Just delete the app and download new one. It will prompt you on uploading your key store file and create a new password. But I think you need to create a new wallet first since its a new app again. Then after creating the first one, go to import keys and then plug in your save one and thats it.

Recovering your old mew using keystore file requires you to have password also if I am not mistaken. It won't work if you are missing the other. It's not the same as recovering wallet using private key or seedphrase.

I don't think you have other choice but to remember or search for it.

Usually I used with privatekey when access to Myetherwallet and doesn't need password, but I tried with key store file and need with password access and I don't have ideas with your password losing.  I think you can encrypt with json file on notepad to be private key because ever I tried it and success login back by using private key without have to use Json filed or key store file.

Did you try login to Myetherwallet trough metamask add on extensions? not access trough
myetherwallet (https://www.myetherwallet.com/) website but login to your account trough Metamask, first instal add on in your chrome or mozilla browser, then access by using Key Store file and check by using new password its working or not, its seems access trough Metamask add on you can recovering with your Myetherwallet account.

You should delete the old app, and download it again, there will be two options, first will be to import through the private key, 2nd will be importing your wallet through the Keystore file. Select the second option of importing through the Keystore file. And after that, set a new password for it, I hope it will work.

If you are still using the old computer and the same browser, it is possible that you have saved the password of your keystore on the browser, try looking at the saved password of your browser.  If you are lucky you can find it there, if not then there is no other way but to remember the keystore password.

I don't think it works that way.  Just like what Yogee stated, keystore file need the password it was encrypted with.  The idea of deleting the app and redownloading a new one and uploading the keystore file for new password won't work.

Select the second option of importing through the Keystore file. And after that, set a new password for it, I hope it will work.

It won't work.

@OP you need to remember the password or else that keystore will be useless.

The MEW application on the phone does not support importing the wallet through the private key or the Keystore file, the private key and the Keystore file are only available on MyEtherWallet.com, and unfortunately there is no way to import the wallet using the Keystore file without the password, so if you have forgotten the password, I see that it is there is no method that will help you with that. You can search for the password in a note or anywhere you have saved it.

As @BitcoinPanther mentioned, if you are lucky, you will remember your password from an old browser on your computer, or through your Gmail account, go to Account Settings, then to Security, then click on Password Manager, and you will find your saved passwords.

IIRC, I've done that and also used an old keystore but it has required me with password too. Checking it on https://www.myetherwallet.com/wallet/access/software?type=keystore will still require you to enter the password as the 2nd process.

I have no idea if there's a way to bypass that but think of any password that you've used on that keystore or account and try to remember it.

Look at your computer or laptop wherever you usually keep passwords on your files and folders.

The password is the most important aspect here, I mean if you lost it, then how can your recover?

Not to burst the bubble for you, you can't recover your MEW if you don't have the password to go with it.

Or maybe you can read it here: https://help.myetherwallet.com/en/articles/5449341-lost-private-key

Just try to remember your password, who knows, maybe it will just pop up in your mind one of these days.

i don't see any recovery option.
That's the point.

To make sure you have an easy understanding of the situation. There is no option for "Forget-password" you should remember the password has been set-up to the Keystore. If you forget the password, try a few pieces of advice:
1. Go to "Google-setting" > Autofill > Password Manager > Search MyEtherWallet (In case there has some luck, you saved the password to your browser).
2. Try a few password from your (Social Media or anything), could be there has some chance you have the same password with other.

I have never heard of this method. Does it work? Do you have any detailed instructions for this method? OP, if you really can't figure out your old password, you can follow this method which is the only helpful suggestion I've seen, but I've never heard of it either. Hopefully, @Oneandpure will come back and tell us how.

As far as I remember, metamask allows you to login with keystore file but it still asks for password which means you need to remember old password not create new one. In this case, it works like myeth wallet or another non-custodial wallet, you still can't login with keystore file if you forget password.

Unfortunately there's no way to recover it, that's why in crypto space, private key or seed phrase are the most important thing to save. Even if your wallet doesn't have any balance, too old etc, just make sure you always save the private key to prevent from anything happen in the future. There's a chance you're send your coins on old address or someone mistakenly send their coins to your old wallet.

2FA, password, fingerprint, code are pointless, those just add extra security to make people can't access your wallet only, not add any security on your wallet.

You will never able to recover your password if you have forgot it. that's why you need to backup your password once you create a new wallet on mew and downloading the keystore file. There's no way for you to recover your password.
You shall try to remember what password that being very often used by you. that may give you a clue about what password that potentially to be used to secure your keystore but if you are not even getting any clue about your own password and im sorry for your lose as you will never able to unlock your keystore forever.

The old MEW may work where you can upload the key store, find the old one here https://github.com/MyEtherWallet.

Just download it and access the wallet offline thru the browser - index.html

I think this is it https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4500372.0 You just have to remember the password or nothing will happen.

I’m very thankful for this thread because I suddenly remember that it’s been very very long time I have not logged into my MEW and I should be recalling my password right away.  :P

Thanks buddy. I hope that you have already followed fellow members advice and now going to learn Forever that recalling your passwords and keystore file locations on the devices and basically whatever gives you access to the wallet.

A good reminder for everyone whose reading this. Go ahead and check whether you guys have recalled the security checks and keep them safe.

Unfortunately no, you can't recover your password.
And you can't login without that password, because the Keystore file, you have has your private key in it but in an encrypted form. To decrypt you will have to give the same password which you had given while downloading the file.

Here is MyEtherwallet's article about it: Link (https://help.myetherwallet.com/en/articles/5449827-what-is-a-keystore-json-file-can-i-change-my-password)

I hope you remember how many characters were in your password. You can pick up a password using various programs.
With btcrecover you can extract the hashes you need.
You can guess the password using the hashcat program.
There is other software, but it is paid

You still have a keystore file so you can restore at any time, and for passwords this is not needed, when you want to log in on the metamask that is needed only the keystore file, private key or the other, so as long as you still have a keystore file you can use to login on Many applications such as Metamask, or other applications.

There are different methods to login your Myetherwallet. Key store is one of methods to use. If you have it, you can simply log in your wallet by importing it to Myetherwallet but must hve a password to decrypt that file and get a private key.

If you back up your wallet in mnemonic seed, when you import it, you will not need any password.

In most cases, the Myetherwallet password cannot be recovered. It is important that you have an easy-to-remember password for the private key. In this case, you should use the MetaMask extension for the Chrome browser and no need password. You just need to insert the private key. Done.

Easy to remember password is a terrible idea. It will be brute-forced easily and you should use a strong password instead.

[Guide] How to create a strong / secure password (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5132378.0)

Are your passwords in the green? (https://www.hivesystems.io/blog/are-your-passwords-in-the-green). If your password is weak, easy-to-remmeber, it would be in red and unsafe, unsecured.

Important to backup your password, not to remember it with your brain which can be damaged and lose its memory some day.
