Title: Who will win the smart contracts competition?
Post by: thecodebear on April 07, 2019, 11:09:58 PM
Ethereum was obviously the leader and the only main smart contract platform of 2017 and 2018. But now I see that EOS is doing roughly double the activity as Ethereum and even Tron is doing around as much if not more activity as Ethereum.

Do you think EOS will be the big smart contract platform of the next crypto boom (and possibly further in to the future)? Or will Ethereum manage to hold its lead with its future tech upgrade scaling solutions?

Or is there another platform you think will challenge them?

Right now I'm thinking EOS could very well challenge Ethereum for smart contract dominance during the next crypto boom.

I've seen a lot of projects that has been drifting away from Ethereum-meta due to the network congestion though Ethereum blockchain is still one of the easy to use and understand platform for newbies in crypto industry so I think Ethereum will stay on top for a longer time.

EOS is good and has the potential to destroy ethereum dominance as a platform and smart contract, but even so I don't think that ethereum will lose easily because ethereum also seeks to improve the quality and number of users, one of which is to make hardfork and that will make people returned to see ethereum again after they tried to turn away

Where can I find the data of which of them are having the largest number of smart contracts made and number of execution?
All I encounter everywhere are just ethereum smart contracts. It's something like 99 for ethereum and 1 for the rest of all.

I don't think that EOS will be an Ethereum competitor on the scale of smart contract development, if compared to other smart paltforn contracts Ethereum remains superior and is a freindly user.

Too bad that Ethereum 1.0 cannot function properly. ETH camp desperately needs Ethereum 2.0 with much faster performance if they want to challenge EOS (and TRON). Just look at https://dappradar.com/ to see who is the real winner.

I think ethereum will still be the best smart contract, ethereum has the advantage that it is difficult to exceed other coins, but we will see it in the future, will ethereum remain the best contract or will it be shifted by other coins

About the dispute who will be the first EOS or Ethereum will show time. Everything develops. I think that then there will be more specialized areas in the platforms. No one in the investment market can predict for sure. Choose what is convenient at this time.

Ethereum used to be the king of smart contracting on blockchain and now that the CEO himself hands down for tron does makes me feel that tron is better and in short time will beat ethereum and others like EOS and neo

ethereum has a lot of problems and it has already lost the "competition" a long time ago. we didn't notice this because of ICO scams that have been occurring. an ICO scam focuses on easiness of creating their scam while wanting the most amount of hype. during 2017 although Ethereum's issues were clear but the hype was huge so they all stuck to it. but now that ICOs are dying we are seeing how everyone has already migrated to other platforms with less issues and better security, some of which are even decentralized unlike the centralized ethereum.

Title: Re: Who will win the smart contracts competition?
Post by: Herbert2020 on April 08, 2019, 07:11:39 AM
ethereum is only being used more because it is staying on top thanks to its manipulated market cap and when it is used more it translates into existence of lots of code that people can copy easier. and that is what the ICO scammers always wanted. they will never choose another platform where they can't find that many easy code to copy from.

but as others grow and the ICO scammers see the ease of use of those platforms they will dump ethereum just as fast and move to those platforms pumping them instead.

it's true that EOS is increasing in its smart contracts, but I still strongly believe that ethereum will continue to be the leader of the altcoin and as a big smart contract.

I think ETH has a big advantage of being the first one and having bigger community when we compare to other coins. On the other hand hard working will pay. As we know some of the projects are working harder then ETH team to get more share on competition.

Ethereum is the creator of smartcontract and other platforms only plagiarized the smartcontract that created by ethereum. EOS is a crap platform consider when dan larimer was seeing an opportunity to get a lot of money when he was moving to the EOS and leave steemit that this time it has no future.

I may sound a bit biased but honestly im a long time eth supporter and i do not see any massive reason why eth will loose this game as they are already coming up with advanced solutions to the issues they have faced in the past and this year is full of aggressive developments for eth network so i think eth will strengthen its rank and dominance im expecting massive 2020 for eth.

For ethereum, in my opinion, it will still master the smart contract for the future because they will certainly develop it for the better, for EOS, the potential to be seen is booming because their development is quite good, but still the main program of EOS is I rarely see tokens / coins from EOS can be traded on the major exchange while ethereum is often and even easy to list on the major exchange

First I want to say that their competition is really cool.
Thus projects will be able to move to new levels of technology.
My opinion is that ETH was a leader, and it will remain, it has a very large user base and conceptual developments.

At present EOS still does not have enough strength to challenge ethereum. if you look at the advantages of eos it might be better. but if seen from the support of the ethereum community it is still far ahead of eos.

I think ethereum still can't be beaten even for the next few years, even though eth still has the same problem now. but that won't make eth left behind

I don't there is a "winner" in this "competition" because this is not a competition, they all grow together and they all improve together.

If you want to look for a winner in the smart contract world than look at the mirror because you me and all others won thanks to this smart contract works. Ethereum will still exist and be amazing, eos will be too, and all others like that will be amazing too.

There is no stopping any of these. Think of the crypto currency world, bitcoin is huge but there are other amazing great coins too so that means bitcoin didn't "won" anything special, it just grew bigger thanks to other coins as well so everyone won, same applies here as well and we all will win thanks to the increasing rivalry between these coins in smart contract world.

On the basis of the EOS, game projects and projects for betting on various sports are created.
Etherium remains the platform for all other projects. I am sure that Ethereum will remain the best platform for creating new projects in the next few years. The network has seriously dropped the cost of transactions and this is a great opportunity for those who often make payments.

We can say that behind most of the successful projects are eth. But I do not really know how it will continue. Because, the falls in eth's price made the devs feel a little more thinking. Perhaps this will lead to changes in future decisions.

EOS and TRON are competing nicely with Ethereum. This is a good sign that the cryptocurrency industry is a healthy one. The presence of great competition in the market will surely lead to a more improved platforms. Thinking that Ethereum has lined up its upgrades already few months ago that will last until next year. Now, as EOS and Tron are growing in terms of clients, for sure upgrades will be needed in the future. This is a healthy competition.

EOS have a lot of chance on that, but, i'm sure, ethereum still better than eos  ;)

there are a lot of smart contract platforms, which are more faster and better, it's hard to draw any conclusions. ethereum has large consumers and developers, with tons of improvements to eth network they most likely will be at top of the competition for some time, but sooner or later they will be replaced with something much better.

I am sure that Ethereum will continue to maintain its lead, if you compare their community base, you will understand that Ethereum community are much more quite stronger than any other existing or upcoming smart contract.

The challenge while other ones may also not be able to keep up is that of competitors and too many options that will come in at the same time not giving EOS room to be the only competitor, if EOS were to be the only Ethereum smart contract competitor, I will believe that it can get so close but, other ones will come into and there will be too many of them splitting same user, So this will also contribute to why Ethereum smart contract will always be recognized most.

Despite their slow performance and 1.0 version, they have never disappointed any of their users, if they have not disappointed me in anyway; I see no reason why I should migrate to any other smart contract. Overtime we will see,an action speaks louder than words. These other guys are still learning from where Ethereum is, ethereum is their trainer, opened their eyes to smart contract after BTC, ever since ethereum was created to compete with Bitcoin, are they still mate when it comes to usage and adoption? Same way ethereum will gap these ones in functions, adoptions and price value.

It’ll be hard to catch up, though. Ethereum has thousands of developer courses, tutorials, articles, and Stack Overflow answers, and that’s quite a head start. They also have the largest, most active community working on improvement proposals and core protocol development.

Developers may be frustrated with slow transactions and terrible user interfaces, but Ethereum still owns the developer mindshare by a wide margin. Over 3,000 ICOs have launched on Ethereum, and its closest competitors are still in the low hundreds. Ethereum has suffered some major blows in 2018, but a big rally this week serves as an answer to challengers: Don’t count Ethereum out just yet.

Or maybe another altcoin that is not in the list? Even EOS that process around 900 TPS is not the best solution for DApps and smart-contracts because it is still too slow. For example Ziliqa or QuarkChain could be the real competitors due to their high TPS rate.

You think correctly. Ethereum has the infrastructure. In addition, ether is the first of its kind, as BTC in its own way. This is much more important than technical parameters that can be improved over time.

New coins similar to Ethereum keep appearing and seems like they are taking the lead right now. That's probably because a new coin comes with better features and updates then the old ones and people always prefer the coins that have faster transactions and cheaper fees. It's hard to say who is going to win this competition since each of them had their own advantage. I think they are going to stay equal for a while and one of them is going to announce something that will boost them in the top

The fact that EOS or Tron are doing things well does not mean that they will necessarily displace Ethereum from its leadership in the area of smart contracts, as it is well known that in this market not only the technological development of a cryptocurrency matters, but also it seems that investors seem to be more interested in the prestige, recognition and support behind a crypto, and in this case ethereum is far above the others, almost on a par with bitcoin.

If the question of the cryptos was based exclusively on the technological development of a coin, maybe bitcoin would hardly be in the top-50, and that is not the case.

It will really be a strong contest between EOS and ETH as both of them have very sound development team and with the way EOS is gradually gaining more popularity overtime with more advance technology they are beginning to introduce too, it might be another coin with a very promising future.

When it comes to smart contract performance, they might get so close to Ethereum and one thing I am certainly sure of is that Ethereum will not give them chance too because whatever it is that EOS has added to itself to make it a better choice, Eth will also add it too, so there is no loop hole.

if asked to choose and compare smart contract who is the best between ETH, EOS, and TRON then I will speak based on my experience.

I have used several transactions with EOS and Tron, but I still prefer Ethereum... I'm more comfortable with Ethereum, Ethereum is more user-friendly than the others.

so even though new coins keep appearing and claiming their smart contract is the best, I will still choose Ethereum is the best.

Ethereum is the first altcoin to provide a smart contract system. After success with several projects, a smart contract system emerged from EOS and Tron. However, the two altcoins still cannot afford to approach Ethereum as a leader in smart contracts. The ethereum developers will not remain silent to continue developing the technology so that they still get the trust of their users.

When it comes down to something like this, so many people like to compare tech specs and data side by side.

The amount of activity on these newer platforms would look like a sign that they can compete with ethereum.

The fact of the matter is, none of these companies stand even a slim chance against ethereum.
I'm not just speculating here.

Take iphones vs. android for example.
iphones are always behind androids in terms of tech and features.
But iphones still dominate the market by a LARGE margin.
So much that every other cell phone company is put in the android category.

Not only this, but there is so much evidence in other products and markets that tech doesn't determine the market leader.

There is two things that ethereum has that these other smart contracts aren't even close to getting:
Name brand recognition and Market penetration

It is true that for now EOS looks very challenging ethereum to compete smart contracts, but EOS is far from effective, because to make EOS wallets requires a fee and this makes superior ethereum on the UX side.

Eos looks way too overhyped just like Ethereum was in 2017.

What many of you are forgetting are possible smart contracts for Bitcoin. If this gets done people will forget about altcoins and go with bitcoin. It will take time but it will happen and eventually bitcoin will get the best upgrades from other altcoins added as second and third layer solutions.

Or maybe another altcoin that is not in the list? Even EOS that process around 900 TPS is not the best solution for DApps and smart-contracts because it is still too slow. For example Ziliqa or QuarkChain could be the real competitors due to their high TPS rate.

Of course any blockchain that has high transactions on-chain does so by sacrificing decentralization and therefore security. I guess the question ultimately is will users care if something is highly decentralized like Ethereum or far less decentralized like EOS and others. With something like bitcoin (people's money and savings) security and high decentralization is the most important thing, with an application network though I feel like maybe people would accept the trade-off of less decentralization a more friendly experience. Then again as you say even something like 900 tps is nothing if we're talking about a global network so on-chain will always end of just being a settlement layer for any global blockchain network, the mass of the transactions will always have to take place on a second layer anyway if the network is to be secure and decentralized enough to even be able to say it is at all secured by decentralization.

If Ethereum's second layer tech operates well I could see it taking back (or keeping) the lead for dapp networks. But of course any other network can also add second layer tech, I think the next few years of adoption and recognition will be crucial because whoever has the lead and has the most developer mindshare in the next few years will have a huge lead going into an age when second layers will likely be common and every serious blockchain network will be able to claim many thousands or millions of tps on second layer. Ethereum's got the lead in some ways but EOS has recently far surpassed it in actual usage recently, there could be other contenders in the next few years, but I think the lines will be drawn in the near future as to who has the best chance to become mainstream.

in my opinion, maybe a huge project with smart contracts and bring a lot of great features inside will born to beat all crypto with smart constracts
but for bitcoin i don't think so, because bitcoin is pure cryptocurrency  ;)

Do you think, investment division and having a small market price on the market by the best cryptos are the achievements of a smart contract? I don't think so. ETH and EOS opens allot of opportunities for projects to prosper but in a sense that, they are abused by some, there is no need I guess to implement a competition. We need to limit market cryptos for the best market value of the already existing ones. That would be a better idea I suppose?

for me nothing can beat Ethereum in the matter of smart contracts and EOS is still too difficult to use for a beginner.

For me, i think Ethereum will still be the boss. Though, EOS, NEO etc are doing good job too. But i like the competition going on. It is bringing the best out of them.

EOS will never compare to ETH in terms of smart contracts.
ETH is always trying to improve its platform and gain the confidence of new users every day. Probably in the future there will be a currency that will be better for smart contracts than ETH, but it will not happen too soon.

Is there a need for this competition? Smart contracts is nothing new in crypto space anymore and the king of smart contract is Ethereum as we all know it but few competitors have arise to tackle the king but I haven't seen any better

From my point of view, the ETH project has been working with smart contracts for a long time, so for some reason I have no doubt that ETH will be a leader in this industry. Therefore, we have to wait a bit.

The crypto market is very competitive and we haven't seen the end of it yet because we might even see more project that has a better smart contract than the one that is available currently, this is why we should not be comparing projects in this space but rather trying to bring out the best.

When I say the best, I am trying to talk about a platform not just where one can deploy smart contract to the blockchain but can create a user friendly platform that would be easy to use by even a newbie in the space. We have a lot to see in this platform and I believe we are getting there soon.

You can’t say nothing will beat them, the only company I have seen that nobody has been successfully able to duplicate and beat is Cocacola, but I don’t think there is any system ethereum is using that is not opened to so many other competitors out there who can do better if they wish to do so, it all depends on marketing strategy, the force of awareness and other additional benefits that is not found in ethereum.

In the long run, EOS might do better than Ethereum if people’s testimonies works in favor of them, as time goes on, and users makes use of the system, they will testify if they can indeed beat Ethereum or not.

i can not imagine that eos will one day replace ethereum. also, i find it very quiet about eos and see no reason for me to use eos. if eos really wants to oust ethereum, eos really has a lot to do and bring out neat things. as long as that does not happen, i will stay with ethereum and keep using it.

EOS is a big contender they are constantly developing their platform and very soon if care its not taken they might soon overtake etherum.  But for now Etherum os leading in smart contract
