Title: My birthday merit treat to newbies and others who are about to rank up!
Post by: cheezcarls on January 18, 2021, 08:44:00 AM
Hey guys!

It's my birthday today, and I'm here for a nice treat! Since I have some unused sMerits that are not yet been given, I have decided to give away some to newbies (and especially those who have a few left to rank up in the forum) as a birthday treat.

However, here are some of my rules of applying:

* If you have zero posts, don't apply. I won't accept you.
* No alt accounts allowed.
* If your posts are full of POA (proof of authentication) and bounty reports, I won't accept your application. Don't bother applying.
* If your account has a red tag, don't bother applying. Same thing goes to the cheaters and abusers of this forum.

I will go over your posts and if I see something that is valuable and helpful to me and the community, I'll be happy to send you one. However, there's no guarantee about giving you merit once you've applied.

To submit your application, reply here with the following:

Code:
Username:
Amount of merit in 60 day:
Link from post that are considered quality:
1.
2.
3.

To all who have applied with the old format, please edit your post with the following above.

Cheers everyone!

Happy Birthday cheezcarls!!

Great initiative this one; sometimes, it seems that be forget that we all were Newbies once.

Taking into account that you will check the activity of those who apply before sending them the merits, I aplaude your willingness to "work for them" in the day of your birthday. Keep up and have a nice day (at home)!  ;)

This has not been a very thrilling activity of the forum though, it remains a special one or thing to the celebrant but, i can't tell so well how it is to the rest of the forum users. Sometimes i wonder, should the thousands of participants in the forum be keen on celebrating their birthdays, what is the forum boards going to look like because, everyday might just be some person's birthday. Again, it would give hackers a clue to guessing users pass codes and the unfortunate users which might very well be the beginners that tend to create pass codes based on their birthdays for easy remembrance.

Using it as a way to aid beginners rank up is quite a way to commensurate the occasion to a forum proactive activity which makes it a good thing as it helps someone, some hidden good forum user and brings to visibility some valuable post. It's always good to celebrate with friends and with that spirit,,,
I'm wishing you a happy birthday and hope your new beginning graces you with things you desire.

great giving a chance for newbies to rank up, I'm also planning to give merit for the same prerequisite for newbie and jr member but, thinking twice since if I make the same post, it will look like I'm just copying others topic, so if someone will post here I'll try to see their profile and post, ill be giving merit for qualified newbies and jr members, here in op post, hope i'll be able to help in a small way.

Thanks for the wonderful birthday greetings!

I understand and respect your opinion. I am just thinking of it as a way of giving back since I don’t have any benefit at all if I just keep these unused sMerits for long and may decay in the near future, but of course I don’t just wanna send everybody a merit easily, etc. I will only give merit to those posts where I think it’s very valuable and helpful for me, and not those who are merit beggars or with low quality posts and unimpressive ones.

And once they’ve applied here, they must not expect 100% that I’ll give them a merit receipt. No guarantees. It still depends if one of their posts is going to help me a lot and is very valuable to the community plus the qualifications I have set for them.

Cheers!

Any -Newbie- that would speak-of merit scarcity or partiality will only be exposing how lazy, and unwilling to do good and capitalize on the leap giving to -Newbies- and to -Newbies- going to DM for merit-begging, offers like this are better for you, except you are falling short of the rules of selected meritable profile.

First, Happy Birthday to you.

I won't comment on how you have used the rest of the sMerit saved on your account so far as it's completely yours. As long as it doesn't break the rule then do it well.
But one thing I might suggest to you. Don't focus too much on your sMerit spending for newbie as you can get other quality posts from high ranking users. Merit are distributed on quality posts, there is no limit to the ratings that receive them. But it's all up to you.

All newbie who have had 30 activities will have a chance to move up the rank to Junior member if they gain 1 merit. Will you send them all to move up the rank?
Sorry to be a little kidding.  ;)

Yup I know. This is why I'm against favoritism and I wanted everything to be fair. And of course, I don't want to break the rules. And yes I agree with you that there are high ranking members that are more deserving to be merited due to their helpful posts, but I wanna see if can discover something from the newbies who can do the same.

I am open to suggestions on what should I do to make this better, especially for some posts coming from newbies whom I really feel that it helps me a lot.

This is a great move, and fair play to you for thrawling through posts looking to give sMerit.

This is something all the higher rank members could do, lets say an extra bit back to the newbie

Happy birthday, mate.
By the way, why merit reward only for newbies and who almost rank up? I think it is already a common way to spread up merits. Why don't you give merits for members who never got a single earned merit. So, at least a single merit from you will be very meaningful for them. They will get the merit for the first time.  :)

(Just a suggestion)

I am considering that, but of course, their posts must be helpful, meaningful and gives great value to the community. If I feel that one of their posts are indeed very helpful for me, I would be glad in giving one. And take note that there are no guarantees for a 100% merit if you all have applied. Because I want everything to be fair and square in terms of giving merits and not abusing them. I am still looking at the posts though to see if they deserve a merit from me for being helpful. Having a hard time in making decisions whether to give this guy a merit or not for such helpful posts and not having full of POAs, bounty reports, etc.

I have seen several users interested in the merit you are about to share. Therefore, several users have submitted application according to the desired condition. But I did not see any of them received an merit for submission or application submitted. Is their post that has submitted the application in this thread really not up to the standard you expect ? I also don't see you say anything against the apps these guys are proposing, if they really don't deserve it because it doesn't meet the standard you want then I think you should tell them so these people know and want to improve the quality of their future post.

My advice for you.
1. Try to comment a little for those who have submitted application. This will bring your thread and purpose to life.
2. If you don't have the opportunity to check each applicant's profile to find their worthy post, then change the application format slightly to make it easier for you to get the right post.
Maybe the format will be like this.

Code:
Username:
Amount of merit in 60 day:
Link from post that are considered quality:
1.
2.
3.

My reason:
1. The username will make it easier for you to know who submitted the application for review and to verify the submitted post really the same person.
2. The amount of merit they get in 60 days will make it easier for you to know how often these users make posts that are considered quality by other users.
3. Lastly, you don't have to bother checking each user's profile to find their quality posts as I bet you can't send merit for all of their quality posts (sMerit limitation). Only 3 posts are enough for you to check, it will be easy enough to get them.

These are all my suggestions and views to make your goals better. If you don't want it, just ignore my advice.

Perhaps this is just my opinion, and it does not claim to be generally recognized, but your help to beginners can be a good incentive for them in the future. You motivate them to do the right thing. But I strongly disagree with the miserable request for credit for the account you answered. If for a long time he could not prove himself in any way, being a full member, this is just talking about his vain presence on the forum.

Agree that the registration on July 28, 2017, says a lot. By this time, many have long become legends, and it is very humiliating to ask for merit in this topic, understanding how newbies hope for bonuses.

That's because in my terms there are no guarantees that they will be given a 100% merit receipt. I am taking time plus I have a lot of stuff going on both family and work deadlines lately.

Nah this advice is helpful. Thank you for this. I will be making some changes now in the thread. One merit for you buddy!

Btw question. Is it wrong or against the rules to send a lot of merits in a single day or having fast interval because of this special treat of mine even if all of them are helpful and valuable? I don't wanna abuse the system, just making sure that I abide by the rules. Thanks!

Btw question. Is it wrong or against the rules to send a lot of merits in a single day or having fast interval because of this special treat of mine even if all of them are helpful and valuable? I don't wanna abuse the system, just making sure that I abide by the rules. Thanks!
The rule is 50 merit per user in 30 days. That means you can only send 50 merit to the same user within 30 days. Then, if you have 1000 sMerits then you can also send fairly for 1000 posts or 1 merit per user and you won't break any rules even if you do it in one day. But I'm pretty sure you won't get that amount for a quality post.

If you have any doubt, see how the merit source distributestheir sMerit. One example you might consider is @DdmrDdmr merit send history. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=1582324)

HBD OP, I suggest you should make a list of members that you've successfully merited, it seems no one received merit from you yet? Try making a list on the original post to make things look more cleaner and clearer, Long life and prosperity

it is very humiliating to ask for merit in this topic,
I didn't ask any single merit. Can you read carefully? I just deliver my opinion and I think this forum lets every member have an opinion. I know you are a legendary member and maybe you are a staff member also. But it is not a reason for you to say at will. Although I was a long time not active here, you cannot judge me as a bad member. Please respect another member!

Hey there, OP. It's been days since you posted this for your birthday so I don't know if your treat is still available but I'd still like to participate since this is not limited to newbies alone.  So below is the details required according to the format on the op. These are actually the posts I created before and some of the words are in our local language but it also contains the universal language. I mean, English. I hope you don't mind.

Anyway, I'd just like to say that I or we appreciate you doing this on your birthday. More birthdays and blessings to come to you, OP. Happy birthday. :)
