Let us discuss in this thread the things one should completely avoid while gambling. Here are some suggestions according to me :


1) Do not gamble in work area : It is not ethical to do so. Your employer is paying you to work for him for certain hours. If you waste these hours for gambling, it is a bad habit.

2) Do not take loan to gamble: Some young guys are so irresponsible that they take loans to gamble. It is a very bad move and can even produce life threatening conditions in future when loan recover agents knock your door.

I do gamble at work yet I think it is super bad luck when doing so by playing slots,at least that happened to me while I am not caring much about the amount of money my company pays me,they pay me the minimum amount to stop leaving the company not a cent more,it is a dream shatter,the salary is the drug they give us to stop following our dreams as they say,so I only not play at work because of bad luck.

I do in fact gamble at work and it is only to place sport bets,I analyse a bit and then place those sport bets in a short amount of time.As for the loan it is always the worse possible thing a gambler can do.

1. Gambling to earn money.
2. Promotions aren't always make the gamblers will earn money.
3. Gambling base on people predictions or gamble on a game that many people likes.
4. Gambling when high.
5. Don't take any emotion or under pressure while gambling.

This depends on your type of work and how much gambling can impact your job. I don't see how spending ten minutes to place sports bet will affect someone working as backoffice staff in a servicing company whose job is routine and not pressing. For people handling critical operations that requires  high psychological focus, gambling may be discouraged.

This is the worst thing any gambler should do. There is high chance such funds will be lost. I have tried it several times when I was less experienced and it never always end well. Gambling should be done with spared funds, money one can afford to loose. No one can afford to loose borrowed funds (money they do not have).

To add to what you already suggested,  gamblers should learn to take a break after series of losses or after a major win. This is good for the psychology.

Do not gamble when you at work place.
Do not gamble with the amount of money that you can not afford to lose. That is why it is good for gamblers to gamble with little amount of money.
Gamblers should not continue to gamble after several losses.
Gamblers should stop gambling after he won some amount of money.
Gamblers should not see gambling as a way of earning money.

OP I believe topic of this nature have been treated here and if you use the search engine you could come across it but however, I would list some few things as I can remember. I believe some members might have already provided them but I would still list the ones I know and they are as follows;

Do not gamble with the mindset of making profit otherwise you will be disappointed with the outcome.
Gamble for fun and not being desperate to win.
Have a budget specifically for gambling.
Draft out your day and time set for gambling.
Do not chase loss while gambling as it results to possible addiction.
Do  not gamble in the presence of your kids or family.

I believe these little tips can guide you through a bit.

Yes that's a big no if you are an employee but there are people who really don't follow that simple rules.

Although this is not advisable, for me, as long as I can pay the loan and I would gamble only what I can afford to lose, I guess it's okay.

We have different ways of managing our funds, and I believe what's bad is if we don't know how to handle our loans.

In simple word

Being responsible for yourself ~XD I think we all know these one is already being share a thousand time. All these is because most the time we are still think of our loses money and chasing the money.

Then, these problem came out.

Gambling is always risky no matter where or how it is played. It is very important for a person that gambling should be taken only for fun and not as a means of earning, so that gambling cannot harm or make him addicted. Both loans and gambling are very risky and if these two happen together it becomes more risky.  So one should never gamble with a loan. And if you gamble at work, besides causing problems at work, the chances of gambling losses are high, so it is definitely not a good idea to do either.

I'm sure everyone already understands that never gamble at work or in the office because it will disrupt your work and damage your career, especially borrowing money to gamble, it is highly discouraged to use borrowed money to gamble because it will make gambling even more uncontrolled with risks. which is higher, especially when you experience defeat, of course having a lot of debt will never be good in the end.

There are many things we have to avoid when gambling because maybe everyone has a different view too and there are definitely those who have the same view in this thread, the point is never gamble if you are in an emotional state and never gamble if you don't have money, gambling must be with a calm heart also with money that is ready to lose, because gambling should be just entertainment, nothing more than that.  ;)

 - Don't think about winning but rather think about enjoying
 - Don't think about our problem, it destroys our focus
 - Don't be too emotional, accept whatever the results of our bets
 - Lastly, Don't think of gambling as our way of living

Might I miss some but these are the things I did when gambling as I think it was just solely for entertainment and fun.

do not gamble in front of children. that's something i've avoided since i first started gambling. this is because children are very easy to imitate the behavior of adults and gambling in front of them is quite stupid because they will see what we are doing and start to be curious about it, and in the end we will lead them into gambling where they should at that age they don't.

Avoiding alcohol while gambling is the most practical thing I could say here. People have different tolerance level but it remains a fact that drinking clouds your mind to some level. You need high level of concentration specially if you're into skill-based games. I guess it's more acceptable to be a bit intoxicated when playing slots or other luck-based games but that still affects your decision making.

Let me see, there are a lot of things that we shouldn't do
- You are not drunk or intoxicated when gambling.
- You don't need to depend on anyone's opinion to gamble because this is a game where you are the master.

Actually, there are many other things that could be mentioned, but I think each player will need to realize whether that action is harmful to themselves and those around them. The suggestion that I would consider reasonable for people who are not addicted to gambling is simply to view it as a form of entertainment, whether offline or online. Also playing while you have other things to do is on my list since this will make your attention divided that will give you confusion while playing which is very dangerous on gambling.

For me, always avoid playing the game you're not familiar with. A common mistake for most gamblers as they don't know much about the game but still continue to try, resulting in an expensive mistake. Better to focus on the game you know more and have experience and build up a strategy using your experience.

Yeah, gambling while performing your work functions is against the work ethic. It doesn't only lead to loss of manhours but it could reduce productivity. It will lead to distraction or loss of concentration which can lead to a reduction in work performance. Lack of concentration could also lead to costly mistakes or even industrial accidents. But if it is not against the work rules, it can be acceptable to bet doing free time or break. It will not be out of place to place or check a bet during break especially if you are gambling responsibly.

The number one rule in gambling is to gamble with what to have and can afford to lose. Gambling wins are not certain in spite of an accurate analysis or uncommon skills. Use common sense, don't gamble when you feel there's something bad or you don't like. You might not realize it during gamble, after you gamble you will realize it whether you spent too much or not. - Do not gamble to escape from your life's problem. Face whatever challenge is thrown at you.
- Do not gamble because you want to join the trend. You will lose money faster than the speed of light.
- Do not gamble when you are angry, sad or depressed. Likewise, do not gamble when you are too excited or overly happy. You are bound to make very poor decisions.
- Do not gamble with the hopes to become a millionaire in a few weeks or ever. It is not a get rich quick scheme.

Placing a bet on a game that we are not familiar with, of course we will not be able to understand the bet so it is very easy for us to lose in the game, playing a game that we have mastered will certainly reduce the risk of losing in the bets we play and also we can survive in the game we play.

Of course we have to take advantage of the bonuses we receive and it would be better for us to play more relaxedly with the bonuses we receive and if we feel we have won, don't forget to enjoy the victory and don't let us not be able to control ourselves in placing bets correctly the bonus we get.

I will make an example just to prove it.
Whenever we are losing like almost half of our balance we tend to make choices that are not easy to understand.
For me, what I do is put all the bets in, in Plinko I press the mouse unlimited in a fast mode. Like I am surrendering and just want to give the gambling site all my balances and telling myself they should take it all like they are crocodiles.
I keep on pressing the bet button without thinking about what comes next. That is not a wise decision because we are wasting money like we don't care for it.
It comes from chasing the losses and I do understand the feeling that we just want our money back but it doesn't work that way. They are not going to give back like we are expecting it too. They will keep on taking so might as well take advantage of the profits that we will get in early bets.

That's a grave offense you will get fired or you will have no chance for a promotion because you will lose your reputation, gambling on work is like stealing when you're at work the management expects you to give your undivided attention and full effort and they expect you to abide all their policy, not only you can lose your job, if they want to retain you, you lose your chances to get promoted on higher positions especially on something that deals with finances

This will break your finances it's like throwing away money because in gambling there's no guarantee of profit and loans are only for setting up a business or you have an emergency and you need urgent money, and if you used it for gambling it could be gone in just one sitting, so as much as possible avoid taking a loan for gambling.

 As an employer and I find out my employee is gambling using work period I can be so kind to grant you a one time grace never to reiterate the bad working habit of gambling at work, in a subsequent case I will have no choice but to send you home with a sack letter there you will have much time to
concentrate on your gamble as you wish.

Using loan for gambling is a total bullshit, you used your personal money and couldn't win what's the long shot that you will get a win using loan money?

Additional list of things to avoid as a gambler:
1. Don't be on drugs or alcohol before and while gambling.
2. Don't use money that's meant for a meaning purpose for  gamble ( people are so greedy that they damn the consequences using contributions money put under their care for gamble later lose the money. Such habit can destroy relationships).
2. Don't make the gambling house your second home ( don't spend much of your time in a casino set a time limit as you do set a bankroll for yourself).

Gamble with time,  this is very important because our time determines every experience we are going to get from whatever ventures we go into and gambling has a lot of its own negativities and those negativities have affected a lot of gamblers who have failed to apply that time consciousness and what they allow themselves get exposed to at some point,  this is one way to check your gambling excesses and once you discovered that you are going overly too much,  then you have to draw a line and stop.

Another thing to avoid in gambling is the Greed factor because once you allow your greed to have a better part of you,  it becomes likely that you are going to lose more while gambling,  if the above aspects are put in place I believe that every gambler will have a safe and secured gambling environment.

Not sure if this was already but avoid playing if you are drunk, this will be a disaster waiting to happen especially when your fingers are fat. I think there is already a thread about someone who was drunk and he seems to have nothing to do so he plays in an online casino.

In the physical casino though they are offering liquors to those guys playing, I guess it's not such a big deal. It's to the casino's advantage to get their visitors drunk and enjoy being there while losing money.

Well, I'll focus specifically on poker, although there are tips already said that apply to everything, such as not playing drunk.

Number one, gambling in your work is very risky, some companies have in their contract that you should not steal the company's time, and doing this is like stealing the company's time so there's a probability of getting fired and you will have bad records and will have a hard time finding new employers, so even if you're into gambling, don't do it on work protect your livelihood and your career.

Number two is also very bad and it's one of the rules in responsible gambling not to take a loan to gamble, someone taking a long to gamble is already considered a chronic gambler.

not just loans, any money that you cannot afford to lose should not be gambled. a lot of people tend to fail on this and a lot of them tend to think that they can double or triple the money but end up just losing it all and putting themselves in financial trouble and probably incurring debt just to replace the money they gambled that they cannot afford to lose.

Indeed, it's not ethical, it's not professional and it's not honest with your boss, your company, neither with your customers. Of course people get bored quite often at work and may wish to gamble to relax and relief from stress a little bit, however the consequences can be very harmful for your career. Your boss and other employees around you will look to you in a very negative way if you gamble there. You will be seen as a sloppy and lazy worker, who will have difficult having access to promotions on your career.

Yes, never take loans to gamble, doesn't matter if it's from a bank, a friend or familiar. It's the recipe to accumulate debt and go bankrupt. Remember gambling isn't an investment, and loans are only for investments which will return you profits along the time. If you are going to borrow money, make sure you are going to put it into good use, into something solid and sustainable which will generate income for you, so you can repay the loan and still have some profit on your pockets. For gambling purposes you should only use money you would use for leisure activities.

The is out of greed that people think that they will take the loan, gamble with it, make the money at least 2x, return the loan and keep the winning profits with them. Sounds interesting and easy, isn't? But in reality, this does not work in this way as most of the time, everything works well as per plan except for the winning in gambling.

I always avoid drinking alcohol when I gamble, now do not get me wrong I have nothing against alcohol and those that enjoy a drink or two, however when it comes to gambling even if you are trying to obtain some fun you need to remain as clearheaded as possible, and drinking alcohol or using any substance that clouds your mind is a big mistake, because if you find yourself in a difficult situation when you are gambling then it is more likely you will make a mistake and lose a lot of money as a result of your intoxication.

Things one should avoid while gambling:

- Don't gamble if you can't afford to do it. There are a lot of people who think they can make a fortune with just $50 which might be their two weeks' household expenditure based on where they live. It doesn't work that way, there is a possibility for that to happen but the odds are way too tiny for you to risk the only money you have.

- Don't get greedy. If you've gambled and won some money, don't risk it to win more. People usually lose what they've won just because they think they can win more with it which barely happens.

- Don't chase your losses. If you've lost 30% of your total bankroll, don't use the remaining 70% trying to recover that amount by using strategies and stuff, you will barely get anything back but there are high chances that you will lose everything in no time.

- Don't be an irresponsible gambler. Always set your limits and follow them, have a daily, weekly, or monthly budget for your gambling activities and follow that budget, strictly.

The most important rule I follow is that I never gamble in front of my kids or any other teenagers. With time and experience, I know the good and bad sides of gambling. They don't, and there is a big change, if they see us gambling, they might get inspired to gamble. Which I think can have a bad impact on their future. Because they are still young and immature. Right, never gamble with debt. Those who take part in gambling with loans end up living very badly. Although there is no legal casino site in my country but I have seen locals in our country gambling by sitting on the roadside. They mostly participate in gambling by taking loans from people. I don't gamble anymore like I used to, but whenever I gamble, I try to hide my gambling activity from my children or any other teenagers. But the main problem is that the area where I live is not free from gambling. The environment encourages gambling. So even if I don't expose myself, my children are exposed to gambling due to environmental reasons. That is something I cannot stop. 5. Avoid on chasing losses, this had been the most common issue on why gamblers do really end up on a disaster.

Everything should really be just that fine if you do have that kind of control but we know that each person does have different approach and taking towards
things and this is why we do see different scenarios or conditions basing up on the things that they've been doing or simply with their decisions

Here are some things that I'd like to add to it.
Avoid getting emotional: while gambling you should never get emotional for your loss. Emotion plays a big part in gambling and you should always try to avoid it no matter what. Being affected by emotion can lead to losses and decisions that are not in your favor. One should learn how to control it and make decisions based on their strategy.

Do not gamble with money that you can't afford to lose: this is a big thing in gambling. In my perspective, the amount you put into gambling you should always consider it lost or rather you can think of it like a payment for the entertainment you are getting from gambling. And what you win is a bonus that you get for using that platform. If you can create a mindset like this, then your gambling journey will be stress-free not full of regrets and depression.

Do not over gamble: set up a strategy so that you gamble certain amount of money for certain amount of bets. Do not chase your losses and think of as what is gone is already gone. Move on to the next stage. When you chase your losses, you lose instead and it becomes stress instead of entertainment.

Learn to take a break: never gamble when he was stressed or losing too much and the luck is not at your favor. Give it some time and take a break, go outside and do other stuffs that will keep you away from gambling.

Here are some rules I followed when gambling:

Don't gamble with emotion, and don't gamble if you don't have enough money.

If you can't control your emotions, you won't be able to make the right decision.

- Avoid following social media platforms like Facebook or Telegram for match predictions, as well as paying a fee for such forecasts.
- Don't use gambling as a coping mechanism for your hurts and anxieties.
- Remain calm while your scheduled bets are in progress.
- Don't be worried or criticize yourself for losing bets since the outcome wasn't what you had anticipated.
- Don't always assume that someone else's gambling is correct without conducting your own analysis.

That's funny. What rule of ethics does it break?
Have you considered that people have many different jobs, some involving waiting for hours for something. Imagine that you're a truck driver. You pull up to the terminal and they start loading stuff into your rig, which takes an hour because there's a forklift bringing stuff over from the warehouse and they have to fill the trailer so that there's no free space and secure the load. What are you supposed to do? You can take a leak, eat a sandwich, but at some point you'll be on your phone watching youtube or something. Who's there to say you can't gamble?

There are jobs where you shouldn't gamble because it's unethical. For example you wouldn't want a teacher to gamble in the classroom while you write your test. At the same time it doesn't matter what someone does on his lunch break. You can go to the bathroom and spin a roulette wheel while you sit on your throne and nobody will know.

When you are in a very bad mood stay away from gambling, this is the emotional time and they make you do things you don't have in plan to do, also I heard from a old gambler that when your spirit isn't in a good mood it attracts bad luck, if you gamble on such days you will likely lose all your money.

4. Do not gamble like your life depends on it, if you are like this it's because you don't believe in anything else, most people who do this don't have any source of income and they believe in that slim luck they have, what happens if such people lose money? As for the first one, if a gambler is a high roller, this should not apply and if someone is gambling within his budget with this large amount of money, then it shouldn't be any issue as long he know the risks of him gambling that amount. He gambled $175 and paid $120. He negotiated with the cashier so that he could bring the balance later, but was refused such a privilege. He just ended up bringing a public embarrassment upon himself.
