Title: Cryptocurrency fraud and scams
Post by: EmmaTalks on March 20, 2020, 07:08:03 AM
how they happen and how you need to pay attention to safeguard yourself against them.
The Computer Science saw a different phase when cryptography mechanism was introduced with Bitcoin. With this big of a change, threats of fraud increased, to safeguard from these malicious activity is extremely important. Startups without blockchain should not be trusted at all. Before committing to any company, their credentials should be reviewed.
There are many fake ICOs that can scam people easily. The best way is to do research before being affiliated to that exchange. Another way is to send an email and ask about the exchange to be cautious. Phishing is another way to scam people, by asking their details and asking them to invest their Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. Fake Airdrops and Punycode are most common tricks.
There are many unregulated brokers that can lure clients in lower prices and trading products and fast returns. So, one needs to be vigilant. The automated trading systems are not scams but  they will take any opportunity to earn profits. Exchanges will charge an unfair amount to withdraw, the best way to avoid is to already be aware of exchanges price differences.
Fake emails look so authentic but at the end they are still fake. Check every bit of information before acting upon it. Many companies copy and paste some other company’s whitepaper, rather than having an original idea of their own.
Most exchanges use fake information for their team members. To be careful one must look for incomplete or inconsistent information and odd details.Inconsistent texts or details on any part of the website is also a red flag. One should read and proofread to be sure.
People should run scans to look for any Bitcoin miner or bot in the system. Companies will do anything for money, to ensure safety and security right websites should be used. There is a lot of responsibility one needs to practice in order to be careful.

yeah very important for people to identify all this fake project and scam platform, most platform that will encourage people to invest for the sake of helping them to do trading are not always genuine, good thing that i don't pay attention to such platform, it is best to stay away from them,
if you don't trust any new project enough to invest, then buy already existing coin in the market, we have enough good ones out there to chose from, cmc can also help in that aspect.

Caution is most important and if you don't have any kind of idea and information about something then it is better to stay away from it because of these individuals they surely know what they are doing, prevention is still better in this kind of situation being an individual that doesn't have knowledge with this kind of fraud needs to equip themselves with some information in the past and share what they experience so it will not happen again.

We have an army of scam busters who are creating accusation threads every time they see scam to be projects. Often times they do have evidences of scam from whitepaper plagiarism to fame team members. There are still new scam these days which they normally look legit but in the end its a scam. Projects like the ones doing IEO on exchanges but after it, they will eventually delist the token.

The examples you described are real and sort of dangerous. But I also think that they are quite famous and easy to spot. The things that are less popular or easy to spot but do exist are the following:
SIM swapping (famous but hard to confront)
QR-code generator scam (hard to confront if you are used to QR-codes)
Malware that changes the address you have copied and pastes a different one that has the first three characters that are the same with the original one (not talked about enough and tricky if you aren't used to checking the pasted address properly).

If there was no outbreak of corona virus, would this project have ever started, did the idea of this project come in synchrony with this deadly pandemic, all this thoughts is enough to conclude that it's another scam attempt, a very foolish one at that, decentralization in cryptocurrency has made many people come up with the unthinkable.
Would you still invest in these types of projects?
It may sound impossible, but many people still will.

This, perhaps wins the competition for greedy cunts taking advantage of a dire situation that is crippling the whole world right now. This is what's wrong with people nowadays: they'd try to make money off of literally everything and lost their sensitive and humane sides. Projects like this should be ignored, and should they get something out of the pockets of the general public, the ones in-charge should be reported for profiteering and scheming.

Serioualy, though, the whole cryptocurrency scene is plagued with scams and schemes that only loves to take people's money. Exercising caution against these type of projects ensure that you will not be duped by these nefarious beings.

Generally speaking, I think research can help but not totally because some scam project can hide things you will never see.
I just believe in some red lights like unsecured website, mistakes here and there on the thread or white paper, alsovif my mind doesn't approve of it.

Ghad! I hate to read this unappealing kind of paragraph that looks like an article but anyway, since your point is to kinda like secure ourselves of how to avoid such fraud and scams. There are tons of precautionary guide all over the internet you just have to know how to search a common phrase and done. Once you own a cryptocurrency you will need to know about of how you are going to avoid/notice such scams and fraud. By constant research and reading you will know more about of how the cryptocurrency works.

You have the advantage if you have the knowledge.

Think of it that way.

I also hate that, sometimes fraudsters so neatly hide their lies. So I prefer to discuss with friends who are more experienced to check the authenticity of the project from the seriousness of web management, team structure, and the project of course. Well, even though the project initially looked promising and attracted market interest, it could have ended the drama, for example, bcnex, it was annoying right? One of the things that we can strengthen is to be prepared to face all risks after making various analysis efforts. Scams target us.

You can lose both cash and money on the card, scammers are everywhere.

Absolutely! In crypto, scammers are everywhere and I have never seen a sector that gas more scammers than crypto industry! Crypto and HYIP have the most scammer ratio, that's why everybody should be aware and earn knowledge on how to detect scammers! Crypto card means fraud or scam, I have seen many projects came with the same crypto cash, card idea, but they all failed or scammed! Pundix FX is doing well though but they have still many issues!

You can also read a good article about corona virus related scams.

National Cyber Security Alliance Encourages Vigilance Against Coronavirus Scams, Best Cybersecurity Practices for Remote Workers

Quote
NCSA offers these tips to avoid being a victim of these scams:

- Don’t reveal personal or financial information in an email, and do not respond to email solicitations for this information. This includes following links sent in email.

- Pay attention to the website’s URL. Malicious websites may look identical to a legitimate site, but the URL may use a variation in spelling or a different domain (e.g., .com versus .net).

- If you are unsure whether an email request is legitimate, try to verify it by contacting the company directly. Contact the company using information provided on an account statement, not information provided in an email. Check out the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) to learn about known phishing attacks and/or report phishing.

- Keep a clean machine. Keep all software on internet-connected devices – including PCs, smartphones and tablets – up to date to reduce risk of infection from malware.

- Additionally, as more employees are working from home due to the coronavirus outbreak, NCSA urges companies to establish security policies and guidelines for remote workers and train them on these policies and the company’s expectations. Companies should also have a clear process for reporting any IT issues for remote workers so they know who to turn to for support.

NCSA recommends the following tips for employees working remotely on how they can stay safe online when using company devices:

- Connect to a secure network and use a company-issued Virtual Private Network to access any work accounts. Home routers should be updated to the most current software and secured with a lengthy, unique passphrase. Employees should not be connecting to public WiFi to access work accounts unless using a VPN.

- Separate your network so your company devices are on their own WiFi network, and your personal devices are on their own.

- Keep devices with you at all times or stored in a secure location when not in use. Set auto log-out if you walk away from your computer and forget to log out.

- Limit access to the device you use for work. Only the approved user should use the device (family and friends should not use a work-issued device)

- Regardless of where you are, NCSA urges all internet users to stay safer and more secure online by updating software on all devices (including antivirus and firewalls) backing up data, enabling multi-factor authentication and having strong, lengthy passphrases for each online account.

So better be very vigilant and in order not to be a victim here, we need to equip ourselves with the knowledge and understanding how cyber criminals attack.

Surface research like looking only at the ratings of a project in a certain site won't really tell you the truth behind a legitimate project. I had stumbled upon sites before like ICOBench wherein you can see the ICOs current status as well as any relevant information pertaining the project itself. Some project ratings felt a bit off and at that moment I think that the ratings could be a paid review, like those shady activities are quite common, right? This led me to not trust ratings anymore as well as those passing KYC test at some sites.

It is really important to all of us to identify scammed projects and links, there are so many scammers and hackers in this virtual world, in fact, they can easily get your account if it is not secured and if you are not using a strong password, for us to secure our account on the scammers and hackers, always be wise, do not open unsecured links and advertisement because most of the hackers techniques is using that thing to hack your account.

Always do a research about any websites that you are going to log in, read some reviews about it, and if you see positive reviews then I think that is enough to try that website.

Lol where you said that people should send emails to ask questions about the exchange? Seriously, why should you even be sending an email to ask them about their exchange ? You know for sure that even ask scammers about their fake exchange they are never going to tell you that it’s a fake, they will keep on pretending and acting like it’s real to convince you.

The best thing is never to talk to them, so that they won’t have your email. Only their site is enough to figure out if they are scammers. Check for their team and then trace them to their social media, especially LinkedIn to figure out if they are really what they are claiming to be. Sometimes they use pictures that belongs to other people and pretend to be those people, so you have got to be very careful.

Every of your points is straightforward and can't be really understood by any newbie.
There's no need to run scans on bitcoin miners because are either scam and will always turn out to be scam even if they pay some people.
Also, exchanges charging it's users high/low fees is not a problem here. It's part of the agreement and there are ways to check even before you sign up for the exchange.

Research isn't everything, and even if one isn't a fraud or a scam and is a legitimate project, one's own judgment is really important. You aren't participating in projects just for the sake of participating in them, but rather for a return of investment you've made in the beginning. Hence, any project whether it be a legitimate or a fraud, one needs to understand the core concept and see if it is viable and would the market be willing to accept them. Frauds are hard to spot yes, but projects that could bring about profits are much harder.

Asking a project/exchange whether they are a scam or not is legit a stupid thing to do. It's not your first day on the net, why bother doing such a thing? The only person you could trust here would probably be yourself since any info on the net could actually be fake for all you know.

Trust me some of them have actually gone pass just airdrops and giveaways these days. I remember one project that hit this industry last year. I mean everybody was looking forward to the success of this project, it had a working product with real world companies and yet still exited as a scam in the long run. This project was called MiracleTele.

We just need to make sure beyond any tinge of doubt that a project is a good one and that can only be done if you do a good research about it. don't fall for quick gain route, they are likely to lead you to a huge loss.

You're correct fellas, there are many scammers out there to scam gullible in investors of their money. In the beginning was the scammers and these scammers where prepared to scam people out of their funds inrespective of their status or genders. The problem we have these days is: lack of interest to read published articles from those who have experienced the same. Many investors are too dump that they cannot research into a project they intended invest in because of self lack of reading. Reading culture should be imbibe into our general  life to be able withstand these scammers.

The lack of interest in reading and analyzing projects to be followed is indeed the reason that new investors are easily trapped by fraudulent projects. Even though there has been a special thread that specifically discusses projects for scammers and fraud.
Nowadays, fraudulent projects are scattered that harm many people, education about how to find out about fraud projects and how to avoid them is very much needed.
if needed and if you can be able to do your own research about the project you want to follow, there are many ways that can be done and can read it in this forum.

Frauds and scams are not just in cryptocurrencies but in every sector of the society , even Fiat and cards call people Everytime and it gets Preety bad.
You know there are full companies , who are registered , what they actually do is scam people over the mobile for the whole day , this is more prominent in the developing nations because people there are trying to figure out a way to get out the bad Economy .
Cryptocurrencies are no different , since there is no centralized body and the bad marketing like *it will make you rich in no time * people don't understand that *you should be careful with the things that are too good to be true*

Fraudsters always try to do everything, make fake projects with all kinds of manipulations. New investors, or people who don't care about the ecosystem, and are only profit-oriented, will definitely ignore the analysis, even though it's one of the things that must be done before deciding to invest. Lack of understanding of risks like this, lack of awareness, lack of willingness to read and explore the project will make the risk of loss even greater.

It is the reason why people should make time and effort learning various information because fraudsters can easily find a new way when someone has busted their system. We should be aware, so we know the things that we have to consider before making any decisions that may affect our funds, such as investing in new projects. We have to ensure that the project isn't a scam by making a background research.

Fraud and scam will always happen, not just in cryptocurrency, but it will happen in the other industry. The scammers will do anything to trick their target until they can get their money, and that is our job to be careful and always search for more information about the offers. If we cannot find more about the news, then we don't have to do anything because if we follow the news, we will lose the money we have.

We know that many ICO has been scam their investor, and they are running with the investor's money. People cannot do anything except regret what they did before. So we need to be careful before we do something, and make sure we can check the project before we participate as the investor or participants.

Fraud is not only limited to the advent of blockchain, but online scammers also use more of the traditional system to steal. We have just a small fraction of persons carrying out fraud in cryptocurrency as compared to card fraud and Ponzi schemes using fiat. However, anyone who follows the basic blockchain rules will be wiser than an average investor.

Solicitation with false promises in order to increase profits in a fast way that causes us to question its credibility, because caution must be taken, caution must be exercised in coding, especially exchange, and thus we believe ourselves against fraud and fraud.

with technological advances that occur are many who misuse the technology to seek profits for a moment in order to generate profits. many ways are now circulating from the bonus given when investing which sometimes makes no sense, but instead many are deceived because they do not want to do the analysis first. have not been asked to send some eth by exchanging with their tokens, even though it has not been proven that the tokens that are exchanged can later have a stock market. most often telegram transactions that are very intense leads to fraud.
Fraud seems inevitable if there is no cooperation from all to break this link. should have the authority to immediately close before developing more.

Today there are still a lot of scams happened in the world of cryptocurrency because most of the time it does not require kyc for the transferring of funds so it cannot make easier to trace out the recipient of the transaction. Still, one of the good things we need to do is make a lot of research about they introduce next is if you don't want to make any communication to strangers it is better if you block them immediately because they will really push you to do something and getting pressure easily. Still, it depends on you if you will entertain them and just get more information and waste their time to pretending you are doing the things they told or just block them immediately.

A friend told me she was into this online investing platform which turned out to be coin-bits and that it was going very well for her and she was making returns from it and I thought I could try it out as well. Turns out we were both caught up in a web of deceit, they gave us only a little percentage of our investment the first month of investing and demanded that we invested more to generate higher returns and improve our withdrawing power which we did because it seemed legit as a result of the first month payout we received. It was all down-hill from that point onwards, they made us invest more for a couple of months and at some point we had to put together funds to link our portfolios so we can make a one-time withdrawal but we were never given a chance at withdrawal.

My search for recovery brought me to stumble on an article on SEC that read thus;

“Not all harmed investors will be able to recover money, and many of those who recover money receive less, often substantially less, than their losses from the securities fraud”. They wrote In addition, that “even when harmed investors are able to recover money, the process for distributing the money to harmed investors may take a long time” and this was even more discouraging. But right under the article was a review that countered this approach and made several reassuring statements about FASTFUNDSRECOVERY.WORDPRESS.COM and their ability to do better than most.

When I made contact, they came up with a tailor-made solution where they focused on my specific circumstance before working out the best and most cost-effective way of helping me achieve my aims. My friend Laura followed suite immediately and she too was able to access all her funds sitting idle in a wallet.

The Crypto investment industry is gripped with scammers, starting with the brokers and ending with individual traders. In other words, as a trader, you’re on your own. There is little trust in the industry and if you still want to be involved, you must do the job, filtering the information in front of view.

You can lose both cash and money on the card, scammers are everywhere.
I completely agree with OP and you,
So in order to avoid being scammed we need to do some research and be cautious not just in crypto but also in real life.
Both online and offline aren't safe to fraud and scams and it is true scammers are everywhere not just on cryptocurrency.
Before the creation of crypto currency scams and fraud are already around us so we couldn't really say that it is because of crypto or the internet.

Scammers are everywhere and we don't know when and where they will strike. I think the idea of scammers that makes them this kind of act is all about their facing. Their life and sometimes or even mostly, the attitude of being a greedy one. Scammers will definitely experienced or collide by everyone mostly to those people online. Today, a lot of scammers use online platform to do their job because in online they can hack or hide their identity to those person who doesn't jave enough idea. They can manipulate people by making them spin throught their heads. We can be aware of this kind of act or people but be sure we have enough idea and different king of strategy once we are experiencing it. Online make it possible for them but we can also use online to take them down.
with technological advances that occur are many who misuse the technology to seek profits for a moment in order to generate profits. many ways are now circulating from the bonus given when investing which sometimes makes no sense, but instead many are deceived because they do not want to do the analysis first. have not been asked to send some eth by exchanging with their tokens, even though it has not been proven that the tokens that are exchanged can later have a stock market. most often telegram transactions that are very intense leads to fraud.
Fraud seems inevitable if there is no cooperation from all to break this link. should have the authority to immediately close before developing more.

Advance technology will make us to be aware of this scammers evweywhere yet this advance tech also give them new ideas to plan out. I once experienced being scam a large amount of money and in that situation I felt so bad yet I learned from that situation and remembers to always be aware of people, sites and even campaigns.

Despite amoung us being aware of the "send xx amount, receive xx profit", there are still a lot of newbies that's being scammed by this scheme. They really don't research about it or even think of it how the hell they'll earn real money that quickly.

That is a fraud scenario that is very easy to understand. Unfortunately, newbies who always want to profit quickly, ignore that fact. The cryptocurrency market is very volatile, after all who really dares to guarantee prices will rise? and you entrust your funds to people you don't know on the internet? it's a very fatal mistake.

Remember, never invest in a business that you cannot understand

Fraud and scam when your assets of cryptocurrency have been in lower price, but when bitcoin and altcoin exist and stable on higher price no one brave to say bitcoin and cryotocurrency fraud and scam. Just happen when getting not good position with bitcoin and altcoin price to know which one is the best.

They fall on this obvious trap because they are thinking that they really can get profit from it. For those who have not learned their lesson well with these scams, they will always think to get easy money. There are so many scams out there in many forms, yet, there are people who still fall as victims because of greed. That's the main reason why people can be deceived by these fraudulent high paying investments. The thought of earning money without so much effort put into it.

Scammers are everywhere but their presence in the crypto community is enormous. They easily scammed innocent users that have no experience by creating unnecessary token without any use cases and a solid team to develop what was stated in the whitepaper. Always do thorough research and check if the team has domain experience in the subject matter.

how they happen and how you need to pay attention to safeguard yourself against them.

Scams and frauds that relates to cryptocurrency usage is not already a new issue at this point of time because it is already happening ever since the cryptocurrency existence have started. Scammers are really out everywhere that it seems no one should easily be trusted without doing further researching about anything related to cryptocurrency in order to secure your safety and the security of your cryptocurrencies. Nowadays, it is best to always do seek information about that thing you wish to get engage with before deciding to get in so that you will better know that you are getting into a safe path on your cryptocurrency journey. People will do anything out of obtaining money so doing precautionary measures is in need specially at times like this that we are on a crisis.

If you will be thinking of it, it is also our fault when we are scammed or hacked. It's been years since I invested in bitcoins and other crypto currencies and I am only scammed twice and not been hacked. If we will be falling to the ploys of scammers and hackers, they would continue to do their thing so as long as there are victims there will always be those suspects. What I am saying here is that we should be wary of these scammers and hackers.

Greed always takes over when we're dealing with money. Even you or me, would sometimes have a second thought on whether we engage into a certain investments that looks like a good opportunity (different from too good too be true investment scams). That's the reality of every investment, scams are always there, your knowledge, experience, and know how will save you from becoming a victim.
What we need to feed our thoughts, is not to become desperate in needs. Desperation will sometimes lead us to a bad situation.

Hello everybody. Fraud has existed since the time the first living organism appeared on earth, Man just put it on a new, more perverse level. There are enough scammers everywhere - and in the cryptocurrency community this is enough. For this, there are such forums as this one that would study this issue and not fall for the tricks of scoundrels. First of all, of course, under any circumstances, you must be careful. Times have gone such that even a relative can act with you no better than any fraudster, and here people manage to invest money in projects, some of which are clearly fraudulent. I do not think that it is worth separating the concepts of a cryptocurrency fraudster and a fraudster in everyday life - everywhere they act with one purpose, to take possession of our money. Only our own stupidity and thirst for easy money allows fraudsters to eat their bread. You just need to remind yourself and your children more often that easy money does not exist. You have to pay for any gift in this life.

Since we are using the internet, I bet we are all aware of the existence of fraud and scams. Even outside the digital world, there's a lot of opportunists out there, trying to deceive people. It only makes it easier to scam people using the internet because they can easily escape and hide their identities.

It's not our fault if we get scammed, but we also have responsibility for it. It's a lesson that we should all know that we can't trust everything we see on the internet. And that, research can help us decide whether to trust somebody or not. We can't remove all scammers here, in fact, the more we become dependent on the internet, the more scammers will use this platform to deceive people. We should be prepared and aware of the possibilities might happen once we invest here in crypto.

If there is such a large "army" of scammers, why not create an "army" that will fight them. This must be centralized, otherwise we may lose the cryptocurrency. :-\

The question is who? anyone can create fake identity on internet so it's hard to trace them up unless if they show their real identity but i doubt there are scammers who do this since it's big wrong move for them if they choose to do this, and I think its impossible to make all centralized since this is not how crypto works so maybe the best thing we can do is to avoid what possible scam offered to us.

Scam is everywhere. God thanx now you've got a chance to read info, feedback from real people on the Internet, ask advice etc. MAKE YOUR OWN RESEARCH!

It's everywhere and it exist because of greed that's why we need to be vigilant always on what we do since the scammers will attack us if they see us falling on their traps.

Instead of "creating an army that will fight against them", why not just create or build your knowledge so that you will be able to avoid and prevent yourself from being a victim of scams. As long as there are victims, there will always be a lot of people that would try to scam people.

Are you talking about IEO or ICO? IEO are the ones that start directly on the exchange, but ICO can be started on the Ethereum Blockchain by just anyone and there is no one to check whether they are a scam or not, except for you who is investing it. As an investor, any project you develop interest in, you should do your best in looking further into it and picking everything to know whether it's a scam or not. You don't just start investing your money straight up without getting to know about the project, it's very bad.

There are things you should look into, it's no longer something new and has been discussed here a lot of times. But, people are falling to such scams due to lack of awareness or due to ignorance. But, when we keep on spreading out awareness across this forum then there possibilities for more people to escape :D.

your information about scam are so simple and not complete. if u tell a scamer these words they will use *10 and prove it to you on many ways that they are telling trues about project .and u cant even realize that. and eventually u will invest with them at the end .most of them are just marketers (strong marketers)

Agree with you since there are platforms who are good with introduction and strong marketing which makes the newbies fall in the trap, But their are actually signs that we can determine if the platform is good to go and mostly the one offers a big percentage of profit by investing at them will somehow a big red flag unto us so better we should be more observant as well careful on the things we are going to.

Scam and frauds have existed before and will continue to exist in the future. Fiat money has been used for such illegal purposes for years. No government was able to regulate scam so that it would be out of existence. What has changed when phenomenon of cryptocurrency happened and bitcoin became a better alternative to fiat? Nothing has changed, it is still impossible to regulate anything. The notion that cryptocurrency is bad because it is being used in scam is just justification. If it weren't real money, it wouldn't be so attractive for scammers to steal it.

Fraud are everywhere, in a market like crypto where its less regulated, you can expect a lot of scammers that are just watching us looking to take the right opportunity to implement their fake or fraudulent activity.

You know what is needed for this? It's simple, we need to be educated and we can do that by educating ourselves.
Think about this, if some people succeed in crypto, that means it's not possible to succeed despite of the fact that we are in a high risk market.

Accept the status of the market now and play it wise,

Lastly, "DON'T COMPLAIN"... (you are here because you took the risk) deal with it.

Scam projects are everywhere nowadays from fake exchanges, free giveaways, impersonation and phishing e-mails or websites. Stay away from these type of ponzi scheme projects
Many can't spot them especially when you are a newbie in cryptocurrency

Exactly, scam attempts are everywhere and you can't escape them. But we have to be aware of that and always think how to protect us and that scamers always come to new and more sophisticated methods how to scam people.
Education and awareness are the only solution for scams because we can't stop there, scams have always been there where money is, that is how it works.

Jamesdila1 newbies are usually victims, but what they should do is to read before they start investing. First
learning then making profit, not other way around. Usually people come here on forum after they lost money.
Bitbunnny you are right, only thing that can save us from being scammed is education and awareness. We can't
get rid of them, scams and frauds are here to stay, what we can do about it is to protect ourselves, and to try
to warn others if we see something suspicious.

at the beginning of 2020 many new projects had begun with movements that were very positive compared to the past few years. it's just unfortunate that the corona pandemic was quite disturbing when it started to improve, so many new projects had to turn around so that the project could go ahead because investors held back because of the pandemic.
but it is very sure that this year is the year of the rise of a good and very reliable new project, hopefully the pandemic can pass quickly and the new project returns to cheer.

There's fraud in every system, not just cryptocurrency, fiat as well, that proves healthiness of the system, true is that scammers won't stay in an unhealthy system as they stand to gain nothing

Frauds and scams are not a problem of just cryptocurrencies, there are many more fraudulent activities run with fiat money.
So be aware of that and don't pass the message that Bitcoin users are all scammers and thieves, while on the contrary there are many criminal activities performed on traditional markets.

they are still a problem  . this isnt only for you or for us , we can say its not really a problem because we arent got scamed yet or rarely got scammed but scamers  can victimized new people every single day  . if we total what is lost , that still alot of money  . this also give a bad impression to some newbies that are going to enter on crypto world  even if they are aware that scamming is normal and also happen on traditional market  because cryptos arent really that normal since it was only on its digital form

so before a newbie start investing in crypto, he should know what crypto is all about and not driven by greed by thinking that he will get good profit.. a lot of projects attracting investors with high returns victimized newbies most. why?
because they are attracted by what is offered to them and they dont know how to spot a scam at a glance. so those scammers capitalize the attention from newcomers. good thing, a lot of users here in the forum are doing their work of exposing those potential scam projects. just head up to the scam accusations board to know some of them.

We do really need to read up everything first before throwing up some cash into the air or supporting some project. We know on how ICO investments turns out to be a shit nowadays and lots of them had already been exposed to be a scam thats why its really hard for current projects to succeed on getting a funding because people arent already that confident because of past experiences back in the years.
Frauds and scams would continue to exist because we are on a market that do involves money and its no surprise that there are criminal minded people will surely take advantage to those people
who dont know much in terms of investment and would really be get victimized if they do let their greed control them.People do only learn when they do commit mistake thats why sometimes i do just let
people that i do know to discover anything along the way.

By the name newbie he doesn't know on what's legit and what is not since the only thing they know is they can earn with the platform they are going since they see some people earning and the one who refers him the platforms shows that they are getting benefited from their investments. newbie should know anything who claim to earn passive big incomes daily are scam since there's no platform can do that. And its really good thing for experience people to show on what are scam platforms here since it can save the newbies time and money to know on what things to avoid.

Fraud are everywhere, in a market like crypto where its less regulated, you can expect a lot of scammers that are just watching us looking to take the right opportunity to implement their fake or fraudulent activity.
---
This is the first rule we must understand. Investors, traders, bounties or airdrop hunters, are the target of fraudsters, when we decide to get involved in the world of crypto, we must be prepared to face all the risks. The crypto world does offer freedom, privacy and confidentiality, which is why we are fully responsible for every action we take. So before deciding to get involved, make sure we understand this ecosystem, all of our risks bear it.

---
By the name newbie he doesn't know on what's legit and what is not since the only thing they know is they can earn with the platform they are going since they see some people earning and the one who refers him the platforms shows that they are getting benefited from their investments. newbie should know anything who claim to earn passive big incomes daily are scam since there's no platform can do that. When we are carried away by the flow and talk of people, we will easily be trapped in risk. It was the newbie's biggest mistake, being drawn to the world of crypto because of seeing the success of others, trying the same path but not having the ability to adapt. Often newbies want instant profits, thus ignoring the process, which is why they can only complain and blame others when caught in a scam.

In fact, fraud and scams appear everywhere. The most important thing is that you should always be careful before any investment decision. Be careful with projects committed to high profits, 20% / month or more because most of them are scam projects. You should also be careful with phishing websites, requesting to send your private key or wallet wallet file. Finally, find out carefully what you will do and be careful before all your decisions.

Same old same old. Wherever there is something to gain, there is bound to be scams. And the only difference you will be able to find will be the way they do it. Although there are minor differences in risk factors, everyone should always exercise caution. Because frauds already started long before we can even imagine. Easy way to be safer is to choose where you are comfortable, or learn as much as you can so you can be comfortable wherever you want and have as many options as possible.

yeah very important for people to identify all this fake project and scam platform, most platform that will encourage people to invest for the sake of helping them to do trading are not always genuine, good thing that i don't pay attention to such platform, it is best to stay away from them,
if you don't trust any new project enough to invest, then buy already existing coin in the market, we have enough good ones out there to chose from, cmc can also help in that aspect.

I agree with you, cryptocurrency sector is a decentralized market where everyone ought to be responsible for his/her own security and decisions and that is why everyone has to be vigilant with the sort of platform and projects they get involved with as there won't any much of a solution if they get scammed. Since the ends of ICOs, i kind of prefer to invest in already established coins because they usually stood the test of time and do always rise again after each downtrends but that can not be said for many start up projects out there

You can lose both cash and money on the card, scammers are everywhere.
Yes it doesn't matter what you hold there are scammers in both real world and in the internet or crypto.
Scammers would use any type of money even if it's crypto or it's Fiat so it doesn't matter what you are using.
You just need to be wise and don't be so greedy to avoid being scammed by those kind of people.
Scam and fraud has been around even before Fiat is born so why would we even focus on crypto fraud and scam?

how they happen and how you need to pay attention to safeguard yourself against them.

This is absolutely right. Too much scammers and fraudulent people involves in bitcoin. Awareness is also important. I also agree with you about the company and ICO review. These days you can't suddenly trust an ICO because they are giving high and lots of rewards. Also avoid suspicious email links that makes you click and phishing websites that stole your private keys and other important info. This will help a lot of members here in bitcoin forum.

Why would you invest in a coin that's called COVID-19 anyway? That's just an insult towards everyone who is infected and died because of it. It's not a great name for a coin. Unless the proceeds of it go to the patients but I think it's highly unlikely to happen in these times. That's a smart move of you to not invest any more in ICO. Focus on Bitcoin instead and maybe trading?

I didn't read the whole post of the OP as it is like a huge wall of text coming into my eyes and that hurts me a lot. OP at least make some double spaces between your post to make it clean. Anyway I will just give mine base on the subject.

Frauds and scams are very popular already with crypto. From Bitconnect scam to Centra scam to different exchanges being hacked or scammed. I saw so many hacks and scams happened in crypto world already in the past 3 years and I already have a basis whether a coin is a scam or not. New projects right now are the highest chances of it being a scam because scammers want to scam newbie investors and they can do it thru launching a scam project. Either way, just be knowledgeable and do some research before investing on different coins or projects.

It is not a way to become rich quickly but we want to get rich anyway.

You can get free money as long as you are putting something in exchange of it. For example, freelancing won't ask money from you as long as you will be doing what you are asked or ordered to. It is true that there are a lot of scams but that falls in our hands if we will be letting ourselves fall for those. That is why we should learn to keep ourselves safe from scams and hacks.

Since 2018 until now the percentage of cryptocurrency scams has increased, this has made the popularity of cryptocurrency decrease.
But it does not make cryptocurrency lose new investors, because cryptocurrency is profitable if we can choose potential coins. Therefore
we must be able to avoid cryptocurrency scams, it is indeed not easy. But if we can do good research and analysis, it's easy enough to
avoid cryptocurrency scams.

That is why we really need experience in this cryptocurrency ecosystem. Ecosystems that are still "young" and have the potential to expand more broadly, making it easier for fraudsters to trap new investors. Especially newbies who are interested in crypto just because they want to get instant profits, so they take all the means to join without considering the risks and without analyzing. It was a fatal mistake. When they are trapped and lost, they say that crypto or bitcoin is a scam. Even though it was their own fault because they were too greedy.

A person in their right mind won't invest their time or money in such a project, you are sure to loose your money by buying such coin.
People loose their money here because they try too hard to make a huge profit and in that process they buy the wrong coin or many a times they invest in a HYIP which makes them loose money.

The pandemic prevents ICO creators and pseudo developers from spending a lot of investors money on useless conferences and meet-ups. Despite the fact that pandemic itself is not a good thing,  it is a positive factor when we talk about ICO and its cunning CEOs. They should focus on development and creating mvp instead. It still can be done even with small investments without involving additional funds from public. They don't need ICO to start their development. When pandemic is over, it will be easier for users to choose in which projects they want to invest. They are rather going to choose those ones that were active and evolving during pandemic.

I think this is one of the points of improvements for bitcoins and cryptocurrency. The security and the purpose of the bitcoins to avoid using these for illegal activities that could do harm to others. Aside from the possibility of being frauded, I’ve read somewhere that many pedophiles from across the globe use these to buy pornographic movies. These movies star a minor, a little girl, sometimes a little boy and would feature inhumane activities. Sometimes, they trade human inner organs and pay using these as well. I think as users of this, as we promote that this could be the future, I think we should keep in mind that this we have responsibilities when handling these.

Knowledge is power.
When we already have a basic knowledge, plus experience, then we will not be easily trapped in a fraud scenario. At this stage, we will not be easily provoked with big reward bait in a short time. Nothing is instant, everything requires a process. Moreover, there is a promise that will get xxx% profit in just a few weeks. How dare they provide such guarantees when the crypto market is very dynamic.
Well, to get the position as you feel it would require a lot of effort and time. It was truly very valuable experience.

Reading is the key. Start with this simple thing so you don't easily get caught up in fraud.

Being in the forum automatically introduces some of the risks. First we got that risk of having our identities taken by someone in the forum DEPENDING on how well we hide our identity. The Cryptocurrency industry is not full of fraud and scams because some people are making their profits from it. That is actually good because if we can look for ways to do that too, then we can profit from it too. We just always need to consider the risk whenever we join a project and make sure that we are ready to face those risks.

Fraud and scammers are everywhere. There are also many scams in Cryptocurrencies. They provide many bonuses and make people greedy, raising some funds, and then fled. A lot of community here to prevent scam but they can not stop it fully. There are also many projects that never have a realistic future plan and hardworking team. As a result, they lose the value of their currency when it comes to the market, which causes financial loss to investors and makes people feel cheated. Therefore, before investing in ICO, one should know all the information about the project and invest in the project. As a result, The projects involved in fraud will not be able to collect assets and ICO will not come in the market with such projects.

need cooperation and foresight in today's disclosure with the growing number of scam projects. now seems to have become a trend to do fraud projects by giving large bonuses but the value obtained is far from expected, and even more ridiculous is to disappear and not be responsible.
this must be stopped immediately because it will impact many investors who are afraid to put their funds into a new project.
cooperation and mutual information are needed so that the behavior of people who want to cheat can be stopped and not given an opportunity so that they finally deterrent.

This is something that's being talked about everywhere, there are lots of articles that talk about this. Anyone who does research before proceeding to do anything would hardly for these scammers. Just like me, before I do anything I don't fail to do my research.

I search on Google and read lots of articles and learn anything that I'm supposed to learn about it. As of now, most of the times when I see scam projects I don't need anyone to tell me that they are scammers. I can easily tell when it's a scam, it's become a normal thing now. No matter how much they try to cover up, there is always one or two things that are unrealistic and show them off as a scam. An original will always be original.
Reading helps a lot to explore and find which project really worth and which is fraud and scam. There are lot of fraud than the legit, just beware. Even for the coin itself, it is not trusted which the not good to remember and many are suffering from it. There are some that using it for their own benefits so better to be wise where to invest.

Back in (2019) I had made an investment with Amega,Plus500,OMCmarkets, FXcryptoclub,Kontofx, Goldcfd & HotForex which was introduced to me by a friend who had invested and made solid returns from them without withdrawing profits. We were a chain of huge investors who only wanted to make enough to suit out lifestyles. I requested a withdrawal and I was denied. I became very worried and asked the rest of the people in the chain to do same. Little did we know that we had been played. We invested ( 6,070,000 Euro ) collectively. I had to seek help from a top International wealth recovery expert when i googled his name "fastfundsrecovery" with a track record of such capacity to recover investments such as this. We all got (92%) of our investments back collectively. Please keep away from these companies as the experience with them was downright distasteful!! They do not even reply emails anymore.

When it comes to investment then you should really be aware on how do things work neither you are considering to throw up some money here on crypto or even on traditional business. Scams does exist not only here but also in the other side.As long it do involves money then scammers or criminal minds would really find out ways on how they would really take advantage to those people who do lack knowledge for them to get money via
frauds or scams which is somewhat really rampant here in crypto where it do particularly talks about ICO and other ways of fooling out people towards investment.

Everyone just needs to use common sense when it comes to scams.  Realize that a large portion of the cryptocurrency industry is a scam.  If it's too good to be true it is, period.  Looking back and learning from mistakes such as those who bought in to bitconnect...looks what they were offering, %..wise.  It was realistic. Use these same principles and visit the scam section of bitcointalk often.

Cryptocurrency is always associated with fraud, because a lot of fraud occurs by people who are not responsible in the world of
cryptocurrency. Especially ICO projects are almost 95% scams, it can also be done by small exchanges owners by making fake
volumes for attract investors to buy shitcoins. There are so many deceptive practices in the cryptocurrency world, so be careful
when trading or investment. Do research and analysis before making a decision.

This should be obvious for so many people in this forum because scams have been doing the same formulaic and routine way to attract gullible people, back then it is not the people who has the problem but now, I think the people is the problem, they all believe this frauds based on data that were given to them, no research and common sense, always wishful thinking.

Unfortunately many people ignore logic because they want instant and many benefits.  This syndrome often attacks the newbie.  They come to the world of crypto because they are interested in the huge benefits offered.  The fact is that big profits are not obtained instantly, there is a learning process, there is an adaptation process that must be passed so that it gets the right strategy.  Sometimes, they are only ready to profit, but not ready to lose.  When they are trapped by losses, which are caused by their own negligence, they say out loud: crypto scam.  I'm sometimes fed up, but can't do much.  We should always remind ourselves to never invest in a business you cannot understand.

They are choosing cryptocurrency because they can anonymize themselves but in fact, they can't. They just thought they are undetected but tracing transactions with bitcoin and altcoin through blockchain will make them vulnerable but most of the time, when people got scammed, they report it but most of the time, they just do nothing. But with the knowledge of the transaction tracing and having a deeper knowledge about block explorer, they might find the culprit.

It's very rare to talk about the types of scam before what happens to hacked Twitter accounts. Building a simple domain leads to major attacks. As the user enter the site, his data will be log to the system and can be use by the web owner to infiltrate the emails associated to bank or wallet accounts. As it may seem legit at first, most website store data on plain text, allowing them to easily see the credentials. If someone has use this password for other his other accounts, then he might get infiltrated. Cryptos are made for anonymous transactions but that doesn't mean, they can't be traced. A PayPal transaction is already a rich way to track someone. A browser's user agent, ip, navigator, and specially timestamps had help the authorities to detect fraudulent activities. Doubler are the same method except all the deposited money will be redirected to the owner which is bad.

Hackers don't choose they always targeted where money is residing, the only safe haven to anyone is to be alarmed and
have good securities for their assets and identities.

Because there are still a lot of victims even though by means of fraud that is old school, this happens because users are not so alert and easily trust others. Even though the crypto industry is anonymous.

Imagine seeing this so-called Project Covid-19 Crypto Coin (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5232528.0)

Do you think it's legitimate? Would you still invest in these types of projects?

In my thinking This project is fully scam because they used a pendamic name to make this project viral and newbies will invest and at last they will be no where.

So it's very important to make a awareness thread in this forum. Am I right?

If you know how scamming works and how these scammers work, it is not actually a problem. That is why it is necessary to be careful when it comes to projects and ploys that might be a scam.

It is true though that they will never stop. As long as they have those victims to scam, they will continue to develop new ways to scam.

From personal experience, I can say that it is becoming more and more difficult to identify fraudsters in advance and protect themselves from them. Even the most seemingly reliable companies disappeared at one moment with millions of investors.
I think we should introduce financial literacy related to cryptocurrencies. Perhaps we should start introducing educational courses or seminars more often to educate and protect those who have just started to build their careers in the field of cryptocurrency.
Perhaps it is time to change the concept of approach and build a real new network (IDYlliUM /Multiversum) that brings together proven and reliable partners with whom it would be safe to build a business.

Nothing is perfect in this world and deception will always be wherever we are, it all depends on being careful and searching for the truth before taking any action.
what we know so far in a project or ICO many end up with losses due to penipun, and all that without analyzing and studying it well before participating and there is also because of greed because it was promised with huge profits and many other reasons and most of them are beginners .
I noticed a trend that the larger the pool of a project, the more likely it is to be a Scam. People are lured by beautiful numbers, and in the end do not pay anything at all. I decided to participate in projects with average payouts, but with a greater guarantee that they will be.

In some extent you are partially right because I noticed that some websites carries wrong information's and such websites that carries such wrong information's is designed for negative purpose.

Its obvious that before we invest in such platform we have to carry out some investigations or observation to verify if the platforms is created because of investment or scam. Its very easy for someone to be scam if the person lacks
a reliable information concerning the platform.

Hi. I don't advise you to get involved with any kind of fraudulent schemes, you can certainly make money, but the risks may not justify themselves. I don't have my personal experience, but I have the experience of several of my acquaintances, as you might guess, a sad experience, and I prefer to learn from other people's mistakes :) good luck!

Exactly. Those shared experiences that actually happens to some individuals here serves as cautions or preventions to us who were just new in this Blockchain Industry. Its been hard for us to discern which is legit or scam projects but somehow through those shared informations we are being warned and getting aware through all these frauds along the way in Crypto world.

I really like your information.  The information is very effective and timely.  At the present time Bitcoin forums are filled with bad guys everywhere, they are turning to cheat you all the time.  So we should all be careful, know well about any ICO before working on it.  Bounty Hunters should do a good deal of research on an ICO before being admitted, such as reading their white papers and visiting their websites.  They should work on understanding how loyal they are.

The most important thing is about self-awareness to remain careful to make any transaction, because investment is also part of a transaction that must be full of consideration. We cannot just blame or complain about the development of existing technology, because the development itself is certain to happen from time to time and with that too, at least investors and people in this circle must be able to adjust to be able to make a profit, of course in a way that be more critical in doing a research in order to avoid a fraud.

informed by who ? you dont need to wat for someone to informed you that its a scam before you can react that its a scam and you avoid it .  you can get informed if you have concerned friends that have knowledge on this field or if your actively visiting forums and sites to gather infos but what if not ? your the only one that can inform your self then .

learning is part of observation,.
