As an enthusiast, you would want to learn more about the assets you are interested in;
Check out this articles for information on basics of Bitcoin as well as best security practices;

As an investor you would need;
• A tool with which to monitor the changes in the market. For this you could check out https://tradingview.com/ or regular cryptocurrency market trackers like, coingecko or CMC

Optimum security practice; this begins with a secure wallet to store your assets in. I recommend a hardware wallet like ledger or trezor, ensure you get it from the official website. You should begin to practice safe browsing and be more alert when using the internet, if you chose to be your own bank, you also have to take responsibility.
Recommendation from a forum member;
Stop using Google to find the website of exchanges, services, or wallet.

Stop following random links without checking the URL.

Start using uBlock Origin.

Never type your seed in anywhere.
...

• You would also need an investment plan, to avoid panic selling or bag holding. Check out this thread - (SSS) - A Sane and Simple bitcoin Savings plan
 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345065.msg3697405#msg3697405).
Note: Your plan should be customized to you, take ideas of other as just suggestions.

• It would help to stay ahead of the market, explore changes and updates and decide what should and should not be in your portfolio, this forum can be a very useful tool for that. Good luck!

In addition, you need to know that scammers are everywhere on the internet, and they are ready to steal your bitcoin and/or other cryptocurrencies. To avoid them is not hard, only what you have to do is to avoid unsafe use of your device used as crypto wallet. Or, better use hardware wallet which are the safest, but still very important to avoid malware, as malware can also still change your recipient address into scammer address.

It's quite complicated to find such as the website from where you will find how to invest. Most of them will lead to investing in scam projects. You have to do your own diligence before invest, trusting blindly will not be a good idea. You should have historical knowledge about any coin where you are going to invest and how they are potential, what is their concept. More importantly, you should know how strong their team and community. Just spend more time with the crypto community like this forum, so you will be able to learn practically.

To invest, you have to start with a quiet place, to stay inactive (it is best if you can mediate) to rescan all things you did so far in your life. This process is done to help you figure it out that how your emotion is (flexible, changes quickly, unstable) and how you control your emotion.

That is the important thing in investment and in trading. I know investment and trading are different but emotion and control emotion are important for both.

If you feel you have bad emotional reaction and lack of ability to control it, try to practice more and control it before you start your journey in crypto. The journey will take such disadvantage of yours to steal your money.

A quick genuine question: I'm not going to make complete assumptions, but  do you actually know what you're investing in? Namely, "bitcoin, etherum and ripple"? I'm asking this because one or two of those assets in your list is a really really bad investment in my opinion.

I genuinely wish you the best of luck though.

For me his just being a playsafe investors. Even without much knowledge on those he mentioned simple analogy of being on a top spot on cryptocurrency can be please to invest on those regardless of the cons some of the coin have. Even me, I will invest on those compared to new shitcoins coming out from defi hype. Im curious which one should invest on your opinion aside from bitcoin?

The market is so volatile so we can learn from an expert regarding which one can at least save us from being rekt. Thanks for your response.

Isn't is a mistake on your side which you invested already yet you still learning the space? Somehow it's good thing you invested on bitcoin but on the education side not just you but for other future investors on the crypto space it's literally the best if you learn it first rather hopping in just because of hype or other FOMOs. Crypto is very volatile.

I think I'd recommend it here more than any other platforms.

There is a lot of information right there and if you are trying to learn why not start here on our forum but if you have a budget for learning there are a lot of courses right there which is one of the examples is the

Udemy
Edx
Shaw academy

Those are the common platform for learning but if you don't want is you can visit on YouTube because most of the time there are some channels giving some free lessons which are a whole playlist on their videos that you can try too.

You can try too the binance for buying coin if this supported on your country

Investment for a beginners is really a big challenge. So when a beginner decide to invest in crypto must need to learn about it. Yes, you can do it without learn but most of the cases you will be failed. So you have to learn must.
What coolcryptovator has said that, it’s indeed risky to suggest any site which will show you a good way without their interest. That means they will suggest you to invest in where they have invested/can earn some passive income. So I will only suggest you to gain knowledge about cryptocurrency by using youtube and google so that you only can take a good decision without any help from others. Good Luck man.

I'd say picking the top assets would be a safe play when talking about stocks, but crypto? Knowing that XRP is in the #3 spot? Definitely not.

Personally, bitcoin only. The rest? I'd rather invest in personal businesses, or on the stock market.

The best place to start is the Bitcoin Whitepaper. Many people completely neglect it, but it is a quick read and even people with no technical knowledge can understand the basics of blockchain technology with it. Since the Bitcoin and the Bitcoin Whitepaper specifically is where the entire crypto rush started, so reading and understanding it will be a great starting point and give you a good grasp of the crypto ecosystem as a whole.

There are a lot of videos in regards to investing crypto and teaching you how to invest, choosing the best coins, and many others but you don't be surprised that it leads you into one exchanger.  Could be just misleading, that is why I'd never watch videos especially when it looks like they promoting something.

As a newbie, we better not to interact easily with those videos that we usually see online or anything we read about crypto. Because most of them are not true and not worthy of trust. This also not a thing that helps you, they are only catching your attention and might bring you there to suffer. It could be nice if we spend time to observe and so we have time to assess their legitimacy.

In addition, if the CMC ranking is used as an indicator for choosing altcoins by beginner investors, then I strongly agree with you if that a big mistake. Because the CMC ranking cannot be used as an indicator for investing in crypto. It's will be useless if even the coin has high CMC rankings but in the end they become a scam. Beginner should also check historical data of CMC (https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20170103/) (example snapshot link) there a lot of top altcoins in the past, currently doesn't have any volume or doesn't have a market.

Ripple is the bad one and Ethereum is not good as many people thought of. It is not completely wrong to say Ethereum is used by scammers as their very favorite tool to create their scam projects, then steal funds from investors. Such abuse brings adverse effects back to Ethereum price, keep it at low for a long time (high fee, abuse from scammers).

ICO, IEO, then DeFi this year. I also see a shooting star that tries to replace or at least repeat what Ethereum has, and has been used more popularly by scammers, TRON. Who can forget the lunch of Justin Sun?  :D

I know what scammers can abuse on anything they can use as their tools. Bitcoin, Ethereum, TRON, and any other cryptocurrencies. Investors can not blame on Ethereum's core team responsibility for their own bad investment choices. It is how market works (bad entry, bad exit, loss) and how winners and losers on the market earn or lose money.

As said, 'it is not completely wrong' but it is unfair to say Ethereum is a scam and is created for scammers. Bad or good depends on how each person uses it.

Alfred Nobel’s life and work (https://www.nobelprize.org/alfred-nobel/alfred-nobels-life-and-work/) (invention of Nobel has two sides and we can not blame on him on how bad guys abuse his invetion)

ETH being a good or bad "investment" is still heavily debatable imo, even though I personally don't hold any. It still sucks in it's current state but it could change(though I'm not betting that it will).

As for Ethereum being used for scams, I don't think it's a good argument to be against Ethereum; as people would always abuse the fact that anyone could build stuff on Ethereum, just like how people abuse the pseudo-anonymity of Bitcoin.

As for XRP though..

I'd say picking the top assets would be a safe play when talking about stocks, but crypto? Knowing that XRP is in the #3 spot? Definitely not.

that is the main reason why shitcoins such as ripple (100% premine) and ethereum (72 million premine) inflated their market cap with fake (out of circulation) supply. to remain on top of the list that is sorted using the arbitrary and very wrong value known as market capitalization.

that means newcomers see it on "top" and think it is "famous" and a "good investment" so they start buying it up. so far it seems to have worked for them nicely but i don't think things would continue this way for long. after all the "top 10" altcoin list has changed significantly over the course of the market existence multiple times already.

As a beginner, bitcoin and ethereum are standard and good investments. All altcoins, in my opinion, are only good as trades. You eventually want to trade them for a profit in bitcoin and therefore accumulate more bitcoin. Very, very few projects other than say NEO and Cardano stand the test of time and even if you look at those projects, they don't really have strong charts compared to bitcoin.

Its fine actually. These three are on the top coin rankings. Actually nor any has assurance that can do good in the future. But based on investment for long term, these firms will be here and still be here for more years.

As said, 'it is not completely wrong' but it is unfair to say Ethereum is a scam and is created for scammers. Bad or good depends on how each person uses it.
I agree with you mate. Among the three choices, bitcoin is 100% the most decentralized in nature. It all depends on the user perspective.

Scammers maybe using ethereum due to its smart contract use case but removing those scam, I can say eth is not that bad though. Actually Im a trader and uses mainly eth due to tokens I liked under its wing.

But at the end of the day, its always us decide on our investment. Many dont like ripple concept indeed is not that great having huge chunk of premine. But lets be honest here we used it often due to its fast and low fee transaction on trading(traders). Id say Ive using it for that purpose and pretty much good compared to bitcoin on that category alone.

Buddy, Ethereum has payed its price to be dim worthy of been called a trusted cryptocurrencies. If I'm asked to give an advice on an altcoins for anyone that wants one to invest in, that's if the users don't doesn't want to Invest in Bitcoin or already has bitcoin and seriously want to own another coin then it has to be Ethereum. Scammers use bitcoin, does that make Bitcoin a scam? I believe not. Therefore Ethereum shouldn't be called a scam just because it provided a platform that's been user mostly by scammers for now.

Ethereum has contributed positively to the progress of the industry from creating decentralized platform to emerging new crowdfunding medium. That this new feature are been abused doesn't mean they can't be used for good. With time new innovation shall be introduced to better the development of the platform.

Our ignorance is what is costing us and not Ethereum itself. More development are needed if we want the industry to advance further. Bitcoin is a currency, Ethereum is a platform. Both can work hand in hand but still Bitcoin is superior and always the most recommended to patronize. Just do your personal research properly as there are great opportunities to profit from both project.

Crypto usually carries a lot of risk for newcomers if you have a good idea about the market it is possible to reduce the risk in the case of investment. I have invested and made a lot of profit but before that  have to check the currencies. Bitcoin and Ethereum are the best currencies to invest in the crypto market newcomers can easily invest in these currencies the risk will be less and it will be better to hold on in the long run.

Exactly this. For someone new in crypto is most important to learn how to safely store his coins. It does not matter if you pick the best coin that increases value 100 times in a year if someone steal it from you and you are left with nothing.  So I suggest op to learn about safety first.

Emotional control is very important, but other things like money management and research are also much more important. Investments are made when you begin to believe in the project you choose. Do some in-depth research and you've made sure the project is good.

make sure beforehand the target you want to achieve and how long it takes to invest. don't let the strategy you build will just end and not get a profit.

You made 2 big mistakes OP.

Mistake 1:

You picked cryptos based on their position on sites like coinmarketcap that cathegorize coins based on their total capitalization.

Bitcoin is nr1 so people think that alsl coins in the first 10 are good because they are so close to Bitcoin and as a result buy blind into shitcoins like XRP, BCH and BSV.

Mistake 2:

You are a beginner asking for advice but you've already bought top 2 market cap coins.

First ask for advice and learn then invest!

Have you tried investing low amount first to try the system? If you can do transfer of parts of coin then that will do good so as you can learn how it will be done. Most of the time we can learn something by doing. So, again my advise is that when you want to sell or transfer your coins then try a small amount first so that whenever you got mistakes then losing small amount of crypto funds will not hurt.

And also follow the tips that were being given by other user like having a cold storage wallet for your coins if it has huge amount of crypto because it will be a target for phishing or stealing your funds.

I find mining to be a better option.
To mine BTC, you first need to purchase mining units to provide the computing power necessary, the mining units are expensive and requires specific knowledge to set up and operate. When you purchased mining units, you then need to find/rent/purchase a “farm” to place those machines.

It's easy to say but hard to do. It's not a good recommendation for new players unless they are aggressively want to build a mining setup.

Instead, use the money to buy crypto. Much better and simple.

I use RRMines services. RRMine's decentralized computing power platform has a variety of products, In addition to the 3-year long-term contract, lock-in period of 30 days, 90 days, 180 days are also available.

I've checked the website and I read "cloudmining".

Not actually a good recommendation too for newbies. It requires advanced knowledge as it might lead newbies to expect a pure passive income.

And besides, cloudmining's reputation isn't good now due to lots of scams that happened in the past.

Title: Re: Invest for beginners
Post by: yazher on September 14, 2020, 02:06:23 PM
Just don't fall into cloud mining scams or those investments that you are not the one holding your cryptocurrencies. because if you let others do it for you there are higher percentages they won't give it back when the investment goes well. so you need to find it out yourself and study everything you need to master the art of investing in the crypto industry.

Even though our City is one of the top 5 in our country regarding the economy but regardless of the situation, there are lots of people who know about bitcoin but unfortunately, most of them knew different stories about it where they thought is only a kind of passive investment where you invest your money to some people who do the thing for you and the thing you need to do is wait. Therefore, the popularity hasn't been increasing rather it affects it in a bad way where most of the said investing method was turned out to be a scam.

So the first thing you must do is to learn how real investment works or else you will fall to the same category as those people above.

Very important thing to do when you are looking for coin to invest is the community that are supporting the project.

There are many possible ways but you have to pick the right guides, and like what you have said, those tutorials
from YouTube always have vested interest, avoid those chillers who are sharing projects that they've already have
a baghold, you are endangering your investment always read the news coming from the official sites of the project.

After the end of the lock-in period, users can freely trade or renew their computing power contracts. The contracts can be transferred to other users or repurchased by platforms then users can recoup their costs for buying contracts. A fixed investment will get you a more stable income, and you can choose to sell mined BTCs when the price is right for you. Also, you do not need to know how to set up, operate and maintain a crypto farm, they will take care of them all for you, it’s more of an investment instead of a technological challenge. they've a large userbase of 100,000+

There lot of cloud mining becomes a scam service, see what happens with hashflare, and I'm using their service when I interest in crypto for the first time. When I read some of the suggestion from an experienced member in this forum, mostly suggest user stay away from cloud mining. if you want to mining, better to mining with your own mining hardware. Or, simply to invest in Proof-of-Stake coin if they are (newbie) want to get some passive income, but this is also have any risks, DYOR/DWYOR before deciding to buy any of PoS coin.

If you decide to try them out you can use my referral code if you want 0R2L9
LOL, in the end promoting referral code ;D

It is good to invest but you must know about investing before investing it is easy to make a profit if you invest in the right currency you can invest in Bitcoin or Ethereum. Many good currencies have low risk in crypto if you can choose the right currency and have a good knowledge of the market not only newcomers are able to invest. if you can follow the trading charts the loss is less.

the problem is that people who actually have expertise in investing and trading anything in general aren't going to spend their time making youtube videos guiding others, and the same people (aka experts) would definitely never waste their time give advice on what to buy.
when looking at youtube videos, specially those involving trading cryptocurrencies everyone that i have seen so far has been created by a newbie or a scammer trying to pump the shitcoin they had bought.
that is why i would advise against spending that much time on youtube for education purposes in this topic.

Investing you coins as a beginner, I think all you need to know is to keep yourself busy with the forum to know where and where to invest your coin.
Personal research as a beginner is very important for someone to carry out before investing in a particular place not to fall in the hands of scammer.

for beginners, it is expected to be more active in asking seniors before invest...
You can do this by PM to seniors who you believe have the skills to give you the right direction.

...
Youtube has lots of videos and tutorials, and always make a research before investing because its risky, you might end up with good profit or rekt. So just have a little knowledge it might save from fraud.
YouTube is good too, but sometimes there are also many irresponsible videos there, when we make an investment the reality is not in accordance with what is in the video.

There are a lot of platforms that reviews crypto projects before they eventually launch their IEO or ICO.. You can directly search for it on Google. Sometimes some of these reviews can be paid reviews and will not talk about the demerits of the project. So you have conduct your own research yourself. You can also search for the project here on Bitcointalk. Someone here might have some useful information regarding the project that you need. But you should take note not to invest what you are not able to loose. As a newbie you can start with little investments so as not to put all your eggs in one basket.

Personal research as a beginner is very important for someone to carry out before investing in a particular place not to fall in the hands of scammer.

Actually the forum doesn't serve as an investment advisor to anyone especially when altcoins are been brought into the picture as majority of the active high ranked user here are strong bitcoin enthusiast. (Decided not to use the other word). The famous advice here is 'buy bitcoin', and if you can stick to it you'll be better off them most of us chasing the alts and ending up regretting.

The forum serve as a host to all project as there isn't much the forum can do to prevent scam project from taking advantage of forum participating. Sure we have active scam bursters putting in their best to keep the forum off scammers but most times they are a bit late in exposing the fraudsters.

Irrespective of the advice you get, it's still advisable to do your personal research, you learn more and boost your self confidence when your personal decision turns out with a positive outcome.

Yeah, cryptocurrency "reviews" are pretty worthless. It's money they're reviewing, which automatically attracts a lot of scammers with big bags of money available for possible offers and promotions. It's much better to check the project yourself if you really care about avoiding a loss. I remember there were a few review websites that talked positively about BitConnect. See how that ended up.

Before investing knowing about the subject is more important and where knowing about crypto currency and its pros and cons are extremely important. It is good to invest and trade in it but knowing the risk is also quite vital as those who cannot afford to lose money should then think about something because volatility in crypto is very high.

maybe he is asking if he did the right on investing in the cryptocurrencies he mentioned and also if there are videos that can help him decide on what coins to invest more, i also got confused by his post.
My very simple advice to you is since you are just starting investing try to invest money that you can afford to lose, start with little and experiement with it so that you won't regret losing anything big in the future

If you want to learn about how to invest completely then you can see the tutorial on Youtube I think there is complete and you understand what you mean, and this forum also provides a lot of education about investing and trading that you need, just click search on this forum you will find it too.
And also take the time to read and understand it.

It's also good that you have invested in well-known coins and if you want quick profits, choose DeFi coins that are currently busy talking about, many DeFi coins that are on the hype, you can use them like UNI tokens which continue to increase day by day.

I find mining to be a better option.

think about the following:

you take $1000 and buy bitcoin for the price of $11000 and leave it in your wallet where you have your private keys and do hodl until December next year. you will have no headaches and have a better chance that in december next year the price of bitcoin will be more than $15,000 or even more than $20,000

While in mining there is a risk that the site will close or not pay dividends because of the difficulty, I remember that it was this explanation that genesis mining gave when the bitcoin price dropped to $4000.

ripple Is the worst investment anyone can make

Although nearly everything is available on the Internet, it can be difficult if a novice wants to find the exact ways to invest in the cryptocurrency market. Many people have been here for a long time, but up to now, they still cannot find a suitable way.
If you want to invest in the cryptocurrency market, it is best to check out the forums and make your own direction.

to be fair that can not be called "mining" because people who use "cloud mining" services aren't really mining, they are just giving their money to someone else who promised them they were actually mining but the reality of all cloud mining services for many years has been that they were Ponzi schemes. some might have had some real hashrate but that doesn't change their Ponzi structure since that has been the only way for them to make any profiit.

The sphere, which available for everyone is a cryptocurrency. Also, there is more options than trade stocks or just hold.
If you are living in the Europe, I can recommend you Gekkoin project. Minimum of the investments is 100 euro. With it, you can make deposit with different % and guarantees. Also, it could be good way to store money to save it during the pandemic.

As a beginner in the crpyto community I would recommend investing with a long term perspective. Instead of jumping straight into trading risky alt coins, I would go for a less risky approach. To get into cryptos it's best just to buy and hold some coins. I would go look for coins with a strong track record. Also holding at least a small fraction of your crypto portfolio in Bitcoins can't be wrong. Long term the bitcoin price will keep going up.

You should also avoid some fake websites, always remind yourself that scammers are always there and they will try their best just to steal money from other people. Always choose to invest in some legit website just like what other members have mentioned. Just know the basics of cryptocurrency first. Always observe the movement of the market it will also help you to earn good profit from investing. Things will go rough from investing, especially if you don't put extra effort and time on it.

Financial markets are a bit volatile at the moment, resulting in higher volatility for crypto markets too. US Election coming up, FinCEN files were leaked, and the corona pandemic is still ongoing. So if you have some money to invest I would recommend to not buy everything at once. Better to spread out your investments over a couple of weeks and buy every week a bit. Transaction costs will be higher like this, but you might be able to get more favourable prices. I wouldn't recommend selling any holdingy at the moment, better to just hold and sit out any potential sell out.

Many people suffer financially because of the corona virus you just have to be more discriminating with the help you render toward other people. It is possible to solve both the problems to some extent newcomers can invest. Long-term investment is good if you have enough capital even if you wait a long time for this the risk will be less. The amount of investment should be increased considering the market well.

Many have given thousands of ways to go as newborn in cryptocurrency investment, i just want to add some few slots into the machine. Don't invest into a project that promise a guarantee higher reward which look unrealistic, don't rush into any project without running a background check on the project and team especially, also, you can seek assistance when needed in the forum for advise on a project you choose to invest.

Well, it is nice that you started investing in cryptocurrency and I expect that you have the prior knowledge in investment to avoid losses, when it comes to materials or information you need to gain more knowledge and techniques in investments, there are many people that their expertise is inline to investment might be as well search for the legit people that will offer courses about that field. But if you don't want to pay for courses then search for legit and valid blogs or tutorial videos on the internet, now a days many experts give free tutorials, just always remember to look for validity first because there are many scammers out there.

There is always a first in everything. Good for you.

As a general rule number 1 in investing (I always try to give). Remember, Don’t invest more than you can afford to lose.

Furthermore, Never buy/sell on an impulse.

Bitcoin is not a win-win situation. It has many risks. The amazing returns are only for those who learn how to invest in Bitcoin/altcoins properly. You have to stay updated on the latest bitcoin news and work on your bitcoin investment strategy regularly until you are completely satisfied.

You can check our humble guide on how exactly to invest in Bitcoin in 2020 (https://cryptomaniaks.com/how-to-invest-in-bitcoin). It is quite detailed, and can probably take a few positives.

Good Luck.

Bravo Mr. I suggest you should have a little knowledge of crypto currency before investment.
Secondly don't go on any blogs or websites you see out there. Our learned elders are ever ready to direct and assist you. Lastly focusing on one is better than going through all at the same time. To get proper knowledge.
Good luck.

It would be best if you'll discover it all by yourself actually but still, you need to be careful and atleast find someone who can guide you. It's not really bad that you invested on the famous ones like crypto and bitcoin. Afterwards, you just need to monitor the price changes so that you'll have the idea when's the best time to buy or sell. There are still lots of crypto out there, don't get yourself stucked on the famous one. Find some other potential coins so that if ever the famous one falls down, you have a back up plan.
