Not a newbie but new in the altcoin space. I'm trying to find out some altcoin to invest a little amount. Suggest me some factors to consider before picking a coin. I am holding BTC and ETH as of now.

Well try to see how much value a coin over time and how much value now, and see how much supply has and if there is enough order to buy it, and if community is active  and you can try invest on.

Before investing your money in any altcoin project make sure you know the concept or goal of the project if its for long term or mid range term because not all altcoin are legit project. As of now my favorite altcoin are EOS, IOST and TRX you can check this altcoin goal and how this become my favorite.

There is no certain factors in here. Because there is no certain rules in market. We can talk about here all day long. But we always decide that everything is various. Sometimes a good news can rise altcoins but sometimes more than 10 news can't help.

So here we are. Market is full of risks. You have to be always careful. We all have to. But with some luck, everything will be good.

Not because for me the media like everything else is just a supporter because the media sees altcoin from its potential, there are good teams and very good relationships with each partner, don't beat every altcoin because I see there are many who have the potential to be extraordinary from top rank, the rest analyze from any aspect because it can make prices rise because it is hope for the future.

because a project will success or not, mostly depends on their team member my friend,

Decentralization is on the frist place. Creators shouldn´t have more than 10% of total supply.
Proof of work consensus is currently the most safest one.
Listed on Binance, to prevent low liquidity.
Useful altcoin with diffrent use than Bitcoin.
User friendly.

This is what i do

1- Look for the team. get know the founders, developer and the community see the intentions and goals
2- The product. Is it useful? Do you need it ?
3- Timing. There are moments when we are going through some harsh market and it's better to stay away
4- Price. Usually the price will tell you the range of your earnings cheap coins will get you more profit but are harder to predict while others with a decent price won't get you that much but it's relatively  easy to predict.

Here i'm copying my list of alts from a previous thread that i'm hodling

- Switch [ESH] Switch.ag token that represents fees from switch.ag and switchdex.ag. You get more tokens and ETH at the end of the month, meaning a constant investment and profit.
- Binance Coin [BNB] Even though this one is already known i still think that it will keep growing, just a good token that has way too many benefits.
- OriginTrail [TRAC] I believe this is a great project they just need more time they got enough contacts and partnerships to keep growing i believe in the same period of 2-3 years
- These 3 i like to do some constant trading since their price is usually really volatile THETA, WAX and ENJ

The first factor is Altcoin's first exchange listing time. It's trading block and liquidity of Altcoin. The number of exchanges has listed and the rate of difference between exchanges. These are my suggestions and hope that helps you in choosing Altcoin.

Now the way to consider it is very easy, namely by looking at a number of altcoin-altcoins that are often in the top list in some markets, and see which one highlights the price to go up, and what you hold is also a very good coin, BTC and ETH.

You've made the right choice already by investing in bitcoin and ethereum but if you aren't satisfy just do some research on top altcoins ,its more safer if you invest in popular altcoins ,they've been around for long time and there have been many upgrade since there release ,coins like xrp ,monero ,ada ,eos ,neo are all good altcoins ,they have real teams

I think you can choose from the top 10 coins at the CMC and that will be enough for you to invest if you want to hold it for a while. That list will increase higher because I see that the chance for the top 10 coins will be bigger than the other coins. In the top 10 coins, you can choose more than 2 coins for the investment, but I don't think that there is the best altcoin because ever altcoin will have the chance to be the good coin in the future.

It depends on what purpose you pursue: hold or profit now. If the first, then I advise you to leave in your financial portfolio BTC and ETH - buying for them other altcoins/tokens now you can blame yourself in the future when the BTC/ETH outgrowths and altcoins will fall in relation to them. If the second, then participate in exchange IEO (not all available funds!!!) - "play" but do not be greedy; there is a great chance to increase your depo.

Here, many are guided by fundamental analysis. I prefer to use TA. If you do not know the technical analysis of charts, then this is not your way.
The fact is that TA are an objective past. Based on this past, you can build your trading/investment system.
Since very few crypto projects are successful, it is unclear what determines the success of a cryptostartup. Therefore, the fundamental data for crypto project are subjective and do not have historical accuracy.
If I like TA of chart, I look for confirmation in the FA to make a decision.

My short answer is that anything that you think you can actually use. Not just for trading but also something you can use in your day-to-day transactions.

OP doesn't sound like a day trader so he must mean which altcoin to hold besides the eth he is holding.

If he intend to hold ETH and BTC he might also be interested to hold EOS as its almost the same thing with ETH. A factor to consider with EOS is that it has already built its own ecosystem same as TRON. So there you go. EOS and TRX would be wise to invest with.

Both ETH and BTC are safe and reliable. I would suggest you to stick most of your investment on those coins. Other than that, go to coinmarketcap. Check for the top 20 currencies. Look out for coins that has potential to grow. Invest on those coins. You might find some coins with extremely high percentage rise in 24 hours. Those are just some shit coins being manipulated by the developers. Avoid those coins.

You should always pay attention to the product of the project.  This is the most important thing for me.  Also, the price of the project and who its developers are important.  And the last is the number of users.  Following these factors, you can make a choice.

It is an autonomouns trade coin, it gives 2% every 15 days. Right now it is at a good price.

If you are holding btc and eth thwn you are fine because picking and choosing a new coin is not an easy task first you need to check the legitimacy of the coin then the team and then the practical viability of the project then you have to syudy the tokenomics and then comes the exchanges and volume part.

If want factors to consider before investing on cryptocurrency, then the most important thing you need to do is make a proper research and make comparisons between which altcoins you want to invest on

If you are looking for good Ethereum alternative learn more about EOS or Tron. Their Dapps are more used cause higher TPS rate of their chains.

to check for new coins is not a very easy thing because sometimes the research we do is not as we expected but if you want to invest in other coins you should choose the top 20 coinmerket because it can be more trusted

In my opinion Maybe you should see the movement of a coin and the volume of the coin so that you can decide which investment to coin, but now your choice to hold bitcoin and ethereum I think it's very appropriate and there will be big things in bitcoin and ethereum

One thing that drives the value of coin is the use case, thus use case is one of the factors to consider. Another is the team, how active and experienced are they matters a lot. If you check ETH you will see it passed all these, thus its value today.

The functionality of the entirety of the project driving the coin's value. If the coin has no use or juat a weak duplicate of other coin, then I'll consider the coin a shit coin. On the other hand, if its function is vey significant in cryprocurrency, then this is a good coin. Don't just rely on the price of the coin.

You're already holding good coins and if you want to diversify always check if the coin that you're interested with has some shady management or team. It means that you need to check also if the people behind it doesn't have shady past.

For me, i think the first step to consider for picking a good altcoins or crypto is the volume capacity of that coin, which means bitcoin and ethereum has the most volume coins in the market, investing in bitcoin and ethereum is a very good way. I think there is a lot good altcoin or investment beside bitcoin and ethereum. Its true that bitcoin and ethereum is safest investment in cryptomarket but i think Binance coin or EOS is good alternative beside ethereum or bitcoin

After deciding if you are investing on the short term or long term; you need to dyor and spot out the longevity of the project, finding out if it has what it takes to get increase in value the next 3-6 months

You need to tell us more information about how long you want to invest and how much. For example, in the near future I expect that the income can bring tokens BTT or XRP. For long term investments I would choose Tezos and Litecoin.

BNB Coin is good altcoin beside ethereum. With back up from big exchangers binance, i think BNB Coin price will increase and reach at least $50 end this year. IEOs from binance always sold out in a second and give profits to their investor and BNB Coin used for this

ETH and BTC are very good to hold now. Because both crypto is indeed very many people have it with long-term investment goals. But if you want to add another altcoin, of course it's better like XRP, Litecoin and BNB. Maybe the top altcoin is the best way to invest.

There is a coin ranking but I think it is not 100% guaranteed that that coin is better than some of the coins because of its ranking. It also depends on the time because a coin can skyrocket anytime time and become more profitable. But in my own speculation, Ethereum is still the best altcoin you can hold as of now.

In my perception, the best way to choose altcoin to invest with is that choosing altcoins that has a good reputation, and capable for a long term investment, this means that you can earn profit even for a long term holding what you buy. A good reputation coin even it drops its price, still it can increase in the future, like bitcoin and ethereum coin. Good coins to invest with, having assurance for earning profits in a long term investments.

the answer is already stated on your sentence ( " best altcoin " ) .  The best altcoins are always on the top rankings so for me i only pick them immediately without doing any research or considering any other factors as that will only kill my time but those things are still useful especially when you are going to pick unrated coins or new coins just because your looking for those hidden gems  .

Pick coins with active development (check projects github), what problems they are trying to solve, do they have an active community, etc.

Your holding a big assets indeed but do you chance to hold altcoins which is listed in cmc or top 10 atleast ? Maybe this altcoin will help you gain more profits if your lucky enough to pick those promising project. Just try to do some research if you want to have confidence in the token or coin you invested in.

The consideration that I convey is the fact when participating in crypto. I think a stable price level factor is the main. Even if we see the position of the coin in the list of 100, the coin can also have a chance to disappear, but the popularity of the coin is guaranteed.

If you already hold BTC and ETH I suggest you buy Ripple, Tron and Coin because the three coins have a lot of good that will later raise the price of the coin

There's something you really need to know if you are new in this kind of investment. when picking a altcoin you want to buy, buy only the coins that has a lower price what I mean by a lower price is when you buy it you don't need to invest a lot just a little money will do and wait for it to rise up to the % you want.

If you are going to buy cheap altcoins, there are so many out there that are really cheap but still giving you profits. DYOR is the key. But since you are seeking from the experienced traders, i would only suggest you to buy altcoins that are on the top list in the coinmarketcap. I've bought BNB many times  and i can really say that it is really has a potential. I also bought xrp and eos but to my disappointment, it did just give me some headaches not the profits.  :)

We have too many projects coming out this days with lots of promises and failures ,all I can say is listen to your heart ,apart from choosing good reasonable projects with working products it doesn't guaranteed that it will be a success

Consider the original pricing factor for an ALT product, usually every year there is a price change by looking at the chart price history he will return to the price at the fixing point. Lol , what do you think the purpose of this thread ? The op created it in the first place because he wanted to ask for suggestions or strategies when looking up a coin  .  why dont you give any of your method ?  Im sure you have your own standards before you buy a coin arent you ?  But in my case i look for the coin that is popular or already established in the crypto market  , also if the coin has a low supply .

I think choosing big and long-term projects is a safe and profitable investment method but not better than new projects.

Cheaper price doesnt guarantee the project are legit, its depen altcoin. If altcoin have working product and big liquidity, i think its worth to invest for long term but if daily trading volume not big and below $50k daily, i am prefer not holding this kind altcoin

Diregard the price of the altcoins choose an altcoin that has a use even its price drops. This is my main factor in choosing a cryptocurrency but of course a price matters because its a representation of the project.

I also consider of the future use and possible collaboration of the altcoin to other altcoins in this way it will surely increase the price of that cryptocurrency in the future and lastly choose a project that are transparent to its users and to its investors.

I have until today there were doubts about the project Ripple, and after the news about what the result of a hacker attack, the users of the service GateHub lost 23 million XRP. I do not recommend to buy this coin.

I have always considered Ripple as a shady currency, because there are no stats on the distribution of coins. GateHub has confirmed that XRP tokens worth close to $10 million were stolen by the hackers. More than 100 different wallets were targeted and this means that the hackers exploited a bug within the XRP system. I like picking projects that has better chances of surviving long term ,good road maps and hardworking teams with pro background ,they will be willing to lists on higher exchanges only and the coin must have a working product ,that's the only way it will keep having value over time

In my own understanding, the first factor is the team behind that project. You need to check their relevant experience as well as their Advisors to be sure they have the power to drive the platform. Secondly, you need to check the project itself to see if it's achievable by that team, then check the community and how effective they are. I think these will help you make the right choice.

In past i do that too. Usually i pick project that related to VISA or gambling site. Because both of it can be developed and can survived. About gambling site, as long they still open their services, i think their coins will always can be used.

Most people dominant like to BTC and ETH, other allcoints also have potential prices on the market. check the ranking of market capitalization, transaction volume, available supply and other supporting factors.

I once used to have factors to consider when I was selecting an altcoin but until the bearish market turned up and should the vulnerability of altcoins and initial coin offering projects now my factor are you must at least have an average reputation

I think you should consider TRX, there has been many dapps built on TRON blockchain and also many advancements which gear towards adoption slowly. Also look at EOS, the developers are really doing great, for instance VOICE social platform released recently proves this. Other good picks are ICX, NEO, WABI, VET.   Note that these are just my picks, not financial advice.

I think the first criteria to look at is the idea behind the project or coin, how unique is? What is it trying to solve? Also, you will have to check the team to be sure they have the needed experience in order to fulfill their mandate.
The last point is about the community that is twitter, Facebook etc , how active it is and so on will tell you how active the team is too.

For an altcoin to be good or best as stated by you, the team have to be good or the best to. This is because, it is what they know that they will offer or put to use, thus the altcoin. So that is to say, the team matter a whole lot in any project thereby the most important factor. Another factor is Community or instead the social media platforms and how active they are.

Picking the best altcoin is key and very important to note. There are a lot of factors to considerably when choosing the best altcoin but the most important one's are, hard work and research. The one who is good at hard work is not lazy at researching. Being able to do a massive researxh about the altcoin, the team behinds it, the projects value and the projects support system is very important and also how the team respond to their social media handles.

Maybe you are but I know that you some point of views and ideas which gives the best among the others. Isn't new for you to hear ETH, XRP, and EOS, looking into their market volume will simply make you get interest in investing with them. Don't have new coins to promote for now because a lot of speculation in it. But i do hold Bitcoin and Ethereum too, btw Ethereum is altcoin too right so it is already suggestion maybe. I always do that thing.

There are still many coins that have very good potential besides Bitcoin and Ethereum. And you can monitor market conditions to get potential coins. I suggest that you buy the top coins better. Because the top coin has a very good trading volume. Like XRP, EOS, BNB, and LTC that this coin has very good potential and very high trading volume.

Of course the factor you nedd to consider to pick a altcoin are having a good quality of product and having great platform also a team behind that altcoin. That's why it's important to make research before you invest in any altcoin.

I sugges you hold that first. Dont be too reckless on putting it on alts cause it is very risky. Me, Im dumping some of my alts if I got a good deal on exchanging it for btc and eth. Im feeling very bullish about eth and btc especially many projects are now introducing their line. Im shocked when facebook is really pursuung their cryptocurrency project, thought it was a myth. If they will do an ICO then joined them probably an alt that will soar high.

The volume in which the alts is generating in exchange which I think is the real deal that makes some that are very conversant with day trading to get in , also the product of the alts which they are using as the goal to the community is also very much reason we should invest in them .

Indeed, a lot factor to consider before choosing best altcoin. The main factor beside developers team is good partnertship with big company. If the project have partnertship with company like IBM or Microsoft, investor must be want to invest

For me, the main factor when choosing altcoin is where this token or coin listed. If listed in big exchangers like binance, i will choose token or coin with big trading volume. Sometimes choosing from small or mid exchangers is good choice but i am prefer choosing coin or token from big exchangers with big volume

A lot of people will always go for ethereum whenever they talk altcoin, and that's because Ethereum is already popular so they don't care what ever, all they know is that it is popular and everyone likes it, so they are going for it. I think the factor that needs to be looked at is the price movement of crypto currencies at least in the last six months, we also have to look at the fluctuations of the competitors of the crypto currency coins we want, and we have to look at the volume that occurs from time to time. We must know thoroughly about this coin. Then, what is also important is the technology that this coin carries. This technology can determine whether a coin will survive or not on the market.
