Title: itcointalk.org, btcointalk.org, bitcoitalk.org, etc. Post by: Poker Player on May 07, 2021, 10:52:05 AM Have you realized this?
When I misstype, I end up redirected here: https://i.postimg.cc/d0bbYzFs/aaaaaa.jpg (https://postimg.cc/ns1RKSMg) Binance must have bought all the similar domain names. Title: Re: itcointalk.org, btcointalk.org, bitcoitalk.org, etc. Post by: TryNinja on May 07, 2021, 10:57:12 AM I doubt Binance themselves bought them. Someone else did so they could shove their ref links and get some money (?ref=X1H3VBDT).

I wonder if this has been going on for long and how profitable it is. They'll be able to change the redirection whenever they want. Some were just recent like btcointalk which was just created almost 3 months ago, so I guess these are still being done these days to mislead users.Just like what TryNinja said, they're being used for quick bucks as well. Another one that I got based on the referral links was Bitointalk. Title: Re: itcointalk.org, btcointalk.org, bitcoitalk.org, etc. Post by: DdmrDdmr on May 07, 2021, 12:00:36 PM <...> If you take a look at the dnstwister site, you’ll se a whole range of similarly named domains, some of which lead to Binance+ref, but others take you other sites without and explicit referral code (I’ve just tried a few, and one led to Kraken, while another to Localbitcoins), building up traffic perhaps. These are the results for Bitcointalk on dnstwister: https://dnstwister.report/search?ed=7777772e626974636f696e74616c6b2e6f7267 Title: Re: itcointalk.org, btcointalk.org, bitcoitalk.org, etc. Post by: stompix on May 07, 2021, 12:36:39 PM These are the results for Bitcointalk on dnstwister: https://dnstwister.report/search?ed=7777772e626974636f696e74616c6b2e6f7267 Damn, I hate so much those wwwdomain websites, at least those are harmless...I guess. The redirects I've checked are indeed pointing to legit exchanges but probably it's a matter of time till some that point to phishing pages would pop up also, once the referral money starts going down some might be tempted to change the income "source". Binance must have bought all the similar domain names. Binance probably has more important domains to secure, with tons of possibilities of randomizing characters they would probably have to spend hundred of thousands to keep phishing websites away from their own business. Besides, doing such a thing would come with a backlash from the community, too much trouble for a way too little revenue gain. They'll be able to also replace the website with a phishing clone of Binance or Bitcointalk. So I'd be more wary about this. Even if it's harmless once, it can too easily turn evil. This domains are even purchased at the same date and time, and he is forum member or he knows that bitcointalk is world's most popular crypto forum, and he probably have more purchased domains. Looks like we would never know who's the guy behind those domains since lots of fake alias are used. Title: Re: itcointalk.org, btcointalk.org, bitcoitalk.org, etc. Post by: OgNasty on May 07, 2021, 07:04:18 PM You guys aren’t into itcoin? ???

I wonder if this has been going on for long and how profitable it is. I don't think it was a clever idea to get referrals from binance. When anyone mistypes to access bitcointalk forum, his intention is not to make an account on binance but to use the forum. So why would anyone be creating accounts on redirection ? He should have used domains like bnance, inance etc to fool the people, if he had some common sense. Now that we have known that these fake domains are being used to get binance referrals, can we do anything to stop these domains to be operational ? At least some one should report to Binance about this referral (ref=X1H3VBDT), so that his account should be banned or investigated. Is that illegal or nefarious? Someone bought a domain and setup a referral link… There’s got to be worse behavior to want to stop on the internet. I doubt even Binance would care this is happening. If they were trying to steal logins or something I could understand, but a referral… We’re talking about a referral? Referrals? Not an actual scam, but a referral? I think something is wrong somewhere. And like wise we need to keep making research so we wouldn't wake up one day and found we redirected to another even when typed the actual domain name. |
