The funny thing about his statement is that he stated that eventually the government will interefere with the bitcoin rise , but not blockchain.

We can't deny the fact that it happens to some countries. However it is also undeniable how the government is going to adopt blockchain tech just like what had happened to Bangladesh.

Tho, he also have good points. It is the controlling game from the government that is going to challenge bitcoin economy. However this being untraceable is still much powerful and the main reason why even if there are certain governments who already have pointed their guns out, its people are still using it.

What he calls 'Blockchain' has nothing to do with what I would call 'Blockchain'. I have a slight feeling, that Mr. Rogers doesn't know jack shit about either 'Blockchain' or Bitcoin' or any cryptocurrency. He probably only knows that its price goes up and down.

The advantages that the blockchain offers, namely, decentralization, security, transparency, will eventually become the most relevant. And without them, modern companies will remain in a worse position than those who have already integrated the blockchain into their systems.

Reading too much of an article which does not totally support their claims will bring no good to you and to the community. If that's the case then try reading the history of Fiat currency. First they think that using money for trading will not prosper but look at what happen today, it still go on without looking back to what it was before. Time will come that people will embrace cryptocurrency and this will never die nor go back to zero.

Pretty obvious that this is just a old fart like Warren Buffett and Soros so what you you expect from them? They don't understand what crypto is, hence the attack, so don't be surprised by the statement though.

I don't know that guy but after researching about his name with few descriptions appeared after, I already got him. One describes him is that he's a financial commentator and he's a businessman which mostly defines his expertise in finance.

We all knew it that most of the experts that works for finance were all against bitcoin because they see it as a tough competitor for their businessness. Just like the first few people that said bitcoin/crypto's are nothing and isn't usable.

you can't shut down something that is decentralized and make it disappear as long as people find it useful and continue using it. which is true about bitcoin. it is like saying torrent network will disappear but peer to peer connections will remain! you can't shut down torrent network since it consists of peers connecting to each other and sharing file. bitcoin is a much stronger implementation of a decentralized peer to peer network.

what will disappear is two things: 1. the altcoins without usage that keep being created even if they have the biggest market cap among altcoins 2. the government and bank issue tokens that are more centralized than anything else.

well!i find it difficult to agree to this, but to say some altcoin even bitcoin may disappear but not all cryptocurrency.of course with the help of blockchain we are sure of having it rather transformed and the idea cannot just perish. the negative impression of many is against bitcoin itself and this is due to the shallow knowledge of it.

I guess he can say whatever he wants and I guess he wants to make controversial news to the public. But for us who already knew cryptocurrency before will not believe to him because we believe that cryptocurrency will stay for a long time and will help us to gain the benefits of cryptocurrency. I think many people now become smart than the last few years because they already learn the details of the cryptocurrency so they can know more about the cryptocurrency.

I think people will stay calm from that news, and they will react as the market situations, and they will not panic with the bad news that will always come. There will be many more bad news in the future that will release to the public, and we need to stay calm from that.

I think it's just a speculation from someone that really don't know that much about cryptocurrency and block chain, i think he just based it on the price alone and not the uses cases. Cryptocurrency will be mainstream and if its gonna disappear maybe in a hundred or thousand years if no one will use it.

This is the little thing that most governments do not get. The government get their guns from money that was collected from taxes and if that dries up then they will be defenceless.  ;)  We see a lot of countries where they misuse their power and the tax paying public starts to emigrate or flee the country and take their taxes with them.  ;)

A government is just as strong as the people supporting them and that will end as soon as they start using their guns. In countries where this has happened, the economy of that country starts to fail. <Other countries boycott them or they implement sanctions.>  ::)

If indeed Crypto does not have a prospect, why is the price so expensive? Even if it counts until now, so does the daily volume. What are the reasons for the government? digital currency is an ecosystem that will continue to grow. for me the use of digital currencies will experience a significant increase every year. there is no reason why we are not sure about digital currencies. believe that this is a technology and revolution in the world currency system in the future.

No one knows how long crypto will last, some new tech could come along and completely take away crypto's dominance.  I would never suggest putting everything you have into bitcoin, it is far too risky at this point.  Blockchain is still very young but old at the same time meaning its tech can be outdated.

For me,i believe that cryptocurrency will have its own time to vanish but it might happen maybe hundred years from now.Cryptocurrency will still be more popular few years from now and in fact,some of the governments are starting to adopt bitcoin as a cryptocurrency so hopefully,more countries will start to see the potentials of cryptos too.As long as blockchain is still present,then cryptos will surely go along with it too.

Blockchain as many would say is one of the greatest inventions that man has ever made/created (shout out to Satoshi!). I wouldn't be surprised if the governments do make use of it in the future. Crypto on the other hand would definitely stay for a long time as it is said to be in its infancy. The blockchain technology is going to take over the normal way of doing thing globally, i.e the electoral system, the educational system to name a few will be integrated into the blockchain technology to enable flexibility and transparency. Sure , blockchain technology can exist independently of cryptocurrencies but cryptocurrencies also have their inherent potential; cheap, fast and secure transactions. Crypto can not exist without the blockchain, but the blockchain is also working with crypto. If many countries support cryptocurrencies, then it will also exist and be used very actively.

Unless they do a full audit on each citizen labelling their fiat transaction to be crypto based or not. Governments certainly doesn't like local fiats getting exchanges to foreign assets that doesn't promote circulation, blockchain I will say it's still a very grey line where transparency where sometimes not intended for some cases and lack centralised controls. At least for two reasons (there can be more). First, right now Bitcoin is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things (read, it is a minor pain in the government ass, if at all). But when (if) Bitcoin becomes a real thing (not that it is not in itself but in the government's eye), it will be too late to ban it (think gold here). And second and most important, major governments cannot agree on a lot more important things, so it is very doubtful they will all universally agree on banning Bitcoin. China (and probably Russia) would be happy but Uncle Sam (and his European minions) will never sign up just to spite Panda (and Bear)

Disappearing of cryptocurrency is possible but we cant tell when it is gonna happen. I think cryptocurrency would disappear not because of bitcoin losses its value, but the bunch of altcoins that are being created and several of them has just a dump price.

I won't believe this even if a tech giant like bill gate or Jeff Bezos has said this. CC is now decade old and it's market cap is around 200 billion USD. I advise not to follow such people as they have limited sight on CC.

I still know somewhere there are people who want to own Bitcoin and altcoin at the best prices and throw lies to aim for profit.  Blockchain is at the most powerful stage of development.  There are many investors and investment organizations looking to develop products from blockchain that save and make more money.  Currently Blockchain is the trend of the world and will not know it in 20-30 years.  The future is unknown, all is speculation.

I don't think if you check the market cap there a lot of cryptocurrencies, that are gaining support and interest from the community, and there are a lot of cryptocurrencies that keeps on developing their products and platforms, cryptocurrency is here to stay and they are going to stay alongside Bitcoin.

For me, cryptocurrency is not going to disappear even theirs a lot of issues that cryptocurrency are facing, and yet they are some big company already accept cryptos as payment, and this establishment that is accepting cryptos are also growing. I really do not share Jim Rogers' view that cryptocurrencies are going to disappear simply because governments have guns, often forget that governments are at the service of people and do not function like islands, cryptocurrencies are going to gain a position solid in the market because they adapt perfectly to this new digital and globalized era, the pressure on the part of the users of a system is much greater than any weapon and cryptocurrencies are not a whim, but a great opportunity for all.

Libertyreserve was never decentralised. It had central servers which could easily be targeted and shut down. The beauty of a peer to peer network like bitcoin is that their is nobody to target and nothing to shut down. 

For me, I honestly think that they’re going nowhere. There is no way that the government would control it. However, they can regulate it to control against suspicious transactions or so.

They just don’t realize how cryptocurrencies meant for us people, because it gives us the opportunity to be the ones controlling it and not the government or SEC.

Cryptocurrencies are here to stay. It’s spreading everywhere like virus even up to the smallest device where we could deposit and transact some crypto (especially cold wallets).

a lot of the current existing cryptocurrencies are heavily centralized even though some of them don't want to admit it publicly. for example tether is one of the most popular centralized altcoins that can easily be closed down and killed. similarly the same thing can happen to ripple, ethereum,... and a lot of others that the government has a place to attack and shut down.

Cryptocurrencies were backed by a large number of interconnected systems which keep the network alive. Cryptocurrencies never get disappear as the usage keeps on counting. As it is peer to peer, even when there is strong regulation the usage will continue. Knowing these factors governments keep its eye over the market and regulating the use of cryptocurrencies without affecting the economy.

It always amuses me when I read such articles. Cryptocurrency came from nothing! 10,000 BTC  was once used to buy pizza. So when someone says cryptocurrency will disappear it only amuses me. It can't and it won't but many alts will die out just like they already have/are.

Statements like this were never thought of and was given little chance to prove the fact if this was even true. Cryptocurrency was always criticized that it would not go any further but as time passes, more and more Cryptos are being made because they want a society that is cashless and that would be hassle free. It would avoid P2P transactions and that is somehow safer if you are scared to meet in person. Crypto is slowly being adapted to some places and would still be popular due to its help.

Agree, I think cryptocurrency will never disappear mainly because I think no one will not use cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency has a lot of benefits to most people and I think it is impossible that it will just disappear in just one blow. Also, with years of existence of cryptocurrency with all the criticisms, crypto is still alive and got a little stronger, so I can say cryptocurrency is here to stay.

There is no logic in it. Cryptocurrency will not disappear, because a large number of people use it. There are some things that cann't be realized without crypto. Opinions are like the way we walk, everybody has his/her own unique style of walking.  People are entittled to their own opinion regarding any issues they feel like addressing. But I don't think  Jim Rodgers understands that blockchain technology can only function with cryptocurrency. There is no way blockchain will be able to function in its fullest capacity without cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is here to stay, unless blockchain technology dies.

The OP is not claiming that Bitcoin and Blockchain will cease to exist. Read the thread carefully and you will know that he is speaking about a scenario in which most of the Bitcoiners will stop using cryptocurrency under government pressure. We can't discount this possibility, as I am seeing this right now before my own eyes here in India.

That's not gonna happen. Jim Rogers is so wrong on this statement.
Cryptocurrencies and blockchain are strictly related the one to the other. We cannot have the one without the other. All cryptocurrencies are developed based on the blockchain techonology. Having said that, if we blockchain survives, cryptocurrencies are going to survive as well.

That's because even the saw a declining market trend but still, they give trust in crypto and even positive that it will be regaining its reputation against a negative accusation by the community. As I saw it by myself that it will be existing for many years, until such time that there is another technology that could be more useful than of crypto.

Dissappear as in what manner? I really don't know why people have been putting together such news and I know maybe they want BTC to die but this will never happen as the blockchain lives.

The blockchain lives even without bitcoin, but I don't think people who made bitcoin successful will just allow it to die.
Bitcoin's success made this whole crypto market grows, and even if some altcoins are dying, there's a new one that will be created and as long as bitcoin holds dominant rate, the market will remain strong and has a potential to continue to grow bigger.

But I'm not sure you understand. Of course blockchain tech can function without cryptocurrency. And tech doesn't die, iterations of it do. They transition, they do get replaced, but as long as they are foundational, and I think cryptography is a foundational tech, blockchain can't really "die" in this sense.

Money, the way money is now in fiat, and money in the way crypto is, these are fairly new concepts and they likely will evolve even further in just a few more generations. It may be cryptography continues to be used in daily life but if the concept of money does change, hard to see crypto not being a casualty of that. Not in our lifetimes of course!

The growth of cryptocurrency keeps on progressing as more and more people starts to use the same. From my view cryptocurrency is one of the success stories of blockchain technology. This way technology will get its growth continue through one way or another. As of now every time what's been stated as an opposing factor is its illegal usage. Whether it is cryptocurrency or something else it'll be used on good as well on the bad things. This makes room for growth than disappearing.

It's just that not everyone believes that in the good future of BTC, some hate BTC while people like us believe.
We have our own opinion and let's respect those who don't believe that crypto will stay, we invested here because we believe and we the one who experience using crypto coins can tell they are efficient and their platform is good.

While some people are doubting, the market continues to grow, and although this year the market has not recovered yet, but it's fundamentals are good and only those who believe in bitcoin sees it. Let us not look at the value alone as we will not able to get its real value, let's look at the development inside the crypto market and I'm sure we will see how much undervalued this market is.

Even if most of the altcoins will disappear, still cryptocurrencies with stronger foundation will stay. I don't think crypto will totally disappear with the current rate of creation of these coins. I do agree that most of them will disappear into thin air but those with real applications and purpose will gonna survive.

Some altcoins will disappear, that is for sure. They can't all survive at the market but the selection is taking place all the time anyway.
With time not so new ones will appear on the market but the strongest and best ones will survive. Cryptocurrencies are the future.

Cryptocurrencies will not disappear, it would be impossible for a centralized gov make bitcoin disappear due to the decentralized nature. Alt's on the other hand, could well see a lot more disappearing from the boards but not due to regulation but more so due to ineffective marketing and failure to gain traction.
There will be a large number of protocols and Dapps which will remain.
