Just want to know as well. I haven't registered to roobet yet. It'd be fun to also see some entries of contestants as early as today but there are just no preferences to being with parts from the logo and mascot of roobet. There is a higher chance for gif to win than just a png image, that's my take on this contest.

I went from being a kid to something because i still don’t understand and also things i learned from previous competitions.

First of all, if a member brings this art from a third party with some money and participates in this competition again, then why it will be accepted. If this is the rule then the admin you can get the design from all these sites fiver, upwork etc then this competition will not be needed.

Second from the previous contest i saw that many members used software to do this design but why would it be considered acceptable, Because drawing with your own hands and creating using software will be the same? Never same. If there use software for this competition then how can i do better than them with hand design?.

However, for me this is not possible as more people will use software for this competition and some people will design with money from other people like third party.

I doubt anyone that finished top 5 in the last competition (3 of 5 winners did something handmade btw) used fiverr or otherwsie and submitted that as their artwork..

I can't really deny anyone using photoshop or other software, it is art too and unless I make one competition specifically for hand crafted things I will accept everything. Besides, where does it end if we draw it there? One competition if you paint on canvas and one if you draw with pencils? You can take it one step further no matter how you look at it and at that point we would offer $100 to one person in each category rather than one combined art comp. like this one.

There is no requirement to join though, this is just something for the community and whoever wants to, can join :).

I actually agree with your point but the fact that these people who are going to commissioned the artwork just for the sake of entering the competition will cost them a lot of money without the certainty of getting into top5. You are taking a lot of risk if you considered doing it.

You can actually scale the quality of your artwork even if it is drawn using graphite/ charcoal medium if you can easily understand how tonal values works and how you can illustrate the mood of your concept. The quality of the output actually depends on the level of your skills not on the medium you have used to create your entry.

I appreciate all of the complaints here are stated from (hopefully) real accounts, not in newbie alts so I believe these comments are objective and not offending anyone. First of all, I think it's okay if the winners in last contest are allowed to join again, so the other participants would put more effort this time, especially after the prize has been doubled by Roobet team. You can take the winners designs as the reference for your next art(s).

Regarding the software, your drawing might look better if you use that, but that's useless if you have no talent on it. You can learn from Youtube about how to use any software, but it doesn't mean your drawing skill will get improved immediately. I think two of winners from the last contest, Karmakid and 5Ksana_HandMade didn't use specific software for their outstanding art works, yet they managed to secure 2nd and 3rd positions. It's all about creativity.

Imo getting design from third party website for a contest is a dishonest act even though it's been paid, and if you catch someone doing this, you could report it by providing solid proof(s) and it will affect the score of the reported designs by the judges. This contest is for a fun purpose, not a business.

Exactly, this is a contest (battle), where we need to won against the last winners or else they will remain undefeated (I’m part of the first batch winners :D) and can considered as all time champion. Come on, this is just like a sports where defending champion have to defend the title all over again.

Man you have no idea how hard to make a digital artwork using software like photoshop haha, Digital and Traditional artwork are valued the same, cause the expertise of using those two medium of art takes a lot of time to master. I am both traditional and Digital artist, and yes! I get more money using traditional cause it's my expertise but that doesn't mean that digital is less valuable than traditional artwork. Just go to deviant art and you will see some artist and clients there are willing to pay a thousand of bucks for a digital artwork.

With regards to people who are going to pay artist to join here, trust me that is not going to work LOL, Coz you are going to pay more than a thousand bucks to generate an artwork that may win this competition or maybe not  ;)

Last competition I lost also, and that's a shame cause I win the 10th anniv. competition but I can't win a competition like that. That's because of my 1 day preparation and 1 day artwork. But this competition, I will give my all and will make sure that I will get the 1st prize!  ;D So cheer up mate! don't underestimate any kind of medium, it's not the medium of art but the artist expertise to make a wonderful art and express it  ;)

I think there is a misconception when it comes to digital artworks because it seems that there some people who thinks creating arts using software is easy and basic but all of it is a lie and untrue.

It really takes time, effort, hardwork, blood and sweat in order to enhanced and fully developed skills when it comes to creating arts using digital software. Making artworks in digital is the same with traditional. The only difference is, we make one with the help of a computer but the process is still the same. We have different software to use, yes, but that doesn't mean that the outcome will always be better than the traditional. It still depends on the skills u have. I use adobe photoshop with a mouse instead of a pentab. I had a hard time coloring the whole piece, coloring with a mouse is very difficult to control than the usual pentab. Honestly, traditional is still better than digital. Easier to control, easier to manage and easier to make.

I won the first place in the last competition because of the digital artwork that I did. It took me days for me to finished, I actually got migraine because of the hardwork and effort that I put in it but it is okay because I'm having fun about it. I will participate again in this contest and I will surpass my limits in order to achieve 1st place again! Goodluck to all of the participants! Don't forget to have fun when doing your own artwork.

Is it valid to entry an artwork with "Heavy referencing" from the winning piece last time?
Also, did the original artist gave you permission to use his idea and concept? If so, then there's no problem with this.
If not, then there will be an issue here.... I guess, plagiarism.

You have no idea on what you are talking about. Copying Ideas, art style etc, is not plagiarism. The only plagiarism that can be do in art is copying the whole piece of a finished artwork, That's why parody in art is legal and can do by anyone! Referencing is legal, copying the style is legal, copying the idea is legal. The only thing that is not legal is copy a piece 100% with no addition and forgery.

There's a whole lot difference between plagiarism in art and literature[word base work]. If you copy and paste in literature then it's plagiarism - that is what's stated in the fact that you have given at Plagiarism.org, but in art there's a whole lot of concept to be consider because it is visual and not base on letter and words.

I know what you are saying, but your knowledge of what is plagiarism and what is legal in art is very wrong.

Hhampuz, I'm very sorry for adding one more off topic post, but I have to clarify few things regarding plagiarism here.

Tbh, I dislike law, since it could be twisted by some people who want to take advantage of it, whether they are right or wrong. But yes, getting inspiration from other design to make your own, even just modifying some little parts of existed design to be yours is allowed by law, as long as it's not for commercial use. But why there are people or companies that copying or plagiarizing design obviously not punished by the law even tho they use it commercially? One, its because of the extremely high legal cost, which even if you win the case, it might doesn't cover all of cost you have spent. Two, the owner of original design has much larger business than the copycat, so filing a lawsuit would waste time and money.

E.g. you must know that there are Nike copycats around the world with slightly different name or some tweak on the swoosh logo. But as you can see Nike doesn't really care about that since it doesn't affect too much on their worldwide business.

Another example, if you are a designer, you may have heard about the previous Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic's logo that accused to plagiarize Théâtre de Liège's logo and its designer filed a lawsuit against Olympic Committee. In the end, the designer dropped his lawsuit because of the high cost issue, and the Olympic Committee decided to use new logo that are being using until now. I like how the Olympic Committee handled this issue, as they are a professional organisation and they know "ETHICS". When the original designer dropped his lawsuit, actually the Olympic Committee has full right to continue using the logo by the law, but they are aware that it could impact their image and credibility.

I made 26 layers to put all the glowing colors and background tracing to perfectly fit to the drawing.

The idea of this art project was mine, but I couldn't make the sculpture without help from my husband, advices from friends and family, and from the Internet. Did I use the word "sculpture"? Yes, I did because a real sculpture we created.

It was made from quality cement mix, so it took 3 days for it to cake into a firm stonelike texture. And it was painted with water-resistant alkyd paint, highly resistant to abrasion and weathering, so it took more than 36 hours for it to properly dry:

We thought it could be dismantled pretty soon either by street sweepers or by some random people, but it was still there 4 hours later.

That's really true. If there is another contest, just don't make any traditional drawing anymore since it doesn't get any attention to be a winner.
If we see the 5 winner, its only seems created by 3rd party, look at the winner number 5, is there any process on the art? No, isn't it? They just posted the result because they *might* be hire 3rd party to create for them and then will share the winnings if their art is choosen.
Winner number 4, it's even 4 years old child can make that, you just need buy glue, paper, and some beads has gold colour and create roobet's logo.
Winner number 3, just hire people who can cut and arrange the wood with same like roobet's logo
Winner number 2, well this is i can't say anything since i'm amazed too with the result.
Winner number 1, Does roobet kill the monster? Is roobet a game site? The art isn't even completed yet if you watch the video until the end. What's the relation between Kill the monster and gambling site? 0 or ZERO, it has nothing to do with the gambling

There are many others arts which more suitable to become the winner and should be choosen rather than most of those top 5 winners.

I too have different choices, but who cares? There was a lot of good out there and I don't think that even 10 spots would have fit all of the content.

So a "traditional drawing" can never, under any circumstances, be made by a 3rd party? I'm not sure what I'm missing here, especially if you didn't participate in the contest.

There's a panel of judges who give points from 1-10 with 1 decimal and these points are then combined to determine the winners. It is what it is and if you don't like the way it runs you are always free to host your own art contest :).

Winner number 1 @Yatsan is indeed a great visual creator hence he will not be called as one of the great artist who participated in the last bitcointalk 10th anniversary art contest, that is why he is wearing that particular limited edition "brush" badge.

As per his entry though, it is actually not about the concept of killing the monster or being related to a gambling site but rather it is about employing his skills in which he did a great job on creating such magnificent frame by frame animation which is quite difficult to implement on an artist's point of view.

Also, as far as I know, there is no such rules where the need of creating an artwork is based on a gambling concept. As long you incorporate the roobet logo and mr. roo itself onto you artwork will do. Even my entry, it does not include the gambling concept but rather a halloween concept which is pretty unrelated to how gambling works LOL ;D

I'm not against the winners and the decision, since we all have our own preferences and infact this is their contest, so it's always their choice, and this winners made enough effort to reach the reward.
I just noticed the judges doesn't have enough appreciation in traditional drawings. So, this somehow encourages me to learn on digital aspects since digital and traditional drawings have their own levels of difficulties and I can say both aren't easy to make.

It's funny that we, participants who lose the contest is happy with the result while some alts or rather new account here who did not even participated have the guts to questions Roobet Team's decision.

Lol softwares like Photoshop is just a tool if you can't use it properly. It is a product of technology.
Traditinal drawing also uses technology, pencils, paints etc.
If you are here to argue with traditional vs digital then go back to prehistoric era where caveman used Stone to draw on walls. LOL

Indeed, even I think the equivalent. I took part in both the challenges until and have even invested a decent amount of energy in both of my arts. Yet, I didn't won anything. The judges don't appear be from an artistic foundation to me.

Be that as it may, at long last it's their compitetion, their rules and their results. I am happy that this compitetion occurred and congratulate to all the winners too.

The winners deserve on that spot, and I’m sure its hard to judge this contest considering the effort of every participants but then again, this is a competition and only 5 winners will prevail.

I suggest if there’s a next art competition, the winners will divided into categories like Traditional painting, hand curving, gif, and digital art. Well, it will still depend on the management. :)

Yes, I used the same card as I liked the shadows on it basically. But I never intended to plagiarize anything out of it.

Even when I utilized an part of my last time submission in this one, I mentioned it eariler in the intro post to my art ( even removed the card this time ). I have really put an effort in both of my arts to be true.

I'm also curious with my entry's score. Knowing it would make me do more in the aspect/category I fail to gain a perfect score, if ever there would be another contest to be made by the Roobet team (which we all hope so). But I think they only had points with what they think are good in making the top 5 as they based purely by the team's taste in the arts submitted, yet I think mine doesn't have any scores lol

I hope the September Art Contest would have lesser prize for 1st winner but would have consolation prices.

Congratulations to all the winners. The first and second prize entries were the best though I would reverse their order since I fell in love with the Halloween style Roobet artwork.

Honestly, there will always be people who complain about this and that(Many are using alt newbie accounts clearly) which is why I advise ignoring them.

I did observe similar winners from 1st and 2nd contests though. Surprised that Cabalism didn't win. Anyway, enjoy your winnings.

Art connoisseurs/consumers do not have to have an artistic soul/foundation, they only need to have an artistic taste even though it is relative. I believe that your artwork is best according to you, but according to me or other people? not necessarily. A person's personality affects their taste for art and you can't deny it. Will you scold or blame them for not having the same taste?

Entering a contest does not have to win, you have accidentally shown your talents in this forum. Maybe you are the first winner for other members who have the same artistic taste as you. One time you will be contacted by someone who is interested in your work.

I'm most likely not going to post the spreadsheet with point calculation, I don't see any point to it besides people getting hurt if they scored low.

As I monitor this thread the whole month of September, I've seen a lot of entries that is deserving to win the spots of top 5. I know all you guys want to win or be at top 5 but the thing is the taste of judges does not favor your artwork but I'm sure everyone's artwork is appreciated and that is more important than the money.

If you did not win, don't pull others artwork down, you don't know how much effort they inserted to build it.

And for those people who thinks that Drawings are underappreciated you guys are wrong, what you guys have in mid is that hand made is the best form of art when in fact there are thousands of artwork that can be made creatively.

Truly thank you for your thoughtful clarification and inspiration. I concur with you on everybody not having same artistic taste, yet I simply needed to bring up that the efforts put in the vast majority of the arts are effortlessly observed by anybody who would not understand the art itself. I see each art isn't similarly attracting to everybody.

I took an interest here positively, and simply trust atleast a portion of the observer's here to like and enjoy my submission. I even think the initial 2 winners Yatsan and Maus0728 are great computerized artists and deserve the price.

Imo, it's not even necessary, mind you that your score on this Roobet art contest doesn't reflect or define your skills as an artist or a designer (it's either you met or didn't meet the companies standards) so I don't know how getting to know your score will help you to "avoid the same mistakes", except you're talking in anticipation of another art contest by the Roobet team soon enough.

The judges (roobet and Hhampuz) chose based on their preferences for their company what they feel is the best, the score doesn't literally mean the art work is poor per se, but poor based on what they were looking for as an advertisement, so why know your score when your art can pass as number one on a different art contest somewhere else, but not for them, because that's not what they were looking for. That being said, if Hhampuz starts sending users their scores through pm, many users will start flooding his pm for the same request.

I just want to confirm that Roobet has finally sent their promised reward for the top 5 participants in this Roobet Art Contest. Also, just wanted to honor Hhampuz and the Roobet team for doing their best in making this art contest possible for bitcointalk members.

For people who did not make it to the top 5, I just wanted you to remind that "practice makes progress" for every artwork you make in the process or maybe in the long run, just keep harnessing and watch all the art resources that is scattered on the internet since all of the skills required in creating such a wonderful masterpiece is by learning and applying it consistently.

As for the issue of "unappreciated" traditional drawings, actually, both digital and traditional artworks have their own properties, techniques and advantages. They also have different approach that an artist needs to consider before creating an artwork making them inappropriate as a subject of comparison between a digital artwork. As a matter of fact, I am also a traditional graphite, oil and acrylic artist in the past and have them showcase in this forum last 10th bitcointalk anniversary contest. Even though I did not won the contest, my graphite drawing still become part of the nomination for the limited edition brush badge.

Nonetheless, thank you everyone. Still looking forward for another contest. :D

I hope the team doesn't get discouraged from the negativity coming from the complaints from users who didn't win, that's just sad :(
