Recently I came across a few articles on the Internet while trying to understand what makes sports betting so lucrative. I now know that there are three big sports that every Gambler, Sports Enthusiast, and a lot of fans are engaged in Sports betting (https://www.nielsen.com/insights/2021/sports-betting-whos-in-and-how-much-of-an-opportunity-do-they-represent/). I personally have not seen or realized it but a good majority of teens & preteens (https://raisingchildren.net.au/pre-teens/behaviour/behaviour-questions-issues/gambling) are already into it.

I hope everyone would agree with this list:

• Soccer
• Basketball
• Cricket
• UFC

This list is not based on betting revenue or based on the number of fans. It is simply compiled by me after watching the activity on this board for different games thread. I am aware that I did not add Tennis, Automobile racing, and Boxing as my question is about those sports that are not being discussed here but you do bet on them either occasionally or regularly.

Soccer (football) is mostly discussed on gambling discussion board. I believe it is the sport bet that is most common among people, including virtual sport betting too.

The matches that I like to gamble most on is football, including the in-play and also virtual footballs predictions.

I think boxing is more popular than UFC considering of how many threads are created for boxing match and most of them are active.

MMA isn't really popular because most people think UFC is MMA or MMA is UFC :D even though there are many other MMA promotions too e.g. KSW, PFL, Bellator etc.

Sometime I bet on Formula1 and MotoGP for fun, it's really unexpected to predict the winner.

Football is the correct term for what you call "soccer". In fact, I doubt anyone here even recognizes that word other than Americans.

I would gladly bet on any sport as long as I get good odds and understand a minimum amount about that sport and the history of the players involved. You do not need to be a genius to research a players past history of wins/losses. Thats universal for any sport.

As far as to your question of specifically which sport which is not listed here that I would love to bet on:

Asian martial art/other fighting styles which are not that prominent in western society. Sumo, for example.  In Japan, Sumo is a big thing and gets bet on all the time.

I like betting on Starcraft/Broodwar even though I'm losing overall because I'm really bad at it.  Lol.  That game for me is some sort of a guilty pleasure these days.  Lol.  I shouldn't be watching it.  But as a little kid I used play it a lot as my older brother and older cousins played it a lot too, both online and at LAN parties.  It's still by far the best RTS game in existence and I'd go far to say that any man, woman or child who says that there's some other RTS game that's better, I'd tell them they have no idea what they're talking about.  Lolol.

Boxing I guess would be next to your list, which is for sure on the preference of most gamblers here. Not surprising because boxing utself as a sport is already popular, while in this industry, match ups are as well thrilling especially for enthusiasts out there. Other sports I guess are formula racing, and if esports would count. Well basically, gamblers are choosing based on what sports are they familiar and enjoying with. This is also why I prefer sportsbetting than with other gambling games simply because entertainment would be always there. You'd also lose which is part of the activity itself but atleast, you'd enjoy the experience more, than just relying on your luck and eyeing for winning bet alone.

Sportsbet is mostly based on this three major games all the time.The first places goes to the Football,even though only 52 games qualify for the FIFA world.Huge number of the countries try to build their own country to target on next FIFA.The most of the sports betting was made on the football and the gambling sites owner also follow the same.Because the competition only allow the betting and winning of the game.

The gambling sites second with the interest of Cricket games.Because the betting was placed on Test matches separately,the test matches also includes the ashes match.Which was done against the Australia,New Zealand and England teams.Their will be separate leagues for ODI One day games and it also had separate game for the woman.The cricket also includes T20 IPL matches,which occur every year.Every matches had two teams,which make easy for Sportsbet.

It depends on which sport I like and which sport I personally understand the best. I can't remember if I had ever placed a bet for sports other than Cricket and soccer. In Asian countries, these two are the most popular sports and people understand these two perfectly. Though personally, I place most of the bets in soccer (Place bets on cricket occasionally), most people here place bets on cricket matches. I don't even anymore watch any other sports for a quite long time.

I'm a pure football bettor, I almost never bet on other sports, I've tried betting on UFC - basket ball (NBA) - boxing but I'm quite difficult to understand it, so I decided to only bet on football.

right now I'm trying to bet on e-sport, but the results are not good, I even have trouble finding references :D

For me I think it's either football, UFC, boxing and basketball are the most discussed sports in this board, I mean the majority. Mostly I do on basketball and seldomly on football. I think as a sport bettor you mostly focus on two or three sports and if by chance you're interested on other sports that wouldn't take much more time as long as it's not your favorite sports to bet to.

I used to bet on motor racing events. I know some may not consider that as a sport but it is to me. I like the thrill and I've gotten to know the top contenders every season but the interest just wasn't enough to keep me betting. I also don't have enough bankroll to gamble on different sports so I stick to football and basketball hehe.

Most that you will see is the NBA, you can be sure there are tons of basketball fans here also expressing thier bet on every match. The NBA threads go to hundred pages already. It's by far one of the sports I have tried as I can easily see people chooses a team to win.

One is also the UFC. Men are men and like combat sports. But I once tried betting on a chess match but was just a test. Apart from the list, it's Boxing that is very much easier to be dragged.

You mistakenly assume some of the name of franchise to the sports category.

UFC = MMA
NBA = Basketball

Actually Boxing and Tennis are popular too on sport betting if you will visit forum that specialized on gambling. The majority of forum member is just a fan of football that’s why it was always being discussed here. Football has so many league and this is the reason why gambling discussion is dominated by these sport.

Horse racing and hockey are two that I can add, its two of the popular sports betting that gamblers are betting on but do not have active discussions here or seldom discuss.
One of the reasons boxing and MMA have the most discussion or threads here is because of the worldwide appeal because it is being covered internationally, if there are threads on boxing expect a lot of replies because there are so many boxing fans here compared to other sports.

I am a soccer fan, so of course I will almost always bet on soccer matches. However, apart from soccer, I also bet on badminton matches, because apart from soccer, badminton is a sport that's also quite popular in my country (Indonesia). But unfortunately the discussion about Badminton has not been updated for a long time on this board.

The most talked about is football. Who doesn't like football? Great game, lively and supportive fans.

Aside from football betting, I occasionally bet on UFC whenever my African brothers - Francis Ngannou, Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya have a fight. Sadly, I lost my last bet when Kamaru Usman fought Leon Edwards. I am not giving up. I am gearing up to bet again on Israel Adesanya next fight.

Tennis is one of my choices because it has become one of the sports that I quite follow its development and I always try to watch the matches so that when choosing to bet, I'm quite sure of what the choices are, even though the results are not always good, another sport is Badminton because this is a very well-known sport in my country and many athletes from my country are quite accomplished but unfortunately I can't find many bookmakers provide betting markets on this sport and if there are not many types of bets so sometimes there is only a choice on the money line, and maybe because the competition in this sport is not as much as in other sports and also not very popular so providing bets on badminton is not a priority.

I think you are right. Most of the people in my friends circle also keep talking about these sports.
Soccer/Football is my favorite one and then comes Boxing. My friends like cricket way too much though.
So yeah, I guess these are indeed the most active sports betting options in the gambling industry too.

I think football, NBA, and Cricket are sports that many people like and bet on. And if we look at this forum, football seems to be the most discussed. But Cricket and NBA are also often discussed by many people here.

And discussing the sports we like is very interesting because we can share information that might be useful if we want to place bets on sports.

I'm not sure if I've ever bet on a cricket match, and I can't even remember the last time I sat down to watch cricket.
Football, NBA, and boxing are my favorites, but football is the one on which I place the most bets. That is in terms of betting, but in terms of debate, my favorite is NBA. There is never a dull moment when discussing the NBA, but unfortunately for me, my predictions don't always come true, and I end up losing my bets in the end.

We have lots of popular and legendary boxers in our country so I get really hooked on it. I love supporting our boxers so I usually bet whenever they have matches. Well, we have different preferences when it comes to sports but what is important is we know how to analyze the game.

I will not bet on sports that I don't understand because that would be a high risk, so I prefer to bet on football even though I don't fully know many of the clubs I bet on but at least I like this sport and don't want to try sports that I have never You know, after all, many like football betting on this forum and like to discuss football clubs on the forum.

Football is one of the best sports today to bet on, but we also have to make sure we understand and have good knowledge about soccer and make sure to find accurate information before betting.
and I like to bet on football because I like and often play football and football is a fun sport and I always watch football matches, and when I want to bet I do thorough research and this work can add to my knowledge in football. So I will bet on sports I think I understand it and can play it and win or lose most importantly I feel pleasure or satisfaction while watching it.

There's a couple of sports (I guess?) that I used to bet on in the past. Cockfighting for example, though not really a sport per se is one of those games that took most of my idle time in childhood and when I grew up, I took it upon myself to bet on some games there. I lost a couple, but won on much of them, so yeah good stuff.

Another game I'm really eager to have an organized betting system is Chess. Since it's gaining traction nowadays and is becoming more and more popular, a lot of people like me are really looking forward to bet on these games, regardless if I win or not. Apart from couch bets with friends and other people from the net that I came across with, no official or organized betting party was ever set for chess. at least none that I know of.

The nongamblers dependent on the picks given by the YouTubers will bet on the sports they don't even like but will not enjoy watching the game, which is not satisfying, unlike the sports fan. Football, you could say it's the type of sport that I like and also in my life, football is my favorite type of sport, of course I bet on that type of sport regularly. Online I also open betting opportunities for types of soccer sports internationally or locally.

I don't really know what isn't discussed in our community when it comes to certain sports. because, I rarely pay attention to something that is not very interesting to me. I mean we here have a lot of related threads that cover gambling and sports. but most of us, would not be very interested in something that is not very interesting.

so in general, the most interesting bets are like on your list. on average, most people like football and the NBA. moreover me, not only in terms of betting, but I really really like this one sport.

It really changes between countries, you'll find the a lot of European countries are focused on "football", along with horse racing, tennis, golf and similar sports. America has some rather unique sports that they generally play in large internal leagues - like the NBA, MLB and NFL. I cannot speak for places like Asia or Africa but they may follow a blend of both of these. To add further to your list - Boxing is common, along with eSports and Hockey. There are even a lot of providers offering things like political betting, like the next President, or special events like who will win the Eurovision song contest. Basically any place that gambling providers feel they can squeeze a profit.

I think the list is a good start, but there are definitely other sports that people might enjoy betting on. For example, I bet that many Americans enjoy betting on American football (NFL) and baseball (MLB). I also know people who enjoy betting on horse racing, golf, and even esports like League of Legends or Dota 2. e-Sport needs to be followed to find out the growth of the team's game. I think this is the most difficult type of sport to predict. In the past around 2012-2013, I think Natus Vincere/NA'Vi (Dota 2) team would be able to win The International, but they are just finished on the second. Likewise the Na'Vi team in Mobile Legends, at the M3 events 2022, I was disappointed with them. Thats mean, we really need to see their game and the character of the opponent's game play before betting.

Football is the most discussed topic in the forum because it is more popular than the rest games. I love placing my bet on football due to the fact that it is my favourite.

I understand the game and can easily predict the outcome of matches due to the recent performance of clubs. Though, I can also bet on boxing, this is also a sport of honour.

It checks out for me as I've placed a bet on all those four and they're even in order as I place more bets on both football and basketball because of the popular big leagues while I've been betting less on Cricket and MMA as I prefer the other sports. Aside from those two, I would mostly go to esports and NFL if the season already started but there are some esports events that I would prioritize even more since they're usually a one-time thing, unlike the big leagues such as the NBA or NFL.

Apart from that, because most people like watching football, it can be said that this gambling is one that most people are interested in, although there are also many other bets that can attract people to bet, such as NBA, Moto GP, boxing and depending on the taste of the gambler himself in choosing.

Yeah, pretty much that is the order of listing here in the community. You can have to see that Soccer could be the most discussed sports because there are a lot of members who love that sports and most likely betting on it. I'm a big NBA fan so yes, this could be in the second spot. I know cricket but I haven't bet on it, but I see it's popular amongst West Indies countries like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. For UFC, it has gain some traction as well in the last 10 years or so and it could be as exciting as boxing for me.

Of course, boxing is more popular because it has history more than 150+ years and MMA only has history more than 30+ years, it is also the reason why boxing superstars make more money than MMA superstar because their paperview, sponsors and advertisement are more expensive because they are more popular. People are having a hard time understanding the fact regarding the salary of the MMA figthers, they said it as unfair without knowing the history of the both. I usually bet on MMA especially on UFC, I prefer to bet in Main Event because it is the most exciting fight cards for the night.

UFC is not the only sports that I make a bet, I only make a daily bet on NBA but I currently experiencing a consecutive losses because I usually do multiple bets or what they called parlay. It is really hard to analyze because there are a lot of factors that should be consider. Odds also can be a factor, there are times that the underdog beats the favorite teams that makes my parlay to be invalidated.

Esports betting is also my thing, I usually bet on DOTA 2, Valorant and CSGO matches. I'm a fan of esports and I love watching teams from different organization especially in DOTA 2 wherein the gameplay, chemistry and graphics are so good.

Soccer is the most popular betting sports in my location. People prefer betting on football than any other sports because it is a popular game in my country. But immediately the European League ends and there are no longer matches, other sports betting will start getting the attention of gamblers. I have seen people bet on horse racing, basketball and ruby because there are no longer football games. Apart from sports people bet who will win elections and even awards. I have not bet on any other sports apart from football because of my interest. But I might consider betting in boxing in the nearest future.

No it's wrong, as we've already talked about in this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5436354.0), only bets on 4 sports are allowed at Japan actually, and Sumo wrestling is not one of them. Japan bettors do it clandestinely, but it's not very popular since it's a very closed sport with a very special culture and mindset, and matches are often fixed unfortunately. That's why there is no big bookmaker providing bets on this sport.
Regarding soccer, most of bookmakers and bettors use this word instead of football when they talk about soccer, because american football(NFL) is very popular among punters, and is the common word used to refer to this sport in the gambling world.  

I sometimes bet on football sports betting. But it's not very often because I don't know much about each club or team. And I mostly place sports bets based on the clubs or teams I know. But the result of that bet is that I lose more often than I win. But I have also experienced victory and it feels really exciting even though the winning money is not much.

The other sports that I like to add to OP's list are baseball and table tennis they are specific to countries mostly Europe and the US.
Casinos will not include these sports if they don't have regular bettors but football and boxing are two of the most popular.

I don't really bet on other sports than football, the only sport that am interested in is just football, am not really interested in any other sports, maybe it's because of the country that am from, football has the highest percentage of people watch or participating in it, other sports which you listed, just few percent of people are interested in it. Like cricket which you mentioned, I haven't seen anywhere that it's been played in my country, but football is everywhere that's why people bet on football more than other sports.

In my country football or soccer is not that very common, it is basketball and other sports.
So the selection of OP varies on which country we are in because people here are in different countries so possible we don't have the same answers. I like to add NBA but I think we have already an NBA thread here on gambling discussion.

I don't know why I'm usually very comfortable with this particular sports, soccer.... It comes with a different passion and ecstasy.., it comes with every possible revival and it kinda unites alot globally, so I'll still stick to it.
I tend to understand soccer more than any other games (even though I've played everyother possible games,..) the understanding is just about placing bets on which team wins in particular. I cannot really predict games like ice hockey,....why should I??

Yeah, I agree that those are popular. I'm mostly into boxing and basketball and sometimes jumps into other sporting events. I'd like to get into F1 racing and that's one of the most talked sports as well.

Mentioning also the other ones that I know like Chess and Bowling but they're like underrated sports that mostly can be found only on a few bookies.

Also, beach volleyball is the type of sport that guys would like to watch at all times.

I think you are right, the country you are will determine the sport that people really participate in, and it will determine the sport with people will always bet on, if you are a gambler in my country and you bet on NBA, then you are betting blindly, it will be difficult for you to see places where you will watch NBA matches, unlike when you are talking about football in my country, everywhere you go, you will be able to watch football matches, even local gambling shops, you will be able to watch football.

I'm not a bettor on sports that I'm not familiar with but I once bet on table tennis because of my friend's recommendation, some of the sports listed on casinos have consistent followers but they are not the popular discussion here in the gambling section, Dota is another I have a friend who likes to bet on Dota because he is a gamer, I guess as long as there are patrons on particular sports in sports betting the casinos will retain it.

Kinda odd how you didn't include eSports, it has its own mega thread here and is plenty active during tournament seasons,. Most especially Dota 2 and CS:GO afaik.

I usually watch football on my freetime, but never really bet on it competitively, maybe every now and then. Was recently into volleyball due to Yuji Nishida, mans a beast and couldn't help but watch more of him. Idk if it has a competitive scene or even considered a sport in the world in general, but I've also been watching more of Kyudo (Japanese archery)

Like what he said mate that he relies about how he evaluate the forum topics and conversation about games and those are the listed who comes first but like what you said? I also favor about eSports because I am also a fun of this , because as a Gamer before and now a gambler , I can tell that the eSports industry is truly increasing year after year and there are so much update going on as this was the young generation gambling (i am not degrading Oldschool games) but this is the trend coming in the years to come.

aside from Soccer (football), UFC, and NBA, i also love to bet sometimes on e-sports or other online sports since i've been playing computer games. the only thing I disliked about NBA and Football is that, it takes a long time to know about the results either you win or lose, coz sometimes i also prefer betting and just leave it there without watching the games due to some chores i need to do.

Table Tennis.
It got my attention when I saw how fast it can be profitable for a gambler. I don't know much about the players, especially in the Russia Liga Pro but I do like making long parlays for the favorites. Sometimes, I hit x20 - x30 depending on how many games are available.
But it's not like it's an assured bet, most of the time they are just blind bets and I am just trying my luck if I could hit a jackpot while trying to increase my VIP status.
The same with what I do with Tennis in WTA and ATP. I win here a lot of times as the favorites do likely win their games in high probability.

Formula 1 obviously. That is the thing I follow the most and I am very fond of, and it is one that you could easily bet on as well. Not really that common for people to wager on it a lot, considering even the biggest events there do not get too much betting, and the fact that Max is ahead of everyone most of the time, people just do not see the point, either you bet on Max to win and get a bad return not worthy of a bet, or you lose if Max loses, or you risk a lot by betting on someone else which very rarely ever happens.

However, it's good because I like watching it, and having a bet on it makes watching it a lot better, just like most other sports.

I like to also bet on Rugby ...simply because I know a lot about the Sport.. and let's not forget about eSport, which is one of the most underrated Sports in gambling at the moment.  ::)

I also like to bet on Table Tennis, because I love the Sport and the energy that goes into it.... for me it is a little bit faster than normal Tennis, so I can bet on a lot of games.  :D :D :D

I hope more Sports can be added, but I think most Bookies and casinos are focusing on the sport with the most viewers.  ::) ::)

Yeah it's underrated sports in gambling, but it's not underrated for the current society where many people are trying to spend most of their times just to mastering the game and become a pro player or streamer to make money.

Old bettors still think esport isn't a sport because there's no physically involved and you're only sit down for a whole day. But I'm sure many people will want to bet on an esport, sometime the odds is good and upset have higher chance to happen.

This is not on the list maybe OP is not a gamer and maybe focus more on traditional game but personally I also want to place a bet here.
I'm a gamer, watching the games live is exciting as well. This is not underrated sports, its just that the attention is not that high and you might be a player as well so you can understand the game and you can know where to place a bet, you can also saw a lot of bettors online making their own analysis on where to place a bet, Esports should be included on the list.

It seems that it happens in sports that are not too well known so the competition is not as tight as in football where there are many unexpected possibilities, like in badminton we will rarely see the top players lose in the early rounds at least the top players will reach the quarterfinals so at the start a tournament will be very easy for bettors to make a profit by betting on top players but the profit is small because the odds are so low unless we do a multibet, but don't do that when it's past the quarterfinals because the battle is already fiercer and it is already more difficult the result will come out.

Really? I had assumed there was some high level gambling going on in the Sumo world because it is extremely prestigious and only for a rare priviledge of a select few members of the Japanese high society. Obviously at that kind of level I thought there would be some kind of gambling. And yes, while gambling is technically considered illegal in Japan, its not really illegal. It just has the image of being illegal. They still gamble.

Its a grey zone and they find many ways and loopholes around their gambling restrictions.

Thanks for correcting me. I have gone ahead and amended the topic. I generally do not bet on sports, but I was curious to know which games are the ones that are watched only for betting. I also found out that the biggest betting revenue generated by a sport is NFL. I have not seen any thread related to it or I might have missed it.

Betting on soccer makes the games more fun to watch especially on the weekend. It is not just about the potential to win from betting but the joy you get to know that you got a prediction right, means you know enough about a sport you so love. I am careful betting on soccer because of how I can become too addicted that I begin to use more money than I normally use in betting.

It is more a game than a sport though because it is played with friends. I like to bet on card games whenever I play with friends.

Tennis game and basket ball (NBA) game are the two games i have placed a bet on before now. I dont really know much about the two games. I was attracted by the odds, but Soccer is my most favorite sport game that i bet whole lot of time including the virtual play.

Boxing is another game i have tried twice and it was fun.

From the choices above, the one which I watch most often is basketball. That's why if I place bet to basketball compared to the other three.my second choice is to bet on UFC, same reason, I watch is mostly than the 2 left sports. But if there will be an e-sport option, I'll probably go with that first.

I personally won't bet on or have any experience with any other sport than football and cricket but in my opinion, tennis is the most famous sport after what you've listed and people mostly bet on that after these sports. I do use to watch tennis too in the past but I don't have much experience with it nor do I know all the players and tournaments, etc.

What makes sports betting so lucrative is the wish to win big rewards or at least have more chances of winning a reward since though it's gambling of a sort but it isn't solely dependent on luck and your knowledge and experience play a great role too.

So, that means there are also a lot of bettors in this type of sport and that also means we can choose from several options on how we are going to bet on our favorite teams. However, I'm not really into football. I am focused in basketball, specifically the NBA. Simply because I have enough knowledge to understand the risk of my bets. I have also found several reliable sources where I can get a real time updates on teams, rotation, injuries and everything regarding the team updates.
Therefore, it's wiser to choose on betting to a sport where you have enough knowledge to reduce the risk of losing.

If your goal is to earn a profit then you should only concentrate on the games that you love the most because you are also familiar on how the game is played and the teams or players that are involved. It's still great that you take the courage to try other games. There are UFC, NBA, and E-sports threads in this board. Maybe you will need to hang out more on these threads if you are serious on improving your skill on them.

I think cricket is a popular sport in India but in other parts of Asia, it was basketball. Soccer games must be popular in Brazil and similar countries. It's interesting how a country can influence us the sport that we like but maybe a few percent don't follow it and have their own favorites.

For me, it has always been football, though I do sometimes touch on tennis and basketball, and maybe occasionally on UFC, but my major sports of focus when ever I bet is football.

Those 4 above sports might be indeed the most popular ones in the gambling industry although I do know about soccer only because the other 3 sports are not popular in my country. If I have to add other sports which I used to bet are Motosports such as MotoGP and F1, and the other one which is popular in my country is Badminton.

Most of the time, the sports that are not very popular like you mentioned badminton or any other game, people don't really watch them a lot so they don't even know who are the best players in those games and that is the disadvantage if one goes for betting on those games even if there can be countless opportunities of winning bets and parlays.

And also football has always been my first list for betting, I can be said to have almost followed in the top list of current football competitions, such as the Premier League, La Liga and others. Maybe this happened because I do have a hobby of football as well, so that encouraged me to take part in the betting that was being held. i believe, boxing is included in one of the most popular sports here in the forum, in which gamblers bet. look at how many threads are dedicated to boxing, like every match of popular boxers. and the discussions can go for months or years, some are even just planned fights. and it is also one of the sports i bet, if i know the boxers of course.

This means most users in the forum are men yet not many of us are into car races that sometimes we watch very often on TV. The ones we can see are very physical sports and not all are into esports which most likely people here are aged 30 and above.

Here in my country most of people are mostly into Soccer and Baseball, so I would say baseball, even though I do not follow it much.
It is due a national tradition we have here on baseball, and the fact there are players from my country in important leagues in the United States and the Caribbean.

I always bet on basketball throughout my entire sports betting journey but if considering betting on other sports, my preferred are boxing, MMA and E-sports matches. Not doing random betting but I also have knowledge of these sports and leagues that help me do my own analysis.

Like myself, I start of my betting activities by betting randomly, then, football and MMA were the two sports I loved to bet on, even though had absolutely zero knowledge of this sports, I would still put some random bets on, and of course, I lost majority of my bets , to the extent that even the ones I managed to win doesn't give me the joy, winning a bet give a person.

I find horse racing to be a very difficult sport to bet on because you can literally not do enough research to know or understand how to place your bets considering the fact that any of the participants can win based on the strength and stamina of their horses which can't be known so easily.
