If I have the same mindset as the owner of these files, I'll just create the same thing, from creating files with wallet.dat file type and upload on some online shop and create noise in any crypto community forum regarding the .dat files and let anyone buy the damn thing. And anyone can do the same.

It does not necessarily have to have a balance at the present time but rather has a record of currencies in the past, for example, if you are lucky you can get a lot of altcoins, some hard forks, and other free gifts.
Also, guessing the password will not be that difficult if the wallet is empty.
Generally, it's gambling to get something that might not happen so I don't recommend it.

It's very difficult to crack because wallet owners have tried everything but they couldn't. Everything has exceptions, a few people will take risks to make a large amount of money, so they will buy it.

I guess this topic must be most suitable under gambling boards because I am sure many people must be interested to crack pass phrase of wallet file or finding addys with balances at least on these pandemic times. When people are bored out of lockdown and isolation reasons, if they come to know about this, probably they may stop their dicing and may spend some time on finding addys with balances from that site.

I first came know about this on the times of clam coins were announced and people have gone crazy about finding BTC addys even with zero balances. OP sounds like the owner of allprivatekeys.com and it seems they are trying to drive traffic out of this discussion. It seems already this topic might have done enough promotion for them.

They are too much concerned about having more such locked wallet files but I am sure that more people here are not stupid enough to forget password of their hard earned money. There could be only early adopters who got bitcoins either from CPU mining or for less than a dollar might have stored bitcoins without more interest and might have lost their password as well. So, I guess it would be too difficult for people to have such wallet files with forgotten password to exchange with OP.

What is the point of this collection of wallets if there is no single registry of verified dictionaries.

Are you sure, how the owner of wallets will provide relevant information when they are not completely giving up from recovering the balances of such wallet? I mean when they reach a level where they are ready to give up then you can assume there cannot be any relevant information is possible. If there are only part of password is missing then probably they may try by their own combination and will never go for asking help from others like how we do see here on this forum people do ask about forgotten password of their wallet file.

I'm always looking for a way to get Bitcoins for free for my own personal profit.  And at first glance this sounds like an interesting idea, with a small chance of success.  And I'd like to think it could work, but knowing there are people out there even more unethical than me, especially foreigners, and I don't feel confident about this idea as a result.

Its hard to deal a thing like this because it was just a simple file and I think there is no way to check if the file is legit or not if not by trying to crack it first but why not pay later ? but it's also hard to give trust to a stranger online . I once tried using the file tool to modify the public key (that is, the address) and put it back into the bitcoincore client, and the software indicated that the wallet file was corrupted. It seems that it is not easy to modify.

Yes, wallets with 150, 99, 78, 70, and 57 BTC are suspicious and moved to a special table with fix price.
I faced various fake files of 150 and 78 like watch-only, and HEX edited too. Files with Password: "12aVP18cd5XsbcGQy8u6eywQ6UuA6Q319s" are fake.

On my site - AllPrivateKeys, original files only. I check, synchronize, and do screenshots before publishing for sale.
Also, I give a replacement or a full refund till two days if something wrong.

With some luck and skills, you may recover lost passwords and would be able to access the coins. The power GPU farm is good but not enough. I know persons who recover lost passwords using a laptop. Don't forget about luck, skills, and hints for passwords mask.

PS: Beware of scams on forums and just registered sites!
Rare files can't cost cheap. Scammers always sell cheap. They need money here and now, then they run to "sell" to others, and drop contacts with you forever. You are not interesting anymore.

All wallet passwords are supposed to be long or very complex to build. As far as I know, only one wallet with more than 30 bitcoins was opened.

Yes this is true statement if you talk about Bitcoin in 2020, in 20k price range.  All of the wallets (most of them anyway) are from 2010-sh period when BTC was at $200 , password standards were a bit easier 10 yrs ago as compute power potential was a LOT less than today, so considering all this, I'm really surprised that besides all those fake wallets, non of the real ones were actually cracked.

I would really want to know if someone with a mining farm actually tested with hashcat,and if there would be any results post them here.

It is not necessary to exchange wallets, but to exchange information about the dictionaries with which these wallets have already been verified.

To be fair we should think about trust only when we'll get to the point of actual transfer BTC out of cracked wallet.
For now, to start cracking i need only wallet hashes which doesn't reveal any private keys.

At the moment it seems that I am going for a 5 word experiment and the number of possible variations = 7737809375.
It can also be seen that there are only 2 days 11 hours left.
The 1,2,3,4 word option had already been tested and it wasn’t that hard.
If the password is not 5 words, I will continue to look for the 6,7,8,9,10 ... character options.
Since it would be hard enough with 2GPU there I will already be using a 40 X RTX3090 GPU.
I think in about a couple of weeks you will have quite a bit of BTC and the rest of the altcoin.

I suggest you use more than 11 passwords to crack the password, most of the wallet files in this post were exchanged to me, at least in the past 3 years or more, the low number of passwords should have been tried, no sense.

I was following this topic for a while and decided now to jump in.
I don't know if I am allowed to post link here so I will provide it through private messaging.

I am sitting here on an old wallet.dat with 50 BTC.
After reading all the comments in this thread I decided to set up a solution to share wallet hashes (not the wallet file).
This solution also splits the brute force tasks among a hashcat connected network of computers.

The only knowledge required is to be able to install python (as well as 2 extensions) to run the client.
It downloads by itself the necessary files (hashcat, the hash files and, if necessary the dictionary files) and share online the resources with the others.

For me the wallet is lost, so if peoples are interest to jump in, they only need to contact me and I'll configure them an account to share the resources.

If we are able to find the password, I will share the 50BTC to all involved participants.

Hey, it's definitely bad idea to share resources with someone you don't trust.
A better idea might be to share dictionaries and open private (known to specific people) hashcat brain server to the internet.
It will reject password candidates based on attack type and it's position. Of course one who attempt to guess a password should not send password hashes to the brain server, but only attack positions (--brain-client-features=2) otherwise network bandwidth and brain server resources will become a bottleneck.
I don't know if there are some kind of vulnerabilities in brain server, and if it's secure to open it to the internet, but it may be a solution to distributing the cracking power.

I'm interested in contributing in such process, so PMs are welcome :) by the way of making this happen we could learn to work with each other and build a trust.

Well, actually, only the wallet hash is shared. Correct me if I'm wrong but it can't be exploited to recreate a wallet.dat file.
Actually, I didn't configure hashcat brain. For a bruteforce attack, it is not necessary.
I don't believe brute force attacks are the way to process but let see how it goes.
Meanwhile, I'll try to configure a dictionary attack with brain and prince to check if it goes better.

It's not a problem of sharing wallet.dat hash itself, the problem is to share cracking resources with someone you don't trust.

Just a simple example:
you run an attack on some hash (no matter which type 3 or 0):
1. hashcat -m 11300 -a 0 myholywallet.hash some_dictionary.txt -r very_cool_rules.rule
2. it fails, and you decide to make another attack then another and another
3. you execute again attack #1 because you've already forgot about it
4. hashcat brain checks if it already done it in it's database, and if so - rejects all password candidates.
5. You earn the time of not doing the same work twice (or more)

I was under the impression hashcat brain was necessary to check if a hash had been already cracked. In our case, we work on a very limited number of hashes (actually, 1 ;) ). This is why I didn't see hashcat brain as a necessary. If it can help, I will still implement it on my server asap.

I am sure many peoples are in this situation (owning a wallet file without its password) and if we can build a system allowing to better/faster find those passwords it would/could be really profitable for everybody.

I tried to buy one of the cheaper, smaller balance wallet.dat files and the link didn't work.  Something went wrong with satoshidisk.

Is there anywhere else to get these?  Or just one to try out?  I mean one supposedly with a balance but needs decrypting, i.e. guessing a password.

Just a little info for people reading this thread. I'm a professional in the cyber security world although I can not say to what degree. These are crackable if you know what your doing, an I don't mean guessing a number and hoping with hashcat. Here is the issue, anyone with wallet.dat that they obtained probably can crack it there self. Let's say that the person has but does not know how to crack. Why sale when they could cut a deal with someone that could. With alot hat said will there be accounts with free coins and tokens on some of the ones "for sale" sure. Some people have realized they can sale a wallet.dat to multiple people because 99% are not gonna be able to crack it. That said if you want to try it that's fine it's your choice just go into it expecting to loose the money you spent on it. 

Why can't you say 'to what degree'?  I'm also a cyber security professional, I've been a mid-level info-sec consultant for 5 years.

My feeling is that if the wallets are genuine, you would have to be extraordinarily lucky to 'crack' them.  I agree you have to go into this expecting to lose anything spent on them.  I know that cracking these is pretty hard - I have some experience with them.  You need extraordinary compute power and time, or really good lists and rules to apply to the lists, and even more time, and therefore potentially expense.

It looks like these are scams.

It's probably possible to put any transaction history you like in there and make it look like the address associated with the wallet private key has a balance, but likely the key is fake.

Not sure about all the wallets, but at least some of those floating around have dud keys that don't unlock any Bitcoins.  Oh well.  It was worth a shot.  Trying to recover a wallet with known information that belongs to someone who can't decrypt it themselves for a share of the loot is probably a far better way to use some cracking resources.

One Wallet i Cracked.. it was 11 long, but guess what... it was Fake too, shows 2 BTC but all send attempts failed. exporting the secret leads to a empty adress.

It's a shame to hear that your work was not rewarded, but here's a 2 btc wallet (which I posted above) does not have outgoing transactions, which excludes the possibility of forgery and all information from it is easily verified

I completely agree with you that the password that I use consists of 10 characters and everyone I know has passwords of at least 10 - 12 characters

This wallets you have mentioned can be easily found on forums, and all of those specific are fake wallets created by chinese website by editing .dat files with fake hashes and fake private passwords for specific addresses with balance imported to those wallet.dat files. So its useless to waste time on them, if you need i can give those files free to anyone without need to exchange if you really want to waste your important time like i did.

When trying to open wallet.dat with this address (allegedly), Bitcoin-Qt (windows) kills itself.

I am in the process of going over about 90 wallets in total as I have got more new ones that have added to the list, I am compiling a RAR file with ones I think could be good with information that is with them for passwords (Which is more then likely bollocks) also doing individual hash files for each possible good candidate and a compiled list of possible dodgy Hashed wallets to cross reference new wallets for ease so not to waste time. Also added a folder for each one I think is good with the sync files from Bitcoin Core so it can be loaded straight up without waiting for time to sync.

13 I think could be good so far but no one knows for sure unless they can crack and send out the coin. I also have 11 more wallets to check out of the 90 I have to sort.

Taking a long time to sort but I have nothing else better to do and would be a better chance to try them instead of wasting time on 100% fake wallets.

Will update the thread with some examples of why they're blatantly fake. But I will obviously keep the ones I have sorted off the thread as a lot of work has been done with this & we all know there is leachers & scammers trying to make a buck.

I set up an hashcat network. You only need to share the hash (and not the wallet.dat) to the participating clients.
Of course, the admin have to be a person of confidence.
But, I am sure with enough peoples involved, it could be really profitable. So why stealing the others when it could be possible to hack several wallets ?

Well.. that's the problem.. nobody is trustful if its about a huge amount of coins! Even if you don't have the Wallet... its possible to get it somewhere for sure or others having it already.

But we can make a Google doc and mark all known Wallets and all unsuccessful Word list attacks if you like. so nobody makes a attack twice... idk

Well, this is why my project never really started. Everyone seems to think there is no thrustful person as soon as you talk about money... Very sad if you ask me.

You can forget traditional wordlist attack. I guess there are better chances with a normal random brute force attack. It is only a matter of luck but as soon as you enter above the 12-characters limit it is really nothing more than gambling.
This was the advantage of an hashcat network.

This is absolutely true. It is very easy to run a wordlist attack on each wallet. They have of course done that on every one of these. The one they are selling have unbreakable passwords, and even if you have a GPU farm at your disposal it is very doubtful that there even is the advertised private key contained.

I just find this web page after buying wallet that is in circulation for last 2 weeks. That refers to address 1KTvsW5tg5gkJf9fyT2xsvjkv7dzuZNTpW& - lost my 120 USD.
I also have downloaded free wallets from wallets-dat.com and wallets-dat.net that seems to be operated by the same person - I bought mine form wallets-dat.net link.

Also, I have analyzed fake wallets (posted here) with password given. Normally entering password causes bitcoin client to crash. However little changes to its source code allows me work with it and what I found interesting. You can get some private keys for just few of accounts - that are empty anyway.

However dumping private keys for accounts that are referenced as holding coins - simply have not private keys included at all - client returns error.


What I conclude from that is,  if we just had an tool that is capable to check if accounts have private keys at all defined (in encrypted format) then we can at least filter some of forged wallets.

On the other hand, forger may be able to put some rubbish as a private key. I do not know exact structure of wallet file - I just invest about 1-2h to figure out if I can extract some additional information -
maybe it is not possible to create well forged fake.

Hence forging might be done as one of 2 ways:
- Injecting fake transactions referencing to forgotten account to existing wallet.
- Injecting fake account without or broken private keys.
- Striping private keys out of wallet that literally has originally holded them.

Having that tool may save lot of time for cracking. And at least allow to figure out if it make sense to work on them.

I don't think this is a correct password hint.
If a password generation tool such as keepass is used, cracking is almost impossible.

Besides file size would you be able to differentiate the two files? What would stop someone from just renaming a file to wallet.dat  or just providing you with an old wallet without giving you without  a password.

I had two wallet.dat files 6+ years ago. One had if i remember right about 1.7BTC and other close to 6BTC. I gave that with 1.7BTC to friend but he never managed to crack the code but when he checked balance he said it was empty and as for 2nd wallet I have no idea if there is anything inside.
With the current price that BTC sells for I think I need to check my "old" usb drives.

BTW, both were downloaded many years ago ( back when BTC was going for <100USD ) from links provided in pastebin.

Ignorance mostly...  I'm certain that 99% of these types of sales are just the wallet owner wanting to make some extra money so they encrypt their wallet with a super strong password and sell it to ignorant users who think they might have stumbled on a lottery ticket.  Sort of like selling covered call options, only in this case it is impossible for the option to be exercised by the buyer.  I'd also liken it to Bitcoin mining for idiots, as solving a block is not only more likely but in most cases also more profitable.  In other words, it is how an idiot would try to "mine" Bitcoin.

How you know it? From filesize? MA in the first post marked some wallets as fake, those are not on the list. Especially 13.75BTC wallet, which apparently is something new, not mentioned before. There are outgoing transactions but not the recent ones... I do not know.

This is a scheme that's a bit similar to the lottery in that it punishes people who aren't good at math.

Obviously none of those wallets are ever going to be cracked and it's likely that the people selling them (originally) are the owners of the wallet who have encrypted it with a password longer than the private key, so any attempt to crack it is probably less likely than if you were just to try and crack any address with no wallet info whatsoever. 

A lot of people are making money off scamming newbies under the guise of offering them this opportunity to waste their computational power.

I tested some wallet.dat with Pywallet. If the wallet is real, Pywallet will generate the public key and the encrypted private key . Right?  ;D

I noticed that inside the original wallet.dat file there are addresses to which the coins were transferred, that is, all outgoing transactions are written to the wallet file.

Hey everyone. Recently I found a unique method to spot fake wallet.dat files.
Wallets can be faked at least in 2 ways.

1. By changing the iteration number of the hash itself (I'm still looking how to spot fake iterations. The probability that a wallet have fake iteration inserted in wallet hash is kind of low).
2. By changing public key with a key that has amount. (My method will spot this type of fake)

The method is entirely created and developed by me. After  months of investigation, I can spot with a precise level : 99.9% fake wallets that does not have private key, or have a wrong one mapped to public key. Unfortunately there is a very big business with fake wallet.dat, that's why I am willing to help people that are looking for forgotten password of wallet.dat. Also I would like to discuss with more wallet crackers, in order to develop cracking knowledge and share our experience.

If there have never been outgoing transactions from the wallet, then we have not found a method that will reliably determine the authenticity of the wallet.

We observed that in any wallet that had outgoing transactions there are addresses to which these outgoing transactions were made,
if there are no such addresses inside the wallet file, then the wallet is fake. When there were no outgoing transactions in the wallet,
and there are only incoming ones, then we are not yet able to recognize the authenticity of such a wallet.

There is still no proof that such wallet files are real and correspond to the indicated bitcoin addresses. Prices will also be very high to buy. With a quantum PC and a few experts you should be able to crack such wallets, it seems to me that you will then sell them, while it is worth a fortune if you know how to retrieve your password.

Are you saying that it's possible to alter a wallet.dat file to remove the private keys and it will still open in Bitcoin Core normally?
The reason I am asking is because I am currently attempting to crack some wallets and as far as I am aware, if I can open the wallet normally in Core, then it must be crack able right? or am I missing something?

In this wallet the type field is empty and the Label shows (n/a) while the incoming transactions show the address there.

You are wrong nTime parameter is the date when the wallet was encrypted for the first time. When you try to change the passphrase, nTime parameter does not change at all (I tried it on my wallets). It only changes when you have an unencrypted wallet and you decide to encrypt them. Only then does the nTime parameter change for the new date of encryption.

Please excuse me if this has been explained before-
it is my understanding that the 'wallet' is a glorified encrypted container for secret address keys that point to double- sha'ed public keys.
This can be easily understood when e.g. creating an Electrum wallet w/o encryption and looking at the json in plaintext as it contains the key-value mappings.

SO the task of 'unlocking' these wallet.dat files means to break the encryption of the wallet.dat file, NOT breaking sha256.

After doing some research lately, there is a way to be sure that a wallet is 99% legit, here are the points to check:

- there has to be no out transaction from the address that is in the wallet
- the transaction have to be 100% the same in the wallet as on the blockchain
- and the most important, after command "getaddressinfo" for a specific address in the wallet, the pubkey has to mach the address in the wallet, as the address has no out going transaction , the pubkey is not published in the blockchain, but the command will resolute a matching pubkey

Of the 58 wallet.dat I have, I'm afraid I have to count 47 as fake. A tip to all: If you are unsure if your wallet.dat wallets are real or not, then you need to follow all the mentioned tips in the thread AND additionally compare the current transactions with https://www.blockchain.com/explorer. If your Bitcoin Core has loaded all blocks, then all transactions should be displayed. If your wallet.dat still doesn't show current transactions and doesn't show the balance except for Satoshi exactly, then it is a fake. Remember this: a tampered wallet has been edited and does not update the transaction history.

If your wallet.dat you are working on does not have any current transactions, then just send 0.00000547 (minimum amount) bitcoin to the address and see if in Bitcoin Core the transaction is also displayed. If yes, then the wallet is real!

One is wallet.dat file, second was hash from bitcoin2john, third was someone sharing the password.
The wallet is fake and even knowing the password does not make any difference not knowing it, because using this password in this wallet returns an error (different than invalid password).
Wallet is prepared, text inside is telling that this is a fake wallet.

Sorry but, in my opinion, with 1,461,501,637,330,902,918,203,684,832,716,283,019,655,932,542,976 possible Bitcoin addresses, it is practically impossible (as well as unethical) to find a collision by brute-force attacking private keys, even against a file with 60,000 addresses with balance.

You know just providing my little bit of knowledge here why not compile a How-to guide on using johntheripper and hashcat on how to brute force these if they're encrypted? I have done it successfully myself but it is not something that was easy to just dig up and find the simple .md on how to lol

I know you had the password at the same time so why didn't you move them?

Also, is there a way that we all can work together and make a trustworthy system?

For example,
Each person work on 5 addresses each, and when 1 is found it is split between everyone.
Maybe use screen sharing so that the person with the password can over see where each % of the coin is going, and when they are happy they can enter the password which will send everyone a piece of the coin(s).

the password decrypts the hash but not the private keys in the wallet. This wallet is modified to extract wrong hash. The password to decrypt the private keys is different. Even if you decrypt them they may not give you that public addresses in the wallet. Someone who modified the wallet to give wrong hash may also put wrong public addresses to look the wallet is full of coins. This means that is handly crafted fake like many other wallets with given passwords on the first page.

Honestly does anyone from this forum has opened the wallet from this list and was there any coin inside???

Person A connects via TeamViewer on person B's computer with Bitcoin Core open.
He then sends X BTC to an address of his, enters the password (in visible mode) and OK.
If the password is correct, the transaction should be done.
