Title: There is a better alternative to Bitcoin and why not use it?
Post by: Dmitri Pavarov on December 14, 2019, 11:30:03 AM
DigiByte!

I'm not hyping this one. And I love Bitcoin (actually i have stacks of it). I am on the verge of looking something useful. Creating a FUD or Hyping does not help me grow my knowledge.

I newly discover crypto this year. As my 1 month of stay here in bitcointalk and crypto space and evaluated top 100 crypto who stayed for almost long enough in the hundreths and did an ample experience to them. (bought them and used them) I do see a lot of coins with potential and some other use cases but for currency it's undoubtedly Bitcoin. Now, I'm even confused. There is a bright future for DigiByte out there as a currency use and for people who had crypto that stayed long enough in the crypto space and bitcointalk, I only thought of them making a fortune in it (not really thinking about the future of blockchain tech). Digibyte has very secure and strong foundation in it's community. Scalability, fees and scarcity is no issue there. They also have a decentralized broker where you can make a transaction of an investment with direct profits into your wallet.

Now my question is; Any of you here really see what is good in DigiByte? I would love to hear any replies. This is an educational question for me as I have seen what is the real use case of a cryptocurrency and I found out in BTC and DGB as a leading candidates for Global use as a currency. I also want to hear the negative side of digibyte as a currency, maybe because I'm pre-occupied or clouded at the moment of this coin with great potential in my opinion.

I mean no harm of doing this. Since this is a Bitcoin forum talk.

Digibyte is nowhere near to Bitcoin. If you compared the tech aspect of Bitcoin with Ethereum or EOS then I would have certainly agreed with you. It is a new kid on the block and has a controversial past. A lot has to be done by the team to project themselves as one of the contenders to challenge Bitcoin.

Technically EOS is far better than Bitcoin and Ethereum with a lot of practical usages. Ethereum is if they shift to POS next year would be a challenge for EOS.

I'm afraid this simply isn't true. If Bitcoin prices were for some reason to fall and collapse as of today, the entire market of altcoins like digibyte will go collapse as well. If you check the market caps, you would see that when Bitcoin thrives, the majority of altcoins thrive, and vice-versa.
Digibyte has a big community behind it and receives good development but Bitcoin is the foundation upon which other cryptocurrencies were built, if the foundation crumbles, it all falls down.

And it's about where you can make a lot of money, and that is bitcoin. And it has alot of enigma behind it, Satoshi and some drama behind it.

Yes, Digibyte or any other altcoins there are far better that bitcoin, speed wise, security and scalability. However, most of altcoins are simply being used for pump and dump scheme.

Digitbyte is not decentralized as Bitcoin.
Digitbyte has an owner, have you ever thought about it? Jared Tate.

Digibyte is only faster because it has a 15 second blocktime (instead of 10minuted), which bitcoin decentralized community decided is not good for bitcoin, but Jared think it js.
It is faster also because nobody uses their Network, so it is not congestioned.

Security is crappy also, because it uses pow and bitocin hashing power is much much bigger. This coin could be 51% easily. Bitcoin is resistant against a continental attack, because you need a continental energy to 51% it.

So all in all, if you are only worried about scalability, use visa.

never heard about this Digibyte. Well, crypto community is in no mood of declaring strong altcoins like ethereum better then bitcoin and here we have a thread in wh Digibyte is declared better then bitcoin. I am totally ruling out this possibility.

Why do you even compare DigiByte to bitcoin? like there is no reason to compare the new to reputable one. But I can see the future of DigiByte, I just  don't like how the founder, Jared Tate, handles the aggression with the market calling out so many names and the result? they got delisted on Poloniex, such a shame on founder like him.

Technically EOS is far better than Bitcoin and Ethereum with a lot of practical usages. Ethereum is if they shift to POS next year would be a challenge for EOS.
I have to agree with this, EOS is way far better from bitcoin but you can't blame on people what they are going to use. People are just being practical on using crypto, the reputable ones gather the most usage.

Hello
Honestly I don't think one altcoins could get really close with competing with bitcoins , yes it might be as good as bitcoins or no but one should understand that everything you see out there has been created on the concept of bitcoins and also at the same time , people prefer bitcoins because there are more people and companies willing to accept it , there is more practical usage of bitcoins as compared to anything else.
Also it's the most dominant coin out there so chances of it going in profit is more than any other

When it comes to topics like this, the answer always is : If you think xyz currency is better than Bitcoin then use it. Don't create a FUD or propaganda around it. You need the community's support to take the coin to the next level and without the support, your coin is going nowhere. No one forced people to use bitcoin, they just did because it is a standard now.

I definitely agree with you, most of the time we are using what we have been comfortable at and how we feel secure, so it is really don't matter whether there is as good as Bitcoin, we already know it, as there is ETH and XRP which we know that they are more faster in terms of transactions rather than in Bitcoin.

It's not about being comfortable. It's about choosing a stable coin that has mass adaption and wide community support. There are better coins, yes, do they have a future? No. Their development has stopped, market value is dropped and the community has moved on. However, the bitcoin community seems to grow faster on a daily basis when the development is still slow and transactions are still expensive.

Actually it's not about which Cryptocurrency is better. It's obvious that many Cryptocurrencies came after bitcoin which knew what problems it was facing and they obviously tried to solve that problem but this doesn't means people would start using that currency. Bitcoin is popular because it was the first currency in this market. Now obviously with time people could shift them to other platforms but don't expect it to happen over night.

For me, bitcoin was unique when it comes to technology also when you created something like bitcoin this is not automatically you could copy the success like what happened in bitcoin,
But it could happen sometimes like what happened to some of the famous alternative tokens examples Ethreum, we could see the success of this token in the market but still cannot replace bitcoin.

This kind of topic is actually very subjective to answer.  If someone thinks that this cryptocurrency is better that bitcoin for him, it doesn't mean that everyone can see it also that way. It still depends on each everyone's experience on that coin.
Personally, Bitcoin is still the best for me so far. I'm not saying other crypto is not but I'm just satisfied with bitcoin.

There are altcoins that have better features, such as transaction fees, transaction speeds, etc.

However Bitcoin is the face of cryptocurrency and has the advantage of being the first and most well known.

If we are talking about which one better based on the technologies and features it implemented it will be endless. today we got this much scalability the next 6 months we got a new one and if we always move to the newest with obviously better features it will create unnecessary problem. whether you like it or not people will always stick to bitcoin simply because it's already trusted and reliable. no one's going to move to another crypto just because they got much features which usually ended up as nothing more than a gimmick.

When someone think of cryptocurrency then only one thing comes to mind, that is Bitcoin. It was the first adopted currency and no alt can beat that.
Digibyte is not completely decentralized, everyone knows its owner and until they are there, its nowhere near to Bitcoin.

when wondering if a crypto is truly useful. you have to ask the real question

how many retailers/stores/shops can i use the currency in
after all if you cant buy anything useful with it. its not a useful currency

most cryptos have no retail use. and are just used as a transfer mechanism/payment tool' to move value from one currency to another.

yes profits can be bade on currency exchange. but thats not a true currencies base purpose.
if your only concern is profits then your looking at an 'investment' and not a 'useful currency'

many things can claim to have great transaction speeds. but if you cant buy a pizza with it. it doesnt matter how fast you can make a transaction if no pizza i going to be delivered.
so a useful crypto has to have a base purpose of an actual function. and not just be a ponzi scheme of investment with no purpose holding the value

a $1k gold coin is not worth $1k purely because its worth $1k. its because its unlikely you will get another coin for less by mining it or buying it. it also has a purpose of being able to be passed around hand to hand and can be melted down and sold to make electronic based products as its a good conductor

of gold could be mined for $1 and didnt have a use in electronics or jewellery. then it would not hold out at $1k. the price would tank

Quite true, the prestige of being the first and simply the Father of all cryptocurrency. But aside from that the overwhelming support of the masses. There are several copycats of bitcoin, but the name bitcoin speaks for itself, it is unique and catchy plus it is the original coin made by Satoshi Nakamoto, thus very popular.

I think Digibyte is good but I don't think that it is in a level where it can be an alternative to bitcoin. Digibyte is still developing coin and I've seen some posts here before that recommend people that they should invest in this coin or it is a coin that must be considered for the future.

It may still need to prove and improve it's performance if its want to be near to be called as bitcoin. Bitcoin been having all it's ups and down and still able to survive and use by many unlike altcoins that is hard to monitor or to keep since when once it's down it usually just fall depending on what kind of alt and development the team provides.

For sure that there will be a few projects that will have great advantage and will be more good compare to Bitcoin, but people prefer Bitcoin because it already proven everything and that we are already confident and convenient to use and to invest on it, also people would love to see Bitcoin in another bull run so they are waiting for this perfect moment again.

Correct, there are a lot of alternative cryptocurrencies out there that may compete to Bitcoin but bitcoin will remain standing as a great digital currency among others. Digibyte? I dont think so. There are a lot of altcoins that next to bitcoin why we should choose this unknown altcoin just to replace Bitcoin's greatness. Even Ethereum that almost surpass Bitcoin but in the end, it ends up nothing and bitcoin remained that has a massive adoption and already on the mainstream.

Do you guys get paid for doing this? I have seen a lot of similar posts and most of them are in fact newbie, newly created accounts. True, bitcoin can not be used for day to day regular transaction and there are better alternatives for that use case, but digicoin isn't the one!

I don't know much about DigiByte, but what I can say is that Bitcoin with all its technology like LN and coming smart contracts eventually will be the perfect combination for both a store-of-value solution & currency & functionality for different industries. And I wouldn't say that scarcity is a problem, but an advantage. We don't need inflation and governments pumping up paper on the money machines like crazy. We need a decentralized solution like Bitcoin. Again Idk much about DigiByte but they need to come with something revolutionary to even challenge Bitcoin.

Yea, people are not buying it no matter how OP hype that coin the difference is clearly seen already. Bitcoin is the father of all cryptocurrency and most people are using it for trading and investment asset. Bitcoin is a decentralized cryptocurrency. This should OP has to hype and not the other one which is not that common to most people or investors.

In short people will not choose DB over Bitcoin because it's an altcoin. Altcoins have their pros and cons just like BItcoin but Bitcoin has the name and some real use cases. It's already hard to implement blockchain transactions into a company. Why would anyone who spends money to make everyone ready to take bitcoin payments change their plans and waste all the money saying nope, now we're going to take some altcoin that nobody is holding.

How many random people have Bitcoin? 1%? How about DB? 0.01%? What are your chances as a business owner that somebody comes to the store and chooses a DB payment?

Now my question is; Any of you here really see what is good in DigiByte? I would love to hear any replies. This is an educational question for me as I have seen what is the real use case of a cryptocurrency and I found out in BTC and DGB as a leading candidates for Global use as a currency. I also want to hear the negative side of digibyte as a currency, maybe because I'm pre-occupied or clouded at the moment of this coin with great potential in my opinion.

I mean no harm of doing this. Since this is a Bitcoin forum talk.

I don't think you really understand the reasons why Bitcoin is always  considered the number one cryptocurrency. Bitcoin introduced blockchain technology and blockchain technology is the building block of all cryptocurrencies in the entire crypto space. In as much that a new crypto coin presents a good solution to a particular problem in the crypto ecosystem,  it adapts blockchain technology  in building its own blockchain network. Once blockchain technology is used, Bitcoin has an influence on that particular crypto coin.

I have heard about DGB before, it is good in terms of security and transaction speed. But what makes DGB stronger when even projects that are much faster (investigate Nano's (http://nano.org) speed) and safer than that are looking from the back rows? While the price of thousands of altcoins depends on BTC, do not compare such weaker altcoins with BTC.

Ever since I have known  Digibyte, I do not see it as a coin that is in any way a treat or competitor to bitcoin. Whoever says otherwise, is only deceiving himself or trying to get something out , far from the reality. It should be compared with other altcoins, which to me, it is much better and direct.

You don't know how true that is, brother.

There are lots of coins on the market that work better than bitcoin does, but the fact is that none of them are being used for financial transactions, ie, the buying and selling of things.  They're just used for trading or holding, so speed and cost of transactions just isn't a concern to the people owning them.  Same thing with bitcoin.

So if digibyte has so much to offer that's better than bitcoin, the market will vote on that.  So far it's voted that bitcoin is better.

You need more time to know about coins and the status of bitcoin. I've noticed DGB even before the bull run and thought of it to be a great coin. I'm not into technical so it's a plus points for you that you've been considering it but in terms of market ability, I've seen it to become stagnant.
Before and after the bull run, I didn't see anything interesting to it anymore. I admire that it's a good altcoin base on your assumptions but if it's about the profitability and proof, bitcoin takes the lead no matter what point you see.

You opened your thread positively although you should understand bitcoin isn't like your average cryptocurrency, it has been tested over time and has proven itself to be very reliable, dependable and profitable. Concerning your title, judging from the current type of coins in the space, i don't think there's any alternative to bitcoin that can complete and probably replace it in regards to it been used.

The coin you're highlighting isn't worthy of been categories as an alternative, we have coins like Litecoin that is very similar to bitcoin but still can't be classified as an alternative due to it's inferiority to bitcoin.

I know the name digibyte since they first appeared. And until now I have not yet found out more about this DGB. In my opinion, to say 'better alternative to bitcoin' is something that requires a meaningful detailed explanation. So if we say digibyte better than bitcoin, even if it's only an alternative, it's still not possible. Because all the factors that refer to 'better' are inherent in bitcoin. Therefore, although there are many coins that are better, faster, but can not release the title 'better' on bitcoin because bitcoin has stuck to the hearts and minds of its fans or community. This is the point, great technology is not enough if the community does not support.

I guess there are people who are using Digibyte as there are also people using Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Ripple, Litecoin, and so many other altcoins. But you cannot blame the rest of the cryptocurrency community if they prefer to use Bitcoin over the altcoins. It is natural that people will use what is being widely used. Bitcoin is much more accepted compared to the DGB or even ETH. And Bitcoin is more trusted. There are even people who do not care at all to altcoins.

DGB was always designed to be a niche coin for gamers, IIRC?

So in that regard alone I don't think that it even qualifies to be a competitor to bitcoin, because their aims are simply completely different. If you are talking about technology then there are probably a bunch of coins that have better tech in terms of smart contracts and stuff that have been around for a while now, that are way better on that front than BTC.

But that's not the reason why BTC is still so popular and dominant. It's because of its first mover advantage and the fact that a lot of the functionality is unneeded in alts, and that BTC offers the most stability and liquidity as a currency.

People are creating topic like this every week. The simple truth why there are so many hype around bitcoin - it was first. A lot of people think that this is the only one true crypto currency. This is not about tech, this is about status

Yeah you can make huge profits on bitcoin, but the main reason for me is the use case scenario which is being able to pay less than 10 mins bitcoin has to offer.

Jared tate is the founder of DGB not owner. "Security is crappy" so far in my 2 days of experience it is quite secured IMO.

There are altcoins that have better features, such as transaction fees, transaction speeds, etc.

However Bitcoin is the face of cryptocurrency and has the advantage of being the first and most well known.

I feel the same way, in terms of popularity and first to be on space it has gained respect but that doesn't mean we will stick to it as it has some obvious problems. I'm concerned about micropayments from a daily basis and bitcoin just left me thinking to an alternative which i suddenly educate myself what really will a tech has to offer in those problems.

I thanked everyone for participating. I guess majority in the crypto space are still in the 'Gain Game' not until it is regulated by government. So far I love the feedbacks and learn something a lot from it. Have a nice day everyone!

Bitcoin even doesn't have real use for now but it still hold its position not just because of convenient to use, investors trusting its potential level and complete decentralization but other coins may not be same as bitcoin.

The main reason I use Bitcoin more is that there’s more people using it and I doubt it’s going to be replaced by any other coin, much less DGB. I do not doubt the capabilities of other cryptocurrencies, but that's the truth; Bitcoin is still the best.

What exchanges are you talking about? The decentralized broker? I do think every cryptocurrency has potential growth and but not everyone accepts it though, unlike BTC.

Are you suggesting Holding it as well?

It’s hard to say why people don’t use alternative.I use ETH,LTC,XRP for payment.First i see the trx fee and trx confirmation time.Sometimes I use LTC,ETH and XRP to low trx fee and less confirmation time. I didn’t use digibyte but I use alternative crypto. Maybe most of the people use bitcoin because bitcoin is popular, most trusted and becoming trend.

What happens is that most of us do not even know the core use of bitcoin beyond using it as a means of payment, buying to hodl for the time of boom and a tool of making big return overnight. Less than 0.1% of people holding bitcoin do not know the core use of bitcoin.

Can't ignore many things from bitcoin, DGB is just less popular to me.

I have no doubts about the scaling ability of the DGB chain, even though the accessing system is still weak. I want to know Op's comment when this coin was delisted from Poloniex just because of silly reasons, Jared Tate seems to have difficulty in doing wider branding.

I've been hearing about Digibyte here and there actually. Well, what I've been hearing nowadays was not because how good DigiByte is, but might be because the problem created by the Founder days ago, which is Jared Tate.

Well, if we're talking about other cryptocurrency other than bitcoin that has a faster transaction speeds or any other features, you'd find tons of them, to be honest. But they're still not on the same level as bitcoin. So you could use the alt you prefered, than making a fuss and making other coin/alts looks bad than the others even though that's not your intention.

More people will be using it eventually (In this case it's Digibyte) when it's proven how well it performed.

Everyone of us have it own opinion regarding any altcoins in the market and any alternative to bitcoin is good yes, however if we think how popular bitcoin is how safe it is and ehat kind of technology does it have all altcoins still be worthless. I habe high hopes before in other altcoins to overperform bitcoin but it doesn't happen because bitcoin is still the king of cryptocurrency.

No harm on us because Digibyte is actually a good coin to invest I used to invest a lot on it when they are just starting out and how I regret dumping it in 201, this coin has a good chance to recover, they have a very active developers andf community back then i just have no news anymore how good is the community now compared back then.

I think alternative should be out side crypto market, if only another coin let me remain you all coin depend bitcoin movement. We can try built blog/ web, on line shop use bitcoin as alternative payment or freelancer with crypto payment. I'm sorry if my opinion look's bad but like I said alternative should out side the primary not inside.

There are dozens of altcoins on the market that are better than bitcoin. But, look at bitcoin, it still looks like it has never tired of ruling the crypto world. Each stone in the market seated in its place, if you try to change their places, the market will completely be disintegrated. There is no need to talk so much, look at digibyte's and bitcoin's rank at the market.

To be honest I prefer NEM, XRP or LTC as an alternative to bitcoin. The reason is because of their positive development in terms of developing their projects and socializing more often about what they are planning for now and in the future. That makes me have a positive view of them, because we need clear information about that.

digibyte, or maybe new coins or other new tokens that have new ideas or innovations that look better than bitcoin, will be hype when the bitcoin market is just falling. later when the bitcoin market returns, the coins will disappear. The incident keeps repeating because new coins are difficult to be consistent.

the founder is almost the same as the owner in cryptocurrency because they decide the direction of the project development and the image of the project itself(a few days ago jared tate said something controversial to tron community, do you think it will not bring any negative impact to digibyte?). about security, he was referring to sybil attack. you can not experience it without someone attacking it.

I don't know about digibyte and I don't think that this is the best possible alternative for Bitcoins. There are lots of establsihed and promising coins in market right that could possibly be the next big thing but still no coin can dethrone the king, bitcoin will be bitcoin.

Basically, a lot of new coins appear and claim that the technology is better than Bitcoin, which actually makes it look like crap. If they want to show the quality does not have to drop rivals, just show the strengths and the market public will judge it. In fact, although many new coins have emerged, Bitcoin remains a priority, its position as "the first" and dominating cryptocurrency is almost difficult to replace. If you like bitcoin, then use it well, if not then leave and use another altcoin that suits you, let's use this good opportunity as best we can, don't be too fanatical. All coins or tokens must have advantages and disadvantages, the movements also vary. So our job is to find the best opportunity from that to get profits.

With all these coming, and existing why majority is still coming back to bitcoin? It is because not everything were perfect surely such alts have fulfilled bitcoin's shortcoming but sill they have as well shortcoming too. So it is just that alts are produced to fill a certain purpose while bitcoin handles it generally.

whether any coin can become better than bitcoin, we will find out only after some years(5-10). now the market is too unstable and anything can happen with bitcoin as well as with altcoins.

There are lots of different altcoins being compared to Bitcoin but nothing can beat Bitcoin. Btc has passed all the tests of time and it has been through a lot. It has reached a lot of achievements and it has built a strong foundation. If there will be another alternative, I will still choose it because it has gained the trust of most users.

it's completely wrong there is no any alternative for Bitcoin and none of the cryptocurrencies will match the effect what Bitcoin produces to this market and this world.
value of Bitcoin and volume is biggest chamber for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency can reach that level now.
Maybe if centralised market make some bugs and do some manipulation in the market means in future we can expect that value.

The first coin that I can say as an alternative coin to bitcoin is litecoin only. The reason is simple, there is halving event for litecoin who similar with bitcoin. Do you know if there is a coim who has halving event?

Not really interested in a new coin that has no use and has to be promote as comparison to btc like digibyte. I don't want to underestimate digibyte but if I were the one to choose one alternative coin, I'd rather choose ethereum. It has potential use and ability with great platforms that is has been using until now.

I dont think they can't even match on eth users and possibly on bitcoin. Im having hard time on btc scaling but still the best to use among all the crypto.

I have heard digibyte but I’m not use to have this coin ever since I’m here in crypto. Until this time I can’t see being alternative to bitcoin. With so many altcoins existing in the market bitcoin is still on top through this time. So I have btc in my wallet which I really hold.
