People actually claim to be strong holders that can go against any situation wanting them to sell off some of their bitcoins. The strongest of holders do not just sell at the slightest economic discomfort I know, but I believe everybody has a threshold at which if the pressure surpasses them, they would break into the decision of selling some of their bitcoins to sort the present condition. What kind of situation do you think is enough to pressure you in seeling some of the bitcoins you have been holding. Is family or health challenge enough reason to?

If you would ask me, personally my portfolio is diversified across assets of different classes and my liquid cash at hand is enough to cover most emergency situations. Hence the chance of me selling my bitcoins is minimum even if case of a huge dump back to three digit prices in USD. Besides, the options to sell in my country are limited without having to go through a huge tax barrier.

But I believe this might not be true for many other members of this forum who might have only invested in bitcoin till date because they started late or their liquid cash situation is not that good. Most emergency situations happen without warnings and they draw the maximum money out from savings.

When it comes to trading, a veteran trader can hodl through bear markets without having any emotions because they have a lot of backups to keep them afloat, including different assets they are invested in and the <10% allocation to risky investments technique.

Of course, everyone has a specific situation when they have no choice but to use Bitcoin regardless of the price. Health reasons are perhaps at the top of the priority list, because what kind of person would he be if he didn't want to help himself or a member of his family.

Some people have pre-defined exit points, others are smart and know how to profit during a bull run, and then buy cheaply during corrections and bear markets. Anyone who has the courage to sell it above $50k and more not only made a profit, but could buy a few BTC for that amount and calmly wait for a new bull market.

Personally, I have no problem using BTC as a currency, or exchanging it for fiat regardless of the price - but not everyone has the same starting positions and that is something that needs to be taken into account.

Well there will be a time when the average early adopter will retire and since he can't take his bitcoins to the grave will sell all or at least some of them. I guess this will be in 30 years from now and will be for sure interesting to see if the next generation is buying up these sells.

I will sell when bitcoin is near $100k because a lot of people are waiting for that target which shows there will be a huge sell wall near that zone.
When bitcoin breaks the ATH it would be a tricky situation and a good time to sell some bitcoins only to buy back later.
Selling forever is never an option. Selling temporarily to buy back later is smart. Not selling at all is foolishness.

A 100% gain or more and when I really need the money I invest on crypto for my personal needs. There’s no reason for me to hold if I really have no other money to get for my personal needs because I can always buy back at any price and continue my holding at different price entry. What matter most for me when it comes to holding is I don’t sacrifice my personal needs in exchange for more gains since the reason of my holding is for my own benefits in the future and it’s useless if my current life is waste just because I keep holding than use the money I invest for my needs.

I’m sure at some point I can hold again if ever I spend the money.

People who are forced to sell are people who do not have enough liquid cash, a person that has a good job in real life, with some of their money saved in the bank, and some saved in BTC may not sell their coins if they have a serious situation to handle, they would solve that problem from the money they have saved in the bank, because BTC is a kind of money that soars, while fiat diminishes most times, so it is surely better to hold BTC if you have enough liquid cash to spend. But if you lack liquid cash to spend and BTC in your wallet, you surely have to spend your BTC, not only when you are forced to, but also to take care of yourself.

People should also get used to it that BTC is a currency, and they should spend the currency itself if they can, they do not have to be forced to spend or sell it before they do.

I will sell of my own free will when btc hit another ath, i will not consider it as being forced rather it is a way of increasing my btc bags. There are different type of holders, there are those who would want to be seen as diamond hands and hold 1BTC for decades, and there are the smart holders who had flipped their 1BTC at every ath to gain another 1btc. I chose the latter, holding is good but you have to be smart about it.

If within next one month bitcoin goes up to $100K, maybe that it's time for me to sell some of it.
My sales target is $100K, but for 50% of the total I have because of course I still expect something higher from it.

Most of the medical costs are covered by the government here. So I don't think I would sell bitcoin for medical treatment unless I had to spend more money on it. Family needs, daily needs so far are still met by monthly salary, but for something bigger I still have some savings. As for me, I would tend to sell gold instead of selling bitcoins when I have an urgent need.

I don't have a compelling sell price at whatever direction Bitcoin to me is an asset and since I am in for the long term I believe at whatever price am still good to keep holding and even if the price does a 10x price increase I won't concentrate on the price by DCA but Bitcoin worth at a long term based.

A lot of weak hands and passive traders will trade a long line to make maximum profits with the market volatility.

But for a regular holder, there is no set price but a set time and usage accumulating bitcoin at a constant pace is what guarantees profits on a long-term basis, not market volatility.

If I don't have any more income at work then I will sell some of my bitcoins for necessities but not all will be released except when the price is very high ($200k.

Of course I have done other options because I don't just invest in one asset, I have diversified in several other investments so that when there is an urgent need I can choose other investments to sell compared to bitcoin, for health it is clear that I have done insurance for the family so that if this becomes a problem in my life then the family has been covered by insurance.

I also won't hold bitcoin forever or be a strong hand, if I feel it's enough to be the best price then I will sell slowly but it's impossible for bitcoin to rise above $ 100k-$ 200k so for now it's better to be a hand strong for 5-10 years.

Does that mean that you think people who held through a cycle weren't smart?

Some people don't want to be exposed to exchanges and their KYC. Some people have no means to store 70k USD in cash and don't trust banks enough to move their lifetime savings there so they choose bitcoin. I wouldn't call that stupid.

The way I see it, I'm going to keep adding to my bitcoin collection as long as I can.
I'll probably sell some of it if we ever move above 100000 dollars to celebrate the event and buy myself a reminder, a gratification gift.

If we keep going lower than we are today I'll never sell. Low prices will not make me panic that I'm sure of. The only thing that will push me to sell is a large price spike.

Is family or health challenge enough reason to?
that's why I always use cold money, aka unused money or money left over from my work salary, so it doesn't interfere with my savings in crypto and selling it only because of urgent family needs, well, even though it's also my own investment that I can sell at any time

but if I sell it when the market is bearish of course it makes me in a dilemma and it hurts if I sell it cheap but to help my family, but if I save my asset money with unused money and I still have money from my work I can provide for my family without having to interfere with my investment in crypto

invest in crypto with idle money or cold money  Wink

Is family or health challenge enough reason to?

In my case it is.
I can't enjoy any earning from my few satoshis If I die, obviously. Also, If I chose money over the health or well-being of those I love then I would probably spent years feeling guilty in remembrance of my poor choices.

I do consider myself to be a long time investor but I have got some priorities, if the money I need is not much I could ask for a loan and use Bitcoin as collateral if necessary, so I can continue holding.

If it has exceeded the threshold that is a requirement, of course they will definitely sell some of the bitcoins that have been obtained so far, maybe health is the main thing because it is important to maintain further life so if there is no effort they will definitely release the coins they have, but all have different way to do this difficult act.

I myself have to be able to have an emergency fund so that when needed I don't let go of the assets invested, while there is still income from our work, we have to be able to manage it properly, not just bitcoin, fiat or gold, you have to have it so that when you selling is not in a state of falling because gold has price stability.

On the other hand, of course I will defend it while other funds are still available so that they can be used for other urgent needs, so I try to be a strong hand.

Even though I am not an early adopter of bitcoin, I still have some shares in bitcoin. I buy bitcoin not to sell at anytime. If I am financially buoyant, I will not think of selling my bitcoin for any reason.
Apart from that, I do not intend to hold bitcoin till infinity. The bitcoin I own now is patiently waiting for the next halving bull run. If the bull happens and get a new ATH, I will sell. But if the bull fails, I will be very sceptical about bitcoin

The most common reasons I think would be job loss or health issues.  Health insurance rarely covers all the costs for major accidents and can leave people with piles of bills that can bankrupt them.  I would imagine in this scenario people would choose to sell their investments.  A loss of income can also force people to have to dip into their savings and do what they can to get by.  I think health issues that aren't covered fully by insurance is likely the #1 reason though.  Jobs can be replaced, but you can't wave a magic wand and make bills go away.

As much as possible I will not sell it at all, and I have thought about this before investing in bitcoin.
I need to have savings from my paycheck as well as for investments, which I do both after I prioritize my needs. And the reason I have to have savings is because someday I will need it for urgent needs or if something unexpected happens and I will use my savings without having to use my investment.
my goal of investing in bitcoin is long term and also do DCA every month when I receive my salary, and I believe in the future the price of bitcoin is very valuable considering what happened before when the price of bitcoin touched ATH just yesterday, and I don't want to regret when the price of bitcoin reached the price of 100K.

"Hold" is a very familiar word to us. Everyone who works with cryptocurrency knows this term. But no matter how easy the word hold is, actually holding is a very difficult task. When a trader or holder starts holding, there is an invisible pressure on him. But while those who financially independent are different, there will be a lot of pressure on others.

There are certain circumstances that will force you to sell your assets, including if a holder sells for family health reasons apart from such problems if some people buy asset with borrowed money but if its price falls he can no longer take the risk then such a situation can force him to sell. But strong holders can never sell their holdings in any adverse situation.
