Title: Clarification on Plagiarism Rule and Policy
Post by: aanestic on April 18, 2023, 10:14:44 PM
To help clarify this important issue, I would like to start a discussion about the plagiarism rule and policy on bitcointalk.org. Specifically, I would like to address the following questions:

What qualifies as plagiarism on the forum?
What are the consequences for violating the plagiarism rule?
How can users ensure that their posts are original and do not violate the plagiarism rule?
Are there any exceptions or nuances to the plagiarism rule that users should be aware of?

-->> Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0)

33. Posting plagiarized content is not allowed.[e]

33. This includes both copying parts or the entirety of other users' posts or threads and copying content from external sources (e.g. other websites) and passing it as your own.

If your brain is functioning well, and you are sober enough, you should be able to understand everything right up there

You have been in that forum for almost a year and still ask questions like someone who just joined yesterday. Do you know how to use the forum search button?

1. Plagiarism is plagiarism every where. If you have copied someone else post and posted as your own, that's plagiarism. If you use a source link in the post, that's not.
2. Ban without any more consideration unless you are a significant asset to the forum.
3. To ensure users writing original post, ask them to write their own.
4. There are exceptions like not getting banned; told you above.

Plagiarism is everywhere not only here but also outside on this forum if you have knowledge about SEO and a blog site you should know that plagiarism content won't be able to rank up on the SERP and your site will be banned on Google and won't be able to index any content from your blog.

It's the same here you will be banned if you post plagiarism content without proper credit to the content owner. The reason why they do not allow plagiarism is that it would also affect the forum in the future sample if Google detected that there are lots of plagiarism on this forum then they penalize all content/posts that were recently indexed, will be removed from the SERP or the forum will be banned for indexing any content to Google.

To help clarify this important issue, I would like to start a discussion about the plagiarism rule and policy on bitcointalk.org. Specifically, I would like to address the following questions:

What qualifies as plagiarism on the forum?
Copying part or all of someone's writing without acknowledging that the work doesn't belong to you by referencing it. It is like claiming that a piece of information belongs to you while you copied it from somewhere.
Quote
What are the consequences for violating the plagiarism rule?
The punishment for plagiarism is a permanent ban. You will not be able to post on the forum or create another account except it is for the appeal of the ban. The forum bans individuals and not accounts so if you create another account after a ban, it is called ban evasion.
Quote
How can users ensure that their posts are original and do not violate the plagiarism rule?
Creative thinking and inspiration are the birthplaces of originality. The forum promotes originality but you don't necessarily need to only post your ideas, just ensure you quote or reference the source of your information and that will be fine.
Quote
Are there any exceptions or nuances to the plagiarism rule that users should be aware of?
Plagiarism cases and handled differently by moderators. But the best exception is to avoid plagiarism.

How can users ensure that their posts are original and do not violate the plagiarism rule?
Your own words and your own thoughts which are you're safe, how to avoid?
Don't interact with that topic that you don't know.

Are there any exceptions or nuances to the plagiarism rule that users should be aware of?
No exception, no second chance.
For every platform that we join or use, there should be terms and this forum has also rules and guidelines that you must follow.
It's ideal for newbies to read the official guidelines on the forum before starting to post.

What qualifies as plagiarism on the forum?

Copying someone else’s work and passing it off as your own.
What are the consequences for violating the plagiarism rule?
If you’re caught plagiarizing, your account will be permanently banned and you cannot create a new one, that would be ban evasion. The only chance you have of coming back to the forum is creating an appeal thread to plead your case.

How can users ensure that their posts are original and do not violate the plagiarism rule?
Try and be as authentic as possible, and add reference links where necessary.

Are there any exceptions or nuances to the plagiarism rule that users should be aware of?
Plagiarism is handled case-by-case, moderators can be lenient sometimes and only delete the plagiarized post instead of banning the account.

In my opinion, the OP discovered the wrong topic for himself, which should excite him.
OP, it would be helpful to read the ban evasion rules, as that is the rule that will apply to you directly.
In addition, the second topic created by AI, I hope will be the final one in your stay on the forum.
I really hope for your ban.

1. Copying an article of someone and post it as yours is generally people tend to follow on bitcointalk
2. Permanent ban.
3. Don't copy anything from internet to post it here, you can take reference before posting but don't take credits for someone else content.
4. Pictures that seems the possible exception to my knowledge.

P.S if you really want to post an article which you think it maybe useful for others then simply copy the post and use
Code:
[quote url=(copy the original link) (copy and paste the article that you want to post) [/quote]

Plagiarism is just that you don't copy someone else's content and pose it as your's because you are not the original author of that so you are violating the forum rules. The simple way is to add source link at the bottom or write that content in quotes as follows:

Code:
[quote] This is where you place copied content [/quote]

To answer you question how do we avoid it is that you write your own and participate in discussion about which you have idea and knowledge.Suppose someone is asking about wallet and you have knowledge so contribute in your words what you want to share but on topic rather then searching for some articles and then writing the same thing you found over net as your posts. There is no chance that what you will write match exactly to someone else's content as there is difference of words and explanation. So gain knowledge and write your original posts if you want to avoid it.

Nine pages of nothing else but bounty reports and authentication posts to apply for bounties. And then suddenly he starts creating threads showing a high English proficiency. Very suspicious indeed. Someone who doesn't share a single thought for over a year is now asking what new subforums need to be added. Among the suggestions, he would like to have a dedicated board for mining. I wonder why the admins never thought of that. ;D
