There are presently 19 people inside the global who personal an equivalent of greater than $350 million in crypto assets. well, it might mean that they buy more crypto when its price drops. it doesn't mean that they made their wealth by hodling crypto only.

We are talking here about people that we DO know. There are a lot of crypto billionaires we don't know about. And we never will. Take Satoshi as an example. He is a crypto billionaire and we will never know who he is...

I'm not sure that these are really the wealthiest people. These are only those who agrred to reveal their identity, although I'm not sure how clever that is. But I beleive there are people with more cryptocurrencies but they remain anonimous. Also, the value of their wealth changes with the value of coins, so it's not stable category.

As bitbunnny says, there might be richer people in phrases of crypto but they do not want to be known by the world. So maybe forbes should be add the word "revealed" or "known" on their article about this richest people.

That is great this is the proof that you can do bitcoin as a full time work or full time business. I think all of that people who become the wealthiest people in crypto is the most brave people or business man that rake a risk to invest even if there is a big possibilty of loss. I think this is publish here in forum because we need to encourage and motivate us to do what they done.

One who made use of the price drop as an opportunity to buy has profited good through the investment within certain time period. Apart from this the wealthiest people were the one who are the early adopters of Bitcoin. Being wealthy through cryptocurrency is possible and it require a lot of analysis and risk needs to be taken.

Let me correct you there. It is possible to earn big amounts through cryptocurrencies without any sort of risk whatsoever. Providing some examples:

I have come to the realization that panic buyers/sellers don't make good fortunes from Cryptocurrency and they that run from one HYIP coin to another may end up being disappointed. For one to really be rich in Cryptocurrency and make it big, one must practice a very important factor which is patient and eschew greediness.

You also need to know when to enter and to exit your investment. For example, if you exit in the top of 2017 bull run, you can further increase your portfolio if you buy this year bottom. That's definitely going to increase your fortune in the long run. Patiently waiting is good but if you combine with asset management, it could be better.

It is interesting to seen how the amounts are flowing in the top wallets and where its ending up and for how long.
Im sure the most individuals that are in the top100 wont let the world know they own the private key.

There are a lot of people who are concealing their selves from such list for security purposes of course. Although the coin value, do change a lot but with the volume that they have, it will still make them the wealthiest among the others.

by Broke Pierce stated on the said article on the link.  I do believe with what he said.  There are lots of people in cryptocurrency that are once in a status of poverty and now a multi-million figure.  Many enthusiast lives were elevated byt cryptocurrency.  Lucky we are still in an adoption stage so it is not too late to aspire to be one of those millionaires if not one of the weathiest people in crypto.  Just learn, learn and learn then apply what we have learned in this past decade of cryptocurrency existence.

We are aware on the millionaires last 2017 but because of the sudden price drop, i assume that their assets got down also and its just normal. If you want to be like them then why not buy more bitcoins and wait for another moon. Who knows, maybe your name will be put on that list after.

They have the means to do that, hodling and buying from the dip is only two ways to make it to the top and of course they should already rich to be able to do that, compared to us we sometimes need to sell some of our coins because of our daily needs or emergency needs.

I am sure that more people who are involved in the crypto will be the next richer person and I think Forbes needs to add them in their list. But I think the very richer person from crypto is the person who can sell the asset in 2017 including selling bitcoin in a large amount. That person will be the very richest person in the worlds because he/she can make a lot of money from crypto.
But I don't surprise if the wealthiest people in crypto come from the owner of the exchanges, founder of the project because they can easily to make money from crypto.

I've noticed that among the 19 crypto millionaires/billionaires included in the list, there is only one that I see different which is Matthew Mellon. All of them are CEOs of famous crypto in the market and founders of companies while on the other hand Matthew is just an individual investor. It is so amazing to know that someone became super rich by believing in a once called shitcoin (I'm sure everybody does especialy from its beginning days). I am amused to his courage to take the risk of losing money and going home with nothing, fortunately good things happened. He absolutely made the right decision :D.

Anyway, I guess making on the list has a disadvantage somehow. Imagine, yeah! You've got the fame but there are consequences such as being prone from robbery incidents and there are now tendecies of paying taxes, not mentioning the fact that you're privacy will never the same anymore. So if I will be a crypto millionaires, I'll just be quiet to keep the essence of anonymity.

I understand what the OP says, actually there are quite a lot of rich people in the world of cryptocurrency, including satoshi nakamoto who have never been published, but the people referred to by OP in my opinion are the richest cryptocurrency people in the world who have $ 350 million in crypto assets .

They have hodl coins or investing in companies that on AtH and on the bottom have showed to be projects with a future. There is a big difference if you invested on Eth and hodl and if you invested on a Hyip token that could eventually be worth zero.

You should only hodl if you really believe in the project and on the people that are working there.

Yes in crypto we couldn't know the real name behind every wallet so we couldn't know who are the wealthiest people in crypto.
I don't really think that the Whales would really anounce their name for publicity .
For me it is better to stay low profile rather than making some publicity because you could endanger your life and also your family members.

If among the 19 richest people is a coin owner or the founder of the crypto exchange, I think it's natural that they are in the position of the richest person. But if among the 19 people there are traders, that's just extraordinary, they have gone through a lot of conditions like the bear market but they are still consistently holding.
This is the soul that we must have, because crypto changes depend on our own awareness

It would be nice if you published a link to this article, since you are talking about it. I think that you are right about what you've found out. A couple of months ago iafe a small research of my own, taking a look at the wealthiest bitcoin wallets and their transactions. People were saying back than that whales are causing the down trend, selling off their holdings, by what I also noticed as a general trend was that the addresses with the biggest amounts of bitcoins (exchange cold wallets excluded) were showing either no recent transactions or some incoming ones (so people were buying even more). It's not the big guys ruling the market. Those people are indeed holders.

In this crypto world many scammers and manipulative people can get very rich at the expense of other people's suffering. Just see the amount of shit projects that are created every day for the sole purpose of enriching their creators

you can't technically count exchanges and big services that deal with processing transactions and are holding other people's money under the category of "wealthiest people in crypto". because they don't exactly own those coins and if people one day choose to abandon that platform they withdraw all their bitcoins and transfer them back to their own pockets in their own control.

the wealthiest people are never going to come out because of the privacy that bitcoin has offered them and since most of them are early adopters and those people knew better how to correctly use bitcoin because they educated themselves and weren't blinded by greed only wanting to become rich.

They might but I guess this are just a small portions. If most of them really were founders of any large trading or exchanges sites then buying and selling is just a part of their daily activities regardless of the price they still hold a huge amount of assets.

"these people" in this topic are mainly the big addresses that you can find on the bitcoin blockchain and since most of them aren't actually "people" or whales the answer to your question is not. services and exchanges,... that OP is counting as rich people weren't responsible for the price manipulations.

Apparently, we are only talking to the people that want to expose their wealth on cryptocurrency and not to the people that really had a good wealth on cryptocurrency, remember we are all anonymous here and no one knows who has a largest amount of crpyto and who has nothing.

I don't believe they made all their wealth just by hodling, they wealth may be as a result of so many activities in the crypto market such as buying at early stage when price is low and undertaken some crypto services such as mining and exchange as you have mentioned.

Some of the richest I know was the founder of BitmeX and Binance.

you can easily find the "source" on the internet if you search the topic with the name "Forbes". but let me tell you that you will be disappointed because there is no "names" in that list, there is only speculation and bitcoin addresses that they are evaluating the price of.

These people are probably very early adopters or they already have a lot of money to begin with. Of course if you started out hoarding bitcoins back in 2010 with it' less than a dollar value, and kept them until now, then there's a big chance you're be more than a millionnaire now. Of course that takes a lot of guts and trust in a product that you're not sure about at the time.

I have watch a movie series in Netflix called Blacklist ,
It is a series of the most wanted person but not on the watch list an unknown criminals.
And I think it could also be similar to your question or topic .
We have a list of wealthy person but I know there are something like Blacklist in crypto the wealthiest of them all but the person would remain anonymous.

Numerous whales are still in cryptomarket, public one are those that are doing businesses and need publicity to support their expertise, numerous data about unmoved supplies of BTC are still there without any movements, any certainly they are collectively owned by somebody, no signs of positivism regarding the industry for awhile and 20,000 BTC buy ordered were placed, triggering an 20% up in market cap, certainly its some insider jobs that profit using their big assets

Thats true, especially on the internet is very vulnerable to theft, known identities can be the target of hackers to steal, that's why they should hide their identities, if they have a lot of money in wallet. but we can see how many bitcoin they have in blockchain and I've seen an address that has thousands of bitcoins, he must be a millionaire..

No wonder if they are the wealthiest people in crypto because they already have so many altcoins or they are developers from one big project. But I don't see a name from ordinary people who are in the list, but I am sure that there are many of ordinary people who accidentally join in the cryptocurrency and 2017-2018, they sell all of their coins to make a lot of money, and they don't expose to the public. And they came back again in the middle of 2018 to buy so many coins including to buy bitcoin with a big amount.

This year will have more wealthiest people in crypto because we almost get into the bull market or if this year the bull market is not coming, still, in the future, there will be so many wealthiest people in crypto. Interesting reading, some very lucky people there. Of course you create your own luck & crypto was even riskier to invest in pre 2013/14. I would love to have been aware of bitcoin back then.

we must imitate those people who are able to hold their assets in the long term and are not easily affected to sell assets when the market experiences a very deep decline. and we must imitate their work system that is capable of producing very large assets. and ways of thinking in business should be emulated.

There are many more crypto rich people all around the globe, they don't want to come forward in front of the world. As governments in general all over the globe are against the crypto and some countries have totally banned it, so they may have to face harassment from Law Enforcing Agencies of those countries.

If their identities were published which mean if they bought more crypto then their crypto asset will be knowed by public and i don't really sure whether this is good for them or not because some of governments still considers crypto bad for future assets but behind of all it we as crypto users should be motivated by them how to being an rich people in the future and these tasks is not impossible to do so for everyone

Founder of the Binance is one of the richest person here at the cryptoworld because every transaction in Binance they have a little commission and they have a lot of traders so that's very big maybe he earned hundred thousands dollars daily or millions dollars monthly. They have many people who are richest because of the cryptocurrency and I hope their assets will still here at crypto and they did not sell it.

Those are the people who declared their wealth or might be known because thy are running the businesses. I think there might be some people are lurking without showing and declaring their actual wealth.

I would say the Winklevoss twins are two of the wealthiest people in crypto. 

I am sure there are a lot of them who do not share their true value in crypto. Some do it for security reasons. And some do it to stash away their wealth because crypto can somehow provide anonymity.

well i dont like the fact that there are some people that own so huge amount of cryptocurrencies. that is the bad part of this market and reason is market is so new. few people can decide and change the aim of all trends.

Btw, so far I've never make a search like that because it's certainly people who are able to hold firmly on every asset they have or they have won the lottery like that in the article. I just don't want to know about them, imagine when you know they holding a lot of crypto, then at least that will make us more worried at a big dump if they sell all their assets.

Some of them are wealthy already before they enter the crypto world. The more you have money the more you will easily go to the top but it's somehow unfair to the poorest person. But they should consider knowing where and what these people did before they get to the top.

I don't believe the wealthiest will reveal their identity and their assets to the public, that will endanger if not their lives their assets as well. Shallow waters are the noisy waters so I believe these so called self proclaimed wealthy people from cryptocurrency just want popularity. They want to be talked about and be famous. Some wealthy people are talking about how wealthy they are because they are promoting their businesses and they want to convince people by their financial statuses in life.

Cryptocurrency is decentralized and unlike other sectors it would not be easy for Forbes to accurately get all the cryptocurrency holders in the world.

It's funny that right now forbes are making articles about bitcoin more often. By the years they are not patronizing bitcoin, they are making articles such as "the end of the bubble" I forgot the names of each articles but they are making them. But at least, right now I think they are more of a believer in bitcoin.

I also not believe that the richest person will make him feel threatened criminals by spreading his name who has become the richest person, it makes no sense and I'm sure you arw right someone who wants to do popularity to the public is the possibility of fake news. for the OP HODL article its not something that is sure to become rich without continuing to adopt

There are some people out there who maybe more richer than those posted on Forbes. Its just that they don't want to reveal their true identity for safety purposes only. Put Satoshi in the list because the creator is rich right now because of the Bitcoin he/she is holding.

People who are rich in crypto who are open to public are those who also have business that needs public support.
Like having their own exchange or business that is related to crypto, but I believe there is a big number of rich people in crypto that are still anonymous now. You can always count the inventor for that, until now he is still anonymous.

It depends on them if they wanted just to invest in cryptocurrency or to open a business that is crypto related. There are some crypto enthusiast that have business in cryptocurrency and they also invested and has a great net worth. Look at Chris Larsen the founder of Ripple, he has a net worth of 8 billion dollars. 

People getting to be under the wealthiest list through cryptocurrency is really a big thing. Earlier people found it easier to get termed as wealthiest. Most of the people who are wealthiest through crypto are early investors who just invested without thinking of any return from it. Now the competence level is big, upon which getting to be the wealthiest needs good learning and should have the mind to take big risks.

We really aren't sure if these people are the results are really the wealthiest people in cryptocurrency. They likely not to reveal their identity which is what crypto wants, an anonymous life.

I agree, it is very unlikely for these people to reveal themselves so that they can live freely without worries. Even in the real life, we really aren't sure if the people they posted the richest are really the richest because they obviously hide their wealth.

I am not sure about the accuracy of the Forbes data. Given the anonymity of Bitcoin, there may be large holders unknown to Forbes who stay out of public limelight. And given the recent string of violent attacks and robberies against people who hold crypto-coins, I don't think that a lot of people will be comfortable in revealing their crypto-assets to public.

That is really good to know that there are some people that their life depends on what market movement is. There are still many billionaires out there that hold crypto and we don't really know them yet because they are still in silence. I hope they will reveal themselves to educate people that don't know cryptocurrency.

Outside crypto, does the ranking of richest people shows the real riches people? I think not. It is likely for them to hide themselves because it will make them to avoid a lot of trouble. I thought you have the list of those 19 people you have stated but as I read further on the context there was none. Anyway, the richest man in crypto was obviously the founder ans its staff running the platform. They are the first to get system when its market price is cheap therefore getting enough bitcoin for them to hold is not difficult. And they had seen this already knowing that bitcoin will be an asset or a currency with great value.

Privacy is one of the many big features of cryptocurrency that's why we should not expect these wealthy people to be sharing who are they are...though transaction trails are always viewable in the blockchain. Now, if one of these people, I don't have any obligation to the public though if I am selling my coins I would not have any choice but to declare it to the governmental tax agency and must pay the tax required.

its not the privacy or the anonimity of cryptos that limits thier ability to expose them selves in the public but its their security  . they are afraid that their life might get threatened by criminals , hackers and scammers if they will publicitize thier total income that came from cryptos  .

  even me myself , i will prefer to be anonymous even if im not earning huge profits here on cryptos  . we arent also obligated to pay tax because we are only using a crypto  . tax only applicables to fiat and other centralized payment methods  .

Of course wealthy people should not make a public post on their crypto assets for the sake of security.As long as you are thinking rightly,you will surely avoid posting publicly that will give some hints to the hidden scammers.I think the wealthiest people for now are those considered the early adopters of crypto.

I am beginning to imagine where Forbes would have gotten their data to rate this individuals because going by the concept of blockchain decentralization, the assets are kept anonymously and made known at the descretion of owners.

Most of the people that I heard became rich in the cryptocurrency are the people who trusted that bitcoin is going to blow up in the next few years or so. And there are people who are very unlucky in a way that their hard drive got broken.

Thats too bad if you lost your bitcoin accidentally but those cases are mainly old enough because people on the past dont really knew that bitcoin could fly this high  . they didnt treat thier bitcoin as a precious gem and as a result they didnt make any back ups  .


Buying is useless without holding  . they cannot earn big and become a millionaire/billionaire if they didnt know how to hold long term  .  and you think hodling is easy ? Well think again   .  only few were succesful to hold until now

You have to also admit that a lot of it is due to luck and good timing,,, anyone who got into Bitcoin at the time it first started did not actually have much option other than Bitcoin. So BTC did well and they all got lucky, but timing was the most important.

Anyone who got into Bitcoin end of 2017 is a victim of bad timing. But they just need to wait, and they will probably get lucky!

I think there are many more people who have a lot of cryptocurrencies that are worth more, but they don't tell other people about that. If I am the wealthiest person in the crypto, I will not says other people too because that will too risky for me. Besides that, I can be the new target for people who want to steal my money, and I will prevent that thing to be happening to me or my family. It is better to stay under the radar and not telling other people what we have.

Exactly that is the reason why I think that people who are really wealthy in Bitcoin are anonimous. Who smart enough would reveal identity and become a target? Those who only show of are not the biggest Bitcoin owners, that is my opinion. Security is very important.

I think that the wealthiest people usually hide their personality. Bitcoin gives them privacy so i don't think that we will hear their names.

Naturally, most of them will stay incognito. Most of the heads on the leading projects like Ethereum, NEO, Binance are among the richest people that have cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, the crypto market has such people as Tim Draper. He started thinking about cryptocurrencies fifteen years ago when he met a guy in South Korea who bought a virtual sword for his son for cash. Draper bought BTC for the sum of $ 250,000 while the price was at $ 6. Now he has about $ 500 million.

I am not even sure that the main people that have money in cryptocurrency is even known because just recently, I saw some threads on how someone moved about 1 billion dollars within the market and that would surely be a transaction that belongs to one person, or it could be group of person anyway, but people really have money in cryptocurrency and they are extremely rich people which you would not even know.

I would not also be surprised if we have some government money in the bitcoin market also because we would have some that would believe in it but will have to carry out the transaction is covert way where it would not be much known to people. I hope that one day, I can also join the group of richest people in cryptocurrency.

We don't even know the wealthiest people in crypto because they do not associate their Bitcoin with who they are. many Bitcoin millionaires have their private keys on paper wallets and we will never find out who they are, as they will sell their Bitcoins for cash. or they will transfer their Bitcoins into an anonymous altcoin so that they cannot be traced.

I have to agree on that if you are a big holders of Bitcoin and other top coins in the market, and you are living in a third world country or country that has a restriction on Cryptocurrency, you don't want your name added to that list or to any list of Crypto whales, whatever coins or tokens that maybe, you have to protect yourself and your coins as well.

actually many of those wallets with over a billion dollars are owned by exchanges. These large transactions are made by The exchange to move funds from one wallet to another for their operational purposes.

As for the government, well yes the FBI is already involved with cryptocurrency and has been for almost ever since it was created. They have been investigating the Silk road and their legal activities involved with Bitcoin.

That would be the smart thing to do.

Some people don't realize the dangers of having this information in the public eye, and this is something many can understand even though we do not wield the wealth of these crypto millionaires.
To be honest, forbes releasing this sort of article only serves to endanger those listed, in reality, no one really cares about who they are and this is an act of flaunting wealth to gain relevance.

Do you really believe that they dont have access on it? I dont think so. Imagine on how big is the amount that they are holding if ever they do had the access.
We can see list of those richest bitcoin wallets and yes most of them belonged into exchanger and even you can see dormant addresses which we dont even know
if these are lost one or havent been accessed again by its owners but pretty sure that there are lots of rich people on this crypto space.

For sure! However, it seems to me that single persons, people, who managed to make billions on Bitcoin are more interesting to us. For instance, for me, it was a surprise to learn that Ashton Kutcher (famous American actor) was one of the founders of the A-Grade Investments fund, and then financed one of the largest Bitcoin payment operators BitPay. Given such rapid growth in BitPay, one can only guess how much this investment brought to Ashton Kutcher, but the amount there is very impressive.

It is all the adoption of understanding the strategies and implementing the right decision at the right time as a Big boss when dealing with huge investments and it is not such easy to handle those huge amount until we are not experienced to deal well with small investments.

maybe to get rich with bitcoin is certainly not as easy as we see and we imagine for sure if we want to be rich with bitcoin investments we must have a lot of capital to invest with bitcoin and also to buy bitcoin at a price down and resale at the highest price possible if you have a lot of capital you can do like that to become a rich person in bitcoin.

I think that those who are really wealthy in Bitcoin will never reveal their true identity and that is wise thing to do.
Also, every bitcoiner needs to know that getting rich with Bitcoin isn't easy thing to do and that there are only few people who really made to do that. But that shouldn't be the main goal because Bitcoin isn't the tool to get rich over night.

Nothing is impossible with hard work, I'm sure the name wealthiest people in crypto called forbes does not get its wealth easily. Should
there is a long process to get it, if anyone thinks crypto can make rich instantly and fast. The person who said that was making a liar.

Ofcourse, Whether in crypto or not, dedication and perseverance is the key to attaining success, to achieve success one must be willing to put some hardwork and time, sometimes, people just want to attain that success without putting in any work, even in crypto, we need hardwork, persistent and patient to achieve a better result,  not everyone gets lucky enough to make millions out of crypto but if you're patient enough it will happen,

The forbes listing was amazing somehow it really inspires me to become one of them but I guess that is just my dream.  One of the famous bitcoin billionaires that I followed were the Winklevoss brothers and as I checked they are number 4 on the forbes list. Winklevoss brothers were not just famous because of being bitcoin billionaires but also because of Winklevoss ETF proposal that they submitted to the US and Securities and Exchange Commission but sadly it was rejected. I know I cannot be one of them and so my  dream is just to be a bitcoin millionaire in the future and it will depend on the bullish bitcoin trend reaching the 100k$ value.

They were the lucky early miners, early adopters, millionaire investors who invested and made multiple millions and some lucky Kids who bought a coin really early and sold at the top, at the right time. They were there in the right place at the right time and their stars were aligned. Kudos to them is all I may add to that and to be honest, what is there left to say? We know that in any emerging market, there will always be those lucky FEW who make it to the top of the pile. I wish them long life and success, but I hope we also have some success also.

It will be very difficult to compile such a list, because unlike the case with bank accounts and equities, a Bitcoin wallet can't be linked to a particular individual. An user may be the only one having the private keys to access a particular wallet, but the relation between him and the wallet is much weaker than... say a bank account and its holder.

A perfect example is that of Satoshi Nakamoto's coins. We can say that he is one of the top cryptocurrency holders and he holds a total of BTC980,000 in his wallets. What we don't know is whether he has the private keys to access these coins or not. In case he doesn't have them, then how can we say that these are his coins?

Well.. let me take a simple example. I got $3,000 as my salary today. I withdrew my cash from ATM and then someone stole that cash from me. Can I say that I still own $3,000? The banknotes are still there, but they are in someone else's pocket.

These are only the one who are famous and we know, obviously there are some people who are miles and miles richer than some of the people mentioned in the list. There are just some people who don't want to be famous because being famous sometimes or most of the time can also give them problems. I mean if I have that much money, I wouldn't want also to be that famous, just live on a normal yet luxurious life.

I think the one who declares their riches are the one wanting the reputation or it is their way of gaining the trust of people that they can use for their future projects.

This top 19 comprise at most the top 30 billion worth of bitcoin and other crypto. At prices in 2018. If they kept their net worth in crypto, then today in 2019 they'd have lost half in fiat value what they had.

There is still around another 200 billion unaccounted for, who are those others we will never really know unless they go about posting for the world to see. They won't do that as that would expose them to danger and risk of getting their coins stolen, or they might be threatened.

In fact, in that Forbes article, they estimate Buterin to only have $500 million? Anyone else who invested 1k BTC in the ETH ICO would have 20k ETH, worth a lot more than $500 million. Altho, the figure may be accurate if he had cashed out some earlier and not really caring about anything above $50 million, as most people who don't care about money once their basic needs are met.

I Think there are people who holds more bitcoin than the twins, but they keep silent because it might put their family lives in danger, and its better if they keep quite because im sure if they were to be name 2 groups will hunt them, government and the underground for sure

I agree, there could much richer that' not been listed and they want be be anonymous for their security and this people really take advantage the market and maybe bought a lot of token/coins and sold it before thr fall lat 2017.

True sir, some holders remains to be low key and anonymous. It will endangers their life if exposed that they have a lot of money or its crypto equivalent.For  Buterin in list is given because he is founder of Ethereum,but for others who are known  only for their wallet address in blockchain richlist ranking,its hard to know them.
