Title: Function X - The first fully blockchain-powered phone (Blok on Blok)
Post by: agungbstn on October 03, 2019, 06:38:40 AM

XPhone prototype has gone through many improvements since it made history with the first blockchain phone call last October. Function X team has taken user's feedback from the various events where they showcased and demonstrated the prototype and from hence, made changes to its design, adding new features and making it funky and giving the users to have the flexibility to build.

One of these significant changes is in its name. While “XPhone” is our internal code name, Function X team feel that the product name better captures aspirations for what this product will be: a device that allows people to participate, to build, to use with a more secure, more transparent, and more seamless digital experience.

Today, I’m proud to introduce Pundi X’s blockchain phone prototype “BOB,” which stands for “Blok On Blok.”

---The blockchain, in your grasp---
BOB will be able to seamlessly switch between Android mode and blockchain mode at the click of a button. In Android mode, one can count on BOB the way we use smartphones today, running on Android 9.0
Where it stands out is in blockchain mode, wherein every bit of data sent through BOB will be executed in the Function X blockchain. When a user sends a text message or makes a call through BOB, that message or call will be transmitted through various actions executed on the blockchain, rather than through a centralized mobile carrier. This gives users complete control and ownership over their data.

This is made possible through its own OS called f(x), which will be installed in every BOB unit. The technology within this OS makes sure that every action done on the phone is decentralized, which makes BOB the first truly blockchain-powered phone in the world.
Moreover, every unit of BOB will function as a node on the Function X blockchain. This gives BOB owners the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of the Function X ecosystem, and for that matter the propagation of blockchain technology itself, bringing it mainstream with increased usage of blockchain now literally in their grasp.

---Customizable design, infinite use cases---
With a new name comes a new design. Inspired by our favorite classic sci-fi movies and comic books, BOB’s design blends both retro and futuristic elements. This represents both the classic smartphone concept and the genuinely revolutionary technology powering BOB.
Each unit of BOB will thus come with a MOD Assembly Kit, which not only means that you’ll be building your own unit, but that you’ll also be able to customize how your BOB looks. You will have complete control over not only your data but also your phone’s look.
This flexibility in design also extends to BOB’s internal technology. Once we start rolling out BOB, the f(x)OS and BOB hardware will be published as open-source for everyone to build and iterate with. This reinforces our mission of making blockchain more accessible to everyone by giving users the opportunity to build their own use cases out of the f(x) OS.

---Flex your creativity---
With these in mind, we’d like to invite the creative members of our community to submit their own BOB designs. With the flexibility provided by the MOD Assembly Kit, users can apply their own aesthetics to their BOB unit and even add more parts and accessories via 3D printing.

We’ll be distributing free MOD Assembly Kits to the lucky users who have design ideas for BOB. We’ll then put it up to voting by the community, and the 10 highest-voted designs will be manufactured and distributed.
For the rest of the community, we’ll open pre-orders for BOB via Kickstarter and XWallet. We’ll announce more details on the timeline very soon.

---Brave new world---
As the world’s first truly decentralized phone, we believe BOB represents the next evolution of the smartphone, and an important development or milestone in the evolution of the Internet itself. The case isn’t just for making smartphones more powerful or more loaded with features. By taking it to the blockchain, we are also creating a more safe, secure, user-friendly and generally new mobile and data experience — one that will renew people’s faith in the Internet.
We’re still finalizing several details about BOB, so we have more to announce in the future.

To follow our progress, you can read the details on the official Function X website at https://functionx.io/#/bob (https://functionx.io/#/bob)
For now, we look forward to hearing what you think of BOB and the brave new world it is building.

The Function X team has also created the world’s fully blockchain-powered phone called Blok On Blok (or BOB for short) so that users can use it as a gateway to access the decentralized benefits of the Function X ecosystem.

There are some similar projects in the Blockchain Phone segment, such as the following listed below but the issue is that these so called blockchain phones aren’t really blockchain powered in nature. They are just primarily an Android phone that is combined with a crypto wallet. Blok On Blok is the only phone that operates on the blockchain which makes blockchain calling, texting, surfing the blockchain Internet possible.

The other smartphones are just Wallet and not a proper Blochchain Phone like the Blok On Blok.
I'm looking forward to the Blok On Blok

Function X OS Completely Open Source
Once BOB is shipped out, Function X OS (including its Android portion of the code) will be released to the world as an Open Source OS.

Developers will be free to use the Function X OS to create and build their own custom blockchain operating environment while running it on BOB hardware. Not all of BOB driver files will be available at first but it will not restrict any custom creation of blockchain operating systems and services.

Naturally, when the project claimed their product was the first in the world for a blockchain, because they made a product that was definitely different from the others, so they dare to say the first in the world, and what you should know is that this X function is really real and its development is also very good, and the price of FX tokens on credit is also very expensive, meaning the Function X team is working very seriously in building projects and releasing products.

There's an X-phone claim and a POS device running around. But it is very difficult to come across an example in real life. Any project with the support of Pundix has already offered dozens of products. However, Pundix continues to releasing more&more NPXS and FX on the market with ridiculous events.

I won't be surprised if they announce another crypto in the near future. In the meantime, there are those who keep NPXS purchased from 200 satoshi in their wallets. I think the team owes these people.

I still don't understand how this phone works.
If not through a centralized mobile network, how can these phones be connected?
I just saw that Function X has a pretty cool bonus program, everyone can join here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5166702.0

For example, X want to call to Y.
The node which receive the call data will verify based on the signoff by X's private key.
After verification, the call data will be saved on Function X Blockchain.
The nodes connected to Y's BOB phone will constantly filter the data which belongs to Y.
When received, the nodes will deliver it to Y.
Once Y;s device decrypts, he can accept the call.

Bitwings mobile is a proper blockchain phone, have you done your research on them? they have integrated private OS for the phone apart from the secured inbuilt wallet, the phone is capable of mining eth with new POF (prove of data) technology from neobit

I have researched what you mentioned above, I think they focused on mining phone. While BOB is fully blockchain phone, decentralized of Function X.

with BOB you would to do calling, texting and browsing using nodes through blockchain-internet powered (fully-blockchain-phone). It's quite different with what you mentioned above.

Function X BoB is quite a cool concept but it is a big challenge on how can they compete with existing mobile phone market. Yes its a blockchain phone of course and it will be an another leap to f it catches the consumers appetite of using a blockchain phone, the design is nice reminds me of the Caterpillar phones if your familiar.

The kit is designed to be easy to assemble along with a detailed instructional guide and video. For the more hands-on creators, you will have the option to 3D print additional phone parts to add to your BOB.

With the freedom to assemble your own phone, unleash your creativity to build your own unique BOB.

I have take alook what you have mentioned above. I find different feature on the different phone. but most of all,  they just a phone with additional wallet works on the phone. furthermore, some of those phones offer a high prices. And all of them come out with the secure phone at the same time.

While talk about Blok on Blok, you can switch easily between the traditional android mode and the blockcahin  mode as well. It can be moved as you need. Moreover, BOB has own transmission protocol network and own OS which is F(x) FXTP and F(x) OS thats blockchain-compatibile.

On a blockchain meeting, when all are having latest models of Samsung or iPhone, I will feel ashamed to show my function x mobile :)

BOB Hardware Design Is Open Source
Upon the release of BOB, all of its hardware design rendering files will be made available for more hands-on users to be able to download, modify and 3D print the parts to make their own BOB modifications. We hope to see a thriving BOB MOD community where BOB MOD enthusiasts will create new parts to exchange, trade or even sell their design creations.

BlokOnBlok (BOB for short) will be the world’s first decentralized smartphone, which includes your calls, file storage, messages and so on. The production of BOB is on schedule. PundiX is now finalizing the product specs and moving forward to the first test production of BOB.

It is just customize design. But moving forward, Pundi X will be working with smartphone manufacturers and telecom companies to create more blockchain phones, and all our blockchain phones will be connected to the FX mainnet.

Retro-Futuristic Sci-fi Design
The design philosophy behind BOB is inspired from the sci-fi films and comics from the 80s and 90s. XPhone takes the classic retro-ness design which you love and combine it with the avant-garde future tech to create a phone that is familiar, cutting edge and uniquely yours at the same time.

while with the f(x) OS powering BOB, it is the world's first true blockchain phone that is secure and decentralized to its core. The f(x) OS allows you to tap into the Function X ecosystem that is built entirely on the blockchain. Each BOB functions like a node, supporting the Function X blockchain. Unlike traditional phones, you will no longer require a centralized service provider to call, message, browse the internet or access app services.

The node which receives the message or data will verify based on the signoff by A's private key, after verification, the message will be saved on the Function X Blockchain. The nodes connected to B's BoB (XPhone) will constantly filter the data or message which belongs to B. When received, the nodes will deliver it to B. Once B’s device decrypts, B can review the message.

Could you describe more of this. Using internet on a mobile will be possible without wi-fi or mobile data?

Once the special pre-order in XWallet is done, we will open to the public for BOB pre-order on Kickstarter and CAMPFIRE (Japan). Also, on XWallate as well.

How about sirinlabs cryptocurrency phone? It's been there since before last year. Every cryptocurrency project producing mobile phone shouldn't claim to be the first to do such, let's see a working phone to determine which is best.

when BOB dares to claim like what you told above, it means that something can be distinguished from the others. There is something truly extraordinary about BOB itself. Fx has the best and strong team to build BOB up until BOB finally does a preorder.

here's the one month chart.

I was happy watching it pumped to 0.3 usd but I think it did not survive when BTC dump below $10K so we are in the downtrend now?

BOB will come in a MOD Assembly Kit which contains the following core components: The motherboard, display screen, camera, audio speaker parts, buttons and aesthetic accessory enhancements to personalize the look and feel. The kit is designed to be easy to assemble along with a detailed instructional guide and video. For the more hands-on creators, you will have the option to 3D print additional phone parts to add to your BOB.

With the freedom to assemble your own phone, unleash your creativity to build your own unique BOB.

The idea is great to have a blockchain based phone, but what competitive advantages this phone has in front of the most popular models from Samsung or Apple. We need something that will boost the mass adoption and this device is created for a small circle of interested people.

For blockchain users/activists this breakthrough phone is their dream because XPhone-BOB will facilitate them in doing everything about blockchain, and certainly Xphone is decentralized. confidentiality and security are the advantages that blockchain users really want. On xphone everything can be done using nodes in blockchain mode. The blockchain mode allows a user to be connected to the blockchain - everything you do in this mode such as texting, calling, taking photos, browsing, etc. will be transmitted via the blockchain. No more Simcard provider connection. while other cellphones only provide devices that can be connected to the wallet.

which is quite expected as none of the product is out yet, but i heard orders are opening soon, maybe we'll see a price jump then ?

i personally am interested to see the phone myself and the specs are looking pretty strong ( close to pixel 4 ) aside from the camera maybe ?

if you think about it, btc is already below 10k now, whats your take on it ?

This sounds great.
I even missed "prototype" and almost asked how much the phone is worth. It sounds really interesting.
I wonder how quick users will be able to switch between Android and Blockchain mode. I think this should be taken into consideration to make it easy to use and probably have many people using it.

Bookmarked this thread.

Pre-orders are expected to open somewhere during Q4 2019. PundiX is planning to launch 5000 phones at first, each priced $599.
In f(x) OS, users are able to switch seamlessly between two modes. The blockchain mode allows a user to be connected to the blockchain - everything which you do in this mode like texting, calling, taking photos, browsing, etc. will be transmitted via the blockchain. In the traditional mode, it is like any other Android phone. Toggling between modes is as easy as swiping left and right on the screen. There are zero switch and lag times between blockchain and traditional modes.
