The boys are worthless though; only 10-12 of them get to mate, the rest of the time they just fly about; they don't work or contribute to the hive and are free to walk into any hive and feast.

They do get culled during winter though.

Woohoo bee buddy! I got my first hives in April this year as well. When did you get yours? I only got one hive at first and then the second a couple of weeks later after getting to see just how cool the first was. Good thing too because I had to requeen the second hive and ended up raising a new queen by transplanting a frame of eggs from the queenright hive. Knock on wood but I haven't seemed to have any issue with mites, hive beetles, or diseases yet. Going through the first summer dearth is a little nervewracking, but just gotta let the little pals do their thing I guess.

I smashed my queen trying to mark her, but at least now she can harmonize with the local bees ;)

Whats odd about enjoying bees with your fellow Bitcointalkgoer? My hives are Russian-Italian hybrids but I don't have a lot of photos as my hands are normally full of bees instead of phones to snap photos with, but I did grab a shot of a queen yesterday. Shes about a month old or so, so still tiny.

She wasn't technically dead when she was smashed and I didn't want to piss off the hive further. I let nature do its thing. I'm probably just going to keep to taking photos of the lovely girl instead of trying to mark her.

I've got some black, some yellow, and some of the entirely plastic frames. The entirely plastic frames are absolute junk. I would have tossed them by now, but they are frames 4/5/6 in my hive that was queenless for a few weeks, so I figured best not to mess with it for a while. I'm going to try to go foundationless next nectar flow now that I've got ~30ish frames drawn out to use as guides.

Are you using small or medium boxes? Your frames looked pretty short from the pictures.

My bees are friendly, I wouldn't say they love me though. I kill about 300 every few weeks for varroa testing.

Hehe, I'm running three deeps per hive and using a medium as a honey super. I'll tell you, no matter how strong you are, there is no human comfortable lifting a 130 lb box full of stinging insects. I might switch over to mediums at some point but that'd be when I have 6 hives with each of my current deeps as the box on the bottom board that doesn't need to be moved. Can't have good equipment going to waste! Maybe next year  :P

What is it with friendly bees? I get into my hives without smoking them when I'm not going in for a full inspection, and have yet to have a problem. I've heard about hot hives where the bees become a problem but I just can't picture it (and hope that I'll never have to)

I was at a different hive location recently and those ladies were evil bastards. Kept going for the face even when I walked 30 ft away from the hive. They stayed at it until I got a smoker lit.

That is a good idea lol! Honey for bitcoin will be a good business to do and for some of us that wish to trade honey for bitcoin you can contact me . I am not into honey farm but I have a friend that is into that and you can buy honey in large quantities from his farm and in turn I will convince him to accept bitcoin as a payment method.

So, I did a hive inspection yesterday.

I didn't do a varroa count. Too hot to treat with mite-away quick strips.

Nice. My uncle also kept bees for a while (few months only) but he couldn't manage it all alone and decided to stop. This was somewhere around the year 2015, if i recall.
Btw, i might still have a click of that somewhere on my old hard-drive, if i manage to find it i will surely share it here, they look very nice like the one's you shared here.

I think this requires a good amount of dedicated attention.

There's like 3 different types of bees, two types are females, one type is male.

Worker bees, which are in the OP, are females.

Drones are male.

Queens are females.

Imho, the easiest way to tell the drone from the queen is the eyes. Drones are much larger than worker bees.

My best friend started having hive wayback 2015 and now he’s the biggest supplier of Honey in he’s region so basically this isn’t profitable and also helpful to the environment

My friend keeps bees, it's an insanely profitable business.

When people say they "do it for the honeys" I usually don't expect them to mean this. Cool pics.

Heres a documentary on youtube about funny honey. In Nepal, they climb cliff sides to harvest honey from giant himalayan bees. There are a lot of wild poisonous plants in the area, primarily rhododendrons, that the bees collect nectar and pollen from that makes the honey they produce toxic. People sure are drawn to poison huh?

Those inlets. You probably have so much robbing.

I'm just as surprised as you, but apparently not. I see the occasional bee try to get in through the ventilation up top, but I've only seen the tussle between guard bees and robbers once. They take out plenty of wasps though. I have a tremendous amount of guard bees that cover the entire landing board (and come peacefully check me out whenever I sit down next to the hive).  I watch them smell and crawl over any incoming bees before they are allowed in.

It probably doesn't hurt that I haven't hit a dearth yet.

But it needs lot of experience as well,pure honey is one of the expensive and most wanted medicine to cure many disease and also gor skin care like cosmetic products so have good potential in long term as well.

That's the royal jelly, not just the simple honey. Honey is healthy and great tasting as well though.

I would rather just grow my tomatoes and fruit trees with no effort and get fruit that I like a lot more than honey.

I didnt get into beekeeping for the honey. I have a sizable garden and a handful of fruit trees, and having reliable pollination greatly increases crop yield. Bees are more work than a lot of people expect though. I'd say I spend maybe an hour per week checking bees (takes me about 2 hours every other week) for the most part though, and that seems to be pretty standard unless you find something wrong, then you need to spend more time.

thats a good point but I get more than enough yield from my few trees and plants.  More than I could ever eat.

But you need bees for the proliferation,if there is no process happening on the trees then only leaves will be left in this world no more fruits and flowers.

If there is no bee then humankind will extinct.

Food autarky is hard to obtain. Pollination makes it complicated. Tbh, with complex robots, we could make it happen.

Flowers are awesome prey. They just sit there and make juices when the sun comes out. It's perfect prey, they can't run and make new food daily. ;)

Previously, in the back of my house, there was a flock of homeless bees nesting, but after a few months they left me.

Where do you guys keep those hives? I have seen people that have hives on the top of the big buildings in the middle of the cities. Not sure how healthy souch honey would be, filled with exaust gasses and such.

Sorry have nothing to share since I have no bees around but I am very interested in entering bee farming and I am following this thread and getting other actual experiences because it’s more helpful than those ideas I’ve got in YouTube

It's a great business to grow bees and sell honey Now I find very few such businesses If you can continue your business properly without having to get a small amount of honey you will be able to acquire many paths and if you do this business to buy Bitcoin you can buy it easily Now BTC prices are a much better time to buy BTC much less.

If you have them in order to produce honey or other products that have as base the honey from your bees then I think that you did the right thing.
Otherwise, I don't find any interest in that. You will have to transfer your hives from places to places in order not to mess with other hives and feed them with the food that you think it is the best for them.
