Title: Users with highest Merit/Posts
Post by: fillippone on January 11, 2023, 04:02:23 PM
I have recently been congratulating a new user on the italian board for his astonishing Merit/Post ratio. This particular user is a well known expert user in the italian community, and already provided good content here on the forum, where he’s new. So this ratio is quite expected. As he’s pretty new to the forum, he asked me “what is a great merit/post ratio?. This is something it resonated with me, as he very first thread I opened here on the forum was on a very similar subject: Hello, I am quite new to this board, so I am trying to provide the best post I could as I find the merit system a good way to raise the signal/noise ratio.
I accidentally bumped in a user with over 1k posts and almost the same merit. Is there a way to have a ranking of best user sorted with high ratio? Time is even scarcer than bitcoin, so I want to effectively use my time to learn from user that posted quality stuff using effectively their time!
Thanks, F1
I think the idea ha some value, so I decided to leverage @ddmrddmr merit dashboard and try to figure out something. Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4428616.0) I did the following steps: - downloaded the entire forum population from @ddmrddmr dashboard from the User Summary Tab
- filtered out banned users
- filtered out "brand new" members
- computed the ratio between received merits and
- setup other filters on post, merits and ratio
- sorted the users according to descending Received Merit/Post ratio
The following table is the output https://i.ibb.co/PNpDNcz/61579141.png (https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/12413698/) If you click on the above graph you will be redirected to the interactive If you are wondering who those outliers are, have a look at the TOP 50 (excuse me for my poor formatting capabilities): Pos | User ID | Posts | Received Merits/Posts | Forum Profile | BPIP I think filtering them a little bit the outcome can clear out a few not-too-relevant outliers. So I filtere the results using the following criteria: I filtered out some relevant users (your truly merit rascal included). But I think the graph is much neater: https://i.ibb.co/qYczMmB/61579141.png (https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/12411784/) Only 81 users on the whole forum satisfy those strict criteria. There are three exceptional users, who stand out from the crowd with a ratio above 8. Some users are well above 4, a level it is incredibly hard to achieve! Also for this latest extraction, which is the most significant, in my opinion, here you have a direct table for your convenience (excuse my poor formatting capabilities) Pos | User ID | Posts | Interesting post. Statistics can be skewered in any direction. You might want to go back and filter out the shower of merits to and from merit sources who have their favourites they snow ball merits in closed circles. Plus, you might want to remove some of the super threads where the users just endlessly merit each-others posts even though they have no substance.

That's so cool! Great job on all the data you gathered and the nice graphs. It must have taken a lot of time & effort. The second graph unfortunately has the wrong link (both link to the first graph's source). I found myself in this little 'bump' with Rath_, icopress and GazetaBitcoin! Good advices. I just wanted to answer a simple question. The tools are out there, now you can develop the idea as you prefer. I just laid out the basic idea!

When I used to do analysis rather frequently back in the day, I looked at the Merit per post ratio, and one of the difficulties in compiling or interpreting the data is the fact that quite a few accounts had many posts created before the introduction of the Merit System, which normally would drag down their result (except for the likes of Hal, Satoshi, Laszlo and so forth). Other less prominent long-standing accounts will have a lower ratio due to their pre-Merit System posting backlog, when comparted to accounts born into the Merit System. To a certain degree, an ideal criteria would more or less play around with the post count at the time the Merit System kicked-off, and device how to use that in the calculus (i.e. if an account is pre-Merit System, but posted mostly/largely after it kicked-off, consider the post count at the time the Merit System kicked-off, and not the total number of posts). Another interesting variation, subject to the same problematic as the one said above, is to calculate the percentage of merited posts, which gives a sense of broadness to the merit/post ratio. This is the data for the top 100 (earned) Merited profiles as of last Friday: banned name MeritReceived posts nMeritedPosts Merit/post %MeritedPosts N o_e_l_e_o 13482 14159 4241 0,95 29,95 N LoyceV 11838 21895 3447 0,54 15,74 N fillippone 11572 12060 3487 0,96 28,91 N theymos 9791 9275 690 1,06 7,44 N El duderino_ 9604 17686 3015 0,54 17,05 N Ratimov 8969 11943 2625 0,75 21,98 N DdmrDdmr 8931 11439 3131 0,78 27,37 N suchmoon 7424 25074 2654 0,3 10,58 N pooya87 7035 20332 2469 0,35 12,14 N LFC_Bitcoin 6662 19611 2346 0,34 11,96 N JayJuanGee 6618 26630 3101 0,25 11,64 N gmaxwell 6234 5815 741 1,07 12,74 N dkbit98 5453 9978 1513 0,55 15,16 N BlackHatCoiner 5115 6415 1277 0,8 19,91 N The Sceptical Chymist 5084 16416 1826 0,31 11,12 N 1miau 5028 6081 1485 0,83 24,42 N Pmalek 4964 11153 1474 0,45 13,22 N satoshi 4938 575 95 8,59 16,52 N xhomerx10 4782 7931 1340 0,6 16,9 N mikeywith 4762 6824 1427 0,7 20,91 N nutildah 4727 9644 1464 0,49 15,18 N NotATether 4648 6925 1145 0,67 16,53 N ETFbitcoin 4610 5866 1673 0,79 28,52 N NeuroticFish 4525 15176 1571 0,3 10,35 N n0nce 4517 2870 920 1,57 32,06 N TryNinja 4410 12838 1381 0,34 10,76 N achow101 4315 11649 960 0,37 8,24 N Rikafip 4297 5390 1117 0,8 20,72 N DaveF 4283 5934 1165 0,72 19,63 N philipma1957 4133 40560 1775 0,1 4,38 N Hhampuz 4130 15075 1285 0,27 8,52 N stompix 4086 12366 1541 0,33 12,46 N nc50lc 4018 4812 1174 0,83 24,4 N bitmover 3984 9758 1296 0,41 13,28 N icopress 3962 2967 591 1,34 19,92 N Last of the V8s 3892 9783 1703 0,4 17,41 N cAPSLOCK 3816 5976 1222 0,64 20,45 N BobLawblaw 3800 1528 1307 2,49 85,54 N HCP 3756 10275 1249 0,37 12,16 N OmegaStarScream 3731 12237 1107 0,3 9,05 N DireWolfM14 3574 4978 964 0,72 19,37 N zasad@ 3502 5692 996 0,62 17,5 N Lucius 3482 13294 1526 0,26 11,48 N witcher_sense 3451 5094 986 0,68 19,36 N Toxic2040 3400 4343 1316 0,78 30,3 N mocacinno 3368 4967 857 0,68 17,25 N lovesmayfamilis 3367 5475 1338 0,61 24,44 N tranthidung 3358 7416 876 0,45 11,81 N Charles-Tim 3268 5167 922 0,63 17,84 N Torque 3266 7182 1162 0,45 16,18 N GazetaBitcoin 3255 2843 574 1,14 20,19 N d5000 3253 7385 1175 0,44 15,91 N CryptopreneurBrainboss 3206 6379 830 0,5 13,01 N cygan 3188 12883 1229 0,25 9,54 N Plutosky 3184 2463 995 1,29 40,4 N mk4 3131 15528 1432 0,2 9,22 N Rath_ 3030 2699 689 1,12 25,53 N hosseinimr93 3022 3736 849 0,81 22,72 N TheBeardedBaby 3001 5121 667 0,59 13,02 N LeGaulois 2861 8497 818 0,34 9,63 N bullrun2020bro 2848 4538 1191 0,63 26,25 N Welsh 2846 8440 854 0,34 10,12 N AlcoHoDL 2819 2610 849 1,08 32,53 N yahoo62278 2778 9523 620 0,29 6,51 N jojo69 2777 9037 1046 0,31 11,57 N Hueristic 2765 13051 1198 0,21 9,18 N Hal 2733 314 29 8,7 9,24 N Paashaas 2658 3234 841 0,82 26 N DannyHamilton 2657 13531 621 0,2 4,59 N nullius 2582 2544 589 1,01 23,15 N hugeblack 2564 8798 926 0,29 10,53 N jeremypwr 2552 3463 757 0,74 21,86 N VB1001 2522 3926 1090 0,64 27,76 N ranochigo 2396 8839 875 0,27 9,9 N ChiBitCTy 2388 5418 448 0,44 8,27 N Coding Enthusiast 2385 1021 326 2,34 31,93 N khaled0111 2361 5703 782 0,41 13,71 N qwk 2355 7895 814 0,3 10,31 N babo 2325 8477 967 0,27 11,41 N mole0815 2322 10614 1198 0,22 11,29 N JimboToronto 2270 8077 779 0,28 9,64 N hilariousetc 2255 4910 671 0,46 13,67 N buwaytress 2248 15941 1055 0,14 6,62 N franky1 2220 24746 969 0,09 3,92 N bob123 2212 6364 885 0,35 13,91 N DarkStar_ 2177 6867 625 0,32 9,1 N krogothmanhattan 2158 8045 365 0,27 4,54 N yogg 2156 4249 391 0,51 9,2 N Bthd 2142 4015 648 0,53 16,14 N OutOfMemory 2128 3084 803 0,69 26,04 N shahzadafzal 2125 2791 763 0,76 27,34 N Husna QA 2121 4491 699 0,47 15,56 N duesoldi 2099 4392 904 0,48 20,58 N abhiseshakana 2088 5727 647 0,36 11,3 N OgNasty 2087 14784 747 0,14 5,05 N ivomm 2055 1681 622 1,22 37 N The Cryptovator 2041 7980 676 0,26 8,47 N Lakai01 2027 5666 935 0,36 16,5 N Royse777 2024 7937 622 0,26 7,84 N gentlemand 2007 20740 964 0,1 4,65

Nice initiative from you, the age of the forum is older than 2018, and there are many topics/accounts that deserve thousands of merit points, but they were not highlighted and they could have collected a lot of merit points in a short time if they continued to post.
Therefore, I suggest adding the time factor so that it becomes active highest Merit/Posts, who are no longer active.
Edit: It looks like @DdmrDdmr made it

probably is better rank olders users in a higher position. i've a score about 2 in post/merit ratio becouse i'm new and i was active in those days. 2 days ago i had a ratio about 4 only becouse i only had created some threads but never been active in comments.
Is much less probable recive lots of merits in comments then as thread creator (just for views), Could be nice try to create a good alghoritm for ranking users not only for the pure ratio but also with those elements.
(sorry for my low quality english) 🧡

I have recently been congratulating a new user on the italian board for his astonishing Merit/Post ratio. This particular user is a well known expert user in the italian community, and already provided good content here on the forum, where he’s new. So this ratio is quite expected. As he’s pretty new to the forum, he asked me “what is a great merit/post ratio?.
First of all, congratulations for another analysis. It's always good to be able to see things from different perspectives, to have an idea of how things are evolving. Now, I think this type of relationship is very subjective and doesn't exactly mean that a user with little posts and many merits is better than others. Because a user who makes few quality posts and is not very active, who receives many deserved merits, will always have a better ratio than a user who makes quality topics and is very active (where logically not all participations deserve merit) will have a ratio lower.

very interesting topic! thanks for sharing the idea @fillippone, it's very useful to have a ranking of the users of this forum who write comments full of useful arguments and deserve to be more showcased! and congratulations also to @turtlecute for the excellent arguments he proposes on the Italian board, having a good merit/post ratio is synonymous with notoriety

Ayyyy....I like your list a lot better (cuz I'm on it, lol). OP, nice data crunching--and DdmrDdmr as well. The merit:post statistic is probably the best indicator of who's consistently making quality posts, assuming the post count is relatively high. Some members are new and make a few really excellent posts and that ratio can be off the charts, but for a member like o_e_l_e_o the number sums up how good he is very well. I thought nullius (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=976210) would be on the list, as I remember he would consistently earn merits with nearly every post he made, but after checking his profile I guess I was mistaken. Anyway, thanks for the analysis; I always like looking at merit stats. I also think if anyone is looking to earn merits and can't figure out how, they ought to check the profiles of some of the top members on the lists here.

Absolutely agree. This thread is only for statistics purpose and surely hasn't the intent of ranking, sorting or evaluating forum users. The proof itself is satoshi. If he cannot he be found on top of every possible metric, this means such metrics are screwed, aren't they?

sorted the users according to descending Received Merit/Post ratio I was also thinking if such statistics can be made. Good job, fillippone! Having more merits than posts may happen (in those cases named by 1miau as "hit and run", meaning a low ranking user which gets a ton of merits for one post then he leaves the forum) but keeping such a ratio on the long run is almost impossible. Furthermore, if even in "normal conditions" this is something hard to achieve, for those which created their accounts before merit system was implemented -- for these ones it's almost impossible. And the statistics you presented also show how few users are those with more merits than posts. Thank you for these statistics!

I found myself in this little 'bump' with Rath_, icopress and GazetaBitcoin! O0 It worked for me. I found us (you, icopress and I) here: https://i.ibb.co/HYc8t8Z/FIB66Lp.png
I thought nullius (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=976210) would be on the list, as I remember he would consistently earn merits with nearly every post he made, but after checking his profile I guess I was mistaken. I managed to find nullius on the graph: https://i.ibb.co/PTQsqM8/IqDIlSU.pngHe still has a merit vs. posts ratio bigger than 1, as he has 2582 merits and 2544 posts.
I have recently been congratulating a new user on the italian board for his astonishing Merit/Post ratio. This particular user is a well known expert user in the italian community, and already provided good content here on the forum, where he’s new. So this ratio is quite expected. So who is this user? You never said his name, yet you started your topic by talking about him :)

@turtlecute is his name. He runs a privacy oriented blog and a podcast. He is also an high member of the “priorato of Giacomo Zucco”, a not so secret sept of bitcoiners run by the infamous Italian toxic Maximalist.

sorted the users according to descending Received Merit/Post ratio I was also thinking if such statistics can be made. Mario, you are a great bitcoiner but eewww your quoting habits are quite awful. Just quote the relevant part of the posts, or don’t include it at all if you are answering the previous post!

Hello, it's me! Mario! ehm sorry... turtlecute!! Welcome! Now i lowered my ratio posting much more on BTCTalk but few days ago my ratio was near 4 :D Your ratio is still very good but take into account my earlier post: do not feel disappointed if it will lower even more. Having such a big merits vs. posts ratio is unnatural and almost impossible if you keep posting, on the long run. If you'll look well at the graph, you'll see that multiple of those which have very big such ratios are also inactive for a long time now... Take satoshi for example. but @filippone created this thread atfer some days we discovered my ratio and now im not in the ladder :( I think you are, but your small blue sphere from the graph is overlapped by another one. I tried to search for you, for a few minutes, but I did not find you. Yet I did not have much more time to search. I believe that, if you'll search well, you'll find yourself. I managed to find myself and I have a lower ratio than yours, so certainly you are there too :)
Mario, you are a great bitcoiner but eewww your quoting habits are quite awful. Just quite relevan part of the posts, or don’t include at all if you are answering to the previous post! This is something which happens to most of new members, let's be patient with him. turtlecute, you should take a look at this topic: [TIPS] to avoid pyramid quotes (for Newbies) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3749076.0). It is well explained how to properly and aesthetically use the quotes. Additionally, the sticky topics from Meta should also be a must-read for you. I hope this helps :)

There is no late comer in education, whenever one is ready he or she can go the educational center and acquire the needed knowledge. What I am trying to say that, though I came late to this informative thread but I have learned something today.
Thank you for breakdown the information to the bearish way for the layman (ordinary) man to understand. I hope the Italian user who made you to do the research and create this marvelous thread has gotten his answer. Op you can also update this thread time to time because there some users who have earn reasonable merits after the creation of this thread. Although I don't know the parameters used for analysis. Once again thanks you.

There are also users that had recent achievements in terms of merit activities in the past few months. I can somehow notice the changes on this forum and some are slowly getting back on their feet and slowly making progress from their respective boards. I also hope they'd get recognized. We know being patient sometimes can also be hard but let's just understand them since nobody started as very exceptional specially here on this forum. Though mostly aren't considered helpful in terms of posts and quoting, time will tell for them who knows they'll paved the path for the future foundation of thia forum.

I think its a nice idea to see who are the current achievers on this time provided as I saw a lot of new users or unfamiliar names that are now high rank. But maybe LoyceV got some thread with the same like this mate which is keep updating analysis for the merits, Im not sure if he or ddmrddmr doing it.
