Beginners, or should i say Newbies should consider the proper approach when it comes to betting on sports, even while enjoying the sports, it is possible to make some profit if proper guidelines are followed, There are sure plenty of steps that you should pay attention to on how to make money from sports betting, But in this article, we are going to be discussing just a few of those steps.

Yeah, I think this is the basic but the most important things if you are going to be a sports bettor. You should only bet on the sports that you learn, not just the rules, the team itself, the players and others. That is why I love football, because I know much about it than other sports, but do not forget that OP also mentioned virtual sports, also know that there are live matches which can make gamblers to play often than not. Also if playing sport betting more often, losses should still be expected after analyzing the whole match and going for the team that has upper hand to win.

The problem with gambling stems from its very nature- which is you are playing against the uncertain risks and odds that may or be against your favor. But with sports betting, you are putting yourself in a situation where you can bet on a specific sports that you are knowledgeable about. While having that knowledge will not completely save you from losing, this puts tremendous amount of leverage and advantage if you were to know the basic foundation of every team and its players.

Having a bias is for real. When I do sports betting before and was like new to it, I don't mind about the odds as long as I'll bet for my favorite team, that would be the most important matter.

Well in the beginning, I keep a note on my wins and losses. I know that data is important to see where you are going in soortbetting. However, I stop doing it because I said to myself that I don't need to complicate things. Besides if you bet online, you will have the historical logs in any bookies. When I'm playing gambling i always prefer sports betting particularly with basketball at the same time e-sports betting one of the best and ideal things to do when doing a sports bet is always make a background check with the player or the team will play because of course there's some issue with the complexity of the new players to the existing already after that is check their standing in the game and check what are their current standing to have an idea if this team is good to bet, yolo or not.

every bet I make in football, the team that will compete must be in a position of supervision as a reference for every selection in betting, I think it would be very reckless if I bet on a league I don't know about.
all bets that I make must be in a position that I know, be it statistics, player conditions, performance, sometimes the casino gives betting pairs that look odd, everything is a matter of consideration and research that I do to maximize winnings.

I can still remember I started with just cents of a dollar when I was starting to bet on sports.

Here's my list(about football betting).
1.Use matched betting, if you live in the UK. You will make some easy money at the start. You can't become rich, though.
2.Pick unpredictable teams, which are in the middle of the ranking(5-15th place). I usually pick teams that could win against every opponent and lose against every opponent. I usually don't bet on stronger teams, that are considered favorites by the bookies.
3.Pick teams that have good statistics at scoring many goals, but also get a lot of goals.
4.Find "high value bets". This is a more complex topic and it should be a part of another discussion.
5.Practice,practice,practice.
6.Remembet that, at the end of the day, sports betting is all about luck(just like any other form of gambling). Your "betting strategy" doesn't matter that much and, in 99% of the time, you can't outsmart the bookies.

I think of number one because if we set or create a goal to achieve which it will make us to spend more money to achieve that goal. Although maybe the goal we want to achieve is not too big but still we will never know how difficult it is to achieve that goal. This can make us keep betting and even though it is sports betting, we can also keep placing bets just for the sake of achieving a goal. I have seen fan addict who still bet in favour of their team despite knowing the opponent is better in form, stronger and we'll coordinated from proof of previous match winnings, they bet and lose with the proud feeling of going down with their team. The Manchester fans are the most culprit of this in my area. They usually include man u in their slip and they lose the bet at the end, sometimes it is only the Manchester United game that stop them from winning the bet. I'd say that taking advantage of beneficial promotions can make a big difference to winnings. If this were to be the archiveable goals for most gamblers, I guess most users won't gamble at all. For whale gamblers this means nothing to them at all. In fact, they wish to make stakes above casino limits and most times, are uncomfortable with casinos or sportsbook having limits as, it pushes them to making multiple bets on a single prediction which could be against the company T&C and that wpd inturn, affect the outcome on the bets. Perhaps the amount referred to here us relative although, sticking to common reocuring multipliers or odds that don't seem so daring.

Here, the stakes determines your profits on wins and you ensure to place bets based on a budgeted stake amount for which you can express some degree of freedom and not get to arch before you bet.

Can I ask a quick question on "Multi bets"..... so I like to place small bets on multiple games in a single multi bet. I then wait for some of the bets to win... and then "cashout" early for a small profit. Now, would you rather place a bigger amount on individual bets... or follow my example of adding them into a multi bet?

I have been rather successful with this strategy, but timing is everything with this strategy and you constantly have to monitor the bet to time your early "cashout".  ::)

But started from now I think not bad, you can make it on a piece of paper or in a note on your computer. I think that increasing our bet size doesn't speed up the process but if this was done in some casino games like dice then yes. Also I think that what @kakmakr was doing there actually saves more time than manually betting one by one. It is perfect if you are in a hurry like you will go outside or do something else.

It is very important that we are familiar with the sport/s that we bet on. Sports betting can't be hard and it was not a pure luck-based game as we somehow know whose team had the big chance to win. Likely, if we are always watching sports and having fun with it, then it was very easy for us to bet and have a bigger chance to win as well.

Like if we want basketball, then it was advisable to put bet only on basketball, not on football or any other sports as for sure we don't have any idea. We can't just rely on odds, honestly.

Definitely. You need to know which players are playing vs injured. You need to know if they were out partying late the night before or if they’re battling through personal issues. Did the team just play the night before or have they had 2 days off with a practice to prepare for the game plan? There are definitely ways to give yourself an edge and the big boys are certainly tracking all of this and more.

And I disagree with you. Setting up a budget is not effective. It will just lead to a gambler surpassing their budget once they feel pressured to win. A limited budget will just force them to gamble more since there's an eagerness to chase the loss.

I agree. At that time when the main leagues in the world were stopped, I decided to be placing bets on teams I don't know, the following happened:

1 - I looked at both teams

2 - I looked at the last 5 games of the two teams

3 - then I would place bets on the team that had the best result in the last 5 games, but I also only chose games in which one team was much superior to the other team

I really agree with this. there are so many types of sports bets and we don't need to follow other people to bet on the games. It is better to do whatever that we actually know and are able to analyze. Although it seems easy, actually, some things are not simple. Of all your points I have a hard time following this one, it's like a part of me is betraying my favorite team or player and you always wish that your team or player can and will upset the opposing team, I experience losing in the past, that is why I prefer not to bet when my favorite team or player is against a very tough opponent and I have a small chance betting on my favorite team or player, I prefer this than betraying my favorite team or player.

Of all the points, I agree with 6 and 7 the most. A lot of gamblers always follow their favorite team blindly even though the odds of that team winning is very poor. It isn't odd. I myself have some biases when it comes to certain sports, and I've done some pretty dumb shit by betting on them on a losing match but hey, it isn't that weird for me to hope for something to happen. I also especially like betting on dark horses when it comes to matches so betting on my bias even though they're lower compared to their enemy is pretty normal for me. I just stop betting in general on a match all together when there's like an insane difference between the two teams, to the point you'd ask why is this team here kind of thing.

I am not that good with live betting, maybe because of the remaining personal bias.
I tried it last season of the NBA and I failed. I think the research made pre-game is what will stop the correct decision-making.
If I already decided that one team will win it but failed to put my bet the night before, even down by 10-15 points during the live game I still bet for them.
So a safer decision for me is just to forget about it and wait for the next game rather than take the risk. Or, don't bet for a winning team but instead go for total points or other options that don't rely on which team will win.

This is the way I felt after losing multiple times in soccer betting. I was thinking that I was losing because I bet on direct win always but I changed options to others like 1.5 , 2.5, 0.5 etc, this didn't stop my losing. So I concluded that options doesn't really determine what will happen to our bet but what luck or fate has for us on the game we are betting. Even if I have good info on the game regarding the condition of the players and also their overall H2H stats, I'd still go for the team that I like to win and not the one who is more plausible to win. Well i agree on by keeping a records so that you can get some ideas and to see how much money you spend everytime you gamble.. But the question is how it can help in order to win and to fix the mistakes,  wherein at ths first place what you can see on it is your bets and strategy you used in every game. This no doubt will not help us to win, but yes it will stop us from making more losses.

Always place bets on those sports events which you have knowledge on. I mean not knowledge on the sports but yes knowledge on the player stats.

In your case, what if your losses are more than your winnings? Will that stop you from gambling on that month and you will continue again by the next month? But to some, recording is still useless because there is still an urge that they will gamble even if they already crossed their desired limits. Odds something lower that 1.5 isnt something worth i would say i do even see some people do make bets on 1.1 which it would really be not that good to consider.

Yeah, that happens mostly in those unpredictable sports. As you have mentioned, in boxing, the underdog isn't the crowd favorite but is surprisingly able to beat the crowd favorite. So, sometimes it's good to have those times that you really aren't expecting yet most of the time, those odds that are showing on underdog were mostly correct too. This is the actual in sports betting and that's why before placing a bet, you should know who you are betting and what you've done before betting like research first.

In the past, there was a time when I recorded in an excel sheet all my daily net wins or losses. I stopped it already and just now I realized how funny it was although useful. The main purpose at that time was to try earning daily from betting. I was doing casino games, especially dice, and of course my favorite sports betting. I did it for nearly a year. I can say, I mostly came up with a net win daily. And I can also see my grand total net profit and it was pretty decent.

I agree with you that it's a good idea to watch the games we place our bets. It will help us to see if our predictions were accurate. Watching summaries of the game is fine but it will never show all important parts. And maybe our team lost due to a few unlucky situations. So far my experiences with live gambling wasn't really successful. I used live bets a few times in the past to close down bets I placed before. This always meant to take a save loss with no more upside chances. Too many times I have seen the game turn around in the last 10 minutes, which made me feel horrible for closing out the bets. Since then I kind of stopped betting in the opposite direction. If you are skilled sport bets gambler this is a good strategy, but for beginners it seems a bit too much. I don't rely much on the odds rather than in how much do I know a single team that I am betting in.I know really well all the Western Balkan leagues but this was not enough to give me a winning bet last Thursday where I did place a bet on Partizan Belgrade that needed the win at all cost to qualify further in Europa league but yet they lost against a weaker team.The odd was 1.65 which I think is on the low side but the team that won had an odd of 5 so the odds do not mean much unless we know teams really well.
