If you buy Bitcoin with fiat now and what to double your investment, BTC needs to pump to over $50k. That's a long way. However. If you find a cheap altcoin with a good project behind it for a few cents, even a 10x ... is easily possible. I think that's it what most people are hoping for when they are looking for the best altcoins.

However, I do not think that now the general market situation is conducive to the transition to altcoins. That means just take a look at the top coins on coinmarketcap and if you like 5 coins from the 52 you check a year, that means you are already invested, after that you will be capable of checking another 50 next year and if you want to you could check all the new ones as well and that would mean about 40 old, 10 new and highly ranked ones as well.Long story short in few years you will have more knowledge about all coins in top 100 and new ones than 99% of the crypto world, in just 2 years or so.
