Now it is really dangerous to work with mobile wallets. You have to keep yourself safe. This will be decided in the future. When no one will use it, and most of them. We must wait. We are at the very beginning of new technologies.

OK I think I get where you are coming from. But for the people who can't afford trezzor or ledger wallets, mobile wallet can still work for them if the Mobile wallet uses private key. It's advisable you use a wallet that you can control your private key. And make sure you write your private key down with pen and paper to be safe.

I used mobile wallets. And I dont agree with you. I think Its more dangerous on pc compared to phone. Since pc are most prone to viruses compared to phones. And theres this 2fa verication already by google on your phone which is so hard to hacked by hackers so better activate it.

I mostly use mobile wallets and as far as I know, it's safe. Depending on how safe you you play along, will determine your safety. Every wallet can be at risk if the owner places it on a risk

Actually one of my first crypto wallets was a mobile one, because I didn't know how to use a proper wallet that was a light client (SPV). I started out using stupid web wallets, then when I learnt I needed my own wallet, I tried mobile. But you're right, I believe it's not as secure, mainly because I don't trust my phone apps, is one thing, but also I'm just always afraid to lose my phone.

So now I stick to desktop SPV clients.

I don't think that mobile wallets are not safe it totally depends on your phone security if your smartphone is safe then your wallet is also safe. viruses more attack on pc than smartphone, I disagree with your arguments.

I have never used mobile wallets till the moment when MEW team have released their mobile app. It is very user friendly and is almost identical to the browser wallet. So, you can make your transactions from everywhere and this is a great point. But I have no idea how secured this solution is.

I had been using mobile wallet since last year. Still couldn't transfer to ledger wallet and trezzor wallet. Hardware wallet is the best to secure your favorite coin, all can't afford this value. If your private key is in secure place, I don't believe that mobile wallet is very dangerous.

I'm still using mobile wallets but with not so high amounts. I have altcoins on held with my mobile wallet and didn't even used it for awhile but I have no problem with it. The case on mobile wallets is choose the most reputable and store only coins there that you afford to lose. It's best for everyone to have his/her hardware wallet which has a better security than mobile wallets.

You should start saving and avail nano s or trezor for your own safety.

For now, it is. The risk is high since we're at the early stage of this technology. Anything can happen not just the mobile wallet, but as well as other things (even your cold wallet in the safest bank you know). Luckily, people are constantly looking for ways on how to improve things. Like other users commented above -- just wait for it.  ;)

In the same way you store private keys or mnemonic words for computer wallets, you can also store the private key of mobile wallets. There's no much risk other than being attacked by a hacker.

I use mobile wallets for daily trade, if you can make sure your phone is not compromised, then why not use it?
If you think again, everything is dangerous because most of device that you use for wallet can get infected by malware. Just make sure you can take care your device and don't download/install any suspicious program.

Coinbase offers a good multi web wallet while coinomi is the wallet of choice if you want the private keys in your hands.

No fucking way. Until I need cryptocurrencies to use for buying stuff in the mall and such, I would stay away from mobile wallets. It's like keeping your fortune in your pocket. You can lose your phone or get robbed at knifepoint, etc. What's more Android or iOS through their apps seems easy to hack compared to a clean Linux desktop OS.

Same with me, as long we keep our seed safe, i think its safe. Any wallet can be dangerous if we share our private key or our seed, but if we keep it safe, its more easier for us to access our coin or token using mobile wallet.

It depends on what wallet you are using because I think not all cellphone wallets are dangerous for everyone and return to the way they secure them from all kinds of risks like hackers, indeed all have a very high risk there are some wallets that I think are very safe to use, it's good to use a hardware wallet because I think it's very safe from others by the way we look after it.

I've been using mobile wallets and to be honest I never have encountered serious issues like being compromised. The only issueI experienced is the delay in transferring funds from one app to another which is not really a big deal to me as long as all those transactions are safe. I prefer to get rid of exchanges rather than mobile wallets because majority of complaints come from exchnages not mobile wallets.

First of all. Your phone is protected. And if fraudsters bypass the protection, not the fact that something will remain on the phone. Secondly, there is also protection on the wallet. People have long been trading in coins from mobile phones and tablets. Because it does not always have access to a computer. Soon the cryptocurrency will be in all phones do not worry.

The smart phone as a hardware has been proven to have some vulnerabilities and to have been repeatedly exploited by government agencies

to spy on people; so conducting crypto transactions via phone you should factor in that your anonymity can be compromised at the least...

The use of mobile wallets is indeed quite unsafe, but I advise you to keep only a small amount on mobile wallets. Most of your savings should be stored on a hardware wallet or on a computer with stored private keys in a safe place. Do not forget to use antivirus programs, preferably several at the same time.

Any wallet will be in danger if you yourself do not take care of his safety! The structure of the system for mobile clients is simplified, therefore, the security is lower. It is advisable to keep only the amount you need at that time on such wallets, and to keep fixed assets offline.

Can you describe dangerous ?

I have been using mobile wallets for more than 2 years and never have I ever faced any trouble using them. According to me a wallet on a PC is more prone to malware as compared to a smartphone.
Besides that, mobile wallets enables us to use multi-layer 2FA which increases the overall security of the wallet. Also, the key point here is that never store the private keys on your smartphone without any encryption/security. If a phone is lost then the person can easily get the private keys stored on your smartphone.

ICONOMI is an asset management platform, its not a wallet AFAIK. IT does have a BTC wallet and so are the rest of the tokens they added on their platform. Wallets they might mean are those like electrum in mobile phones, I'm not relaly sure if they are safe but if you have the private keys I think its safe. There are wallets like EIDOO which is a hybrid wallet with an exchange with it too, you do have the private keys too.

What's the difference between desktop wallets and mobile wallets? The real difference come when we talk about the type of wallets. Just similar to Desktop wallets, all type of wallets are present for mobile too.
If you want to use web wallets on mobile: FreeWallet and Coinbase App are best.
If you want to import private key or use vanity address: Electrum mobile app is best.
If you want to create new seed and run HD wallet: Mycelium comes handy.

I don't think platform matters, type of wallet is more important while judging the risk factor.

It's never safe to use these wallets. Even if you want to use this wallet, don't be storing huge amount of coins in those wallets. There are high risks of losing your wallet and all your coins. As far as I know, most wallets are made by third party company. Such wallets are always vulnerable. Just use the wallets made by the developers for that specific coin.
So far I haven't used any kind of mobile wallets and I don't even plan to.

The only reason i use mobile wallets is it is much easier to set up and use quickly, unlike hardware wallets which require a lot of work, for someone who has a small amount of crypto, like less than 10k i really don't see a reason to not use them, but if you have more than you should defiantly invest in a hardware offline wallet in order to keep your funds safe, and to be honest i didn't hear or have had any issue with mobile wallets  like getting hacked or funds stolen,e and to the people who had probably it was their fault for like clicking a phishing link or having longing virus on it.

Therefore, you should confirm the authenticity of it first if you cannot afford to buy a hardware wallet, because of it's cost.

There should be no doubt about the security of mobile wallets because the wallet is super protected as well as if your smart is also protected and pass coded then there is no need to worry about. You are super protected from harmful threats as long as you are using it for a specific purpose only. Mobile wallets use encrypted payment codes and not your actual account number when you are making payments.

Well, that's what you think. I have used a lot of mobile wallets, tested them and I still make use of mobile wallets till today (mind you, I also have other wallets like Trezor and a desktop wallet, so don't think I'm only making use of mobile wallets. I have used a lot of mobile wallets and that includes Bitcoin.com wallet, Xapo wallet, Coinbase wallet, Coinomi wallet, Block chain wallet, Jaxx Liberty wallet and the list goes on.

When I started making use of bitcoin for the first time I started with a mobile wallet and that Coinbase and Bitcoin.com wallet, the both of them. As of recent I have been using Luno Wallet, it is popular in my area… I Use it alongside Block chain wallet and Coinbase. There are some mobile wallets that are safe, and these three I'm using now are safe and they have two factor authentication. Coinbase seems a lot more secured from what I have seen.

If you are using it as a cold storage then there wont be a problem.

Androids are not prone to viruses. It is your memory card that is getting all those viruses from different download sites. If you can prevent that then you wont have any problem.
Besides, you could just uninstall the application if you already have the seed, private key and your wallet address. That is all you need.

I don't use mobile crypto wallet because as you say, it's very dangerous. Mobile phone is less secure than PC or laptop, many fishing apps on mobile can fake a screen of crypto wallet on mobile to steal your wallet information when you type in. Also, mobile apps require too much rights of our phone, why a game or something else need right to access message, phone list, etc.

Yes, don't store large amount of crypto assets on mobile wallets, it's really not safe at all, not because of wallet issue, I think main reason is mobile phone security issue, not too much people will installed antivirus software on mobile phone, it's too easy to infected virus.

I think it is very dangerous.

It depends on the mobile wallet you are actually making use of, some mobile wallet are very much decentralized and that way it would be very difficult for hackers to gain access to your wallet to steal coins, one of the mobile wallet I make use of I am keeping large amount of coins and never regretted doing so is coinomi, coinomi is a decentralized wallet that gives you access to your private key and store all the datas directly on the blockchain with a cache in your mobile phone making it difficult for any hacker to penetrate into the wallet.

I think all kinds of mobile wallet can become unsafe but the user should take measure to protect it from possible hackers. Some newly created mobile wallet contains better features to secure its coins or tokens from hackers. Hackers usually use phising sites and other malicious links to enter your wallet so its betterto be aware or wary of any links that provided to you by your friends in any online media.

i think PC wallet and mobile wallet is same my friend, especially for a people with a lot of online activity in their PC or mobile
a virus or phissing link will always lurking us my friend
and because of that maybe the most safest wallet for cryptocurrency is paper wallet and hardware wallet

For Android(above 5.0) it is recommended to use the Electrum for storing the BTC. It is not secure to hold the cryptocurrencies in the desktop, mobile wallets. For shopping, a person can transfer the necessary amount of BTC to mobile wallet and he can use it for making a payment.

I think many people still use the mobile wallet. Through the mobile wallet indeed we get the convenience of getting information from our wallet at any time. Every time something happens in our wallet, the information is immediately sent on a mobile basis. There is a notification on our smartphone about that information. But it's true that this mobile wallet is dangerous. Mobile wallet is very risky for hacking. If we do not directly respond to the information provided by the mobile wallet, it is very possible that the information was stolen by someone else to hack this entire mobile wallet.

Yes I am. Why you think its more dangerous to use? I think web wallet is more dangerous since it is connected to a source or server which anytime can be breach while mobile wallet has centralized server directly connected on the app? Which do you think has more chance to get breached? See the chances here are big for web wallet. See Binance incident? A sole proof of that. Mobile wallet for me is much safer as it is not connected to more servers.

Not only mobile wallet but all online wallet also dangerous,

mobile wallet and online wallet are considered as one if you are using a mobile phone and yes all online wallets have risk  , thats why its always recomended to store our funds in a hardware wallet   .

even market with good safety still get hacked so if you want keep your asset for long time its better in offline wallet.

safety ? who says that a market ( crypto market ) is safety ? all kinds of market ( not only on crypto ) are actually have risk as long as its involved money  but crypto market is more risky of them all due to unstablenes of cryptos  . your right that its always a nice idea to secure our funds in a cold storage or offline wallet if we are going for long term  .

It's dangerous if you don't have a backup of your wallet, I am an Iphone user and I feel safe so far because the iPhone operating system itself is close source, it is quite difficult to enter malware.

I don't know if for users of Android and Windows Phone because cases that often occur are indications of malware on smartphones. I am an IT student and I understand how malware gets into smartphones, so backup your wallet and store it in cold storage, use it as needed if you save it on Android.

That is absolutely right. Having a mobile wallet is so dangerous. If youre meticulous about the security i think you should use hardware or paper wallet thats the most secure way in storing your bitcoins. I said that because I think all online wallets are prone to hacking. Phishing links are all over the internet. Your security really depends on yourself. It will be more secure if you use extra features like two way authentication like Google authenticator.

Your exposure to risk depend on the type of mobile wallet you are using.

Some of them may be designed, primarily to steal the funds of users. Which is why you need to be careful.

It dependes on your purposes. If you are making payments in person and not online then a mobile wallet is a must. If you will need to make frequent payments then it will be best to keep your funds in wallet that is easy to use and accessible. Mobile wallets and desktop wallets are good options.

Use a mobile wallet as your checking account, and a hardware or secure offline wallet as your savings account. Mix and match to find a combination that provides both security and accessibility

Any wallets other than your wallet, are have potential to be dangerous.
The safest wallet is your own wallet, such desktop wallet which you need to download the blockchain database first.
If you are using mobile wallet, the private key is not on your possession.

The best caution index you can have with a mobile wallet is that you put a balance not so high, in my case I use a wallet where I do not place more than 0.01Bitcoin, since it is more susceptible to possible hacking or have little security .

One measure is that it should be used with private key SHA-256, because I think it gives much more confidence to it, and in fact if you use a mobile wallet that your balance is for quick use, that is, if you are going to use the wallet mobile that is to actually use it and not have it to hold, because all transactions are tracked and can locate your transactions there, in an address that does not change in a while and that every time receives deposits and not withdrawals.

Always use different wallets and not hard with a lot of balance but little, when you are going to withdraw making a purchase or even to take out at ATM.

But only 5-10% of my total portfolio store in mobile wallets. For dapps and blockchain games mobile wallets are very helpful. And most of the time, conpromised wallets are usually the result of the user's own carelessness. I have 2 mobile wallets and a hard wallet that acts as my savings stash for almost 6 years now and i'm well confident about the security of my assets there. I think security on mobile wallet is safe *for the recommended mobile wallet obviously, but we also need to see the external factor like what if someday you lost your phone and you broke your phone and you forgot to back up and remember the private key. You can lost the balance forever.

I also use mobile wallets, and I think it's not too dangerous because as long as we can make sure the security of the wallet, we don't have to worry about anything. But it's better not to use that mobile wallet for anything, and we only use it for saving the cryptocurrency inside the wallet so we can prevent from any attacket that might comes. Don't forget to update the wallet if there is any update from the developer because that will help you to secure the wallet.

I think PC wallet is still the best for now for security and safety, it is safer than mobile wallet that people could easily have access to, but the only disadvantage is that one may not have access to PC wallet until we are close to the PC, but with a mobile wallet, one can easily be able to perform a transactions on the go.

Like many of others has also advised, I think the best would just be to probably hold both, either we leave small amount of coin for usage on the mobile wallet, that is utility tokens while we leave the investments coins and token  on the PC wallet, its safer to loose utility tokens than to lose investment tokens.

On a mobile phone, it is better to have exactly as many cryptocurrency as you need for daily use. If you have any capital in the form of digital assets, then it is reasonable and expedient to keep it in a hardware wallet for cold storage of cryptocurrency.

U would wait for hardware wallet integrated into mobile phones. It is more safe and couldn't be affected by software vulnerabilities.

That's right, security is very necessary for what you have right now because it is possible for all of you to work through your smartphone in the future.
I think security on mobile wallet is safe *for the recommended mobile wallet obviously, but we also need to see the external factor like what if someday you lost your phone and you broke your phone and you forgot to back up and remember the private key. You can lost the balance forever.
I think there is nothing wrong about mobile wallet and could be used easily but you need to have good antivirus software on your mobile which will protect your mobile from potential threat and maybe hack. Do you know about Abra? It is a mobile Bitcoin wallet that allows you to store and trade different coin. The user’s reviews are great about it.

I think it's especially dangerous for the spread of scammers here in forums as well as social media and telegram groups so other bounty hunters warn them about it because they can hack and access your wallet and steal your funds and altcoins for newbies be careful with the use of browsers or apps on your cellphone because they can be accessed and opened by other people or hackers using cookie settings in one apps or websites so be careful these.

How dangerous it is? I don't know much about using a wallet in mobile but I know that there are some wallets in mobile where you keep your own private key or seeds with you so I think it's safe,
I think it Is not dangerous if you are careful about your 2FA and secret keys. SO many people use mobile wallets for trading and daily things. There are couple of great mobile wallets over the internet and you could use them. They offer options/services to deal in any coin like ETH or Bitcoin etc. The problem with using mobile wallet is that you can easily get your mobile phone exposed to virus or maybe hack which is not good.

You are right there is too much potential threats when using mobile wallets. Though ironically speaking I also use one but the point is about 30% of the wallets seen in the app store are fake wallets. I also encountered one that says myetherwallet and when I searched in the MEW website for links to download the said app there was none (note this was about 2 years ago).

Exactly, the cold storage is super safe for keeping your crypto coins protected from hackers or any other harm. These wallets are not connected with the internet so hackers cannot reach out to your wallet and they have no influence. We should really focus on keeping out assets on exchanges and other hot wallets because hackers can reach out that is why choose the most preferred exchanges and wallets.

Anyone who use mobile wallets?
I think it is very dangerous.

All platforms are vulnerable for hacking. Yes, mobile wallet is the most vulnerable platform but we have to consider that our wrong habits will endanger our precious crypto on our wallet. If we are so careless on our private keys and passwords then that will be the time that hackers can easily go with our wallets. So we better keep it safe. If we have to use offline wallet then we use it for accounts that have large amounts.

Mobile wallets are useful generally but the mobile system itself cab easily infected by malware viruses and apps used by the cybercriminal to steal your data. There is also a possibility to lose all your assets if your phone damaged or stolen.

Mobile wallets were designed so that crypto enthusiasts can have access to their cryptocurrency portfolio wherever they are and yes some wallets are not trustworthy. Only use trusted mobile wallets such as Electroneum, Metamask or Blockchain app. These applications i can endorse to keep your funds safe from any form of hacking but remember the most important thing is to keep your passphrase to these wallets very safe. Because anybody who gets access to this passphrase can steal your funds.

Mobile wallets make it easy for you to make transactions when you are not if your home or office in places where you have your smart phone only. It is a kind of convenience and furthermore are also secure wallets because the app store and self-security of the application as well as your smart phone if secure from theft will not let the hackers to do something with your assets but they will only in contrast.

But yes, I suppose they tend to be safer than your regular desktop wallets, especially if your PC security systems are sub-par.

Yes you are right. Mobile wallets are kind of risky. But the thing is mobile wallets are very popular band easy to use. It's very handy to access. And in future we need this kind of wallet where if I have to pay with crypto we just can with a mobile. So mobile wallets are very useful and important for this ecosystem. But again the whole thing is not that tight security. Mostly those wallets which have the acces with email and phone number those have a chance of data bridge. So always put a bit of money in mobile wallets that's an open suggestion.

It is right that mobile wallets are secure but the cold ones which are not connected to the internet are 100% secure. If you love security then pick up cold wallets and if you want to start trading with your coins then many exchanges will help you in trading with your coins by creating an account on one of them. Do not use cold wallets if you want to make payments because it will not work as it is not connected with internet.

I've been using hardware Ledger Nano S wallet for 2 years. Used to think it's the most convenient and secure wallet in the cryptocurrency market now (24-word seed phrase for a back-up, for instance, and keeping a private key in the encrypted part of the wallet) since they obtained a Certification de Sécurité de Premier Niveau (First Level Security Certificate) (https://www.ssi.gouv.fr/entreprise/certification_cspn/ledger-nano-s-version-1-5-1-2c970001/), until I decided to update the version of the firmware from 1.3.1 to 1.8.0 in order to use more than 5 currencies simultaneously (I'm an active trader). The updation process is stuck. I can't use my wallet anymore. It turned out to be a common issue (https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/82f9gu/stuck_on_update/). The Ledger team could at least leave a warning note about this challenge in the account of a desktop version in order to avoid this difficulty in the future. As far as I understand, it's not workable anymore, as those ways undertaken to tackle the issue (based on their advice (https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005885733-Update-device-firmware) and users' help (https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/agodq5/stuck_in_bootloader_155_update/)) completely failed.

Now, I have to use a Coinomi wallet, since they support BIP32 layout for 24-word seed phrase for the recovery. It's inconvenient and doesn't have a user-friendly interface for customers though.

I would like to continue using my Ledger wallet, but I'm not ready to give them another $100-150. It's a disaster.

Totally devastated.  :(

I am using the mobile version of MEW and it is really great. Very user friendly interface and you can make transactions whenever you want, without any PC needed. Everything can be hacked, just be more careful with fishing links and so on.

It depends on how you use it. I don't prefer a mobile wallet, but still, I use them. Turn off any network connection before creating a new wallet, and after generating seeds, save your public address and delete all data. Now turn on your network and use any watch only wallet to monitor your funds. That's how you can stay safe.

Anyone who use mobile wallets?
I think it is very dangerous.

Can you give me some technical analysis why you say it's dangerous to use a mobile wallet that has PIN before one can sign in or that requires a password before one can send out tokens or before one can even see the private keys and other keys. I have been using mobile wallets and am still using them.
