as a project investor you must be wiser before investing in a project and will never open your wallet for any project without thinking about it 10 times or even 20 times. At that time or precisely in 2017, almost all ICOs were seen as potentially profitable companies and people assumed that there would never be an end to the boom that occurred in the entire cryptocurrency market. And then reality struck.

the point is if you want to invest in any project, the first thing you need to do is research more about the project, then continue about what products they want to offer to the market and ensure as much as possible about them be it the developer and team background, the product , investors, project partners and the communities in it.

Don't forget about 2018 were most of the ICOs turned into a scam. Some stopped because they can't bear the bearish side of the market. And that's how they've lost a lot of investors because of those scams. I guess it's all about having the benefit of a doubt on every project that you want to invest, read a lot of what people are saying about the project especially those with good rank and unbias analysis, there are a lot of projects that buy service to hype their projects usually these are newbies and low-rank members so be aware of that and check if the project is using this kind of service.

Investors should make a great effort on researching a profitable project, they have to build a good foundation to make a wise decision. With the aim of doing that, they have to consider those things because it will guide them on avoiding the project that will exploit their lack of awareness. Yes you are right and just like 2017 the scenario will change once again and soon icos or ieos will again find the lost hype and will start to be profitable again but it will need the market to change the sentiment completely from negative to positive.

Tried everything and I've became a boring investor. I don't want to risk much but don't want to get left behind on crypto boom. For that I've selected a small number of proven coins and hold and trade them alongside of stable coins to generate a passive profit while I wait for the prices to increase. Almost 90% of ICO I encounter turns to be a failure. I've stopped bothering caring about them now.

Well in the end luck matters alot and both the team and investors luck is involved because i have seen even some good practical projects being fallen apart or failed, one example is of cobinhood exchange which was the first ever zero fee exchange, it also had a good hype and paltform was good too but somehow the internal differences of the team members resulted in the closure of the project which was like a shock to the investors who lost all their investment.

Even when the project became the most popular it still would not guarantee for investors to get a good return, several times I experienced a case like this which in the end was a deep disappointment until I decided to no longer invest in such a project. There will be no guarantee you in this market even if you get referrals from famous people, it still does not guarantee you so please consider more carefully before you invest, because when you have considered it well at least you are ready in terms of mentality and many other factors.

The wisest advice I guess is just to invest in the coins that didn't die and still on top of the market. The new project's token can be acquired if these coins really will be a good investment for you.

There are new projects that are good to promote but they rarely come these days. 2019 alone only the ones that made it hasn't yet been in the exchange even today. If you have invested in those coins, your money means they lie asleep.

Always its better to be a smart person than a wise one, yeah better avoid investing on the new project completely.

I don't find many reasons for anyone to invest on new projects which feed the scammers to come up with new projects and different project team to steal people money.But we have enough coins on the market so invest on existing coins to reduce the risks.

I have seen even wise people throwing away and losing their money in icos and that too in huge amounts, how can you forget so many projects, investing is just not that simple and there is always high risk involved when investing into icos. Just check how many projects are closed, failed or stopped by sec in last 2 years alone you will be amazed to see even very good projects there too.

So many of the ICo that seem to be successful and gave investors profits were also a scam. Which is why today, it will be hard to see any of them in existence. They already got what they wanted and left the scene, perhaps to develop another scam project again or to enjoy life in another form, because no one is able to bring them to book.
The same set of projects are also being launched these days, except very few of them that truly have something to offer.

Making an analyst first before spend money, that is the important thing to invest in new project. Here in this forum there are a lot of thread who give a guidlines how to choose a legit project and how to know the scam project. We don't know who they are and even most likely we don't even met them before, but we have a chance to believe other people opinion against the person if they are reputable person.

I think 2018 is enough to be made as an experience for us.  Don't make the scammer always be comportable to make another way to scamming people especially for those who just new. We can avoid it easily, we can pass some trick that they offer to us and we can make them tired and never try to scamming the crypto's user.

During big volatility in the market its really hard to be a wise investor. Even if you saw the market now days whales just accumulated btc price up and down. Their is also a big question on USDT because they minted a millions of usdt in a second and then suddenly burn it too. Why it's happened. They minted it and manipulate the prices and then burn it. So it's a big question on transparency and what they talking about decentralized. Looks like crypto is going centralized and only few control them.

Changes will always be felt at a time. There are so many trend on cryptocurrency like the boom of bitcoin mining, ICO sessions, selfdrop type ICO, STO, and finally IEO. Most of these types have one goal, to generate fund and make blockchain related platforms. Now 2020, we see how ICO process gone slowly and only few working on that kind now. Investors prefer IEO, and many exchanges follow that. Good thing is we still have ways to generate fund, but observed those projects from IEO, yes they rise upon trading but few weeks after that the hype is gone. So not a good way to invest on potential project with long term goal.

I have been buying before but never got the chance for real profit that I would gamble more of to buy it.
Never happened except with Bitcoin and Ethereum.

But those new ICO, the percentage of getting even just 10 percent of profit is low.

Why would a new investor take unnecessary risks? We have too coins that can't go wrong, bitcoin, BNB , ethereum, and also for those who can't hold we have IEO on top exchanges that brings profits or will surely brings profit

Taking risks is the sign of an investor. They take risks because every risk corresponds to a reward to be gained. Now in the crypto market you cannot trust any project coming up to be a successful one, heck even any new project is going to be a scam in the long/mid term. With that said older established coins are worth trading on if you have the guts to or hold for long terms gains.

It is always possible to take a calculate risk and do research on the background of the project, though it is not going to a 100% full proof method and it is more applicable for the stock market companies which are large cap ones, still it is applicable to altcoins.

I got your point but to be honest whenever i have tried to be extra cautious or smart or wise while investing i have still end up in loss i think investing does not work like this rather you have to select many projects, yes you have to try and pick the best, lets say an investor selects 10 projects to invest, 2 out of them scammed or failed, 4 are doing just normal while 4 have proven to be really good with price mooning. I hope you got the idea, it is like averaging out and if you end up in profit you are successful investor. Keep in mind you cannot win them all.

How much more can this be emphasized? Everyone is trying to understand the ico game , IEO game, what happens and it's always same cycle with majority losing funds and scammers running away with their money. No one likes that Experience and they won't it to happen to them again.

But I failed, at that time I did not do the analysis properly and just joined in. You can follow the crypto hype without risk. You have to use money that if you are ready to lose it, with a mindset like that, I'm sure your risk will decrease, or maybe you won't have any risk at all.

Ico is currently not comparable with ico in 2017, where ico was very profitable for investors and while ico is currently the opposite. the ico market has changed and project fraud is increasingly rampant, be a wise investor and not keep your money in the wrong place.

You cant gain any if you dont want to risk any too. Inevstment yield profit and loss so either of it, both needs confidence and risk for you to earn gains. Every investmeny have risk and cryptocurrency trading is more prone to unstable market as we noticed a huge drop today. Imagine the 30mins effect of bitcoin downfall that even major altcoin follows also.

1000 USD is big money for an overnight and the situation really makes some investors do panic selling again. But we can see that the market started to go back to its shape again, but the pace is much slower compared how fast its go down. Whales are really good on making manipulations that makes other becomes fearful.

Thinking for 10 times or 20 times is just a waste of time if you can't access well information. The best way to become wiser finds reliable information channels or a way to research and hammer out critical information from that project. When everything in order, you would process faster and come to conclusion if that project worth invest or not.

This market is a big market, therefore it's normal to see scammers here because of the fact that it's still not fully regulated until now.
With proper research, we have a chance to be successful investing here but don't expect you'll never lose as that is part of the game, just make sure you learn how to minimize the risk and you can do that by diversifying your investment.

what I learn here is we can never be too confident and putting everything in just one basket because in reality, the market is very unpredictable.

I consider myself wise. Because I have a team. There are 20 of us. Together we are looking for good projects. We calculate their potential. So far, we are in a good plus. We have been working for 4 years. I think wisdom is to realize that a team is needed to win.

Bittrex has a very bad ROI for its launch pad compared with other major platforms and it's not worth to take bittrex. It's better to focus on the major platform without try to consider to invest in another small platform but IEO and ICO are about to survive forever. DYOR is a must.

This is a pretty good strategy. With the team, it is easy for us to analyze, especially if everyone has different knowledge and experience, when put together it will form a strong analysis. You are very fortunate to have a trusted person who can be invited to discuss, we know that if we only rely on analysis from other people who are not known, it is very risky. In my opinion i think making a wise decision as an investor  still boils down to carrying out diligent research on a giver project.
 You have to find out information about developing team , who their partners are . Also very important you have to find out the use case of such assets. Be sure it has a tangible and an achievable use case.

I used the word 'Achievable' here because i have come across most projects with use cases that are not realistic at all . I kept wondering how the Team intended achieving that goal

 
 Please don't be deceived most times they put that in their whitepaper just to deceive vulnerable investors .  check their project road map to know if they are following it accordingly.
Although not 100% but these few investigations will help you in deciding on whether a project is worth investing or not.

Why investing on new project? If there's already exist on the market like trusted coin for a newbie you must learn the market so well just try to invest on the top 5 of the coinmarketcap while investing on it and learning step by step you will know the process and if you want to invest on new coin then you have an idea.

It's not comparable caused by when we back to the 2017 and that year could be considered as the golden year. People were very enthusiast caused by they just know about crypto.

After OP's post i will also add that not invest on hype project or that kinda project which are guaranty you for profit and show you greedy bonus. Almost every project now days choosing IEO platform so before you invest you should know about the ieo platform and project details properly. Yes. Investors in the past have already mature and become wiser today since they have previous experiences about being scammed and won't allow to happen it again. But investing in crypto market does not guarantee assurance even how much you take time researching about the project but atleast it will help somehow though you can avoid losses in most scammed projects.

If you are a project's investor, you should do your own research, deep investigation to understand what the team they have, what the product is, what is their capacity. No one but you can estimate the real value of the project. Anyway, that's the only way to make right investments and avoid waisting of time on unworthy ideas.

I think investor nowaday already smarter and wise. Sometimes people just follow the hype of a project. They dont do research beacuse of the hype and sometimes people trust on it. I think it is a common mistake for investor.

people are prone to fraud because they are tempted by high investment returns. logically crypto cannot become rich overnight. High reward offers are basic reasons that make investors interested and easily fooled ..

 cryptos like btc can make you rich overnight because it can pump faster but its only rare  .  other coins can work the same but they are verry risky   . they can pump hard or they wont at all and wont show any increase in the future   .

There are lots to learn from the users who actually invest in some bad projects and post them here. We just need to read them carefully and try not to follow their footstep. On the other hand, we can also try things that work on successful investors and we need to carefully get some idea from trusted users here, not just some random guys who posted some sales or promo saying that you can earn big if you invest in them. It is true there are many scammers and their scam projects but yet there are still very few legit projects, and the only way to differentiate them is through carrying out a good research on every project to know what the team wishes to do that will contribute to the betterment of the crypto space and the world out there. If their idea is not applicable or look unrealistic then it's better forgetting about it and focusing on other projects. The truth is, most people now finds it hard investing in new projects because of scams thus going for only developed coins; but yet there are always exemptions. Lastly I will say, if one is finding it hard knowing the right new project to invest in, it is better looking into major altcoins until the right one in their own perspective emerges, since everyone is responsible for every risk or investment they take.

Majority of the project will appear to be good even the ones that are intended to scam but there are some extra ways to filter some project base on the team, the use case of the project, the token metrics, how easy it is to exit outside and within the blockchain frame and many more. If all are put together, then there is high chance of making the right decision.

Right now, Because of people taking this time as an advantage to scam people because they are at home. I personally would not suggest people go buying around coins without knowing the whole detail. Its only up to people if they would have time to read up comments and feedbacks because there are still people who are too lazy when checking up

Crypto projects are most times unpredictable, I have seen projects that offers good services and have good background, better use case and partnerships too and the project died two years later, research is a part but won't safe your ass every time, only investing what you can afford to lose will safe you.

For this situation and if I have funds, I prefer to allocate them to trade on coins that are already listed on the exchange. maybe my outlook can change if there is a new project that holds a token sale (IEO), and even then if done in a large market.

Yes, we must always be aware on how is the Cryptocurrency Industry is moving. If we earn profit in a way of trading or investing, we need to constantly watch upcoming Alternate Coins and some that are already in the market. One good move is to spread our investments BUT there are always risk of not getting your money back and that is why you must made this decisions by yourself and be brave for any outcomes. 

If I want to invest my money, I would like to invest on a known and trusted project. If the company or platform is unknown then I will try to see its Roadmap, previous history and other investors. If it fascinates me, then I will try to see its review.  if everything will be ok then I will decide to invest there. most often I invest on known and big platform, cause if I invest a rich amount of money, IMO even if the profit is low, no risk should be taken.

and also don't forget, before investing in a project you must also be able to manage your financial management properly by not investing all your money in ICO projects. my advice to minimize losses is better to invest real with BTC, ICO project problems I don't want to say much, because most of them are scams. stay careful with that

For anyone to dream again about 2017 to make itself available for the cryptocurrency industry is arrant no. We are not going to see another resemblance of 2017 till cryptocurrency advances. Though, with the little projects available right now, anyone can make investment wisely to get some profits from their investment. Follow projects with good reputation, good review from this forum and beyond is encourage. Most importantly, team members of the projects should be checked thoroughly before make investment, some might be scammers from previous projects executed.

unfortunately many people ignore this. let alone newbies, they don't yet understand this ecosystem, so investing is only based on the desire to get rich instantly. there is a big risk, lots of fomo, scammers, etc. sometimes projects that look promising can fail, if you put eggs in one basket then when the basket falls you will lose it all. we must be really wise in investing, do an in-depth analysis, don't be influenced by unclear signals, manage your funds properly, dwyor.

Yes its important to do research before making investment in crypto, but then some scammers already know what investors look out for when doing research and try to make the project appealing in those aspects. Some even attend crypto conferences, do AMAs with popular influencers yet they have scam intentions.

DYOR is everything and that will make us can secure our money from the scammers. When investors tried to invest without trying to do research and the only chance to rely on the IEO that launched on the binance exchange site to bring them good ROI. It's more than just investing but it's also speculate about the future of project.

When you do things after researching your chance of success is much higher as anticipation

If it's IEO projects at Binance, Okex, Gate, Kucoin, then I think there's no need to evaluate them because those projects have been thoroughly tested and have gone through many rounds to be able to launch IEO.

However, if you have the time to analyze, it is still good for you because IEO still has risks and investment trend IEO has been interested by people for over a year now and I believe that if the allocation of capital is reasonable, you can earn double the profits without spending too much time.

Wow I didn't know that IEO can bring such a huge amount of profits. It's been a while since I don't get interested in ICO and IEO projects anymore. There was a time that I joined ICO and got scammed, then I don't believe in any fund-raising projects. I know that IEO is way better and safer than ICO but it's riskier than other form of investing. I think I should spend a little bit of time to explore and then decide to or not to invest in IEO.

You could have show us ways to detect scammers, your point is only about warning, anyways, newbies need to be careful about new projects, presently scam projects are lower but not entirely gone and thanks to IEO from top exchanges too

To be more secure, just choose IEO in the top exchanges such as IEO in binance, Kucoin, Bitmax and several other good exchanges, because the average IEO made in the top exchange is always experiencing success and can always be profitable for those who want to follow it.

well, not always you can really take part in such a project. On large exchanges, too many people want to participate in the IEO. IEOs appear rarely and you can wait for years for an opportunity to buy coins in some good project

This is what i keep telling my friends who are just considering getting into the investing business. Nothing's for certain but we can atleast lessen the chances of wasting our time, money and effort if we conduct the sufficient amount of research before investing in "promising" projects.

Early investors in crypto are wiser now due to experience. Most people who had experienced the boom and doom of ICO had learned their lesson and had pressed the new project to give sufficient information and proof before believing and investing in a project.  in my opinion being wise as a crypto asset  investor is very important and it has to do with such an investor looking and researching more about  any project he wants to invest in .  this will reduce the risk of  wrongly investing in a fake project . investors have to among  other factors be convinced about the potentials of any project he or she intends to invest in before sending funds.

One thing that is inevitable in life is 'change'. In the era of 2017 where even shit projects attract investors, those times are gone.  Many investors then have lost a lot of capital and many have gone out of business completely.  Nowadays, you have to look very well before you leap.  Investing now takes a lot of findings and cautions.  No matter how excellent your idea or concept on any project is, investors are just so afraid to invest.  Now it's the era of DeFi projects, all the same scammers have also entered the DeFis now.  Always remember to trade with caution!!!

I think similar to you, we passed the golden time already where a few mishaps can be fixed cause there are plenty of good opportunities and investments. But there is none cause today, the market isn't less forgiving like the old. You definitely need to smart up and wiser in today's crypto market.

Currently, we need to really do very deep research into what we are going to invest in. even if people are still doing research, it's still quite difficult to actually find a project that does development. consideration is very necessary. These days people must be aware with every part of crypto, awareness is absolutely necessary to became a smart crypto investor or trader whatever your side is. Regarding investment in any project I would just say that your first priority should be you must always rely on your own research before investing in any project and you will have to be mentally prepare for the results whether it's good or worst.

as an investor of course anyone does not want to lose or invest their money wrong. but we are in the cryptocurrency industry which is full of risks. Even if you are careless or a little wrong in placing your money it can be fatal. If you are a new investor, I would rather recommend investing in coins or projects in real use cases especially BITCOIN.

I don't think it is absolutely necessary to aim for 10 to 20 times return when investing in a project.
If a project has good potential it will reach that target automatically. We don't have to keep waiting for 10 times return.
We can invest and exit by taking 2 times the amount also then may be invest again later.
That is completely the individual's choice. But yeah investing in a good project takes a lot of time and effort since we have to do a good research these days to find a potential project.

To be a wise investor is not easy, because we must be able to control our emotions, especially the greed that often arises in us

Instead of investing in new projects, why not just invest into the projects that have been there for a long time already.

We have so many coins out there and they are there for quite some time so why bother to invest into new projects where the risk is higher than the old projects. I can't consider myself as a wise investor but for me, I'd rather invest my money into coins like Bitcoin or Ethereum or even Litecoin than the new projects.

and also we have more experience from past accident. cryptocurrency now accepted in several countries and its good for market capitalization if investors have no more uncourage about banning. while regulation already done we have more certainity about legal standing for crypto market.

This is a season many people tend to invest as the market seem bullish. But they don't consider being wise, they just see the rush and promising features and dive into it. Just like op had said, it's very important to consider your finance and be wise. To avoid getting rugged. Many eth sulkers are out there to sulk out all your eth through scam. Be very careful guys.

Personal research and/or, due diligence should never be ignored no matter the project, no matter the hype, no matter the so called experts supporting it. If we can clearly understand the Importance of studying every project before investing, then I think we will go a long way in stopping bad projects from seeing the light of exchanges. But nowadays, the reverse is the case, once hype is sensed around a project or once a crypto expert, influencer, or analysts says a project is good, most people rushes to invest without doing the right thing. Therefore, just like you pointed out, a wise investor considers many factors and make the best decision towards investing in any project.

Being wiser is not enough since there are many factors when it comes to cryptocurrencies. Although I do agree if you have a good mindset from a wise investor, you will fare much better compared to without it.

Fear of losing profit is what makes most investors rush to make an irrational decision at the wrong time, if the investor is wise and sober, he should make his decision after a long time of thinking and after seeing the advice of many experts. sure everyone shoud be careful while investing in any financial cryptotool. i always check a business background, founders, financial model and strategy of each project i invest in. as for now i'm focused on interesting defi-s and especially - dex project

Great point! Always do your own research. Jumping from trend to trend without doing such will increase massive risk. There is no such "Safe-zone" when investing. There's always a risk tailing it.

Back to topic,i do saw that you are now interested with DeFi but I would like to warn you that this one is also based up on hype even though there are projects which
are really worth for you to take risk but those criteria of yours is really a must thing to follow.

It might not really be precise because even good-looking projects turns out to be a scam in the end and the one whom you do looks like garbage is
the one who do succeed.

I don't aim for huge gains and I'm a more careful when doing research on new projects, some people want to use 100$ to get 100,000$, that's not me, here are my two advice I like sharing people who want to listen

1. Research must be done deeply before investing, make sure you are satisfied by the team blockchain experience, the project plan and roadmaps too

2. Invest very little amount of money you can afford to lose, if things do go wrong it's won't be so painful for you to forget and move on

 many of the ICo that seem to be successful and gave investors profits were also a scam. Which is why today, it will be hard to see any of them in existence. They already got what they wanted and left the scene, perhaps to develop another scam project again or to enjoy life in another form, because no one is able to bring them to book.
The same set of projects are also being launched these days, except very few of them that truly have something to offer

The majority of the new projects that arise here in this industry their period of running is very long, in which for me its very suspicious.
But if the projects campaign has already listed in the exchange, it is an advantage to get the trust of the community to invest to their coins,
