Title: Which kind of situation will force you to sell?
Post by: Queentoshi on December 21, 2022, 03:36:24 PM
People actually claim to be strong holders that can go against any situation wanting them to sell off some of their bitcoins. The strongest of holders do not just sell at the slightest economic discomfort I know, but I believe everybody has a threshold at which if the pressure surpasses them, they would break into the decision of selling some of their bitcoins to sort the present condition. What kind of situation do you think is enough to pressure you in seeling some of the bitcoins you have been holding. Is family or health challenge enough reason to?

If Bitcoin goes up 1000% from today's value, I'll feel compelled to sell a small part ;)

Healthcare is mostly covered here by mandatory insurance.

If you would ask me, personally my portfolio is diversified across assets of different classes and my liquid cash at hand is enough to cover most emergency situations. Hence the chance of me selling my bitcoins is minimum even if case of a huge dump back to three digit prices in USD. Besides, the options to sell in my country are limited without having to go through a huge tax barrier.

But I believe this might not be true for many other members of this forum who might have only invested in bitcoin till date because they started late or their liquid cash situation is not that good. Most emergency situations happen without warnings and they draw the maximum money out from savings.

When it comes to trading, a veteran trader can hodl through bear markets without having any emotions because they have a lot of backups to keep them afloat, including different assets they are invested in and the <10% allocation to risky investments technique.

Of course, everyone has a specific situation when they have no choice but to use Bitcoin regardless of the price. Health reasons are perhaps at the top of the priority list, because what kind of person would he be if he didn't want to help himself or a member of his family.

Some people have pre-defined exit points, others are smart and know how to profit during a bull run, and then buy cheaply during corrections and bear markets. Anyone who has the courage to sell it above $50k and more not only made a profit, but could buy a few BTC for that amount and calmly wait for a new bull market.

Personally, I have no problem using BTC as a currency, or exchanging it for fiat regardless of the price - but not everyone has the same starting positions and that is something that needs to be taken into account.

Well there will be a time when the average early adopter will retire and since he can't take his bitcoins to the grave will sell all or at least some of them. I guess this will be in 30 years from now and will be for sure interesting to see if the next generation is buying up these sells.

I will sell when bitcoin is near $100k because a lot of people are waiting for that target which shows there will be a huge sell wall near that zone.
When bitcoin breaks the ATH it would be a tricky situation and a good time to sell some bitcoins only to buy back later.
Selling forever is never an option. Selling temporarily to buy back later is smart. Not selling at all is foolishness.

A 100% gain or more and when I really need the money I invest on crypto for my personal needs. There’s no reason for me to hold if I really have no other money to get for my personal needs because I can always buy back at any price and continue my holding at different price entry. What matter most for me when it comes to holding is I don’t sacrifice my personal needs in exchange for more gains since the reason of my holding is for my own benefits in the future and it’s useless if my current life is waste just because I keep holding than use the money I invest for my needs.

I’m sure at some point I can hold again if ever I spend the money.

People who are forced to sell are people who do not have enough liquid cash, a person that has a good job in real life, with some of their money saved in the bank, and some saved in BTC may not sell their coins if they have a serious situation to handle, they would solve that problem from the money they have saved in the bank, because BTC is a kind of money that soars, while fiat diminishes most times, so it is surely better to hold BTC if you have enough liquid cash to spend. But if you lack liquid cash to spend and BTC in your wallet, you surely have to spend your BTC, not only when you are forced to, but also to take care of yourself.

People should also get used to it that BTC is a currency, and they should spend the currency itself if they can, they do not have to be forced to spend or sell it before they do.

I will sell of my own free will when btc hit another ath, i will not consider it as being forced rather it is a way of increasing my btc bags. There are different type of holders, there are those who would want to be seen as diamond hands and hold 1BTC for decades, and there are the smart holders who had flipped their 1BTC at every ath to gain another 1btc. I chose the latter, holding is good but you have to be smart about it.

If within next one month bitcoin goes up to $100K, maybe that it's time for me to sell some of it.
My sales target is $100K, but for 50% of the total I have because of course I still expect something higher from it.

Most of the medical costs are covered by the government here. So I don't think I would sell bitcoin for medical treatment unless I had to spend more money on it. Family needs, daily needs so far are still met by monthly salary, but for something bigger I still have some savings. As for me, I would tend to sell gold instead of selling bitcoins when I have an urgent need.

I don't have a compelling sell price at whatever direction Bitcoin to me is an asset and since I am in for the long term I believe at whatever price am still good to keep holding and even if the price does a 10x price increase I won't concentrate on the price by DCA but Bitcoin worth at a long term based.

A lot of weak hands and passive traders will trade a long line to make maximum profits with the market volatility.

But for a regular holder, there is no set price but a set time and usage accumulating bitcoin at a constant pace is what guarantees profits on a long-term basis, not market volatility.

If I don't have any more income at work then I will sell some of my bitcoins for necessities but not all will be released except when the price is very high ($200k.

Of course I have done other options because I don't just invest in one asset, I have diversified in several other investments so that when there is an urgent need I can choose other investments to sell compared to bitcoin, for health it is clear that I have done insurance for the family so that if this becomes a problem in my life then the family has been covered by insurance.

I also won't hold bitcoin forever or be a strong hand, if I feel it's enough to be the best price then I will sell slowly but it's impossible for bitcoin to rise above $ 100k-$ 200k so for now it's better to be a hand strong for 5-10 years.

Does that mean that you think people who held through a cycle weren't smart?

Some people don't want to be exposed to exchanges and their KYC. Some people have no means to store 70k USD in cash and don't trust banks enough to move their lifetime savings there so they choose bitcoin. I wouldn't call that stupid.

The way I see it, I'm going to keep adding to my bitcoin collection as long as I can.
I'll probably sell some of it if we ever move above 100000 dollars to celebrate the event and buy myself a reminder, a gratification gift.

If we keep going lower than we are today I'll never sell. Low prices will not make me panic that I'm sure of. The only thing that will push me to sell is a large price spike.

that's why I always use cold money, aka unused money or money left over from my work salary, so it doesn't interfere with my savings in crypto and selling it only because of urgent family needs, well, even though it's also my own investment that I can sell at any time

but if I sell it when the market is bearish of course it makes me in a dilemma and it hurts if I sell it cheap but to help my family, but if I save my asset money with unused money and I still have money from my work I can provide for my family without having to interfere with my investment in crypto

invest in crypto with idle money or cold money  ;)

Is family or health challenge enough reason to?

In my case it is.
I can't enjoy any earning from my few satoshis If I die, obviously. Also, If I chose money over the health or well-being of those I love then I would probably spent years feeling guilty in remembrance of my poor choices.

I do consider myself to be a long time investor but I have got some priorities, if the money I need is not much I could ask for a loan and use Bitcoin as collateral if necessary, so I can continue holding.

If it has exceeded the threshold that is a requirement, of course they will definitely sell some of the bitcoins that have been obtained so far, maybe health is the main thing because it is important to maintain further life so if there is no effort they will definitely release the coins they have, but all have different way to do this difficult act.

I myself have to be able to have an emergency fund so that when needed I don't let go of the assets invested, while there is still income from our work, we have to be able to manage it properly, not just bitcoin, fiat or gold, you have to have it so that when you selling is not in a state of falling because gold has price stability.

On the other hand, of course I will defend it while other funds are still available so that they can be used for other urgent needs, so I try to be a strong hand.

Even though I am not an early adopter of bitcoin, I still have some shares in bitcoin. I buy bitcoin not to sell at anytime. If I am financially buoyant, I will not think of selling my bitcoin for any reason.
Apart from that, I do not intend to hold bitcoin till infinity. The bitcoin I own now is patiently waiting for the next halving bull run. If the bull happens and get a new ATH, I will sell. But if the bull fails, I will be very sceptical about bitcoin

The most common reasons I think would be job loss or health issues.  Health insurance rarely covers all the costs for major accidents and can leave people with piles of bills that can bankrupt them.  I would imagine in this scenario people would choose to sell their investments.  A loss of income can also force people to have to dip into their savings and do what they can to get by.  I think health issues that aren't covered fully by insurance is likely the #1 reason though.  Jobs can be replaced, but you can't wave a magic wand and make bills go away.

As much as possible I will not sell it at all, and I have thought about this before investing in bitcoin.
I need to have savings from my paycheck as well as for investments, which I do both after I prioritize my needs. And the reason I have to have savings is because someday I will need it for urgent needs or if something unexpected happens and I will use my savings without having to use my investment.
my goal of investing in bitcoin is long term and also do DCA every month when I receive my salary, and I believe in the future the price of bitcoin is very valuable considering what happened before when the price of bitcoin touched ATH just yesterday, and I don't want to regret when the price of bitcoin reached the price of 100K.

"Hold" is a very familiar word to us. Everyone who works with cryptocurrency knows this term. But no matter how easy the word hold is, actually holding is a very difficult task. When a trader or holder starts holding, there is an invisible pressure on him. But while those who financially independent are different, there will be a lot of pressure on others.

There are certain circumstances that will force you to sell your assets, including if a holder sells for family health reasons apart from such problems if some people buy asset with borrowed money but if its price falls he can no longer take the risk then such a situation can force him to sell. But strong holders can never sell their holdings in any adverse situation.

Nice conversation to understand the scenarios of everyone, how would they react to it. Bitcoin is slowly getting one of the excellent asset these days. The more we try to HODL it the more profitable it becomes with the time. Or may be this is just true for bitcoin.  :D

I think in my case I have already sold my bitcoin earnings as and when required by me or my family. Considering I am the sole earner in my house, the money is always short for me. So apart from my salary I always need to sell my bitcoin earnings and artwork earnings.

For me that happens to be the reason. In short family/daily expenses.

Every investor has a target when they will sell but if most will sell there bitcoin at the 100K mark. Currently I have two set of bitcoin one is for sale when the next halving happens and the other part is something I am eager to keep for years.

Although most of the smart investors have fiat or liquid cash enough to cater for them but we can't cheat nature. Emergencies like life threatening health issues which might be above my fiat capability might force me into selling but apart from a scenario like that I am going with my earlier plans

Yes, even the strongest hands do have some weakness that will force them to sell a fraction of their assets or worse, all of it.

The reasons might vary depending to the holder's situation, but for me, I do have something of my mind that will force me to sell some of it but I'm not inclined to disclose it for some beliefs and I'm not really hoping that it will happen somewhere in the future because that also means a bad news for me, for both of my assets and for the situation that will make me sell it.

I guess it does. I won't leave my family to suffer while I hold BTC that could help. I won't sell all but some that will cover whatever the situation is. And health issue is the main reason. If I can't live happily, then what's the point of having something which is no good for that.
That's just how I think.
But for newbie who just entered the market and bought BTC at current market price. If the price pumps now, then they will sell for sure. As they are not aware of what the future holds.

Both.
Especially when it comes if I need something to pay or to buy so if I get decent profit or just if I think I already have enough losses in my situation then I decide to sell my assets for the moment just to buy it later when I'm ready to do it again. Your health is the first to concern and mental or being emotional is a real thing in human and we should not ignore that. It depends on person but myself I do it really slow in my capability.

We face different problems everyday and we also solved problem everyday of our lives. We should just hope that our problem shouldn't be the ones that will make us withdraw our bitcoin and for urgent situation. There was a tough time in my life that I was so keen on touching my crypto assets which I've saved for years, but I still passed through that stage and there's every possibility that one can scale through any difficult stage in life if proper discipline and consistent is been exercised.

The only time i do see where i do make myself leaving no choice is on the time that i dont have anything money left from my pocket or my fiat savings had already gone and you are really that badly needing off some funds due to some health or other monetary problems which would be leaving no choice but to sell off those coins.I've been into those situations where i dont have choice but to sell, i would really be just putting up
into my mind that it is really just that better to spend those on something important rather than losing those coins into a hack or scams which it do really ease out that kind of stress because
you had sell out your stash. Its situational actually and each person does have different threshold when it comes to this manner.

No one ever wish to face financial problems  because it makes people to take decisions they never planned on a good day with clear eyes, apart from not having patients to hodl sometimes what makes some people to sell their bitcoin is because of financial problems that their is no other option to solve the problem. I was able to invest on bitcoin very well when I became financially stable,  if I was having lots of problems to solve with money I wouldn't have been able to stay focused on my investment. Serious financial problems can be limitation for every investment, I pray we never meet problems that will deprive us from investing.

Holding capacity was shown at the point of the way of holding at all the situation. Even at their critical situation and the money needed situation. After the investment to the crypto currency, people never allow his minds to sell at the critical situation. Because the holding at critical situation is need to hold for the longer period. The same May easy at the time of good economic situation.

Majority of the holders have got their targets set. Once this is reached, people start selling their cryptocurrency holdings. Apart from this, it is possible to see good number of people holding with certain time limits set. People continue holding and selling in between happens as a result of his/her opinion. Most of the time selling happens when there takes place unexpected medical needs.

While own or family health issues are probably the cases that fit best in the scenario of selling (especially "no matter what"), not everybody on this forum is on the "never sell" boat.
Not everybody have invested only some of the extra money into Bitcoin. Some even earn bitcoin and sell (some more, some less) to support themselves.

So was your question meant only to the hardcore HODLers or you've missed some of the other cases?

There are two reasons/situations in which I'd sell (at least some, not necessarily all):

A positive one:
Bitcoin reaches my price targets. The first one is 100k, but knowing how round numbers affect people I might sell some at 90k.

A negative one:
I run out of fat money with no way to make more, for instance if I went blind and I work a lot with computers, so that would complicate things.
Possibly if I needed expensive treatment for me or my closest family and there was no other way to raise money...

What will never force me to sell? Manipulation, FUD, a crash caused by exchanges and scammers.
For years I've had this "go big or go home" attitude towards bitcoin.

Emergencies - this is the most reason why holders sacrifice their coins and sell them at the not perfect time. It is really hard if you are not financially stable because sometimes we need to sacrifice something like in a situation where someone from our family needs immediate money support.
I have that experience but yes, we don't have any choice than committing debts that only add a burden to our financial status. That I see it was very important to save money for health/emergencies separate from our investment so our plan will never be affected.

Next ATH would be the ideal situation for me to sell my holdings. I've waited for too long already and looking for what bitcoin has already passed, I feel regretful for not selling on the last bull run which pushed btc to almost 70,000$. This market, like any financial speculative market, is too dirty and I'm tired of being on the hands of the whales, since they are the ones who manipulate prices and screw up every other investors around.

I'm not going to give up bitcoin, but I think it's time to give more importance to another sectors of my personal life, instead of relying everything on bitcoin.

So far, I can pass this situation by still holding my Bitcoin although it's a hard condition. Fortunately, I still could get money from other sources that didn't need to sell this asset. And I really hope that this will always happen, until the next bullish reaching my price target and expectation.

However, if this is about the condition that I may sell the coin is probably such an urgent and emergency condition that I cannot find money again or get any loans from my family to pay for some important things, especially health, disease, surgery, and other urgent condition. This will happen after I no longer can sell my offline assets. Beause by selling Bitcoin right now at a very low price, it means that I will lose my money worth that has been dropped.

This subject is widely discussed, in fact it is a myth to think that people do not sell bitcoin. Consequently the reason could be anyone, that is, why?... a Health issue or a need to sell for "something" would matter, that does not take away or detract from its value to the fact in itself of selling.

Selling, buying and Hodl are more common in the frequency of doing it than what is thought, it is the same fact to think that when bitcoin has a value of $100,000 nobody is going to buy it, or persistent that issue of thinking that hodlers (a large majority) are going to sell at that five figure price

You have to place yourself in any of the three situations mentioned and establish percentage priorities in each of them, that's all. Let's drop the myth that selling bitcoin is a cardinal sin.

There are 2 reasons that I simply sell my Bitcoin without no doubt.

1. Bullrun season.
If Bitcoin passes $80k, I will sell 80% of my Bitcoin.

2. Urgent matters.
When there are urgent matters like health problems that require a lot of money. I will consider selling some of my Bitcoin. I only have crypto investment now, I have no other investments. So, when my main money isn't enough to deal with urgent matters, I will no doubt selling some of my Bitcoin.

I mean I would certainly think, or at least hope that everyone is in the camp that if it came down to absolutely having no other choice but to sell to save yourself or a family member, that you would do it.  Me personally, I rarely sell any bitcoin and if I do it's for specific reasons that are beyond my control.

I certainly think there's less people "hodling" than there claims to be, but who knows.

If bitcoin do hit up its previous ATH then i might be selling it out and secure profits on the time that it had bought those coins on cheaper prices. Securing profits is one of the priority. Then next is to wait up for some

hard correction and or bearish moments and then repeat on the same thing.Just be sure that you had set aside with some amounts for you to be able to do so.Just like on others been saying that having some
urgent need of money is one of the most common reason for people to make out some sell.

There are indeed conditions which you cant really be able to avoid on selling out if you are really that in need and you do know that you do have something in storage.

Any people who have Bitcoin will force to sell his holdings if he runs out of fund to pay for his bills and other basic expenses.  The scenario of no one to go to for the family basic needs will surely force anyone to sell their holdings of BTC.  You cannot enjoy BTC when it rally if you are dead of starvation.  So I think that is the thing that will force anyone to sell their holdings of BTC.

Every investor has a target when they will sell but if most will sell there bitcoin at the 100K mark. Currently I have two set of bitcoin one is for sale when the next halving happens and the other part is something I am eager to keep for years.
Every investor dreams to sell their Bitcoin at $100k since the previous bullrun season. If BTC really achieves $100k mark in the next bullrun season, most investors surely sell their Bitcoin. There should be many investors to be rich in the next bullrun if everything happens as expected. However, no one knows whether BTC really achieves $100k or not. To be honest, I don't expect too much for $100k price, $80k - $90k is enough for me. If BTC price can increase to $80k - $90k, I am eager to sell most of my Bitcoin.

indeed we have to be strong in holding bitcoin, and of course we will sell it if there is a profit to be made. but sometimes we are forced to sell bitcoin even though we actually don't want to sell it if there is no profit to be made. and usually forced to sell bitcoin more generally for health, for food,
and one more thing that is unique, namely for wedding expenses and I have experienced selling bitcoin for wedding expenses.

Family or health are both extremely good reasons, thinking about something maybe a little more selfish I would probably say that if bitcoin reaches a very high value, and that amount of money would help me buying a house for example instead of renting one, well, at that point it would hard to keep hodling.

Some people like me treat Bitcoin as their emergency funds + investment at the same time.
I remember before when I needed some funds emergency and what I did was I just sold the Bitcoin I accumulated a long time ago, so even how much the price is, there's no matter at all.

For those that don't have HMO or insurance, it'll really be a way for them to be forced to sell or some sudden accident that huge money will be needed and they just can't pull any of their savings because there's no any.
And their savings have been put into bitcoin, so that reason makes sense to sell at that needed time because that's literally their savings and it's just sad if the market isn't that good by that time. I have done it before when I needed a budget to pay a mortgage and I'm in between during that time, happy because I'm able to pay the mortgage but also sad because I have to sell.

Health is our priority so that is the time you should be selling your bitcoin or part of it when you need money for buying medicines or paying hospital bills. For most of the holders that have been in bitcoin for a long time the only time they could sell is if they needed money or if it they already got profit on it since they knew that in the bear season there is always a comeback so their strategy is to just divert their attention to other things and will see the price in a couple of months so that they don't worry about its price. Mostly those newbies and don't know well bitcoin would panic sell on red days.

I agree with you because health and life safety are indeed more important than anything else.
One of the advantages of saving some of our money in the form of bitcoin crypto assets is the fast time when cashing out or withdrawing when we really need it in an emergency with a certain amount of money.
Meanwhile, if we keep fiat money at the central bank, it is indeed safer and there is no risk of losing our savings assets.
But in an emergency, we can't take all the money quickly because the central bank itself provides conditions if we want to withdraw large amounts of money, not to mention we still have to queue up for bank visitors.

I kept bitcoins that I bought at $300+ ...and only sold some of them, when the price hit $60 000+ .....and this was done in part, due to pressure from family members. The forced me to sell, because they said I would regret not selling, if the price goes down to zero.... so I sold some coins, just to shut them up.  ::)

Also, a gun to the head .... might also be a good motivation to sell more.... but let's not go there.  ::) I have a good 80/20 strategy, where I hoard 80% of the new coins I buy... and I use 20% of that on daily expenses. (mostly food)  ;)

psychologically people will sell whatever they have when urgent circumstances force it (families who fall sick, starve and pressure from debt collectors), i will also make that decision (sell the BTC that i hold) if i experience one of the things i mentioned earlier.  everyone has to move forward with life and no one is sure to insist on holding (in this case, stay hodl btc) onto the thing they can use in a moment of emergency.

1.If the Bitcoin price hits levels close to ATH(60-70K USD). I would sell a part of my BTC and keep the rest for a price level above 70K.
2.If the Bitcoin price drops down to 1K-5K USD(or below 1K). There's a really small chance for such price crash to happen, but it's not impossible.
3.If I am in urgent need of fiat money to cover some urgent expenses.
I can't think of any other conditions that would force me to sell BTC.
FUD news about BTC and crypto scams going bankrupt aren't enough to make me wanna sell my BTC. ;D

So far, that's what I've done for my family and I'm still grateful that I'm still holding on to most of my bitcoins. And I can buy more at times like this. I am not affected by market conditions but my family and their health is the main thing in my life so that is the perfect reason for me to sell bitcoins for them.

I remember having this conversation with my buddies last week. We were talking about the bitcoin halving that's coming and the impact it would have on those who have held strong. It was during this that the question popped up. What is some thing that could happen and you will be forced to sell  at least 40% of the coins that you have held? We talked about all the possible unforeseen circumstances that could occur and then we concluded that health or a life threatening illness of any member of our families is what can force to sell. You can always buy bitcoins but you can't always buy the a life back once it is gone.

Thete are many situations to consider, first is that when I think that Bitcoin market has a lot of bad news and it cannot be reverted. In that situation I will be able to sell my assets so that I my not loose much more money too.
And also next situation is with the futures trading, cause in futures trading we use more leverage and we have to sell our tokens so that I might be able to avoid much more loss.

There's only one such situation but I'm not even sure if I'd do it if it happened and it's bitcoin going to the moon. When I think of price levels I think that the higher we'd go the more I'd believe that exchanging bitcoin to fiat currency that gets weaker and weaker compared to bitcoin doesn't make sense. I'd probably buy myself the things I need to kill time and have fun and continue to hold.

E.g. at 100k I'd buy myself a new car, motorcycle, maybe build a garage for all that stuff. At 200k I'd buy a boat, at 300 probably move to a new house and each time it would maybe cost me 5% of my bitcoins. So at 500k I'd still have 75% of the coins I hold today and have all the things that I need. There would be no reason to keep selling.

There is no specific thing forcing me to sell Bitcoin until now (and hopefully never), because I still have a main job besides Bitcoin world.
Perhaps, you have a reason to hold and never touch your Bitcoin if possible as you have other sources of income. For those who have not and just relying solely on their crypto investment, in times of emergencies they have no option but to sell their holdings.
Basically, the reason why many people come here is to earn money in order to support their needs and other finances. In fact, investing is not all about holdings forever, there are times that we need so sell them whether it was for emergencies or for another investment.

The person may have a purpose for selling Bitcoin. For example, a person may want to earn money by selling Bitcoin or may want to invest in another investment vehicle by selling Bitcoin. When selling Bitcoin, the amount one wants to sell is also important. For example, a person may want to sell only a few Bitcoins and this may affect the reason for selling and when to sell. I always try to save cash, except when investing in cryptocurrencies. I spend my money carefully so I don't have to sell Bitcoin. I always try to have cash around the corner for unexpected health or family issues. We needed to do this before there was Bitcoin. I met the idea of a very long term investment with Bitcoin. I made a promise to myself that I must keep bitcoins for at least 20 years. Maybe i'll never be able to sell them while i hold the bitcoin. If there is a very high increase, like 1000%, then i say goodbye to some of them, if not all.

Bad circumstances or when I'm satisfied with the profit from holding. These two, I believe, are the only instances wherein I'd more likely sell. But more likely it would be bad circumstances. Emergencies happen without prior notice and since I am not that priveleged, there will be times I would be forced to pull out some of my assets but ofcourse with measures of the outcome such as would I regret it or not. Selling won't be a bad thing if you really needed to. We have different tolerance with the market and capabilities as investors; some would be still able to hold despite of bad situations and some won't, and that's just okay as long as your actions would be validated by you yourself.

I would probably sell at least some of my bitcoins in order to pay off a mortgage or keep myself and my family safe if faced with those situations. But I'm not sure if that's the kind of extreme circumstance you were thinking about and I don't think many people are faced with this kind of situation. I mean, if you're faced with the choice of keeping yourself and your family safe, it's probably not an issue of whether you should sell your valuable assets or not. You would probably do whatever you could to make sure that your family is safe and protected.

In my particular case, I think it would be quite difficult for me to be forced to sell, but never say never. I have been following a wealth building plan for some time now, and with good income from various sources, an emergency fund for contingencies/emergencies, and investments other than Bitcoin, the likelihood of me being forced to sell is minimal, and I can't imagine what the specific situation would be where I might be forced to sell.

In the end, bitcoin is just an investment, an asset that serves our lives, and when we need money, we will have to sell it. Bitcoins will be useless if they don't help us in difficult or unusable times in life.
It is true that selling bitcoin at a lower price than expected will make us regret, but we should keep in mind that sometimes there is more to hold than bitcoin, so I will sell when there are no better options. And I will buy back bitcoins when I have money, as long as I'm healthy, it's not too hard to buy back bitcoins.

economic situations are literally different and everyone has different goals.
in this case I'm going to talk about the pressure that will make me sell some of my bitcoins.
at first I ventured to invest in bitcoin after I had several small businesses that were able to provide profits that I could put into long-term bitcoin assets. and my business is controlled by some of my own family members.
so that family or health conditions will not be able to pressure me to sell my bitcoin assets. and under no circumstances will it influence me to sell my bitcoins before my set target.
but a situation that could force me to sell all my bitcoin assets is when the price reaches ATH from the previous bullish, it will be like telling me to sell all my bitcoins and start buying again once the bearish season comes and so on it will be like that.

the conclusion from me, I will not sell anything that I currently hold before the target that I set.

A massive drop in price will cause anyone to sell. But for me it depends on the urgency and how late am I. For instance, cashing out on all your bitcoins at the first few days of a crash is sure to secure you most of your funds provided it doesn't plummet, but if I were to be very late to the game, I'd rather just keep it in and wait for another bull market to come around and pump the price of my assets. It's all about how much I can still salvage, if there's any. There are also regulation issues, if my country bans the use of crypto to the point of lack of access to my funds, I'd be forced to pull all my assets out too.

Most people will sell in times of need. If you need a life saving surgery or someone you love does; then almost anyone will be prepared to sell. Even those, that are in this thread saying they'll never sell for anything. I've been involved in Bitcoin for a while now, and it's become a huge part of my life. However, I'm certainly not married to the idea of it. Even if a altcoin came along which significantly improved on Bitcoin, I'd be open to changing. That's as simple as it gets; I'll hold Bitcoin for as long as I need too. If something better comes along or I need it for something important, I'll sell.

I think some of us get a little bit too attached to it, and sort of look at it as a miracle cure, and therefore will hold it until their last days. However, at the end of the day; it's just a currency, and you can't take it with you. So, make the most of it while you can, and if that means taking it out, and enjoying a holiday. There's nothing wrong with that.

Usually, I sell when there is a good profit or when I need it for life. Otherwise, I have no plans to sell my holding. If there are no other options to live lives, I will sell my holding. That situation has not yet occurred. Because, in addition to my crypto holdings, I always keep some emergency funds in fiat. As a result, in an emergency, I can use my fiat holding. I store my holdings in a ledger so that I can't sell them whenever I want. And I bought coins when I had extra money that I wouldn't need for a few years.

I believe in Bitcoin as money. Of course, it's nice to hodl some if it's possible, but even an investment should be something one can afford to lose, and as for money, it is meant to be spent. I think that if a person is in need of money to buy something, but only has BTC, this person should use BTC or sell it for fiat to use fiat. Even if it's not something urgent but to purchase something that will make a significant life improvement / make someone else happy / help improve or maintain good relationships, these are all good reasons to sell when needed, regardless of the price. Not everything in life is about making profits. That's the general guideline I follow myself.

When it comes to the point where health problem and some other problems attached with the family then that would leave me no choice but to sell off those coins. What those  profits or money for
when you do lost someone or even you would really be that too sickly on yourself? Pretty sure you wouldnt really be that making things complicated if you do know that you do have
money behind. It would be useless and you would really be regretting if things turns out to be bad and you do know that you could have at least solve out the problem

It is as if some people here have no vision, plans or targets but just holding. In my opinion, nothing supersede health. If my family is already in danger, like having some serious health issues, I think that’s enough for me to sell some of my bitcoin even if my target goal price has not yet achieved. Profits are useless without the presence of my family, as i’m into bitcoin investment not only for my own self but definitely for the whole family. Even the strongest holder out there would sell their Bitcoin at any point of time obviously. Let's say you're about to lose your house and you kept your pride as a strong holder to never ever sell at any point. Would it be worth for you to be homeless and keep the pride of being a strong holder?

If Bitcoin goes up 1000% from today's value, I'll feel compelled to sell a small part ;)

Healthcare is mostly covered here by mandatory insurance.
If that will happen, then no need to think twice, i will sell immediately some of my bitcoin.  As long as the price is very much tempting, i will have to bite for it, than to never sell at all when suddenly bitcoin price drops even more at its bottom and all we gained are regrets. However, when it comes to healthcare, if the insurance is not enough to cater to all expenses, then i think selling a small portion is not that bad at all.

I do sell bitcoin alright, even at the present time but its definitely just what I need and when it seems to be just the only option to getting what I need done, done.
Other than that, hodlibg still remains the language and I speak/understand it good too.

Most of us might think it's not easy to hodl and it just might be that if you sole believe but, having a job or some other investments is one way to take your mind off your hodlings.

I guess if they reach their profit goal or if they see the price has went up significantly enough, this will want them to sell their coins. At least I would sell and keep some profit since based on history, once the price skyrockets, a correction always takes place. Only those who invested money that they can't afford to lose or money they will need for something, feel forced to sell when they see the price crash or when they need it for something emergency.

Is family or health challenge enough reason to?
in essence, strong bitcoiners hold bitcoin or defend bitcoin, when their needs are always fulfilled, their savings are still sufficient, and they still have jobs running.
if their needs are not fulfilled, surely they will be forced to sell bitcoins.

but that's what investment is for, when we need it, investment can be used.

Everyone will have a reason and a time when they want and/or need to sell Bitcoin.

The reasons could be either a price point or a necessity or an emergency.

If no-one is selling, others cannot buy. Selling and buying Bitcoin is part of the ecosystem
and there will always be opportunities to buy back what you sold.

I actually never thought I would sell my Bitcoin for urgent conditions.
Maybe I sound idealistic and overconfident, but I personally believe in bitcoin for my investment for the long term.
To be honest, I will continue to collect little by little until I collect a lot.
And waiting for Bitcoin to go to the next ATH and make a profit.

If it is due to an emergency such as health or urgent need, it is unlikely that I will sell my bitcoins.
Because I personally have prepared savings that I have set aside every month for emergency needs.

In a situation, when some of my relatives needs money for expensive operation, we dont have enough fiat money to cover expenses, without hesitation I would immediately sell crypto. In other words, life or death situation will force me to sell. And, probably, if I would run so much out of money, I would sell a bit of crypto just to survive until I find a solution.

Maybe that is fine if you're not entirely throwing your entire savings to Bitcoin. It's like those investments that you would just forget that you even invested to back then for no reason and it ended up to be a long-term investment. There would be an obvious point that you would sell. There is no market if everyone is just buying.

That's at least a reasonable way of managing the risk of not touching your Bitcoin over any unexpected outcomes in your daily life.

Some time when facing with unsupportive situation we have to sell Bitcoin and altcoin assets although have going drop, not have enouth fiat recovery for daily day needed make us have little option except have to sell cryptocurrency assets although possibility get loss more. I think lucky for every holder have enough back up with fiat and take longer time holding until Bitcoin and altcoin assets recovery to higher price.

I am still holding with my cryptocurrency assets right now and hope can recovery as soon possible, actually still not have force situation right now and keep patience waiting for Bitcoin and altcoin back to higher price.

When there is no income to fulfill the needs I have then it is the time to sell some of assets to have liquidity which includes bitcoin as well.

If bitcoin price soared too high than I have imagined will surely force me to sell all or a part from holding.

For emergency needs like healthcare or for something you need money immediately then bitcoin will also be in ny list because it can be liquified in minutes.

In any case, as long as I need money urgently and I don't have the option to make a loan, then of course I will sell a few percent of my holdings. Is this a problem? No, and I don't think so.

The main think is that all of us need money and in turn we may need to consider selling investment assets when we need it. As long as it doesn't sell on the dips, then I guess it's safe to sell some of it. But if at the same time my portfolio value drops, then I might need to consider other options. I have a few grams of gold, it could be my top choice instead of selling bitcoin on dips.

Presumably when Bitcoin reach 100× I may consider selling some that are if I know the price will decline below that, but aside from that, I will not sell any portion of my BTC holding no matter what happens I am among the steel hands holders.

Instead of selling off at any market turn, it's better to give you a Bitcoin starch long-term plan, let's say after 2027 I may have a change of mind and decide to sell off a few percentages but not up to 50% of my entire holding.

There are criteria where a person is forced to sell their Bitcoin holdings.

1.  If they don't have money and the last fund remaining is in Bitcoin
2.  When the target price is reached.
3.  When the holder wanted to cut losses especially when it is programmed in the trading bot
4.  When new ATH is recorded.

For me, apart from being in need of money for my health or that of my family members or friends. I don't think there is any other reason that can make me want to sell my Bitcoin in a haste, because one beautiful thing about the fluatuating nature about the Bitcoin market is that when it falls, it rises back at it's appropriate time.

There are many reasons why people might sell their valuable assets, including bitcoin. For example:

- Needing to liquidate some assets in order to pay off debts or purchase something important; or to meet other financial obligations.

- Someone might decide to sell their assets due to changes in their personal circumstances, such as a change in their financial situation, or a change in their interests or priorities.

- An investor may choose to sell assets if he believes the value is likely to fall or wants to take advantage of a hot market.

- Someone may decide to sell assets in order to diversify their portfolio and spread risk across multiple investments.

In the end, the decision to sell your precious possessions is a highly personal one, and should be based on your unique circumstances and financial goals. It's crucial to weigh the pros and cons of selling your assets and to seek out expert financial advice if you have any doubts or concerns. Or, you know, you could just flip a coin. That is always a solid investment strategy.  ;)

There are other ways to spend your money. But what about those who own little money? When he needs money urgently but they don't have gold like you to buy it and all his money will be deposited in his profit portfolio and his money will be less than before then he will not be able to withdraw money from there because he is already in loss and remain in loss situation No one will remove his money. What will be his way then?

If you have been responsible in the way you invest your money then only a true emergency could force you to sell some of your coins.

Now even if I consider myself a responsible person there are without a doubt scenarios which could force me to sell my coins, and the most likely of all of those possibilities would be some sort of medical emergency, after all there are many diseases which do not present symptoms until you are very ill, so if that we are to happen I will probably need to sell some of my bitcoin to get the best possible treatment I can.

Of course, there is no reason to keep bitcoin forever while our health is in trouble, our loved one is in danger, or in need of money. Bitcoin is the vehicle that serves our lives, we do not serve bitcoin. If I have financial difficulty and have no other way, I will not hesitate to sell my bitcoins to solve the problem or help my loved one. Bitcoin can be traded easily anywhere, anytime, as long as we have the money, so selling or holding bitcoin is not so important in difficult times.

I'm not sure, maybe in a positive way, when the price hits your target or way beyond your target, coz I know some strong hodlers may not be easily convinced to sell when they see Bitcoin continued to rise.
On the other side, the negative side, maybe a serious illness that requires expensive maintenance. You know life is more precious than any kind of asset in this world. The best thing these assets can do you. They're all gonna be useless FOR YOU, if you die anyway lol.

When my investment continues to lose money, first look at what the market is doing. If I find that everyone is falling, or although the overall market is not bad, but all the selected sectors have fallen sharply, then my investment will suffer a loss or it is normal. In this case, everyone can be patient.

If my spare funds are depleted, I may sell a small amount of investment to obtain funds.

Emergency I guess? I'm still looking at Bitcoin as an investment so in general, I'd probably pull it out in the next bull run or after. I haven't exactly taken into consideration when I should start holding it for the sake of making my own bank or as a currency though(As I've said, I'm more invested in it as an investment right now), which would probably lead to a situation where I'm not going to be forced to sell unless used as a payment.

What I would not consider when selling is the price though, specifically if it goes down, since it may be an investment, but it's one where I'm capable of waiting for a long time (and I can afford to live without it as well).

In addition, if I encounter emergencies, such as the need to buy food or if someone wants to claim my possessions and is pressuring me to do so, I will also sell some Bitcoin because I hate embarrassment. Finally, if my market target is reached, I will also sell some Bitcoin. I am just holding Bitcoin because of only to make profit but  also to store the value of money in bitcoin incase of some emergencies.

Cases like this are inevitable. Even myself too, if something happens like this and yet your available money cannot cater to what is really needed, I will not make other choices but to sell instantly my bitcoin if that will only save my loved one. The only reason we invest is not just financial freedom, but also to make us always prepared when unforeseen events suddenly strike us.

Preserving what we already got and try adding more to our wallet is more likely easier to do when you already been here for such a long time, knowing that the bounce will take place and the time frame is unpredictable. Sometimes it's mostly depends on how you anticipate the market and how good your reaction in both bull and bear seasons.

Selling because of fear might be the influence or factors that are really hard to resist, but if you learn how to manage and work it out, the chance of achieving such goals is really beneficial to your investment.

But spending it on our health aspect is priceless, as this is the most important thing in life.
How can you spend your btc or other coins if you are already in your deathbed?
So yes, if we need it for our health matters, why not? Money can always be earned once we get better.
Also, for me is if selling some of my coins will clear all my debts, why not?

I will sell bitcoin when I need money for health or any urgent work and at any price. Simply because if we have no other choice, don't hesitate to sell our bitcoins or assets. And it's easy to buy back bitcoins, it's not so scarce that you can't repurchase it later. Bitcoin's supply is limited that doesn't mean it's difficult to own, as long as you are determined, you can do anything.

It has already happened a few times already, when health issues arise you do not consider investment or money or anything else, you think about healing and becoming better. I personally had some health issues, family members also had health issues, and we had to cash in our investments. Not just me, they all did and right now we are all worse in financial situation and closer to poverty, but do you know what it provided?

Nearly zero debt, we have just a tiny bit (a few hundreds dollars here and there) and healthy after so many years of battling with sickness. Not everyone has the same chance, many people lose a lot of money and be in tens of thousands of dollars in debt, crypto allowed us to not have that.

Majority would be on health care issues on which on someone doesnt really have any choice but to sell out some part of their holdings.Yes,its true that this would really be giving out some bad feeling
since you had failed on holding strong with your assets but there are situations in life which would leaving up no choice but to sell it out in outmost need.

Well, people would not hesitate to sell if there is a very high price surge for bitcoin as that’s what we’ve been waiting the whole time. However, the rate of chance for this to happen might be very low this time, as we are still waiting for bitcoin halving to finally see a good progress for bitcoin. But in instances where my family’s health will be at risk, regardless if the price of bitcoin is still not impressive, I would not doubt selling them so I can save my family’s health.

Anytime that I would face some financial problem and I don't have other choice then that is the situation that would force me to sell some of my crypto.
It doesn't matter if it is family or health issue as long as I don't have any other choice to provide I would sell to survive.
I would hold my crypto as much as I could as long as I could, but when the time comes that I don't have any way to survive or surpass the situation without selling my crypto then I would just sell it.

everyone naturally wants to sell their Bitcoin when their initial goal is achieved whether it's because they have reached their personal target or when Bitcoin reaches a new ATH. but the OP's question really indirectly makes us think again that life is not easy, sometimes we don't know that in the future we may be faced with problems that require us to be able to give up something valuable like our Bitcoin assets.
of course everyone will be forced to sell their Bitcoin assets when there is a very emergency and there is no other way but to sell our property or even Bitcoin assets.
I can't say yet because I haven't experienced a situation where I have to sell my Bitcoin, for health problems it's possible that I won't sell my Bitcoin because I have set up separate funds for health problems.
but maybe if the condition is related to our life and death problems or our family, of course I will not hesitate to sell it. Bitcoin is indeed a valuable asset but in my opinion family is more valuable than all the material things in this world.

Usually it would really be on health issues on which we do really need up some money which it would really be able to force us on snipping out some amounts from our long term hold or stash which i could say that

it isnt really that bad on considering that you do have savings at least.Yah, it does really give out that kind of regrettable feeling but theres nothing we can do because we do know that we do have a savings
which it is really just intended for these type of situations which you dont really have that choice but to spend it up.

This is the importance on having a savings or investment which you could really be having a solution or back up plans if you do have this.

I guess there’s no reason to chose or doubt, because when time comes that our family’s health will be at risk, though it’s not the best time to sell, but it’s definitely the best we can do than to live with regrets in the years ahead. And to think that we are here to invest and aim to accumulate more profits so we can prepare our finances whatever unforeseen circumstances that may come. And when it’s actually happening, no need to hesitate if it’s a good time to sell, just sell your coins so you can save your family’s in danger.

Definitely right, theres no other important things when the family matters involve in one situation. We dont need to hesitate on selling our coin, specially when it will be going to used to support our family. It may not be the best time to sell but that would be the best thing we can do for them. Just think of it, we can still earn money after that, but once we lose our loveones, they cant be back anymore.

I agree with your submission mate. There is a saying that health is wealth. Accumulating or hold even during the hard times is not more investment but wickedness. You can not boast of holding Bitcoin during sickness or maybe after death (God forbid). There's absolutely nothing wrong doing away with what you have to gain what you want. I believe that we all saving to satisfy ourselves someday of hardship.

When the entire debt value equals with the amount of bitcoin I hold, I'll go for selling my holding. Having debt is always a pressure, which is quite hard to overcome. This makes life harder, because we can't plan for betterment of our life. With what we earn we need to repay and once it gets completed we can move to the next level of living with our earning.

For now the economic conditions too bad. This makes life even worse and more suffering. In these days accumulating as much possible could help at the upcoming large scale bullish move around the days of halving. For now my focus is upon the upcoming halving.

if that's what remains of the reserve money that is owned then selling it even in a bearish situation, would not be a wrong decision, because we are saving lives for our family members. when we are sincere to do it then God will replace it with a bigger one. indeed in that situation we are faced with indecision, considering that we feel that it is not the right time to sell it when viewed from an analysis perspective, but after all, lives are more valuable than material things

I would say if there is no requirement of money, then hold the coins as much as you can. These bitcoins are very much valuable. The reason I am saying this is that because, Bitcoins are limited in numbers, and as the time will pass the demand for the coin will increase. So the more time you hold, the more valuable it will become. So if there is no urgency of money, and you can survive without selling the Bitcoins, then kindly do it and hold the Bitcoins. I will only sell my coins, if there is some emergency funds required and I don’t have any other source to fund the emergency, then only I will sell my hard earned coins. I think many can relate with my situation.

In my case my all income i.e. all payment I received that is on bitcoin so to fill my needs and my families needs I have to sell bitcoin . Also, I rarely try to touch bitcoins deposited for holdings. But sometimes due to very emergency issues I had to touch my bitcoin.  But if there is no health issue yet, I will not sell bitcoin.

In my opinion, if you hope that Bitcoin will become the peer to peer payment method for the masses, leaving your btc still, then you are wrong.  Who should start spending and running btc if not us?  How do you think mass adoption will happen?

at the current date it is still premature to talk about mass adoption, I agree with your thinking but it is an event that today is still in its primordial state, not all countries of the world accept payments with bitcoins, so many of us find ourselves having to sell for $ or € before being able to use btc, then in the specific case he said he had to use them for health needs, he didn't use them directly but it is as if he had done it by selling them for $ or in another FIAT. obviously we would never have mass adoption if we all keep them in wallets. there is a need for merchants, companies and individuals to start accepting payments in btc first

If we do try to look at on how small we are in overall adoption then we could really say that we are still on an early phase on which it is really just that not that late for us to accumulate more Bitcoin considering
that overall adoption isnt really still something that been scattered every corners of the world on which it is really just that right that we should act now while the price is still that low. Its not necessary
to buy a whole coin since we could really do it on fractions. In speaking about the condition basing up on what op mentioned about selling out on a particular situation then it isnt really bad
specially if we dont have anything something to do or solutions on which you cant really avoid on having this last resort for you to take on.

Three scenarios will always make me sell:

1. If bitcoin increases in value so much that it would set me for life
2. If bitcoin decreases in value that the selling pressure is immense I couldn't keep it anymore.
3. If a significant portion of the demographic sells their bitcoin which is still tied to number two but in most cases selling pressure isn't linked to a lot of people selling.

In any case, I'd try my hardest to hold my bitcoins, especially after the fact that I hoarded these and worked for this bag for a long time. To sell is to admit defeat if I were to sell at a very low price. But not gonna lie, there's been times in the past when I'm forced to empty my bags.

I think that if you want to achieve a circular economy in your locality, you need to spend your bitcoins, which don't necessarily have to be spent and not repurchased, but rather help move bitcoin liquidity in such a way that anyone can spend it in turn.

Which kind of situation will force you to sell?

Is family or health challenge enough reason to?

If I am in a situation where just selling my bitcoin could be the only solution, then I will feel tempted to sell too, but first I will see if I could get a fiat loan and use the bitcoin as collateral.

Family is important, such as in terms of health, so I say yes.

I think some would argue that before you invest in bitcoin, you must be sure that you have the emergency fund that you can use when these unforeseen events happen. But, sometimes there are instances that costs of these can't cover the fund you have, wherein I think this is the time for you to sell the investment you have in bitcoin. It is much better for you to sell it than make yourself be in the situation of loaning since this is much harder to handle.

Well said, we live for the family and for that we need to spare anything we have. In all our hard times our family used to be with us. When something had happened and they were not in a situation to handle it, then it is our sole responsibility to help them someway. In such situation if I don't have the fund and the only available thing is my bitcoin holding I'll sell and find a solution for it.

Bitcoin is not divine, and it couldn't be more important than our loved ones. To me, bitcoin is like any other asset, sold and used when needed and easily bought back when money is available. It is nothing compared to the love of family or human life. Many people are valuing bitcoin more than their loved ones, bitcoin is not made to divide people or make people more evil.

Of course, the family is very important and you need to take care of it., but before selling, you need to look at all possible options to find money to solve the problem that has arisen. If you have a job, you can ask for a salary in advance, or you can take a loan to pay it off from the next salary. I think there are ways that we can get by without having to sell our investments.

well, selling some bitcoins when the price is on the rise is a natural thing. i will also do the same. selling some bitcoins for profit and prizes, it is probably the case that most people will sell some of the bitcoins they have.
Also, I might also sell my bitcoins when I'm really broke, and that might be the only way. Circumstances sometimes push someone to sell their assets, even the most important ones. it is in this condition that I most often sell the bitcoins that I have.

A situation that has to do with life and death can prompt me to sell some coin. But to be on the safer side it is best for hodlers to have other source of income so the don't get compelled to sell, which i can attest to. In life there will always arise situations that will make us want to sell some coin but if there are other means by which this problems can be solved the pressure of selling will be minimal and it will more easier and convenient to hodl until a 100% profit is made from the initial capital

2. If bitcoin decreases in value that the selling pressure is immense I couldn't keep it anymore.

Actually, this stage is a part of the Bitcoin price cycle, and it has happened many times. The last one was at the end of 2022, but as we can see, Bitcoin has recovered a bit and it's almost double that price. Therefore, I don't agree with you regarding this point, because that's what Bitcoin whales want us to do.

To me, the only case that makes me sell my Bitcoin holdings is emergency needs. For example, a reason related to my health or the health of one of my family. Another reason is suffering the result of a bad natural crisis like what happened recently in Turkey and Syria. A lot of people were left in the open air without a house or food. Although I live in Syria, I luckily wasn't affected by the earthquake, but can see and feel the pain of those affected.
Some people might find better investment opportunities in real life, and that might be a possible reason, as some investments have durable income, but in this case, I would sell a part and leave a part.

This is partly true but I remind you that humans are curious by nature and it would be enough to talk about the advantages of Bitcoin to a trader to ignite the spark.  Moreover, to give him the confidence that he can cash in his shitty Fiats at any time, one could reassure him by exchanging his btc/fiat receipts between local Bitcoiners, for example if he wants to have $50 and has enough btc to be able to sell someone from the area passes by and does the peer-to-peer exchange.  easy.

There are so many situations that can make one sell his/ her Bitcoin, especially here my country Nigeria you can easily get into situations that can cost your life.
I will give one example of situations that can make me sell my Bitcoin if I had one.
1. Health issues
I can not have a Bitcoin in my wallet while I have health issues that is a threat to my life, some claim to be strong holders according to OP but if this holders get into health situations they will have no option than to sell their bitcoins because it is only some one who is alive that reap the fruit of their labours. If you die holding your Bitcoin mean while you can sell this same Bitcoin and save your live I consider it to be suicide. Some people hold bitcoins not because they are Bitcoin lovers but just to impress other who also deal with bitcoins or people in the forum, just to prove themselves strong holders of BTC, am writing from experience.
Again i say HEALTH ISSUES is one of the major issues that can make me sell my Bitcoin.

I always sell some during raging bull markets & then buy back when the price crashes in harsh bear markets. Being forced to sell implies selling in unfavourable situations. To answer the question, reasons that would force me to sell would be something like losing my job or a large medical bill that my insurance wouldn’t cover, maybe large structural damage to a home from a lightning strike (freak situations).

It’s never good to sell in emergencies but I guess if you have no other way of paying for something then you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. I would hate to have to sell a large % of my holdings during unfavourable market conditions though.

I think it ultimately comes down to an individual’s situation and their own personal threshold. If a person is in a position where they need to raise funds in order to cover an emergency expense related to family or health, then selling some of their bitcoins may be a reasonable option. But for someone in a more stable financial situation, it may be possible to weather any economic discomfort without selling. Ultimately, it is up to each individual to decide what level of pressure is sufficient to warrant selling some of their bitcoins.

We do have our own threshold on which we do end up on selling our coins because there are no other ways which for us to be able to solve out the problem that we are currently facing on.We know that

we dont hold the future on which it is really that there are moments or times on where you do end up on having that financial problem which you dont have any choice but to make use on what you have
saved all over the years.Yes, it does give out that bad feeling on spending those but be thankful that there's something you could spend out and didnt end up on taking up some loan.
It is really hard to resist on doing such act specially if you do know deep inside that you do have the money to spend.

I think the only reason to sell BTC for people who are into crypto because of the tech is when they need money ASAP and it's a question of life and death, but some people will do it just because they achieved their investment goals.

I agree with your opinion, and like that friends ,,,
and indeed most people sell btc when they have reached their investment goals, but there are also many people who sell btc for social purposes such as helping earthquake flood victims and so on.
but usually the factors that make people sell bitcoin are usually health problems, and the fall of the economy that makes a lot of people sell btc, but for beginners it's usually too panic because the price of btc goes down to even sell btc. actually very many factors that cause people to sell btc.

There is many situations that will make me forced to sell my Bitcoin. If I am in need of fiat it is very nice to know I have saved up my Bitcoin to sell it but I do not like to do this. There is not many bad feelings more then selling your Bitcoin at a loss.
A situation that will force me to sell will be when Bitcoin going on another big 'bull run'. I have gone through many of these cycles now so in the future I will take some profits and then buy back Bitcoin when the price corrects. When the next Bitcoin halving takes place I will also sell some.

There is only one reason why I will press the sell button 🔵

If there is a big pump on Bitcoin price, well, that is the alarm for selling time, because we know that it is always the right time to take profit when a massive pump happens, only a fool will see a massive pump and still do nothing, because there is a chance that the pump will correct itself soon.

And if a dump happens, let's say, Bitcoin goes down to 8,000$ I don't see any reason to sell because there must be a reason why the dump takes place, and most bitcoin dump happens because of very bad news about the economy or the government find a way to manipulate the market

At this rate, I will press the buy button 🟢

Because what goes down will surely go up when the right time comes, Bitcoin at 8000$ will become very attractive to the big whales and even the government, I don't want to believe that the government isn't buying Bitcoin even though they appear not to like the technology.

your observation is more than correct and I share it, but there is a significant problem, finding who is willing to accept Bitcoin as an alternative payment method, there are someone who is willing but they are often present in large cities, small ones for the moment are the most problematic ones! there is an urgent need to orangepill as much as possible to obtain mass adoption

This is partly true but I remind you that humans are curious by nature and it would be enough to talk about the advantages of Bitcoin to a trader to ignite the spark.  Moreover, to give him the confidence that he can cash in his shitty Fiats at any time, one could reassure him by exchanging his btc/fiat receipts between local Bitcoiners, for example if he wants to have $50 and has enough btc to be able to sell someone from the area passes by and does the peer-to-peer exchange.  easy.

is easy to say, but in practice it is not so simple. it is certainly a viable road but it must not be the only one available. the more people become enticed the better it will be for everyone, I'm going back to the topic, if there are no new people ready to enter the crypto world and if there are no other ways for an individual to use Bitcoins to pay for any good or service, all that remains is to be able to sell your btc via cex or dex and we will stay away from satoshi's vision

I may not have had the experience of owing bitcoin at the early stage but ever since I got to know about bitcoin and how it works, I have had the opportunity to buy some not just for myself alone but for my unborn children which I took a decision not to mention it to anyone else unless my children when they are old enough to know about financial education.

Regardless of my health condition the only reason why I can sell some of my bitcoin is when am financially down, with money I can get a good health care but without money life will be miserable and when it gets to the level where I don't have money to take good care of myself, I can think of selling some from my holding though it's going to be a difficult decision to make but I can still buy more when I get back financially again.

I have stop loss and target profit, I'll only sell my bitcoins if the price of bitcoin got hit by my stop loss or my target profit. Why is that? because I created an organized plan that is backed by my own rules. Right now, the bitcoin is in the bullish state where the price is continuing to increase but there are still exterior factors that can invalidated my bias so I have cut loss strategy. If the price of bitcoin suddenly reverse where the sentiment became bad, then for me it is better if I will sell all my bitcoins because there is a high chance that the price may go cheaper. This is just a scenario in my head and it is a situation for me that I can say that I'm force to sell my bitcoins because for me it is better if I'll buy again in the consolidation.

The another scenario in my head is when my target profit achieved, as for now; my insight is that the bullish will be good for this year wherein there is a chance that the bitcoin may beat its previous ATH. My target profit will be above ATH if that situation happen.

I have seen people in the discord where they are pretty much solid not selling even their altcoins. They drop 70% already but some of them are proud to say they have diamond hands.

If BTC price goes $1M I think many will be forced to sell, yet also happy to do so. The institutions should just pump BTC so that we will all be forced to dump our BTC. For me, I might just sell also if BTC is going to be banned.

If one holds the bitcoin then nothing will force him to sell his bitcoin if he has planned for the emergency situations. Therefore it is necessary to invest that part of money in Bitcoin which you think that is not in use and you have keep another portion of money for the emergency purposes.

One another point to be successful in investment is that a person should diversify his investment. Two or three coins should be selected which are successful in future so therefore you can avoid selling bitcoin in emergency situations.

I think if bitcoin gives you double profit then at that situations selling of some bitcoin to reap the benefit is good decision but selling whole of it does not suited well because at some stages of life you will have surely higher return than this.

Everyone treats bitcoin differently so they have different baselines for that.

Someone will not feel compelled if their initial goal of investing in Bitcoin has been achieved, they will definitely be happy to sell it because they feel that they have made a lot of profit and it is in accordance with their original purpose of investing in Bitcoin.
You are right there are many factors that will influence us to be forced to sell our Bitcoin. If someone feels compelled to sell Bitcoin, of course they are definitely in a very urgent condition and there is no other way or choice but to sell their Bitcoin to overcome the problem or disaster they are experiencing.
If beginners sell their Bitcoins just because they are panicked, I think this is a different context, they are forced to sell because of panic and their ignorance of the market and have no emergency reasons.

Selling when the price is not in anyone's favor is actually not cool, but given that family and health are involved, there is no other option, so I don't mind doing so. I love my family and what is the point of having bitcoin when my family is in dire need, and like they say, health is wealth," the two aforementioned subjects are crucial and cannot be ignored. I also know that my family will support me if I ever find myself in a similar situation. After all, as the saying goes, one good turn deserves another. So the truth is i can sell if it involves family and health.

The situation that would force me to sell bitcoin is that someone in my family was ill and I can't find a way to solve it, then I would sell it because it's the only way I can help and that without knowing the price of bitcoin even if it's down or up, I don't care, I believe that the values that one has that were instilled in them is what moves everything, and if there is a great help like that of bitcoin it is something that I would not miss out on, Bitcoin is a way of living life and if it is to save lives it is better.

I guess seeing our family suffering from any health condition is already enough to consider selling some of our coins. Our investment will seem useless if it cannot help our loved ones in the first place. After all, I decided to invest not just to help myself, but also to give help and comfort to my family, and if I fail on that, it’s like I lost the purpose why I have done investing in the first place. So for me, I won’t never doubt selling my coins as long as it can guarantee the healing of my family from its worst health condition.

Maybe you can share the link here so that we can check that out and maybe ask those people a proof if what they are telling is real and not just a brag because holding for too long is not easy and seeing 70% 50+ decline in our portfolio can make us panic already. We can likely sell to save the rest of our assets especially if most of it are altcoins because their future can be less brighter than in Bitcoin.

Now when it comes to selling, we are lucky if we can see $1M before we sell but I think people will already unload once we hit $100k or more. Institutions won't just pump BTC only for the sake of the public but they can invest because they are thinking about their future. If BTC is going to be banned in your country, there might be a chance for it to be unbanned so I wouldn't really sell my coins.

I never ask God to put me in a bad situation that will force me to sell my bitcoin, even though we all know that we are not God and that everyone may encounter challenges that could force them to do so. Instead, I look for extremely challenging circumstances, such as the need to sell my bitcoin in order to pay for bills or deal with personal issues, or when the price of bitcoin is high enough to make me feel like doing so.

I don't think a smart trader would sell his bitcoin holdings because of some silly matter. It is the job of a smart trader to complete every strategy not only in Bitcoin but also in trading. Many times it is seen that we cannot control our emotions and break the strategy by watching the ups and downs of the market.
Selling bitcoins is always a bit of a bad feeling for me but it's my regular job. But holding bitcoins is a different matter. I have been holding my funds in bitcoins for more than a year, fortunately I have never been in a situation where I had to sell them. However, I will never touch my Bitcoin holdings except for health issues or family issues or any major danger.
