We all saw that coming yesterday. it was obvious that ethereum will pass XRP after a huge market surge last year late december on XRP. As of November 25 last year, XRP was capped at $13,998,356,446 and eth was $11,158,159,719. it clearly shows that ripple has gone ahead of  ethereum. the sudden change looks like its related to the ethereum hard fork schedule in this january. lets hope it maintains its support.

I second this, ETH deserved the 2nd place. I think it is just a temporary slide off from 2nd position due to the fuds going on. Lucky, it didn’t take too long for ETH to return to number 2.

It seems to me that no one doubted this, because the market is already actively beginning to invest in the cryptocurrency industry. I hope that today cryptocurrencies will seriously improve the situation on the market of the entire global financial market.

I've look the market price early this morning and it still in the 3rd place but it actually change right now.
It is pretty obvious that people whave still giving trust even this coin is a cause of many ICOs fails. The continuous uprising trend of Eth will help for market recovery and bring back into $500, hopefully.

The battle between ethereum and ripple continue and I, think ripple will try every chance to raise their position to get back to the 2nd place. But I don't think that ethereum will easily to give up with the ripple and I am sure that ethereum will defend their position. It will continue for this week, and I wonder who will be the second place in coinmarketcap. But I have a strong feeling that ethereum can defense the 2nd place this year.

This is nothing to be surprising but I am amazed that ethereum did not take too long to take out the crown to ripple that long. This could be because of the incoming hardfork where most of us wanted a free altcoin which will be above $10 each coin for sure. This might be a bad news for ripple and only a proof that ethereum will always be the king of all altcoins.

Since when "ETH normal price is 0.1 BTC/ETH"? Is it ETH price when it was on ICO (Did ETH even had ICO?). ETH was reached 0.1+ only in 2018 back then (May or March IIRC).


Many  ICOs fail aren't because ETH's fault. That's because those aren't legit ICOs and scam their investors money.

Maybe it's true if this is related to Hardfork? Last night I read and I can make conclusions and maybe also the question that ethereum will take in its position. Well, it turns out it's true and I think a very good achievement welcomes the beginning of 2019. :)

ethereum has a very large level of trust from the digital currency community. many people believe in ethereum because the coin is used on many Ico projects, by looking at the summary that makes the volume of ethereum transactions very high. we are all optimistic that when we have investments in ethereum, it will increase the income we have. this is a long-term investment, now the graph has started to increase and all of us who have ethereum will certainly benefit.

As far as I know, it happened yesterday too. Amd again Eth lost its value. Anyway, I think ETH definitely should be the 2nd crypto. By the way, it's time to put some bucks in XRP if you want some quick profit. Soon, I believe XRP will again reach at the 2nd position with a little hype.

Market Cap is still so close with XRP but I also hope Eth will be doing better from now on. But it feels XRP will be having improvements too.

As the hard fork of Ethereum is about to usher in January, the price of ETH has risen rapidly. I am looking forward to the price of ETH going up to new heights.

I knew it won't take long for ethereum to take back its position. This issue has happened a couple of times and eth still got back to no. 2. I told people that were losing hope on ETH because of XRP taking number 2 position, I said its just temporary. It's nice and encouraging, let's hope for ethereum price increase now.

Ether is one of the most flexible and popular cryptocurrencies. It is able to perform all the same functions as Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dash, Ripple. In my opinion, 2nd place rightfully belongs to Ethereum.

It deserve to be there after all its been there for the longest time and it just reclaimed its position. I still doubt whether this is the start of the new run since this could just be the result of the Fork plan which people wants to receive these forked tokens. XRP will still be on top though.

Nope, I don't think XRP will get #3 so easily. ETH become #2 because of the rumor for the Constantinople upgrade and people buying it and sell once the Constantinople has done upgraded.

lol...Ripple really had a good run last year with its price reaching above $0.7 and then it retraced to where it is now. Now, ETH has taken over its original spit and there are going to be upgrades this year. I think the price increase comes because of the constantinople update that is imminent. Hopefully, ethereum can hold the 2nd place after the update.

Yes the sudden spike was due to the news of the Constantinople going live, so it's a good day for Ethereum holders as the price goes up from the last all time low of $90 to $150 as we speak. It's still a far cry from its previous all-time-high but at least it's a good sign that Ethereum is back at the number two spot and hope it can maintained its positive even after the fork so that investors confidence will be back that might push the price even further.

Just keep XRP since it is still in the top of best tokens in marketcap, XRP have a higher chance to follow everything if Bitcoin starts its run in the future. We will just have to hold the rest of our tokens just in case bull run start to come. It is better to accumulate as much as we could of these tokens for future run. Nobody knows when is that but it is better to be prepared.

I think that the rate of Ether should grow by at least 30% by the next hard fork because of reduction of reward. The growth of the Ether will also be positively influenced by Ethereum Classic Vision coin, because its developers will give to the owners of Ether their coins (3 ETCV for each 1 ETH).

Whatever you call it, Ethereum is the best altcoins in the market, and being the best does not mean exempted to bad market days, what makes it best is it has able to recover and now sitting again to where it's suppose to be sitting.

Noting stays permanent in any spot because the market is moving, but I still think that ETH deserves to be the no. 2 compared to XRP.

There were several coins that isn't going up though. Almost all in the top 100 coins are rising in green. Disappointing to see the coins I got didn't follow the trend. Holders would wait for these token's development updates will make its volume bigger I guess.

Is this an effect due to the issue before Hardfork? I was quite happy because my favorite coin finally proved good growth. many speculate that ethereum will plunge deeper, due to poor growth over the past 6 months.

Yes I am starting to wonder if this will be the year for ETH? In the past 30 days Ethereum has risen almost 80% from its original low since the last bull run. I also read earlier that it is driving BTC, and ripples prices up as well. With new projects coming out everyday, pretty soon the demand for ETH will catch up to BTC. Indeed Ethereum must return and be the best after Bitcoin. It seems that Ethereum's trip will be more challenging because we have a good chance when the price of Ethereum reaches its lowest point in December. ETH and XRP keep flipping between the no. 2 and 3 spots frequently. This is no big deal and nothing much to see.

After a few days ago there was a decline in prices, especially for Ethereum and XRP. Ethereum returned to third place because the XRP coin returned to the second level. And this is very good because the competition is very tight. XRP is a coin that has very good growth. If the condition of Ethereum does not immediately rise again, of course, XRP will be an attraction for large investors.

I wouldn't be too confident and staying at number 2. I do prefer to see ethereum above the centralised ripple but i remember the last ripple pump in which it doubled in a matter of weeks and flew past ethereum. Hopefully this constatinople fork will deliver better TPS and bring more useful dapps to the platform

A couple of days ago Ethereum again came in third, but I think it's because the hard fork was postponed due to critical vulnerability. In February, after a hard fork Ethereum will rapidly overtake Rpple in capitalization.

Ripple come back to the second position at CMC and beat ethereum again. The gap of the marketcap is too big, and I am not sure that ethereum can beat ripple again. If ethereum wants to beat ripple, then they need time before the position will change again and I don't think that it will happen in the short time. Meanwhile, Litecoin and TRON still compete for each other, and I wonder what will happen later because if Litecoin replaces by TRON, then it will be interesting to see what will happen in the market.

Today Ripple again in second place, but the gap between Ripple and Ethereum is small. I'm sure the field "Constantinople" Ethereum very quickly picks up capitalization and its separation to be increased significantly. I believe that Ethereum deserves the second place in the cryptocurrency market.

The thread was created almost a month ago, by that time the price of ethereum gave a sudden pump and reached the second position. Thought that the price will continue to grow, but to the expectation the growth didn't sustain for a long time. All of the sudden once again the price started to move downwards and came back to the third place. Now it sits firmly on the third place without moving up.

It is amazing how the market competes, even ETH have its strong support but still it can't move as it shown before. For now, Ripple still on the move over ETH and it could possible for ETH to surpass Ripple if Bitcoin pump again. But for now, no hypes shows and we could expect that Ripple still on its place today until we ended this month.

Actually we can't say that which coin deserve or not. It is decide market demand in different times when market going down and up situation. Ethereum deserve second stage in coinmarketcap i agree with your point but Ripple is high stability from Ethereum that's why still XRP in second position.               

The deserving factor are still in the position of the value not in the position of order people don't want the currency to be in number one position but they want the investment to be more valuable this will decide the position of the currency

I can also see that it wasn't moving up for now, and I think it was just  normalising the current bearish market. The potential that this will be back to no. 2 is always there, so we need to buy more eth and add to our holding because if the market recovers back we will be selling our profit soon. That's an expectation to ponder and much better to think on good scenario rather than speculating negative thoughts. Just trust eth and hold your remaining balance while price still on the way to pumps in tje the market.

I think the update if actually done well will bring so serious opportunity to seal the number 2 mark but for now ETH price improvement is actually reluctant on its growth hope it just doesnt go too down

Update is not done yet, it's schedule in the next month, it was supposed to be January but was postponed FYI.

Ethereum should continue to accelerate its price to strengthened its grip as a second ranked cryptotocurrency because XRP is still a big threat. The postponed ethereum hardfork will proceed this month according to a report and this update may also help boost the price of the ethereum further. With another update next year, ethereum will continue to maintain its current position for many months before xrp or other altcoins overtake it again.

I was suprised that XRP was on second place. Ethereum has the most tokens and its usefulness in crypto world is proven.

It is also one of the most used currencies. On the other hand I don't know anyone who uses XRP... XRP is pure speculation without much to back it up.

Most believe that ETH is a better coin than XRP but we don't know what's the deal with outside since XRP is for big partnerships, usually banks.
It's the big players that are moving it's price and with its huge supply, I think they have taken the position to own a huge supply already.

A few days ago the price of Ethereum rose and so made it back to number 2 in Coinmarketcap. This is very good news and will have a positive impact on all Altcoin. And for now, I'm personally excited to collect more Altcoin.

it's actually not because the price goes up. we can see the price of ethereum is not too much difference. there is only a small growth in prices, but from trading volume we can see growth. keep monitoring the market to keep it ready.

Does rank make any difference in the scalability of a project? To me it doesn't matter the rank a coin is on cmc provided they're working on the project development.

It depends on point of view. Ethereum is supposed to be the second biggest altcoin, but for how long? There are many direct competitors and who knows who will be on the second place in the future  ;).

XRP and ETH aren't really competitors. Only when you look at coinmarketcap and where the total market cap of both coins is. Otherwise both coins don't really have much in common to be honest.

I don't think ethereum will be the next bitcoin because ethereum has too much supply and I see that the security level is still far behind Bitcoin and their platform is also far behind Bitcoin, bitcoin can never be replaced by any coin.
