Title: Is it advisable to memorize seed phrase?

I read that one of the best ways to preserve a seed phrase is to write it on a piece of paper and keep it in a safe place... Somewhere safe could be in your home out of the reach of family members and friends, it could also be a safe deposit box. But not everyone are financially buoyant to afford the services of a deposit box.

I believe we must have seen or heard about fire outbreaks, where buildings are completely erased by fire. Imagine if the owner or occupant of such a building has some Bitcoin assets, and has his/her phone, tablet, laptop and the seed phrase piece of paper in the building and everything was lost to fire. Now, this brings me to the question... Can seed phrase be memorized? It's advisable to memorize seed phrase?

You can memorize your seed phrase, but how long you can memorize it if you're not practice everyday to repeat over and over? I believe 2-3 days you will forget since memorize 24 random generated words are hard to remember.

The solution is very simple, you change the medium. For example use a metal plate instead of paper.

It can be memorized but it is not supposed to and it is not recommended.
Over long term, it is so much easier and more likely for the seed phrase to be forgotten than your physical storage be lost to something like fire. Forgetting some of the words or their order could lead to complete loss of your funds.

the good thing about keys are. you can have many copies

its not a either/or.. its an and situation

if you want to try and remember the word go ahead. but also have a physical backup just in case

some people even go to a DIY store get a thin sheet of metal and etch/drill holes in it to mark a seed key in

some etch with a drill tip.. this per word

knowing metal will probably last longer than paper/microchips

there are many ways of doing backup. you are not stuck with one choice/location

In the event of a fire in your home, a steel plate is recommended because it can keep the fire from destroying what you've saved inside. This is just another option for keeping your seed phrase safe. I believe that having multiple ways to save the seed phrase is preferable to having them all in the same place in case of fire or other disaster that causes you to lose them all or access to them all at the same time.

I don’t think memorizing a seed phrase will be easier than said. That’s a whole lot of random numbers generated and are not in accordance to any numerical or alphabetical order. Memorizing the seed phrase will be hard to keep long in the brain especially as you’re getting older by the day. Although, people’s brain functions differently, yours might hold for eternity while some can’t hold for even up to a month.

I have memorized and seen people memorize much more difficult things by turning them into music. Music can stay longer in memory than something you just read because of the melody and rhythm attached to it. So, if you can make music out from your seed phrase or even a poem, you will be able to remember it for a longer time.

It's advisable to memorize seed phrase?
You have to make the song a personal song or poem, meaning not to teach anyone else or tell anyone else the reason or meaning of your song/poem.

Why don't you consider uploading it to the cloud?

That is what I did with metamask phrases. I remember the password of my email. And in fact, all I need to remember is the password of my email, I synced everything, so when I log in to Gmail, everything automatically gets synced, and I have the doc where my seed phrase is saved.

I'd recommend that, it is convenient, easy.

It seems convenient but storing your seed phrase on a cloud service is is one of the most insecure way of seed storage. A lot of things could go wrong for you, from a simple account hack where your password is leaked to bigger catastrophic events where the cloud service itself gets hacked and everyone's accounts and their content is leaked where users aren't even informed for a long time while the company covers it up.

If you don't store your backup online, at any third-party platform, server, cloud, you are using a safer backup method, even with a paper, at home and without a deposit box.

Of course, a good deposit box, a vault can be better method to store your backup as it keeps it away from water, fire damages.

For me, it has never been in my mind.
  • Human brain and memory are limited so chance to see memory vanishes with time is too high.
  • If you don't touch your seed daily, after a few weeks, few months, I am sure you will forget it.
  • More important, you might get an accident (of course I wish you the best) which can cause damages on your brain and memory will be lost. You can not say it will never happen.

I think the best way is to write in a notebook that will not be lost, a piece of paper is easy to lose, or a memo on a mobile phone. I shared my mnemonic with my lover, because my memory is not good, he can Help me, I trust him.

It seems convenient but storing your seed phrase on a cloud service is is one of the most insecure way of seed storage. A lot of things could go wrong for you, from a simple account hack where your password is leaked to bigger catastrophic events where the cloud service itself gets hacked and everyone's accounts and their content is leaked where users aren't even informed for a long time while the company covers it up.

I am not the best of coders out there, but I do agree with the picture, and I am confident that my password would be neigh impossible to crack, unless google sells, it which is even less likely

People are very often afraid of what, in principle, cannot happen. Keeping your seed phrases in different places will give you some peace of mind. For example, I would be very worried if I had a lot of money in my wallet, but even in this case, having good money, you can buy a fireproof safe. Someone wondered how people who have millions on their account store their seed phrases. A deposit box is a usual place where robbers or anyone who wants to look at if they wanna take something from you. Any dumbass criminal will find your seed if you keep it there. What you need is to write it somewhere not obvious like a laminated menu sheet in the kitchen or something like that.

Memorizing of course is advisable, you can go anywhere without it. But you know when you grow old, it's the brain cells that are the first to deteriorate.

If you rely on your memory as the only means of backup for your seedphrase, you can consider them lost already. Regardless if you turn it into a song or ask someone to help you with remembering it.

But not everyone are financially buoyant to afford the services of a deposit box.
If you own some Bitcoins you can afford a piece of paper or better still a book where you can write it down on. To avoid the risk of a fire or natural disaster, you can store it in two, separate, secure locations.

Nah, I think memorizing your seed phrase is too dangerous, you need to have a copy of it somewhere, because there is a big chance you'll forget it at some point, maybe even if you'll repeat it every day. I wrote it on paper and keeping it safe.

I know singers and it is easy that when they sing a song they change some words. Or theater actors who memorize a script, usually change something unconsciously when they perform. Relying on your memory could work out well in the short term, if it is to go to another country for example, but there is a high probability that it will go wrong. It is better to rely on something external. I remind you that Einsteir said: "A short pencil is better than a long memory."

Yes. Indeed. Memorizing it is simple and can be achieve yet the risk of forgetting it someday might possible too. Imagine. If you have a lot of assets in a particular wallet, if you accidentally forget the seed phrase, your assets will go to waste. And I also never heard or read somewhere the idea that someone who forgets its seed phrase and doesn't have any physical copy is luckily guess or use any app to open its wallet. And just like what other says. Its better to be safe than sorry.

I just use old boxes that were used to package small products, instead of a safe.

Also, I don't memorize my seed phrases, that's what the papers are for. I do however memorize my wallet passwords (and avoid writing those down as it is a security risk to keep fetching them every time you forget).

There are a lot of ways that an online account can be hacked that doesn't require brute forcing or that much effort. The most common way is stealing users' password through phishing attacks in which case it doesn't matter how long the password were!
There could also be vulnerabilities that are unknown today but found in the future in their servers that could be exploited.

There are many ways to save your seed phrase, including memorizing it, but don't just rely on it like you still have backups like putting it on paper, or I've seen someone write it in steel so it won't burn, and others have multiple backups just to be safe. Though memorizing it is beneficial, it is difficult because you do not know if you will remember it after a few weeks, so it is preferable to write it down on something that cannot be burned; simply be creative.

I don't agree on memorizing your seed phrase, sooner or later your memory will fail you and you will regret that you have put it everything on your mind. I agree that we need to keep it in a safe place if we write our seed. So it's important to put in a safe deposit box or have multiple back up of it.

The way I am dealing with a problem of a a seed phrase being destroyed by fire is that I stored a copy of my seed phrase with another family member who I absolutely trust. Another good way to make sure that seed is not destroyed by fire is metal plate with engraved seed phrase.

Of course it can be memorized if you put some effort into it, but I would never rely solely on my own memory for something as important as seed phrase. Beside the obvious dangers of simply forgetting about it, there is always a possibility of some head injury/illness that can affect your memory permanently.

There is a bunch of memory techniques that can help remember even random sequences of numbers, letters or words.
Usually they require constant practice unless you learned them at a very young age and already have internalized some methods.

Probably the most efficient method for a seed phrase is the story method: https://artofmemory.com/wiki/Story_Method/
You use each word, vizualize it and connect it in a memorable way with the next word. With some practice and repetition this will easily work with a 24-word-seed-phrase.
However, solely relying on it without any other physical backup seems way too risky in my book.

If you want to go crazy, look up methods to remember pi and apply them to a private key (not recommended but if you got too much time on your hands could be fun).

 Memorizing is not a perfect way to store seed phrases, what if you accidentally forget one of them? You will no longer have a chance to get your assets back. That is not a viable solution.

There are many ways to store seed phrases, but none of them are absolutely safe because, as you say, incidents like fire, flood, natural disaster... such things are unpredictable. The best we can do is make different copies and store them in other places, this can help you avoid unexpected losses.

Memorizing your seed phrase will help you in only a short period of time because as human we can't remember everything that we have memorized in the past. Using it as a song for easy memorizing will work but what if someone close to you knows the song by learning it while your were singing it,this is another risk. I think writing it on a pieces of papers and keep them in various places in different locations keep the brain from stress of memorizing and also gives a rest if mind because it is impossible for all the places which you duplicate copies are to go ablaze at the same time

No it's not, as you grow older day by day you will start forgetting some things, seed phrase is not like your Gmail account password, all words have to be in order or you lose access to your Bitcoin.

God forbids, what do you think will happen if an accident occurs that affects the way you think and it's going to take a long time to fully recover? I don't like this idea because I have think about it many times before, it won't work.

For sure over the years you provably forget what you memorize since for sure you will encounter many words that you need to memorize so to avoid coming to the point that you lose your balance much better if you jut write up your seed phrase on any offline material which is in your position since this much safer than anything available.

If you are worried about fire then make sure that you have easy access unto it where you can easily carry it out when something emergency happen and think about putting it also together with your important documents.

Memorizing a phrase is not a perfect solution because there is no guarantee we will keep it in our memory, if we forget it, there is no chance of recovery. I just wonder, why do you think keeping it away from your loved ones is a solution? when for me, it is the safest way to keep it. Could it be that even your mother, you can't trust her?

Honestly, for those who have no faith, always living in doubt even with their own parents, there is no safe way, everywhere you look there is a risk.

Let's be honest, Seed phrases are long and can't be memorized by some common folks that are not used to memorizing complicated words but they can always find a suitable way to remove the harm of losing it. Therefore, just keep in mind to back it up with some sort of a buried treasure where when things are not going well, you can always depend on the paper or whatever things you choose to write your seeds but make sure not to complete it or if you want to, you can use synonyms of the words or whatever suits you, just don't write your seed phrase as spoon feeding so that you can still protect it whenever someone accidentally finds it.

Why don't you try and see if it is possible to remember 12 or 24 words? Of course it is possible, but if you use your brain as storage, then you have to take into account that this storage can be damaged at any time, whether it is due to an accident or some disease that causes memory loss. In addition, keeping such things in your head is not smart for another reason, because someone can use it to find out about them while you are not completely conscious (under the influence of alcohol, drugs).

Don't come here to cry if someone hacks you, and you won't be the first one to have it happen because he thought such things should be kept online. It's one of the worst ways to store seed/private keys, and I hope no one listens to your advice.

It is often said that the bluntest pen is still sharper than the sharpest brain.
While is risky to try to memorize your seed phrase is that sometimes you might just forget a word or mix up the words and that is the end.

Truth, some people have photographic brains, while some do not.
I still think that despite being able to recall your seed phrase from memory, also write and keep it somewhere safe, if possible, have multiple copies.

seed phrases are a very important thing for us as crypto users, but to memorize seed phrases I think we can do it but some of us can't do that, then the solution to the problem of seed phrases we can write in several different storage places for example gmail that we can remember and other places that we can always take when we need it, There are actually many ways for us to save seed phrases other than memorization.

If you have great retentivity then by all means memorize your seed phrase though I won't advice to only memorize the seed phrase, you still need a physical back up of the seed phrase for security purposes and place it in a condition that the medium that holding your seed phrase is water proof, rust proof, fire proof and insect or termite proof.  Even if a person has high retentivity, there is always a possibility that he will forget things, so to avoid lost of our Bitcoin due to forgetting the seed phrase it is always best to have another form of back up.

It is a good thing if you'd do, I cannot see anything wrong with that, but to rely on your memory I guess is not. If you would be memorizing your seedphrase, still keep something which qould help you remember it just in case you forgot it. Some would say that's unecessary and that is true. I agree. There are just different ways a wallet could be accessed and those instances would always point out to owner's negligence. We only have one job which is to avoid such things to occur because that would be more unfortunate than to lose from investments. Writing or memorizing will depend on your lifestyle or security habits; if you could secure keeping your phrase, then do it but if not, might be a good thing to memorize.

Seems not advisable to memorize about seed phrase in our mind, have long letter and words each seed phrase and I don't think have any one can memorize full with their seed phrase. Better save it in notepad file or anything easy for accessing than have to save it in our mind and not easy when later faced bad thing and our mind can't memorize back with seed phrase.

Have possibility for memorize with seed phrase but separated with our trusted people, could be our wife, children, family or our brother and give the half of seed phrase for memorize it and half left hold and remember in our memorize. I don't try any way for memorize in our mind because I don't want spent my mind to make not important thing due have many securing placed for saving seed phrase.

Memorizing your own seed phrase is really a bad idea, are you really only need one wallet to hold all of your coins? You need to read about Luke Dashjr's case where his both online and offline wallet get compromised, which make it's not wise idea to carry all your coins just in one wallet.

If you really have a lot Bitcoin, it's better if you split it to 2-3 hardware wallet. I don't think you can remember 48 or 72 hours since it's too many and you need to remember the sequence too.

That is what I did with metamask phrases. I remember the password of my email. And in fact, all I need to remember is the password of my email, I synced everything, so when I log in to Gmail, everything automatically gets synced, and I have the doc where my seed phrase is saved.

I'd recommend that, it is convenient, easy.
It seems convenient but storing your seed phrase on a cloud service is is one of the most insecure way of seed storage. A lot of things could go wrong for you, from a simple account hack where your password is leaked to bigger catastrophic events where the cloud service itself gets hacked and everyone's accounts and their content is leaked where users aren't even informed for a long time while the company covers it up.

I agree with you, uploading it to a cloud account is a mistake to save the seed phrase, it's not a wise solution at all considering there are lots of hacks and it's easy to get hacked even if your account is paid, by like using phishing or direct monitoring of the device you use and there are many other ways to access cloud accounts.
And it's better to save the seed phrase in a place that is not connected to the internet to be safer from hacking. If you want to keep doing that, I suggest not keeping the original, or you can change the word in your seed phrase with a synonym or antonym for the word to outwit hackers.

Obviously it's best to memorize your seed phrase but i would definitely not suggest that this should be your only option. because if we are considering worst scenarios then what if something happens to you? Moreover it's a human brain afterall and you can easily forget such a long seed phrase pretty easily i would suggest doing it both the ways keeping it in two secret places just for safety and also memorizing it. After all this the risk of losing it is honestly very minimal which really is worth the bet.

No, it's a bad idea because, over time, our memory will forget some things, and if you accidentally forget your seed phrase, you will lose all your bitcoins forever. If you are afraid that writing on paper may burn in fire, you can copy us into different copies and for convenience use a USB and store them, and keep them with you or somewhere only you know. With 4 copies, 3 paper copies, and 1 USB I think it will be safe.

write it down in any form they like (paper)(etching metal)
and put that into a metal tin. and then put that tin in a plastic sealed container. and bury it in their back garden (if they fear family theft or neighbour theft when visiting the house)

some people have tatooed themselves in a private area

some have lazer engraved it into diamonds

some have metal etched it into the inside of their wedding ring

This is correct but even if someone isn't financial capable of buying a safe or deposit box, how can you keep a lot of your assets in crypto when a thing that will give you additional security is can't afford. You really have to invest on it and slash some bucks on your crypto assets to have it.

I have heard and seen someone brought it up with this idea, yes you can memorize your seed phrase but it's not advisable at all. Do you trust your memory and mind? Of course you can, I think memorizing the seed phrases is fine and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
But if memorizing it in your mind is the only thing you do to store your seed phrases, that's reckless and overconfidence.
Slow years our brain will definitely experience a decrease in its performance and we can also be hit by a disaster that causes amnesia. Who knows?.

There are many ways to store our seed phrases such as storing them digitally, writing on paper, printing/engraving them on metal or other media.
It depends on our creativity to secure the seed phrase that we have.

To avoid such incident you have to make duplicates of your private keys and seed phrase multiple places, for instance if you already gotten married you could share and store it into your wife's phones or system and as well you can save it in your phone and any other gadgets out there. This relief you from having a heart attack over your private keys and seed phrase. Memorizing is very risky however, you may do that but whenever you tried to miss any line then you are total lost and your funds can't be recovered anymore all less you keep playing with it over times to get it stored in your memory.

Better to write them down (without memorizing) on flat sheet of fire-proof metals and bury in multiple places at home inside in the ground where you can easily remember you buried them.
The problem with memorizing is that you can give it away or it can be stolen from you when you are drunk/drugged, in the dream/sleep, subconsciously etc

It isn't advisable but it should come in handy instead of going to the place where you hide your seeds only to open up your wallet but we shouldn't be confident with how good our memory was, so it is always safe to have a back up. Write it down in something sturdy so that it will survive any hazardous elements. Some vaults are also strong and I think not all of them are expensive, especially the smaller ones.

The only thing that boggles me is that when we say vault. The first thing will then came to our mind is money and other valuable items. Criminals and even the normal person knows this. They will always be after it once they see it so I still prefer to keep my keys in a secret location instead.

With your seed phrase, you can do whatever you want. So it's up to you whether you want to memorize your seed phrase or write it down on multiple pieces of paper. It's preferable if you have memories, but it would be too difficult for me. If there is a fire and you leave everything on the house, you will lose everything if you can't remember your seed. What if you keep your seed safe somewhere else? Is it any other trusted house or a relative's house that isn't aware of crypto? Or is your office in a secure location? I simply mean keep it in multiple locations where you feel safe. You could even store it underground, where fire cannot destroy it.

A seed phrase isn't something easy to memorize and we probably forget it in the long term. The best way is to secure it, by writing the seed phrase on a piece of paper, steel plate, or the like. Choose the medium that we think to last a long time!

Put the paper, steel plate, or other media somewhere that we assume it will be the most secure place. But don't put it on a place that we may forget it and it is better to let the closest person knows it. We don't know how long we live! If something happens to us, we need someone to find the seed phrase to access our Bitcoin assets.

As stated in the discussion of this thread, there are lots of options to keep and back up our seed phrase so I don't think there is a necessity to memorize your seed phrases in terms of keeping your seed phrases safe.  It is cool to memorize seed phrases but if you happen to have many wallets, can you keep up with this memorize seed phrase thing?  Let us say in a scenario where you have Bitcoin but are also invested in ETH, SOL, BNB, and DOGE, and each has 3 different wallets, the possibility of mixing the seed phrases is too huge so as cool as memorizing seed phrases sounds, I wouldn't recommend to use it as a sole back up of your seed phrases or private key.

Actually, a deposit box, while good idea for stuff like cash, gold, jewelry etc., can be a bad one for bitcoin, because it pretty much reveals the location of your seed phrase, likely. You can hide better than that. Just be a little more creative, and figure out a place in your apartment or cottage, wherein you can hide twelve words effectively, securely and without betraying you're hiding something valuable.

I doubt you can have it your mind for a very long time, as older as we can get we tend to forget many things, we also begin to forget little by little, our capacity to memorize and retain every single details on our mind gets narrowed. It is better to write it in your notebook or journal or make a thing that will signify the word you are having in your keys. It is good to memorize it but how long can you keep it?

Yes one can memorize their seed phrase but the truth be told that that it isn't advisable because tye work involved in memorizing seed phrase isn't worth it when there are other more preferable ways to store the seed phrase.
It will be more easier to memorize and recall your email password rather than memorizing a seed phrase and also if it's possible to memorize your email easily then I would advise that the seed phrase be save in the email so it can be easily assessed at any place and at any time.
I will never advise anyone to memorize their seed phrase and I wish all a sensitisation campaign should be held for this too.

If you can memorize seed phrases then do it. But do not rely on your memory only it will be foolish for anyone to do that. Keep them stored in different places, Give one to your mom, give one to your wife, and keep it at your house or other family members' house. There are many practical solutions for that. Not every place will burn with some magical fire.

Don't get panicky about keeping some words or phrases, there are more serious things to worry about.

It really depends on how good your memory is. If you have a bad memory and tend to forget certain things quickly, then I very much doubt your strategy of keeping your seed phrase in your head, will become something with a successful ending.

I personally am quite forgetful and I doubt I could remember my seed phrase for a long time. Maybe I could, maybe I could not, but that's not something I am willing to bet my money on. Better safe than sorry.

Whats wrong with a hardware wallet? They are really the most secure wallets that you can store your coins on.

There's no universal best way, it all depends on what kind of threat you think is the most likely. If you worry about other people in your house stealing your coins - you should store your seed or wallet file in encrypted format. If you worry about a house fire and can't get a fire-proof safe - you should find additional place to story a backup of your seed.

Memorizing your seed is a bad backup option, our memory wasn't created to store random data perfectly, even remembering 12 words in order is a challenge for us. How it will look on practice is that even if you have no problems with memorizing it, in the long run you will likely forget parts of your seed, potentially making it unrecoverable.

It's very risky, I just have to remember it and not write it down on paper because I know I might forget it someday because I don't use it every day. In the early days you can remember it so easily but you don't know if you will still remember it easily a few months later. Forgetting even 1 word you will not be able to access your wallet and it is a nightmare. So, writing it down on paper and keeping it in a safe place is the best choice.

Amongst all the bad choices to store a seed phrase, memorizing it is worst of them all. There is nothing better, easier and safer than writing your recovery phrase on a piece of paper; if you try to invent new and untrusted methods of storing your recovery phrase, you are only shooting yourself in the foot, and moving nearer to locking yourself out of your own money.

Yes, your seed phrase can be memorized in fact I would say go for it, if that is what you want. The human brain is susceptible to wear and tear. Well, you sure have a point here but i personally would not advice anyone to try to memorize their seed phrase, but even one must do so, do not do it and rule out the writing down and keeping in a safe place tradition, to avoid loosing the seed phrase in the case of fire outbreak, i would suggest we find somewhere around our homes, dig it and bury the seed phrase there after having packaged it in a way it wont be destroyed by heat, cold, rain and earthworms.
This does not stop us from writing one and keeping it safe inside our homes, the one buried outside should act as an emergency recovery if for any reason, the one inside our home is not accessible to us..

Though the above, is for those who can not avoid a safe box.

There are a lot of ways that an online account can be hacked that doesn't require brute forcing or that much effort. The most common way is stealing users' password through phishing attacks in which case it doesn't matter how long the password were!
There could also be vulnerabilities that are unknown today but found in the future in their servers that could be exploited.

235 million Twitter accounts and the email address and phone numbers connected to them are hacked and the records are being sold online. They exploited a vulnerability in Twitter only found last year.

If you can memorize them, that's great, but it's not wise to use only one method to store the seed phrase, so combine multiple methods together because if unfortunately one day we will not be able to remember. I also memorize my seed phrases, but I also copy them down on paper and keep them in safe places.
To be honest, there were a few times when I couldn't remember all the words and I had to resort to copies to help me access the property. It's really risky to just keep them in our heads.

Seed phrase is an important key that can contain all your life savings. Considering its importance, it definitely deserves maximum security. Otherwise you can lose everything in an instant. It can be write on a piece of paper but if it is keep on a digital platform it will be safe to protect it from fire or any other form of damage. Remembering the seed phrase is risky and can be all over if you make a mistake. So I think it's safe to write it down. A user can keep it where it is convenient considering its maximum security. However, if the password is stored in a safe place, he will be able to easily remember the short password of that platform for login where the seed phrase is usually longer that will be comparatively difficult to remember.

Good question, I actually thinking this a few years ago but I haven't think of doing it as that is really risky. Imagine that people will get old and the brain won't probably remember it if you are not trying to write it on a daily basis or recite it. It is much better to have a backup but if you really wanted to make it safe there are some alternatives that I think before.

1. You can write down the privatekey and change 1-3 words and that's the only word you should memorize - it is safe and at the same time you will only memorize few words and even if people will see your private key they don't know which word is the fake and what is the right word for that.

I believe a lot depends on your memory and what sort of person you are. I have an okay memory, but it's not exceptional and worse than many might have, so I know that I won't be able to retain the seed for a long time in my memory. I can memorize it, I can recall it, but I am not confident at all that I will never forget it. So for me, this isn't the right way, as I don't think a chance of me being robbed/hacked is higher than a chance that I'll simply forget the phrase. I also don't fully trust myself to remember where it's physically written down and to not accidentally leave it somewhere or destroy it while cleaning. So this isn't the approach I support either.

The best way, in my opinion, is to write the phrase down on a fire-resistant steel metal and hide it in a place where no one will find it except you. I don't think that the best way is to memorize the seeds phrase because words can be forgotten or someone could even misarrangement  the seed phrase words.

But it's a good thing to have a variety of solutions for protecting your seed phrase.It's a good idea to practice and memorize your seed phrase in case something like a war breaks out and many of the buildings or locations where you may hide your seed phrase may be destroyed. Memory will service a good option in those cases. However, never use memorizing seeds phrase as the most secure option.

For me, memorizing of key phrase is not an issue. I know best mixing up words to get a smooth sentence sometimes I do use it to form a little poem which ryhmes with the alphabet serially aligned to match each one of the phrase as it is represented. I love doing that too which serves as backup but however I do not forget to write my phrase and store it some where because you know we are humans and not machine so not every time we would be memorizing such. That is how I do my thing you know.

For the security of our money it is not a bad idea to memorize, sometimes things that are in digital can play a trick on us, it is good to have our private keys and a recovery phrase safely, it can be on paper and also if You can memorize it would be a good thing, but what I find difficult to memorize but it is not impossible to do is the private key, but there must be people in the world who must do it and that would be a pretty good mental exercise, and I would not use them , if I had a lot of bitcoin in a wallet I would not hesitate to do it because it is something that requires a lot of responsibility.

You can actually memorize your seed phrase if you want to but as for me, I don't think I can , because I have to many things in my brain already. Rather, I would use my notebook or another writing pads to put them down and keep them in a safe place.

In my opinion, it is not practical as at some point, you might forget one word from those long list.
You can never be sure that you will always remember those seed phrases.
Better write it down and securely keep it where you think you will remember it and see to it that the place is safe and secure.
I won't trust myself with memorization. Sure, we can memorize it but how long?

I think the best way is to write in a notebook that will not be lost, a piece of paper is easy to lose, or a memo on a mobile phone. I shared my mnemonic with my lover, because my memory is not good, he can Help me, I trust him.
This the worst decision I have come across so far in crypto space. If I understand you very well, your lover here could mean your boyfriend or husband right? If that is the case, have you thought about break up or divorce? Your best relationship could turn your worse experience after breaking up and you'll regret doing everything you did in the perfect days of your relationship. No one can be trusted with valuable nowadays. You'll have to be very careful. Notebook and your phone can get stolen too. Meta steel is recommended.

Why don't you try and see if it is possible to remember 12 or 24 words? Of course it is possible, but if you use your brain as storage, then you have to take into account that this storage can be damaged at any time, whether it is due to an accident or some disease that causes memory loss. In addition, keeping such things in your head is not smart for another reason, because someone can use it to find out about them while you are not completely conscious (under the influence of alcohol, drugs).
You don't even have to have any type of disease or accident, you could simply just forget it, it's human to forget some things, we all forget things and it's fine. I understand that some people think their memory is amazing, but that's really nothing that crazy and you could remember it for years and then suddenly forget it, that would be very very normal.

I personally believe that the best thing to do is write it down on paper somewhere and store it in one of the draws at your house. That way you wouldn't be able to forget it, and yes a burning building or so would see it gone, that's a terrible tragedy, but that's at least the safest method and would be very unlikely to have a burning building.

Memorising a seed phrase might be risky to because forgetting any word will deny you access from  your wallet,  but writing it down or saving it anywhere on ur phone is far better than memorising it. Anytime you want access to your wallet you can easy look at it ,write than the seed phrase and gain access to your wallet. Remember once you misplace one alphabet in a seed phrase you will be denied access to that wallet.

This is a smart question because everyone would have there own opinion about this. It is advisable to memorize your seed phrase if possible and also have a hard copy so that I case you mistakenly forgot the seed phrase, you can easily go back and check it to make the correct.
 I have seen genius that can assimilate a long words for years without forgetting them. If you are such a person that can cram some words without forgetting them then that would be nice and also make sure you back it up for reference since our brain does not work like computers.

Considering how many things you're going to come up with moving forward, I would not even count on memorizing my seed phrase. There's no such pattern that could make you memorize it easily considering that it is a word list in order anyway. I just realize to myself as well that I can't memorize for shit unlike when I was at high school. Such shit happens but hey we get older. :D

Like others mentioned, better just engrave it to a metal plate for safety purposes.

I don't think there is much need to memorize the seed phrase. Because there is highly chances to forget the seed phrase. 
And if you can't afford a deposit box then I think you can write them down on paper and encrypt those passwords with some of your common key words so no one else can figure them out.  And if that paper is kept in a private safe place, I think there will be no reason to worry too much about the seed phrase.

The best method someone can preserve a seed phrase is through documents and the documents should be offline, because the offline documents is something we shall consider to say your coin will not be stolen from anyone, the best way is to have a box where you will have your documents that comprised your seed phrase, before some people use to keep it online and when they email is being hacked the wallet can be accessed, so that's the reason why people do not keep the seed phrase online
