Title: How do we know if Satoshi is still alive?
Post by: CrackedLogic on March 24, 2014, 03:44:15 PM
Well, how do we know if he is still alive, what if he passed away when we all thought he dropped out of bitcoin.

Unless, Dorian is actually him ::) :-\

Sorry - it will be announced in a few more days that he was on MH370.  RIP

I have  been working closely with his family and we have been able to recover most keys

Open Source = Original creator doesn't matter

The better question is, "Why should we care if Satoshi is still alive?"

Isaac Newton is long dead, but his ideas live on, through us...

Satoshi gave a tremendous gift to the world, and in doing so has immortalized herself/themselves/himself.

Most people care because of the BTC1M he/she/they supposedly has in his/her/their possession.

What they do not know is that Satoshi gave them true freedom, not just monetary freedom.

Heard of the RFID chips?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuinaIm-kd4
Well, that plan gone to waste now all because of Satoshi.

When Isaac Newton died, gravity stopped working.

That is why we have general relativity now.

It's easy to tell he is alive.  He was just on TV the other day.  People thought he was dead but he was just really sick.  Unfortunately, his mom sold all his computer stuff when he was in the hospital.  It was either the computers or the toy trains, she couldn't afford to take care of both.  So all his bitcoins are as good as dead.  But he is fine, for now.

Yes, but everyone knows exactly who Isaac Newton is/was.  He's Googleable!

Had "Isaac Newton" been an unknown person or group who suddenly popped onto the science scene, dropped Newtonian mechanics and universal gravitation and then promptly disappeared, maybe then you could draw comparisons. ;D

It's inconceivable for most people that such an incredible, disruptive creation as Bitcoin can go unclaimed.  Throw in the 1 million BTC fortune supposedly sitting dormant and it begins to look slightly sinister.

Bitcoin is open source, of course, so we shouldn't care, but we're human, so we do.

Well, if he isn't dead, he will be sometime. We all die.

The important point for all of us is the next life. The important thing in this life regarding Satoshi is that we take his example and run with it.

Every average person can innovate more than he does when he sits on the couch and watches football all day. The example that Satoshi left us is not simple innovation, simple inventing a new method of turning on the couch to see the tube better. His big example is that he made an innovation innovation. He innovated innovation. He taught us all how to think about improving thinking. And he opened it up in such a way that we can ALL use it.

Most of us, at least those of us who are middle-aged or older, have been set in a thinking rut by schools, our jobs, and years and years of "practice" at remaining in the rut. Satoshi showed us a way to actually, practically, pick ourselves up out of the rut. We may not be the genius that he was, and probably not in the way that he was, but we are ALL unique, virtually genius in some little way known only to ourselves. Lets get out and innovate like Satoshi innovated.

The bad thing about innovating like Satoshi is that, we won't have time for meaningful talk in Bitcointalk, and the whole forum will become boring.

It wasn't him/her/them.

Someone hacked his/hers/their account.
That is for certain because he/she/they didn't sign the message.

Actually, the one thing we know for sure is that she/they/he are NOT swimming in pools of money. It's all right there on the blockchain.

Not a single penny of this person(s) wealth has yet been touched!

This means one of two things:

1. They/she/he is waiting for their BTC to be worth FAR more than it currently is before they're willing to touch even a fraction of it. Meaning they anticipate enormous valuation increase within their lifetime.
2. Bitcoin was a gift to the world, and the creator will never touch any of the wealth. The implication being that it was - and always will be - an utterly selfless act.

Given just HOW MUCH wealth they have, scenario #1 seems exceedingly unlikely to me. If you have millions in BTC, what's the harm in cashing in a few thousand to buy yourself something nice?

Again, NOT ONE PENNY has been touched! Take from that what you will.

The conclusion I must draw, as a man of reason, is that the invention of Crypto was a selfless act - a gift to the world just like Newtonian physics (Isaac Newton was paid only in books for that revelation).

No wonder the Malaysians were coming up with crazy theories like the plane flying to Afghanistan. They were thinking of a way to cover up the illumnati's murder of Satoshi Nakamoto.

or
3: it's hard to get fiat out without revealing himself, and at least renewing interest in who he is?

His true reason was world domination.

Once Bitcoin goes mainstream and is worth a $hit load he is gonna come out and buy ur and everyone else's a$$.

All Hail Satoshi, Emperor of the Earth

I doubt that. You should probably consider employing doubt more frequently in your life. It's a powerful force for discovering truth.

Yes, I know you're joking. But there is a little truth in every joke, and a little joke in every truth.

I don't really have any patience for "devil's advocate" bullshit anymore. Not here, not know. The stakes are far too high.
