanely only if all altcoins start dying slowly, then all investors owning altcoins start selling them for bitcoin, all the money will be in bitcoin which will give incredible growth.

If that happens eventually then all attention shifts to bitcoin,  leaving it to slow transactions  per seconds, leaving the price to be stable but making the space so un-interesting because obviously,  FOMO will vanish.

it seems like not, if all altcoins die then bitcoin will definitely be abandoned. no one will invest in bitcoin / cryptocurrency. so the price of bitcoin will not rise, even if it can be destroyed

I think not, Altcoin creates a diverse ecosystem for crypto. And if that ecosystem dies, everything will go away, and if all the altcoins die, I think the BTC will follow them.

I think it is impossible that all coins will disappear and only Bitcoin will remain. There is no way back, and crypto-currencies have already become popular, many projects that have their own working product / technology, which bring some benefit to society. The popularity of some altcoins (Ethereum, TRON, NEO for instance) is so great that even if something happens to Bitcoin, they will live with their own life. Additionally, I want to say that BTC will not die.

All I see is that bitcoin has a bad effect on altcoins.

Bitcoin as the lead of cryptocurrency but bitcoin also need altcoins to develop and maybe if altcoins dead then eventually bitcoin also will dead and between them it can not be separated until whenever bitcoin and altcoins will always be together
