Title: Bitcoin for Christmas
Post by: GreatArkansas on September 27, 2020, 04:18:01 AM
We are already in "ber" months which it is a sign that we are fast approaching on Christmas day which is on December 25.
I have this on my mind that I'll start to prepare my present or gifts to some of my friends and family.

I want something related to Bitcoin like I will give a present that has related to Bitcoin, like some Angpao on Bitcoins? Paper wallets with Bitcoin inside? Or anything else.
So I am here asking for some opinion of yours, what's your suggestion for a present or gift for our loved ones for this upcoming Christmas?

Make sure that they know what to do with it. Your concept of gift is pretty good. That is the only problem that I can see, whether they know how to use the wallets and use it to spend something.

i used to think giving bitcoin away like this to anybody would be  cool but nowadays if i give someone bitcoin that person should know about bitcoin already or at least had shown some interest in the past. otherwise i think giving bitcoin to those who haven't even heard about bitcoin like this means it will either be forgotten or they will go ahead and read some bad online articles about what to do with bitcoin and end up with a bad experience.

in any case when i give bitcoin as gift i do it as a paper wallet with some small summary printed on the back alongside some good links such as bitcoin.org choose your wallet link.

Yeah, this is also a problem.
But what I want to achieve is somehow they will know or start become curious about what Bitcoin is. Like, my present to them is a way to they will introduce to Bitcoin. Just like I am advertising Bitcoin thru Christmas present.

If you really want to poke their attention then give them a hardware wallet. Choose Trezor instead of Ledger as much as possible because its design is more intriguing (you know, they might think Ledger was just a simple flash drive). After giving it, I'm sure they will ask you about what does that "car key stuff" can do ;D. And there you have it! Their curiosity kicks in and that's the time for you to introduce bitcoin. I just hope they will like the concept and adopt the tech in the long run.

I have tried giving away some Bitcoin physical coin and it works like a charm, most of them sent me a message asking what is that all about and some of them really got into bitcoin when I told them more about bitcoin and what it is. You can try this one.

Bitcoin is the best gift that anyone can have but to keep it safe and secure you need to understand the concept. It is better to find out before from your friends and family member whether they are aware of Bitcoin. If they are not then it should be your responsibility to make them understand what you have gifted them after Christmas.

If it was me then I would gift them a paper wallet and a Bitcoin memento

I have seen similar post related to Bitcoin as a gift, and I think it's a very cool idea. I would say the gift 'related to Bitcoin', should depend on the level of knowledge the person has about what Bitcoin and digital assets are;
• Someone who is completely new to the crypto space would benefit from the hard or soft copy of a good book which teaches the fundamentals of bitcoin. How interested they are in it would show how interested they would be in holding actual Bitcoin.
• For a more experienced person, maybe a hardware wallet or some other Bitcoin merchandise that they would value. (A hardware wallet may be quite confusing for a beginner as they would need to begin from the basics before they can understand what it does, and there's no guarantee they would be interested after).

Actual bitcoins is a good idea, but it is better if the person values it as Bitcoin and not simply for it's fiat equivalent, in which case you would have been better off giving them some cash.

I personally don't want to spend more than $50 for something that is not yet clear whether they'll use it or not. If they think it is related to Bitcoin and get turn off because of that then the wallet would be wasted. Maybe use Opendime or Satochip that is cheaper instead?

IMO I'd definitely send out paper wallet with fancy decorations and guide how to convert their bitcoin into some money (maybe give them 1 mBTC or more).

I like the idea of using Bitcoin as a gift. There are many ways to do it. You can buy a Bitcoin gift card from bit4coin.net or create a paper wallet you wrote about. Or if you are ready to make an expensive and luxury gift, buy a hardware wallet and put some coins on it. Bitcoin is a perfect gift because it can be cashed out one rainy day ;)

Christmas is 3 months ahead and you are preparing your gifts now? This is kinda crazy.
Bitcoin is not in a "ber" month(I guess you mean bear),the price is pretty stable.I expect the BTC price to go under 10K USD somewhere around December, but I don't care that much.
Anyway,I'm not a big fan of giving and receiving gifts, paper wallets with BTC inside doesn't seem like a good idea, especially if your friends and family don't know anything about BTC.
Anything with a cool Bitcoin logo on it should do the work.

I would never gift Bitcoin or anything Bitcoin-related to anyone who isn't good with technology in general - there's just so much that can go wrong. And even if they are good with tech, they still can have a bad time with it - high transactions fees, exchanges that demand KYC, lots of phishing and so on - you'd really need to guide them step-by-step all the time, which means that this gift turns into a chore. Gifts are supposed to bring happiness, not create difficulties.

I think its a great idea to give something like that, especially if they are younger members of your family. Who knows, one day 0.001 BTC might be worth thousands of dollars so it can be kinda savings for them.

How about merch that has a bitcoin logo on it? but the receiver even he's not a bitcoin, he might be targeted by a wrench attack. But maybe a bitcoin sock would do.  ;D

I think just teach your receiver to create a wallet and send some mbtcs on it, I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

So you've mentioned "advertising". If I may suggest, I'd simply go to a merchandise with the logo of bitcoin on it. It could be a shirt, or a mug, or a cap. Just to catch their attention. If or assuming they don't have any ideas about it, then they'll be intrigued on what the logo is about. Upon asking, then that's your time to explain it to to them. Just the basics, it's pros and cons. Something like that. ;D

If they really want to learn and are that interested, then maybe you can start giving them even small amount of btc for starters. Totally up to you though, op. :)

I think it's a good idea to give something related to bitcoin to a relative, I gave a friend a bitcoin coin made of silver before and he loved it.
However, you should only give it to people who know what bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are, not giving anything related to bitcoin to those who do not understand it.

Yes, Christmas is already around the corner and some people are already thinking about gift-giving. We can't really control the spirit of christmas amidst the crisis that we are facing. This may be an unusual christmas season but we still need to be thankful and continue being positive and gives hope and happiness to all the people that surrounds us.
As a Crypto enthusiast, the thoughts of giving Bitcoins as a gift is a great idea for me. However, not everyone knows its value and usage. So, I guess, you need to educate, teach and introduce those persons that you want to receive this great gift, to Bitcoin world so that they will be aware and will not be confuse upon handling it.

Yeah it's obvious that December is approaching, people give out gifts to their lover once base on their financial predicament because many people have it in mind to give out gifts but due to lack of financial capability causes them not showcase the love them have to their lover once,
I know I'm not up to one year in the forum to know if people showcase interest of love to the forum members during Christmas irrespective that not all countries celebrate Christmas
I have it mind to celebrate Christmas in forum with the little one I have

Your idea isn't bad. But most likely, if they don't know what bitcoin is, (and you don't write inside), you're probably destroying the coins  ;D
If I were you, I would write on a paper the seed phrase (which would be nice if it had "christmas" in it  ;) ) and after I wrapped it, I would write "(Keep it secret and safe!)"

Instead of seed phrase you could simply write the private key on a paper like this:

https://cryptortrust.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Bitcoin_paper_wallet.jpg
(You can make these paper wallets on bitaddress.org) (https://www.bitaddress.org/)

It is nicer than the seed phrase in my opinion. Except from explaining bitcoin, you will have to explain how the seed phrase works as well...

If I remember correctly, someone had sent 1BTC to Bill Gates back in 2012-13? What a waste of time money  :P

Well i think it's a good idea for me to receiven or give bitcoin or any kind of crypto currency instead of paper money of cash why? Well as we all know we still facing a pandemic and in the culture of philippines, kids go around to gather money or what we call "Pamamasko". So giving money on form of crypto will be safer and faster but the sad part is that not many people know about this industry specially to use crypto wallet.

Angpao with Bitcoins or Envelope with some paper wallet inside of it would be good.If you are really tending for them to learn about Bitcoin then curiosity will surely comes next when they do know on what they had received from you specially if the amount inside of those wallets are really that somewhat extravagant or on the generous side of yours.  :).When it comes to present on holiday season then it doesnt matter on what you do give
but since you do like for it to be Bitcoin related then that idea of yours would be already a good one since it does have value inside, you can also opt for some bitcoin souvenirs like simple shirts, artwork
or anything that had crypto theme on it.
For now in my part when it comes to gifts and presents this upcoming December then i might still stick to traditional ones using up fiat, maybe soon i would make the same step as yours.

Where are you located though? Maybe you can check this two options.

https://opendime.com/

Instead of paper wallets, I think those two are good options, although it might require some technical and crypto security knowledge.

how about a bitcoin collectable coins or other types of bitcoin collectables(not sure what other types there are). although it would only be appreciated if the person you're giving it to already knows bitcoin and also interested in it. but if you are going to give gifts to your family or relatives that don't know about bitcoin or interested in it, it would be better to just give them other types of gifts rather than bitcoin.

It’s never too early to think about what we’re going to give someone for Christmas or New Year, and this year is specific because of the pandemic and the possible new lockdown, so buying gifts might be more difficult at a time when everyone is heading to malls en masse.

And as for gifts in the form of Bitcoin, it is my personal opinion that something like this should be given only to someone who shows some interest in cryptocurrencies or has at least some basic prior knowledge. For others, it would be much better to give them a book on the subject of Bitcoin, because gaining knowledge about something is an ideal start for using it successfully.

I would like to give Bitcoins for Christmas but I see 2 problems on it.
One is that, I'm the only one who is engaged in cryptocurrencies here in our place. Second is that, I don't have enough Bitcoins to give as of this moment :D.

Instead of me giving Bitcoins to them, I would like to see them giving me anything that is related to cryptocurrency like some Physical coins or collectibles at least :D. I want to have at least one collectible until the end of the year :D.

I do have the experience of both receiving and giving away bitcoins and as gift in real life. Four years ago for my birthdays, my girlfriend gave a letter with beautiful word and private key to a bitcoin wallet address. Actually, is this how I started learning about bitcoin.
By giving that letter she gave me 3 gifts. 1. Letter with beautiful words. 2. Made me to learn about bitcoin 3. Gave me some money. Maybe this can be the most beautiful gift ever, that's why I gave her the same gift one year after that.
So, giving away paper wallets plus some nice words can be the best idea.

If your family and friends weren't aware of bitcoin and it's goodness, then try to create separate wallet for each and everyone. These days it is quite easy to engrave the QR codes on keychains. Do it and present to each and everyone with few dollars in the wallet. This might seem very low, but from this some can get interested in using bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

I will not deny that it is really a good idea! But I would prefer to give it to a relative who has the knowledge of what can he really do with it. I have someone in mind but I hope they would spend the time to learn about how can they really use it. However, Christmas is the time for children, and children would never allot time just to get their present in an e-wallet. They would prefer gifts such as toys, clothes, and of course fiat cash. So if I would try to use this idea, I would prefer cousins and etc. But it can be use with birthdays too! Can work with friends whom I occasionally talk about btc but never really tried to use the currency, at least I gave them the chance.

This kind of gift is really appreciated by the people who are using bitcoin but if you don't have any kind of interest with the use of bitcoin for sure the recipient will ignore this kind of gift.
Right now I'm expecting my circle of friends they are going to gift a bitcoin because they are just lately appreciated the use of this coin.

Bitcoin as a gift for Christmas is a very special, right now I'm accepting advice gift of bitcoin, anyone? Lol just kidding.

I think today one of the best Christmas gifts is no causes of coronavirus. Even I didn't receive any kind of bitcoin just kicked off the virus.

I would. When you give someone a gift, you don't think of all the things that could go wrong with it. At least most people don't.
For instance, when you give someone a phone you don't think they could drop and break it or get brain cancer from calling people all day long. When you give a kid a console, you don't think what will happen if he gets addicted to gaming. All things are meant to be used, not abused!
I wouldn't give a gun to a child, or a snowboard to an 80 year old granny, but most people are capable to learn the basics of bitcoin.

This idea of giving gifts using bitcoin is nice and new for others so it'll be exciting, so I kinda like this one. However, make sure that the people you'll be giving this kind of presents have an idea of what to do about it. If they really don't know about bitcoin, it'll be a lot of work if you'll continue it because you'll also have to tell them or teach them what to do.

If you aim it to introduce bitcoin, then maybe you can also consider giving tangible things that have bitcoin or something on it, I guess? But you can push your idea since there's still a lot of time unless you're willing to teach them what to do about it. Maybe you can start doing it with your closest friends and family first if you really wanted to try that idea.

Whatever the decide on getting, I would recommend trying to get something fun for them instead of a collectible that they are not going to appreciate unless they're already into Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies. As for paper wallets, this can be an okay way of getting someone interested in Bitcoin, especially if its already loaded with a small amount to boot. They might be intrigued by redeeming it, and tackles one of the common problems Bitcoin; People don't know that you can redeem it for "real" fiat currencies. If you provide some instructions along with the paper wallet on how to redeem it could intrigue them enough that they start looking into Bitcoin itself. Although, from my observations, people really don't know what to do with Paper wallets when they're introduced to Bitcoin.

Explaining that Bitcoin is usually a paperless bank that you are in total control of, and then handing them a paper wallet can be quite confusing.

and i am also planning to send Angpao to some one close to me since most of them are also using our local wallets.
even with small amount at least they will be proud of having some Bitcoins or other alts supported by our wallets to have in their own hands.

How about this,
A fake gold plated physical bitcoin + a bitcoin paper wallet, inside a luxury black box.
And inside the box, you should put something like intro to bitcoin (bitcoin101), fun fact, or trivia.

The gold plating doesn't gonna be valued. If it is a piece of true gold, atleast it can be used as a collateral. Whenever we present a gift, it should give happiness or it needs to be useful. Based on the outlook the gift seems to be worthy, but this isn't the perfect value for money in my view.

The focus here is the bitcoin paper wallet, not the fake physical bitcoin.
Since casasicus bitcoin is expensive, I am thinking about the cheap version of it.
I have searched on online marketplaces, a fake bitcoin price is cheap, around $1.5 - $2.5

You are too quick to think of Christmas gifts, but it doesn't matter, that's good, means you really love your family.

I can't give the best Christmas gift suggestions that you want to give to your family, because: I don't know about you in detail: children, wife, brother, mother, father, obviously if you want to give some gifts with Bitcoin embellishments or logos.

I want to show some gifts that I think are good for anyone who wants to give Christmas gifts with the Bitcoin logo or it could be for girls with gold necklaces with the Bitcoin logo, boys can wear clothes and so on.

@GreatArkansas, take a look below, some of the Bitcoin gift models, maybe you can prepare earlier.

There are too many things to consider before you will decide which gift that related to Bitcoin to give this Yuletide season. That isn't a bad idea and it might be remarkable to them and keep this as a treasure for them. Buts it should be techy on blockchain technology or which means have an idea what is Bitcoin and how does it work.

Your gift it could be,
  • Bitcoin physical coin by Casascius.com (https://www.casascius.com/), a souvenir.
  • A Bitcoin wallet with Bitcoin inside(worth of hundred bucks)I prefer to use Hardware wallets (Trezor or Ledger), a paper wallet is very crucial to redeem.
  • Sports Apparel wear that has a logo design of Bitcoin.
  • Most affordable that I wanted to give this Yuletide season, is Bitcoin tented gold KeyChain.

Reminds me of last year. Unfortunately, the gift I gave to my uncles, aunts and cousins have turned to shitcoin because of the CEO's inactivity and dump of tokens. However, they didn't mind that because they still have no idea how it works. Not sure for this year though, and it may not be possible in my area because the ban in mass gathering is still in place and borders are restricted. There's no way for my family to go out of town celebrating Christmas with them.

If I had some blessings incoming before Christmas (in the form of cryptos or so), I would give Bitcoin or Ethereum to my family members aside from material stuff.

Well there are exchanges and wallets that has this feature called RED PACKETS. But for me, I will just send it directly to their wallets. Straightforward, no more bling bling.

You should of course know first if certain individuals you wish to gift with anything related to Bitcoin is worthy to receive it in a sense that they will effectively make use of it and have enough greater knowledge to receive such kind of gift. It will be more likely to give Angpao with Bitcoin amount on it into those people you know that are into using Bitcoin for it will be much appreciated since people are doing everything to the extent of obtaining Bitcoin. For those people that are still not into Bitcoin, I guess it will be just enough giving them out merchandises with Bitcoin logo such as shirts, wallets and other stuffs to serve as souvenirs in such way they might at least be able to recognize Bitcoin and possible to get curious learning about it after all.

Make sure that they know what to do with it. Your concept of gift is pretty good. That is the only problem that I can see, whether they know how to use the wallets and use it to spend something.
Yeah, this is also a problem.
But what I want to achieve is somehow they will know or start become curious about what Bitcoin is. Like, my present to them is a way to they will introduce to Bitcoin. Just like I am advertising Bitcoin thru Christmas present.

What if we try to give them the things that they want, and tell them that they can achieve it when they invest in bitcoin to become successful.

Also making a bitcoin logo is some apparels will do, in clothes, bags, caps, and etc., will make other people have an idea that bitcoin existed.

I think that's an effective advertisement of bitcoin that will really help the bitcoin community to become larger.

Maybe do some quick tutorials to make a quick approach to them about Bitcoin? As long as they heard about money, they are really interested no matter how hard it is to get into it :p
Just a small note beside of the paper wallet probably are enough to teach them how to get into Bitcoin.

I think the most logical gift that a crypto enthusiast would receive is the bitcoin hard wallet with few bitcoins inside  ;D This would be logical if you know that the person you will be giving doesn't have an existing hard wallet in his possession, Casascius physical coin would be great too. It's just that the loaded coin is a bit expensive. I never received a crypto-related gift ever in my life, Someday I know someone who knows me personally would be giving me some gift that is related to crypto. It would be the greatest gift I will possibly get if it happens.

I wouldn't give a gun to a child, or a snowboard to an 80 year old granny, but most people are capable to learn the basics of bitcoin.

Most people aren't using their devices effectively and often make serious mistakes. You need to be motivated and put some effort to use Bitcoin effectively, and many people will choose the path of least resistance, which is clicking on the first link they see, which can be some phishing or just bad info.

I'm not saying that anyone who will try to use Bitcoin will fail, but the risk is pretty high, so Bitcoin is not a safe gift, and bad gifts can spoil relationships. Also, gifting Bitcoin might look like you're trying to lure someone into this community, it's like gifting someone a religious book or something like that. Some people will view it as poor taste.

Firstly, the comparison between Bitcoin and religious gifts is very strange. Secondly, a person must understand that such a gift is not suitable for everyone, and if he knows the person well, he can figure out and understand whether it is worth giving him bitcoin.

I think using bitcoin got be the thing because of the pandemic, or could be the future way to give bonus or money.

At this time of pandemic its better to stay at home so at Christmas you could give money to use relatives using bitcoin so that their is no need for you actually go in their house and give them a physical money. At some point is great because you will have the opportunity have bonding to your relative but at this time of pandemic its better to stay home to be safe from the virus.

Fiat money is still a good choice as a gift in Christmas but i believe that bitcoin is going to be the future of currency.

How about going in Collectibles (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=217.0)? there are various choices you can purchase there and they'll just ship it to you. Those physical bitcoins that has loaded bitcoin on it. I think they're going to be an amazing gift and will be much appreciated by your relative if you'll give it as a gift.

Well, the best for me is Bitcoin that I can make a profit and the wallet that can I safely store on it. Giftcards also the best option or if they don't know first the bitcoin, --you can gift them a dress that has a printed bitcoin logo at the back and front of the shirt. Christmas season is the spirit of giving, then it is up to you if what you can afford to give as a gift to them.
How about if you have a friend that also a crypto enthusiast, can you give him an exchange account like Binance that has a huge amount of balance inside? --Material or unseen gift, priceless or expensive gift, that is the same. As long as you give a gift that comes from your heart and it is heartily given.

Well, a famous celebrity in my country also gets coronavirus even though is always at home, and he suspected that he got the virus in deliveries because there are times because of excitement he didn't do sanitation.

But, still, it's not a valid reason to go outside and go somewhere that has a lot of people just because you going to get the virus anyway. If that's the logic there is reason to wear a mask or face shield at all.

As we know there are still many people who don't know Bitcoin, so if we want to give Christmas gifts related to Bitcoin, first make sure
the person understands Bitcoin. Because it would be a waste if we give Bitcoin, but it turns out that the person doesn't understand Bitcoin.
If that person really understands Bitcoin, especially if that person is indeed active in the crypto world, they will very happy to be given
a Christmas gift in the form of Bitcoin.

I am planning actually to give out some personalized objects that has bitcoin logo on it or personalized clay keychain with cute paperwallet inside. Since  some of my family members are also holding some bitcoins. Or, will just simply surprise them on that very special day like sending them  satoshis direct to their bitcoin wallet.
Though, any gifts is much appreciated by the receiver because it's the thought that counts. But, giving out some love with unique items to your loved ones is indeed a happiness that can not be replaced.

I've never thought that using bitcoin to the Angpao is a good idea to give cryptocurrency to your love once and instead of money because it's different to the traditional way of giving money every Christmas. When I was a child I really like to get Angpao but now I have problems also what should I give this coming Christmas to my love once and I want to be the difference for this now and this concept is what I want too the problems is how can I do that because my family does not know about crypto-only some of them.

I try also to think something new that possible to gives to my love once that is suitable for all I want this Christmas will be very special because of my earnings in bitcoin I can give them what they want.

Unique/personalized items would be the best thing, IMO. You cannot just buy that specific, customized gift. It has some effort to it. Regards to whomever, you are going to give it to, it is ideal to have a challenge for that person with that personalized stuff. Check that if they can solve it with the gift and maybe they would enjoy it. Perhaps a mixture of word hunting from a couple of words and let them understand what crypto is as well? At the same time.

Are you sure that someone who will receive the gift knows about cryptocurrency? at least he knows how to use it.
if he does not know, my advice is you better choose another gift,
but if he knows, you can give him a bitcoin gift which you pack in a big box, which is a collection of random code phrase bitcoin wallet.

There may be many obstacles, because we can be sure that not all of them already understand the use of crypto, if they know crypto maybe. There is better that the ordinary is often done without reducing the meaning of the big day, the important thing is the gift. but is it just because want to look more different than usual? I hope that is not a top priority.

If your family and friends weren't aware of bitcoin and it's goodness, then try to create separate wallet for each and everyone. These days it is quite easy to engrave the QR codes on keychains. Do it and present to each and everyone with few dollars in the wallet. This might seem very low, but from this some can get interested in using bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

https://i.imgur.com/jwBLpHo.jpg
Are you the one who created that KeyChain mate?i one to have that as present for my friends and family that is crypto users.
i actually planning to sent them crypto coins but since there is a cute little thing like that,i wish to have those,Mind PM me mate about where can i purchase that kind of keychain.
or any crypto engrave that is presentable as gift.

I'd avoid that, since most people (ignorant mostly) actually think that anyone who owns Bitcoin is instantly rich or something, heck they may not even know what to do with it if you gave them. If you really want to though, a paper wallet should be enough, but add more details or designs that would give you a kind of like brand like atmosphere, making them think that "yup, it came from that guy indeed" kind of thing. Plus, add a simple instruction on how to actually handle Bitcoin, if you have the time, add how to buy and sell BTC, as well as the benefits of hodling you can think of. It'd also be awesome if you did a keychain or maybe just a customized item with a qrcode with it (a chibi model if you have the time, qr code below).

I think your idea is very good for this, but if you want to give a Bitcoin gift to your friend or relative you better pretend to ask them first if they understand Bitcoin and how to use it, if they find out then you can give a gift Bitcoin for him, but I think if you want to give a special gift better give them what they really like, that way the gifts you give will be even more special and they will be very happy and surprised by the gifts you give.

Christmas is really a big and great day to send gifts to someone. If you are planning to give something which is related to bitcoin, try to give them some books that includes topics about, blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, bitcoin, decentralization and anything that talks about that. Giving them a source of knowledge will do if they spend their time reading on it. I prefer that type of sharing knowledge and idea so that they can start as early as they can, and for me that's the best gift.

So I am here asking for some opinion of yours, what's your suggestion for a present or gift for our loved ones for this upcoming Christmas?

Although its good suggestion but provably not everyone knows how to use the paper wallet correctly and I think it will confuse newbies who will received a gift in that way. Also our wallet provider have an angpao option but it was converted to php but I don't know if this is possible to btc since I never tried this on btc.

Here read this for more information about the angpao https://coins.ph/blog/red-envelopes-are-here-angpao/

That's was a great idea indeed. If I am the one who will receive a gift that is related to Bitcoin, perhaps I would prefer to have a hardware wallet with funds on it, a small amount would be enough.
I also want to have a Bitcoin coin as a collection, it would be nice if I will have a lot of different coins. Bitcoin merch is quite good as well such as clothes with Bitcoin imprinted on it.

How's it feels when someone gives you 1BTC during Christmas? I'm wondering if someone will give it to me in exchange for one piece of pizza...
Maybe it was just a dream and seems to be impossible.

I've planned to give some BTC's to my parents (not 1BTC). This is also a way to thanks them and lets them know that they are wrong thinking about Bitcoin did nothing and just a waste before. To let them feel that I'd never regret my decision investing Bitcoin and proud to be a part of this crypto community.

Bitcoin or other crypto may be a  good alternatives as your relatives or friends can do receive present without any actual contacts.

Giving a Christmas gift is very special to a person who can receive it. And giving a bitcoin as a gift is a great idea to spread the news that there is a bitcoin exist in crypto space and it could be a way to teach bitcoin to others. But of course, many people still didn't know about it so maybe mush better to give a gift with a symbol of bitcoin and once they ask what is the meaning and importance of that symbol then that is your very special chance to open up to them about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

I agree as bitcoin is still not applicable to some people or kids these days. A lot of people do not know what is bitcoin or do not know how to use bitcoin even until today. Even in some countries where technology is limited people in that country are not exposed to bitcoin and the value it. But I think it makes sense in the future as kids these days do not understand the value of bitcoin because they are not investors or don't have the knowledge on bitcoin. As people continue to adopt in cryptocurrency and bitcoin I think I could see bitcoin as a way of a gift at Christmas because it was just the same value as fiat money. I think we could say that it is the futuristic way to send your gift at Christmas.

You can use paper wallets or put some coins in a digital wallet.
This idea is also very good and can make the culture of using bitcoin more understandable to the community.
It also makes the use of bitcoin more understandable to the people of the community that bitcoin can even be used as a birthday present.

What I can think of is a ORIGAMI-styled paper wallet with Christmas motives or just a carton-made with xmas drawings would make a great gift IMO.
To add to this gift I would prepare a beginner-friendly ppt or pdf presentation/guide or maybe some tutorial on how to buy something with bitcoin. Be creative - create a treasure hunt or a game. e.g. If you buy a shirt with bitcoin you will be able to unlock the riddle, smth like that. :)

Anyway, I think that Bitcoin is suitable present for someone who is already familiar with it and knows how to handle it. It's not good for your kids or grandparents.

The pandemic definitely has something to do why it feels that we've gone through 9 months quickly.

To OP, maybe you should try giving a hardware wallet that has 1000 USD (if you have the capability haha) worth of BTC inside. It will definitely pique their interest to why would you put that huge amount in some flash drive looking thing. It will make them interested and search about BTC if it's your intention.

The time is flying and here we go again, talking about Bitcoin and Christmas. Seems that some also expect that Santa will bring Bitcoin price pump as a present but I don't think this will happen this year.
Anyway, I think that Bitcoin is suitable present for someone who is already familiar with it and knows how to handle it. It's not good for your kids or grandparents.
Why might this be bad for children? Usually children are very good at understanding and understanding new technologies.

I think it's a very good idea to give Bitcoin as a Christmas gift, it will make Bitcoin even more popular. At the same time promoting
and educating the people closest to us about Bitcoin. I've also given Bitcoin gifts as Christmas present to family and close friends
since 2018. But I give Bitcoin gifts only to people who already understand Bitcoin, so it can be useful for them. Because those who
understand Bitcoin already know how to spend Bitcoin.

It is logical to give bitcoin to those people who know about bitcoin, but this does not make it more popular. But in any case, this is a great gift for those people who know what bitcoin is and who can use it normally.

-snip-maybe you should try giving a hardware wallet that has 1000 USD (if you have the capability haha) worth of BTC inside. It will definitely pique their interest to why would you put that huge amount in some flash drive looking thing. It will make them interested and search about BTC if it's your intention.
Good idea about Christmas gifts using a Hardware wallet containing bitcoins.
This will tell your family or relatives about the technology used by bitcoin, including the hardware wallet. Hardware that has the highest security compared to other wallets.

But before that they also have to provide education about what bitcoin is and how it works so that they won't feel confused. Christmas is a special day, therefore the gifts given must also be special and memorable.

-snip-
For OP, regardless of the type of Christmas gift given, (in this discussion about bitcoin-themed gifts), it will provide a unique experience for other people, hardware wallets, paper wallets, or bitcoin-themed accessories are only symbolic, the most important thing is how they understand it. and can use bitcoin technology, so that bitcoin will be more popular.

Christmas not give impact anything with bitcoin will going down or up, always pass  Christmas moment bitcoin keep the same price and not give strong how to make bitcoin and altcoin will get party during  Christmas day, maybe not any one will focus with bitcoin during Christmas and keep enjoy their party then invest or hold bitcoin. Waiting next Christmas what happen with bitcoin price later, will on the top price or not giving impact for bitcoin on Christmas day to higher price, nice to know how three months later with bitcoin and altcoin during Christmas get positive side or bitcoin and altcoin will get negative moment.

I suggest give them something that would teach them how to use (make transaction) Bitcoin with a small amount of Bitcoin on a paper wallet.
Guide them on how to make it grow and how to invest in crypto make sure that they would also avoid the scam sites and all the other investment schemes.

in my country you can send a money to other people with the use of angpao or ampao and this is a traditional gift use by the elders to the children as a gift on Christmas not only in Christmas even on other especial events. Also with this culture they already implemented to the wallet which is the coin.ph and you can easily transfer funds as a gift with a message is this good right?

But I think if the children will receive this they don't have any idea what is the bitcoin and what are the purpose of it
Only it will become valuable to the people knows it.

I always care to present traditional gifts for Christmas to my loved ones. I think gifting bitcoin is not suitable for the spirit of Christmas. Maybe, the underlying reason why I think that way is related to the small number of Christian people living in my country. I am a little bit stranger to the Christmas culture. By the way, it is very pleasing to see this issue discussed, although there is more time until Christmas.  :)

So I am here asking for some opinion of yours, what's your suggestion for a present or gift for our loved ones for this upcoming Christmas?

Well, it would be a new and wonderful gift but if they have no idea on what Bitcoin can do, I suggest to stick to more material items. Receiving Bitcoin as a gift is one of the best things ever to people who can appreciate it so you will have that satisfaction of giving.

Bitcoin will be very difficult to give as Christmas gift to your love ones especially if they don't have a single idea if what it is but still I am thinking the same even if my family doesn't know much about bitcoin or cryptocurrencies.

Maybe I will consider it as my guide for them to be involve in cryptocurrencies by giving a good amount of bitcoin as Christmas gift but I will not teach them on how to get it instead I  want them to withdraw it by their own so they will surely try to research about how to withdraw bitcoin.

^ Because probably the main reason is they are not crypto enthusiasts and traditional gifts will good to them but if the person who receives bitcoin is a crypto enthusiast then, that is not the reason they will not make happy once they receive bitcoin as a gift. Bitcoin has value like money, no one will probably refuse if someone received worth of million in your national currency to your bitcoin on their wallet address. Christmas for the Christian culture is a way of giving to their loved one and everyone has their own way of giving any valuable or something that can be made them happy.

Soon Christmas will come, If we celebrate Christmas from now on have thought about giving a memorable gift,
especially for someone we love must give the best. And Bitcoin could be the perfect Christmas gift in my opinion.
As well as educating our loved ones to know more about Bitcoin, that way one day we can inherit the Bitcoin we
have to the people we love.

Make sure that they know what to do with it. Your concept of gift is pretty good. That is the only problem that I can see, whether they know how to use the wallets and use it to spend something.

And also I'd mention make sure your relatives are 1. somewhat technically savvy and 2. somewhat interested in bitcoin (perhaps they mentioned it before)

I wouldn't be surprised to give out Bitcoin to someone who couldn't care less and they end up just throwing it in the garbage because they don't understand it (I'm sure it's happened plenty of times before - regrettably)

*[All I want for christmas is bitcoin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6iqZmBrIsQ)]*
I believe a paper wallet is one of the best gifts to give to a friend who is also into cryptocurrency and bitcoin as a Christmas gift because my friend also gave me one of these as a birthday present with bitcoins inside it. You can also provide a friend a collectible bitcoin and other coins that you can find one on eBay and other online shopping sites.

I might send Angpao like what I used to during christmas. Good thing our local bitcoin wallet has this features wherein you can surprise your loved ones using Angpao.

Well Christmas is approaching but the virus is not gone yet. I just hope this coming Christmas everything went back to normal so we (specially the kids) can enjoy the holiday season without worrying about any virus that can infect them.

Hope the loved ones to whom you intend to gift btc as present have any knowledge about btc, because gifting btc is one thing and being able to use it (rather than keeping it as part of collectibles) is another thing, if for example you decide to gift btc using paper wallet will they be able to use it or you will attach instruction along side on how to use it? maybe you should first think about this.

That's a nice idea, we always wanted something really special and unique for our loved ones. But maybe if we choose to do that we need to teach them well on how to use it and take care of it because it might just be wasted if they refused to use it.
Maybe it depends on the person we will give it to, if they have any interest in bitcoin, then go for it but if they don't then just give them a traditional Angpao.

Giving gifts in the form of bitcoin at Christmas is a dream of many people. But you have to make sure that what you are giving the prize understands at least bitcoin. So as not to fail. And the surprise you give will be very memorable.

For me I think FIAT is still better than Bitcoin if the person does not know how it works. Bitcoin as a present only works for those who are enthusiastic about cryptocurrency. They may lose or will be stolen if even you give them Bitcoin since they will not know the importance compared to FIAT hard cash which they can choose on what to do with it and that FIAT is very common.

Other options you can do is to buy them their favorite wants. Ask them for you to know what they really want this Christmas. Christmas is the spirit of giving so give what they want.

It is such a great idea to give money to people using cashless transactions, well, ofcourse we are still in this war against covid-19 and paper money can still be contaminated with the virus. Some of these countries with covid cases starts sterilizing these money for safety. Better be safe than sorry right?

The only problem with cashless transaction in the form of cryptocurrency is not all people are knowledgeable about this and it is prone to hacking especially that Christmas is approaching. Maybe for the meantime you should gift them first the knowledge of cryptocurrency before giving them money that they do not know how to use yet.

You should gift them some of your bitcoins as a present. But make sure your're well aware of the bitcoin and using of wallet.
Ask them to keep their private keys safe and secure or they can lose their bitcoins.
Try to convenes them on how to use bitcoin and where to spend. There's still 2 months left you can guide them well until the Christmas.

it's a great idea for a Christmas gift. However, you must know the person that he/she has knowledge of bitcoin or cryptocurrency. If the person to whom you gift the bitcoin paper wallet doesn't know how to use it, it won't be of any value to him/her. Maybe you can also give gifts in the form of souvenirs that have a shape or image of bitcoin (such as promoting bitcoin). if he asks, what is bitcoin? you can explain to him/her

At least this would encourage people to use bitcoins as they will be receiving bitcoins so whenever they would have to sell the coins for money they will be searching on ways to sell bitcoins for cash or bank balance. I guess this is a nice idea and also have been talked about the same here many times in the past too. But only problem would be that if they won't be having any clue about what bitcoin is, so maybe we would have to teach them about bitcoin too before giving them Bitcoins in any form of gift.

You should visit the collectibles section and look at some of the more affordable coins/poker chips that are "loaded" with bitcoin and give those out.  They certainly make for great stocking stuffers.  I would recommend looking at like Satori chips, which are super popular and affordable and carry .001BTC on each or maybe take a look at Alpen coins which have I believe it's .0005BTC loaded on each and are roughly $15 per coin are so.  There's also other cool stuff you kind find there such as art.  Worth checking out anyhow.

this is the problem . what if they dont know btc ? they cant recieve the coin if they dont have a btc wallet and what we  are planning is gifting and gifts must be a secret , telling them to install a btc wallet can spoil the plan . i know , we can hand them physical btc gifts instead  .  dont teach them but let them search for the answer if how can they open the wallet with btc inside because that is more exciting .

@noorammak , better if they spend it than keep it because btc is a currency  but if this was a gift , people will appreciate it and will keep it for a while .

Before giving a gift, you should ask a person what he thinks about bitokin in general. Giving a person bitcoin and not knowing his attitude is not very rational. Many people may not really know about it or not perceive it, and this will not be a very good sign of attention for them and a loss for you.

But you have plenty of time before December 25, you can show them how thing works with bitcoin or any crypto you love to give to them, then from there you can figure out if he or she is into crypto, if he is interested or you just waste money for that.

Ampao using coins.ph is the only way I know how can we send gifts in our loved ones. In fact, I used it a day ago when I treated my niece because it was his birthday. I sent him an ampao because I have earnings in cryptocurrency for the last few months. This was the first time also to use bitcoin as a gift. Well, I think it is the best way to send gifts using bitcoin. You can also buy in Lazada or Shoppee because I knew that you are Filipino user also. Buy some gifts in lazada using bitcoin. A lot of things you can do with your bitcoin, just convert it in other e-wallets. Another thing, you can buy a souvenir such as bitcoin gold coin or other cryptocurrency which will be remembered by your loved ones.

Yes, we are fast approaching Christmas but giving a bitcoin gift to friends which they know nothing about is like wasting of resources. I think what they need first is the bitcoin orientation, how to make use of the Bitcoin during the celebration and how to use them to feed and do other business in the society before giving them the bitcoin gifts.

Few months to Christmas which many people are expecting something good from their love ones. Even Bitcoin investors are also preparing to give gifts to their love ones during the Christmas. Many are using bitcoin to purchase bags of rice in a store that Bitcoin is allow to buy any time you want to buy and pay with your bitcoin.
The most preferable gift for someone to give to their love ones is to impact them very well how to make use of bitcoin and also how to use it to enrich yourself and families. This Christmas will be the best Christmas among the Christmas because I can't wait to impact my family members how bitcoin works.

I think the best thing that you can do is to ask them or at least have a single idea of what kind of present do they want. It will cause a conflict if you will give away Bitcoin without them knowing how to use it. Purchasing things like personal stuff online is also good preparation for you. Just don't forget to save your holdings because we all know that Bitcoin is too surprising. The bull run might happen anytime so we better be ready.

In this pandemic if want to avoid meeting then best is give a pre refilled card to them and this will also boost a new user if not already being using bitcoin . Also bitcoin is moving upwards now so will be better to buy and gift later rather than buying at high prices during Christmas.
When you are just meeting up your loved ones then i wont really be that too hesitant or paranoid on not to meet up with them unless if other people then that would be the time i might avoid.
pre refilled card will be good but in my case then it will be much better if you do give out some gift in physical form that symbolized crypto or bitcoin itself and when curiosity in the works
with that loved ones of yours then thats the time you will make out some explanations. This isnt a simple way yet you are really making out some more awareness to other
people about cryptos existence. Paper wallet might do or even mugs or keychains that has bitcoin symbol with it or some sort.

Paper wallets with bitcoin in it sounds like a cool idea. When you give it to them, they'll surely be confused at first but you'd have to give them a short lecture on what you gave them. Else, it could look like you "cast pearls before swines". You don't want that.

First, you must know if your friend or family knows how to operate and use bitcoin because they won't appreciate what you give if they don't even know how to use it. Second, you must know your budget and how much money you will allot for the gift because if you spend too much money, you may end up getting bankrupted. Third, make sure that your transaction is safe and secured because you might get a information leak if you don't make sure that your transaction is not secured.

There are many creative ideas for coloring the festive Christmas, I will decorate the Christmas tree by making coins with the bitcoin logo, my family is primitive, so I will invite my family to watch knowledge about bitcoin, and I will tell them to make bitcoin wallets, and I will share  to them small chips of bitcoin.  you can follow my ideas and suggestions

Precisely, though if it's for a white elephant, you may be able to get away with it without really explaining how it works. Either way you're doing the person a favor by jumpstarting their investment journey if they haven't been in it yet. Soon as you give them the gift just let them know how it works and you should be able to pull things off nicely.

As every year, I think bitcoin enters the new year by declining sharply. Ever since I know Bitcoin, it rises before every Christmas and falls after New Year's.

Again, the author is pertaining to giving financial related gifts but is somehow hard to give since not all people are knowledgeable about Bitcoin and not all of them has their own Electronic Wallet that can store Bitcoin. Genemind's answer is logically correct since asking other people to what they truly want will not result in a conflict of interest. Although you can still give Bitcoin to somebody who can appreciate it.

I recommend you friend is that you go to a place with the person to whom you are going to give the gift and buy something using cryptocurrency and talk a little about its usability

But can you elaborate about the place where you are suggesting OP to go with the Friend and buy hi a gift with Bitcoin?  do you have any specific marketplace, any shop or outlet where we can buy gifts using bitcoins? I know few places online. but you are sounding like talking about offline world. so kindly tell us if you know about a shop where we can shop for Christmas?

Since you are also from PH, I think using coins.ph angpao is a good way to start. The exchange is not solely used on crypto-related service but for other good services as well such as loading stations, payment transfers, etc. Those people who are unaware of bitcoin that will receive your gift now have reasons to create an account there. From there, they can be now slowly educate about what is bitcoin as they will see a BTC wallet on coins.ph.

Then once these people now gained basic knowledge, time now to teach them the importance of using non-custodial wallets and the associated risk of using an online exchange service.

Of a truth, Christmas already came (very) early for Bitcoin.

YES... It could be best gift ever for anyone.
But honestly, gifting someone Bitcoin who isn't interested in it isn't the best of strategies in spreading the awareness. You can only treasure what you value. Even Satoshi isn't Santa Claus.

For Christmas gifts related to bitcoin I think bitcoin vouchers in paper form and in envelopes are great for Christmas gifts. or maybe there is another idea in the form of writing Merry Christmas but using Bitcoin text or images? What do you think

Today is the great day to start with celebrating christmas as the day draws near. Though the christmas celebration is not like before but at least I can feel the essence of christmas here in our place by the people doing some christmas decorations and lightings. Now, since giving gifta would be possible due to the covid19 then giving of bitcoin would do. Hope so that this coming christmas Satoshi will come up and give bitcoin christmas gift.

Actually, you can't send a bitcoin for an uninterested person. Since he has no interest, I believe that he will not take time to install software wallets or make a wallet. Just like to my mother who don't want to use gadgets too much because she is already old. I can't give her bitcoin because she doesn't know how to use it.

Yes, it is too early Christmas gift for bitcoin but let us be mindful that anytime, crash will land in market.

Wow that's actually a pretty good idea and a creative one as well. It'll surely trigger the curiosity or better yet, the interest of the one who will receive your gift.

Didn't think of that one. My idea this holiday season is to convert the btc to fiat first then give it to my loved ones in that form. I think, in this trying time, they'll prefer something that they can use immediately in case of urgent needs. I'll try to do something different next time. ;D

The idea of giving Paper wallets is good. I think anyone can be given a paper wallet as a gift. Many may say that it is better not to give paper wallet to those who know less about bitcoin. but think, many people may know less about bitcoin, they will get a chance to know about bitcoin from the gifted wallet. If you had given 100 dollars in a paper wallet to someone last Christmas, if he had collected it, he would be surprised today.

Last year, it’s the first time I am sending gifts to my loved ones with cryptocurrencies. This year, I am planning on doing it again aside from just physical gifts. It’s all about letting them aware that they are much more valuable to hold for a long time or they are free to convert it to cash, in which I am teaching them one by one on doing it. It’s all about spreading awareness regarding Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies during the holidays.

^ Good to see there are too many people like you willing to send a gift to their loved ones a valuable asset like cryptocurrency. But it is also good if you include even a short video clip or a letter that explains how bitcoin works and functionalities on it or possible risk. Probably because they think always to have profit, they never know the risk and the possible negative consequences ahead upon adopting bitcoin after they receive a gift from you. It could be blaming you once they had losses from bitcoin investment because they don't understand the system. Nevertheless, that is a good idea.

I was wishing that hopefully the forum will have a bitcoin santa that will give BTC even in a small amount to every users that will participate or win in the activity. Bitcoin is a perfect gift for christmas because we are in the pandemic and that bitcoin as gift can somehow prevent the spread of covid19 wherein bitcoin transfer could only be done online. Hopefully as the bullish trend for bitcoin someone or satoshi will going to show up and conduct bitcoin giveaways.

It is a good idea to gift family and friends with bitcoin. Trust me that if you inform someone who has no prior knowledge about bitcoin that “this is a wallet paper and it is worth $100 dollars” that fellow will move from shop to shop to find out how to spend it. Others may not necessarily be interested in spending but rather keeping it as a special gift from a loved one. This will also get many involved in bitcoin activities.

As much as i wanted to give cryptocurrency as my gift to my loved ones but i couldn't because sad to say i am the only one in our family who knows what bitcoin or cryptocurrency is. I am also wanted them to know about it but i guess this time was not yet a good time to involved them here, i will step by step educate them first so that they could digest properly the significance of bitcoin in the lie of a people today.

Gifts are supposed to bring happiness, not create difficulties.
yes agree, I think I should see the person first. if people understand about bitcoin maybe they can appreciate it. but if people do not understand bitcoin it is futile to be able to give gifts about bitcoin, because they do not understand

I think its a great idea to give something like that, especially if they are younger members of your family. Who knows, one day 0.001 BTC might be worth thousands of dollars so it can be kinda savings for them.
It will be great gift for sure .If someone of your family are gifted by this he/She definitely will be shacked and joys .I think it will be valuable for him/her to get such gift i think it could get him/her as huge amount in near future .So it will be really amazing to celebrate Christmas on this way .

It will depend on the person who will receive the gift I think. We gift people who we know and close to us and someone who is open to learning new things would appreciate things he isn't familiar with. Giving unknown things such as bitcoin could be a mystery for the receiver but as soon as the receiver learns how it is valued, I'm pretty sure the receiver will be so much grateful.

Giving cryptocurrency-related to a person who isn't familiar with cryptocurrency is subjective and differs from the traits of the person who is receiving it.

This Christmas serves to be something special to more number of new bitcoiners who have come to know about bitcoin this year. The incoming growth will surely make more people prefer to gift friends and family in the form of bitcoin. Already gifting bitcoin for different occasions is taking place from our users. Some even have services that give unique way of gifting. Hope the growth will happen even through these small form of gifting.

True, because not all people would really be that open-minded to learn up new things that he newly encounter neither they would just simply ignore it or would be curious and
have interest on learning it.It would only have two possibilities because each of us is different when it comes to perception.

When gifting someone on things that they dont even know will really be having the chance for them to have those questions in mind.
When it comes on being grateful or appreciation then that would happen if they had learned enough and thats the
time when they do actually get even the most basic idea.
