Title: Cryptopia - BOOM another one gone - where are those decentralised exchanges
Post by: cryptohunter on January 15, 2019, 01:50:40 PM
who lost some BTC there?

Will they be back or gone for good. At least these people are known are they not?

I wonder what will be left when they re-open? if they re-open.

Time for people to wake up and realise these centralised exchanges are just sitting ducks. You never know when they will be hit next.

Time for the decentralised exchanges to take over and people start to use those.

Who here uses any of the decentralised exchanges?

I lost some, but I expected those to be lost, shitcoins that lost 95-98% from the moment I bought them.

Raised red flag in February 2018 when they hijacked thousands of $ in coins, thus hijacking the weekly compounded airdrops.

Hi there! We are big fans of decentralized exchanges! We try etherdelta, forkdelta, radar delay and of course our own. :) The future is bright for DEXs, seeing this huge hack series continuously.

What happened to cryptopia? Not working any more. Thank God I stopped trading in that exchange for a while now.

Looking for binance to launch their DEX in Feb 2019,will make the use of decentralized exchanges more.

I don't know what is up with Cryptopia and only used them a couple of times and have no coins there at all. But speaking about decentralized exchanges, I am a big fan of them and I wish they can do better but some decentralized exchanges are just bad and have a lot of problems that can lead to huge loss in money for traders there too. But there are really good decentralized exchanges that I use on a daily bases too. so ya until now there is no perfect solution for us yet.

Last year, etherdelta was "hacked" by same hackers who "hacked" now cryptopia.

what's with cryptopia I just read the news that the market was hacked, is that true?
I have a few Assets there, but maybe it's not much because the price has been destroyed. for those who have large assets there it must be very painful.

What a surprise. I guess they're gone. Perhaps in a year or two when the prices will take off they will pay off losses to ther customers based on nowadays prices. To be honest the details are so suspicious, so I think that it's a scam scheme, probably somebody from inside.

Unfortunately it is true, they were hacked and money (valuable tokens) were carted away without any troubles

It is a painful event in the Cryptocurrency word and what is the way out of this mess ?
How to prevent such hacks ?

You are asking like, how to avoid robbery? there is no way we can stop or prevent it unless everybody stops doing it. But will they stop doing it?
their logic is: it is very easy to get money by hacking other people bank account or robbing other people wallet. Why would we need to stop it, if we can get rich by doing it?

Cryptopia lost a lot in the process, and I am totally sure. It is the end for them. Speaking about a decentralized exchange, I made a few transactions on Cryptobridge. It is fun but quite laggy for me.

Who here uses any of the decentralised exchanges?
I am a decentralized exchange user. but i think decentralization exchanges might be good but that is not a long-term solution. there are many different blockchain networks nowadays so it seems difficult to implement a fully decentralized exchange. we can only hope that there will be no problem with hacking exchanges.

Crypto Pia has always been a shit exchange even in the best if times, all you need to do is to go online to see reviews of users and you wouldn't even want to register in the exchange platform.

Is this for real? and where from you got that news? Nothing has been mentioned if this hacker is the same person who has already hijacked etherdelta's DNS.
Another million dollars being stolen by hackers.
I just curious about is there a piece of news about that? Can you tell me the source?

I guess i am lucky i have never used the cryptopia exchange, and that's why i have not lost anything. But that doesn't mean the exchange i use can not be hacked.
These hackes should be solved as soon as possible. Trust is running out.

I am also looking forward for that DEX from a well known trading platform like Binance. That is more secured specially they are backed up by the said exchange so I am pretty sure that most of the exchanges will follow the footsteps of binance if this DEX becomes successful. I am only thinking that the government will be given a hard time on how they regulate such DEX if millions are using it right? I am also a big fan of DEXs because I felt safer not giving my personal information.

It is for real, check it out here https://decryptmedia.com/4495/cryptopia-hacked-etherdelta-2-5million

Quote
In fact, when examining blockchain records, it may have been the same hacker that stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of ETH back in 2017 by lifting private keys from decentralized exchange Etherdelta. Some ETH from the source of funds used for the Etherdelta attack was sent to the same address as a likely recipient of the Cryptopia hack. And it’s a rather suspicious address indeed.

On January 13, 19,390 ETH was sent from a Cryptopia exchange-owned wallet to this  (https://etherscan.io/address/0xc8b759860149542a98a3eb57c14aadf59d6d89b9)address, alongside smaller payments of 1,280, 75 and four ETH. What’s unusual about this recipient’s account is that since that payment, around 75,000 small transactions have been sent to it—all in the last 15 hours. The source of the payments come from other exchanges including Kraken, Binance and Nanopool.

However, one inbound payment caught our eye. If you click on this (http://etherscan.io/address/0x38abf2d87e9ed96131d83608740337790f1b82ec) transaction, and look to the source  (http://etherscan.io/address/0x2185e071588e11e69914ebb71a53570f7b3621fa)of its funds, you end up at this  (http://etherscan.io/address/0x563b377a956c80d77a7c613a9343699ad6123911)address. This was identified as the source of funds for the 2017 Etherdelta attack in this investigation by Hackernoon. Included in the comments on Etherscan, many have left messages asking for funds to be returned as well as one calling for a hit on the hacker. Clearly people are angry but it looks like many haven’t learned their lesson. On January 3, the crypto community were told again and again to take their coins off exchanges as part of a movement led by Tone Vays. Perhaps they were tone deaf instead.

So what actually got taken? anyone knows this yet?

I hope this is going to get made totally transparent and looked into.

I see no reason for them just to vanish and not let others with coins that were not taken withdraw.

I see some claiming this is an internal scam or exit scam.

Any evidence or just talk atm?

BOOOOM - my Skycoin is gone. I was hearing some bad words about Cryptopia for a long time, but nothing more than the usual exchange FUD and complaints by a few but vocal dissatisfied customers. I am really surprised to see that exchange fail. It seemed one of the good ones.

What happened to cryptopia? Not working any more. Thank God I stopped trading in that exchange for a while now.

Looking for binance to launch their DEX in Feb 2019,will make the use of decentralized exchanges more.

When we have decentralized exchange it will make more people to trade a lot because lot of people afraid to give their personal information to pass daily limit to the maximum level.Governments don't have any interruptions hopefully because we have already some DEXs working without any hassle.

who lost some BTC there?

Will they be back or gone for good. At least these people are known are they not?

I wonder what will be left when they re-open? if they re-open.

Time for people to wake up and realise these centralised exchanges are just sitting ducks. You never know when they will be hit next.

Time for the decentralised exchanges to take over and people start to use those.

Who here uses any of the decentralised exchanges?
I used forkdelta and this decentralized exchange is the first exchange that earn me by selling my bounty rewards. Though for now it has no good marketcap volume but at least it is a decentralized exchange and a good one. However, I am thinking that either centralized or decentralized exchange could still be hacked especially if you will store your coins in the wallet.

They'll come back, I doubt they have plans of closing, but you can bet that once they're back online they're gonna lose A LOT of clients, some people might move on to another reputable exchange since they'll be too scared to keep their coins on Cryptopia after this massive hack...

Time for the decentralised exchanges to take over and people start to use those.
News like this often encourage people to use decentralized exchanges, especially the average crypto user might feel the need to use them, though I still think the average joe prefers centralized exchanges because they think it easier to use, that's why it's gonna take a while before DEX go mainstream.

That shows that we really need to switch to DEXs as soon as possible.
This year will be the year of decentralized exchanges, soon Binance will release its own DEX and that will be the revolution in crypto.

with decentralized exchange you and only you will be responsible for loss, the chances of getting hacked get reduced drastically if you use hardware wallet.
i don't keep large amount on any exchange, ledger is where i store everything. idex is pretty decent dex, i have used couple of times.

I leave not much money on cryptopia, only about 0.01 BTC. One of the floors that I used to spend pretty much $ because of shitcoins on it. However, since its operation, it hasn't had any security problems, this is the first time I've heard about it.

I am using the decentralised exchanges, because I want to avoid such things, but it is almost impossible to use only decentralised exchanges, because there are simply not enough trading pairs. We need to wait for the wrapped BTC launch and then things will get better.

Looking for a decentralized exchange? Use etherdelta  ;D

Seriously now, I also use DEX such as DDEX. It's unfortunate that despite the many hacks that happened on CEX before, some of these existing CEX still don't improve their security.

Their official statement, quite sad they got hacked, if that is what happen. Hopefully they return, it was my favorite exchange. I was never foolish enough to leave my coins there or any exchange. Except that 100 safex I mysteriously aquired several years ago. Not enough to sell or withdraw lol. Dex is definitely the future tho

This hack is the downfall of cryptopia be, i think.
Luckily there were no coins lying there from me.
Sorry for the people who lost coins.
Really a pity that again a exchange was hacked.

On 14th of January Cryptopia suffered security breach which resulted in significant losses. When the staff identified
it they put the exchange into maintenance. ( 19391 ETH - $2.438 152 was transfered from Cryptopia to unknown wallet )
I am also waiting Binance DEX to launch.

It looks like 19391 ETH got stolen through this transaction:  https://twitter.com/whale_alert/status/1084442862970945536

This is why we should hold only funds on exchanges we are trading with.

It looks like this hacker was stoling another funds too. He has been trying to divided the amount and these amounts have disappeared. The hacker has sent it to the various exchange site. hackers has been liquidating all of ethereum in the exchange site.

Both, centralized and decentralized exchanges can be hacked. So, having your funds on decentralized exchanges are
not a guarantee for safety. Just remember when EtherDelta was hacked end of 2017.
Exchanges do not use for storing our funds.

Hacking Cryptopia is bad news for exchange, with this situation giving the holder a sense of anxiety to be more careful and focused. It's really sad. As if following in the footsteps of Etherdelta, hopefully, it will recover soon.

I'm out of cryptopia months ago I think this happened several times in the past, an exchange that cannot keep up with security and support are bound to close shop, we have so many exchanges coming in the market and security should be the main priority, they cannot make excuses anymore.

I had stopped using cryptopia sonce their last problem withdrawing. I remember it took more than 28days for me to processed my withdrawal. I thought it will run away at that time but they came back. I almost gave up the hope of getting back my money from them but suddenly I saw I got my btc in my wallet, lol.

I don't think that Cryptopia will close their business, I believe they have a lot of back-up funds. But, however I don't think they can cover all of the bitcoin that lost. I hope they can just come up with a good solution for everyone.

hacked again, a classic reason in every centralized exchanger who wants to run away :D I prefer the decentralized exchange compared to the centralized exchange, many benefits of using a decentralized exchange, one of which is :
  • quick withdrawals and deposits
  • there is no possibility to be hacked

still maintenance looks like this is the end of cryptopia exchange, but if they go back online maybe they will not refund of your tokens, still lose.

i think they will not pay back their customer ballance except they insurance all of their customer balance.like yobit did last year when hacked alot of token stolen.and they repay their customer balance.this maintenance will take long time , and it be negative news anymore for cyptocurrency while all people trying to make crypto price recovered.
