Title: What are the best features in a mobile crypto wallet?
Post by: john_cm on June 10, 2020, 03:49:58 PM
I understand that hardware wallets are the best and most secure crypto wallet out there if I am speaking correctly. However, mobile wallets are mostly used due to ease of access, free to use, portability, and some personal reasons. With a bunch of mobile wallets out there, choosing a good one is fast becoming a herculean task. In your opinion, what are the top 3 features one should be looking out for in every multi-currency mobile wallet?

Just for features, here are my basic needs.

1. QR codes - Both read and create. Send and receive, save private keys to import and address as contact.
2. Bio-metric lock - Quick with nearly no risks when you have your phone with yourself mostly.
3. Availability of choosing fees - Not a mobile related thing but as most of the mobile wallets are not allowing this.

Firstly, the wallet has to be top notch in terms of security. Meaning, it has to be fully secured with private keys, mnemonics, keystore and the ability to be locked with biometrics and every other high level security feature. Secondly, wallet must be swift and fluid with the ability to be accessed and used conveniently. Thirdly, wallet should have support for multi chains, meaning, it must not be limited to just a single blockchain but have support for several blockchains. Other secondary features include DEX or inbuilt decentralized exchanges.

Storing multiple coins and tokens in a same place is the best feature of mobile wallets in my opinion and easy to keep track of all our transactions, no need to login to our desktop.Adjusting the fees manually is also available in some crypto wallets.

^ The most important is, you are the one who holds your private key. Because this means that not your private key, not your coins stored.
Probably people looking wallets are those that can be installed and downloaded on google play store because it is safe and reliable from hacking and phishing links. Once it is fully verified by the google play store it means it is safe but if not they will delete it. Nevertheless, the crypto mobile app wallet is very risky, that why I installed those trusted ones that did not have major complaints of hacking.

While choosing a mobile wallet service, I pay attention to be easy to use, to operate smoothly and to be easily accessible.  On the other hand, while making a choice, I pay attention to make detailed research about the application security and the project team and make choices accordingly.  On the other hand, if I am using an Android device, I download the application I prefer via the “Google Play Store” and I definitely do not prefer APK files provided by external sources.

Great input, the 3rd one made me remember a user that paid over $2m (https://mashable.com/article/million-cryptocurrency-ethereum-fee-paid-by-mistake/) in transaction fee today. probably, the wallet had made that error during an automatic fee calculation.

Mobile wallets is the most commonly used type of wallet. i.e is a simple app that is downloaded to the smartphone. in which the enormous usability reduces one security level because the loss or theft of the smartphone could allow access to the user’s private key. Therefore, it is necessary to make a copy of the private keys on another device. It would also be advisable as a feature of the wallet to have a quick and efficient way to block the funds at the user’s request. Without these precautions, with the loss or theft of the smartphone, all funds deposited in the wallet could be lost.
best features:
1. is identified with an address.
2. The balance in cryptocurrencies associated with an address is public. Thus, one can check the cryptocurrencies managed in a wallet.
3. The wallets interact in a market or Stock Exchange. i.e a financial market that allows trading between different currencies as well as assigning economic value to cryptocurrencies,

WTF! I wasnt aware for this news or just missed this one. I cant imagine the user do feel right now on setting out that $2M in fees.
Going back on topic about what are the features that i do prefer on a crypto wallet.

All things can be seen when you do make use of electrum or Imtoken.

1. You do have the keys.
2. Importing via QR
3. Security which is always in default.

The most important thing should be the ability to export your private key consider as the owner of the amount and you must able to move or open your wallet in various kinds of wallets. It's not that all of the wallets have made this feature available and it's really important features that must have available in any wallet.

First, make sure the wallet application can be installed on our device. Also make sure we can have a private key, not just a password. In addition, we also need to download it from the official and trusted websites.
We can use app store and play store. Never download it from an unclear source, it could be fake, and you can lose all your coins. Don't forget to use the default security, usually in the form of email/phone confirmation, and 2fa.

We are using mobile wallets because these wallets are very easy to use and access anywhere. The best feature is swap option I think, none of this good feature is this feature. Some mobile wallets have deposit fees. This isn't good. One feature should be added for any mobile wallet coins received from mail.

the most important feature is the security feature, because it's a feature that makes people always use a mobile wallet. sometimes there are cases of loss, assets sent to other wallets without the knowledge of the owner, many cases like this have been experienced by mobile wallet users

The security is the most important features that a mobile crypto wallet needed because that will secure the user account so they can prevent from the hacker. The other features may be about the converting function inside the wallet so the user can convert their coins to another coin, and they don't have to send it into the exchanges.

Very few mobile wallet has the option to sign a message from an address. In electrum mobile, it is not available. I would be more than happy to see every mobile wallet has the option to sign message. Things like having full access, private key, seed key are first priority but such features should be by default.

1. Adjustable Transaction fee
2. QR Scanner
3. Inbuilt staking features
4. Automatically erc20 tokens adder

These are the best features I expect from a good mobile wallet, the only wallet can offers such right now is trust wallet

The feature you are looking for is available in Trust wallet, it comes automatically off and you need to go into settings under trust wallet app and on this feature yourself, it works good.

it's not even a feature and that's the main thing that must be owned by any wallet. There must be various features like hybrid exchange site that builds inside the wallet itself combined with staking and masternode support.

It's better if the wallet created the explorer feature too.

True! However, I think it'll take a while for developing those features in the mobile crypto wallet. One of the favorite things, when I use the mobile crypto wallet, is its convenience. I can access my wallet wherever I want. I think, personally, the mobile crypto wallet will be the future of the cryptocurrency wallet.

High security feature, low fee transaction, and performance wise fast and friendly user.

Not all mobile wallet are good. Some of them even consist of virus and malware so better not just download wallets on Playstore but you must also review if the content and feedback are all good. Im using imtoken app and trustwallet and so far I had no problem using it. But my eth address are created on mew just importing it. Trustwallet is so cool you can store even binance chain token and other blockchain like zilliqa and many more.

Yes the conversion feature becomes an interesting feature in a mobile Crypto wallet. But I think there is rarely a mobile wallet that provides this feature. I personally still rarely use other mobile wallet besides Imtoken. Can you give me an example wallet that provides conversion features?

Sometimes a mobile wallet offers encryption, and that is appealing to me. The flexibility and ease is also cool, you don’t have to turn on your computer to carry out transactions. Well, I have a mobile wallet that even supports trading. So mobile crypto wallet has been very helpful.

A mobile wallet that gives us control of our private key is my major requirement from any mobile wallet out there. Apart from that, some extra security function on the wallet is also great. Some good and easy to handle UI will seal the deal. Right now I am using Trust wallet and Enjin wallet(for NFTs).

Yes that's true, multi-currency mobile wallets are becoming the main deal now, and in my own opinion, the best things to look out for or the questions to be asked is, does the wallet support a good number of cryptocurrencies taking into account there are many cryptocurrencies in the crypto space today?. Another is, the cryptocurrencies that one can stake, can it be done (that is the staking) within that multi-currency mobile wallet?. While the last is, is there a fingerprint scanner to make login easy?

I had a strange experience earlier this year when I wanted to import my Coinnomi wallet to Trust wallet using the passphrase. It is a 16 Digit old passphrase I open back in 2018. Whenever I import my wallet to Trust wallet or any other wallet, it gives me a new ETH address different from the one in the original Coinomi wallet from which I had created the wallet. I guess it was compatibility issues, I had to create a new wallet and transfer all my funds.

I always look for the mobile wallet which do have a strong security. The reputation of such wallet rely on how secured their system is. Also, been looking for the one that can easily manage, I do not want some complicated features as well. Though I am also in favor of lower fees since some mobile wallets have fixed high rates but I still understand about that.

Yes, but that feature can also sometimes be very useful if the tokens or coins we have are not in another exchange, but if the tokens or coins we have are in another exchange at a price ratio that is almost the same, then it's better to sell them in exchange other than selling in the wallet feature directly.

Yes, convenience will be the most thing that we needed to choose the wallet that we want. If we can not feel convenient, we will not select that wallet, and we will search for the other wallet. We see that in any country, many companies offer a digital wallet to store the money, and people can use that wallet to buy or pay something that they want.

Yes the conversion feature becomes an interesting feature in a mobile Crypto wallet. But I think there is rarely a mobile wallet that provides this feature. I personally still rarely use other mobile wallet besides Imtoken. Can you give me an example wallet that provides conversion features?
So far, I use Jaxx, and I don't have any problem, but I heard that some people complain or don't like with that wallet. Besides of Jaxx, I use Atomic wallet to store my coins. But I save the other coin in my ledger ;D

thats impossible . crypto wallets that have a built in exchange can only support small number of coins  not unlike to regular exchange that can support many kinds of coins  but like you said if the coin is available on both crypto wallet with a built in exchange and on a regular exchange at same price rate , its better that you can trade inside your wallet because this saves time and effort most especially if you dont have an account on an exchange   . add in the the transfer fees and the trading fees to when you transfer your coins and when you use a regular exchange  .

That your wallet is everywhere you are. People shouldn´t hold all their coins on a mobile wallet, but you never know what will happen to your mobile phone. So transfer funds to your mobile phone that you are going to spend on goods for example and rest keep on your hardware wallet.  8)

My favorite hardware wallet, and by far the most popular, is the Trezor wallet. I could call it my best cryptocurrency wallet. It is a bulletproof Bitcoin wallet and is hyper-secure it supports Windows, Linux, Max and has one of the best Android wallet apps available for cold storage crypto investment.

but you don't carry your computer anywhere when you are in a supermarket, cafe or transport terminal, a smartphone is the best device for making payments. this efficiency makes the crypto mobile wallet more useful. ;D

If you’re looking for a multi coin wallet you may like to check out Trust Crypto Wallet, it’s like the best I have ever seen and I like its interface that is simple without much clustering like other wallets would do, just like Coinomi and the other ones; Trust Crypto Wallet is better than them. I don’t make use of it on a steady because before I got to know about it I’m already making use of BitPay and Blockchain on my mobile device and they are all good.

Of course I have seen people that claim they are good, there will always be a complaint in everything. Just use whatever you think is good for you and nothing more. I like Blockchain for the fact that when I’m making transaction I can select what fees I want to pay, whether priority, regular or custom fee.

4. Support NFT

A lot of people mentioned Biometrics, on the flip-side don't you think this could lead to potential flaws in wallets? I mean anyone could cut off your finger and gain access to your funds LOL... On a lighter note, anyone could assess your fund while you are sleeping by simply tapping it using your index finger.

In choosing a crypto mobile wallet , i would go for a crypto wallet that is able to store coins/ token from multiple blockchian.   If i am able to store all by crypto assets irrespective of the blockchain and be able to securely send out and receive other assets  then i will be happy with that .

It's quite true there are many mobile crypto wallets now and what really differentiate them is their features and advanced nature. About the features to look out for in every multi-cryptocurrency mobile wallet is; does the mobile wallet support a good number of other cryptocurrencies and if yes, for those that have staking systems, does it support it too?. Does it have fingerprint scanner for better and easy accessibility? And lastly, how often does the team release an update to enhance both security and UI?.
