Title: Very small phone for hardware multisig. Post by: DaveF on September 01, 2020, 11:55:19 PM Saw this:
https://palm.com/products/palm-unlocked And thought, that would cool to setup as the 2nd device for a multisig wallet in addition to my regular phone. I have been using my laptop as the 2nd device but I just think that something like a phone that small would be easier. Would any of you do it, or am I just that much of a nerd? -Dave Title: Re: Very small phone for hardware multisig. Post by: hugeblack on September 02, 2020, 09:45:12 AM What is the thing that distinguishes this device and makes it worth about $ 250? I have read the features, they are all normal and can be obtained at cheaper prices.
You can use another phone or buy a hardware wallet. I also remember that there are air gap phones that can be used. I will insert the link when I remember it. Post by: Lucius on September 02, 2020, 10:39:48 AM DaveF, if your main goal is to use multisig on as small a mobile phone as possible, then you are on the right track, but if you want something even smaller in size I suggest you take a look at Unihertz Atom (https://www.androidauthority.com/unihertz-atom-review-936593/), which has only a 2.45-inch display.
The price starts at almost $400 on Amazon, but let's say it can be found below $250, if you look at sites like this (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32961601982.html). And since it's a phone vs. trezor / ledger / coldcard / etc. it can be remote wiped. The Atom is supposed to be rugged which looks interesting. I don't see any features which emphasize security, it's no different with using your old or 2nd smartphone as your wallet. In the end, what matters is your preferences when choosing device to store your multisig wallet. I have been trying to figure out a better way then phone + laptop or phone + old phone. Just saw the small phone and thought that it would be a neat concept. -Dave Title: Re: Very small phone for hardware multisig. Post by: dkbit98 on September 02, 2020, 11:59:23 PM I would not use this palmphone as hardware device.
Cheaper alternative for this would be to have some old smartphone, do fresh reinstall of linux OS or make devise hard reset. Install electrum wallet, and then disable internet access and remove sim card. If you need to use the wallet you can enable internet access. Title: Re: Very small phone for hardware multisig. Post by: DaveF on September 03, 2020, 03:16:15 PM General consensus here seems to be no.
I was just trying to come up with the 2nd multisig device that did not involve my laptop or tablet but rather something smaller. I know I could always use an old phone, but this just seems small enough to keep around and not worry about. Thanks for your input everyone. Just it's size, and the fact that it is something different. And since it's a phone vs. trezor / ledger / coldcard / etc. it can be remote wiped. That also means someone could take control over your phone remotely ::) If anyone got deep enough into my server to talk to the phone to initiate the remote wipe I'm already having other issues. Either way, that's all you could do with the permissions. Wipe. -Dave Title: Re: Very small phone for hardware multisig. Post by: HCP on September 03, 2020, 11:28:16 PM General consensus here seems to be no. I don't see anything inherently "wrong" with the idea... like the others have said, it's not really any different to any other phone/device... except that it is quite small.I was just trying to come up with the 2nd multisig device that did not involve my laptop or tablet but rather something smaller. So, if it matches your requirements, why not? ??? Title: Re: Very small phone for hardware multisig. Post by: DaveF on September 04, 2020, 05:40:35 PM General consensus here seems to be no. It's not cheap. I really wish I could use an OTG cable and my coldcard with my phone, but not going to happen. -Dave Title: Re: Very small phone for hardware multisig. That would probably have been the one downside I would have pointed out... it's not the cheapest phone that you could use. :PThrew this out there and outside of me nobody really went wow great idea. Apparently Bluewallet is supported, which is mobile only... so I assume it works with OTG... is it because you're using it in "airgap" mode with the microSD card? ???Title: Re: Very small phone for hardware multisig. I'm sure there are probably phones out there that do but neither my Motorola or my girlfriends Samsung can do it. My tablet does put out enough power, but if I wanted to carry it I would not need to worry about the coldcard I would just use the tablet for multisig. -Dave Title: Re: Very small phone for hardware multisig. Post by: HCP on September 04, 2020, 11:29:16 PM Because the phone does not put out enough power to turn it on. Maybe you just need something like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32915960943.html ... and a USB power pack ;)Although, that is really starting to complicate matters and bulk up your load out :-\ |
