Title: [WTS] Silver/Gilt 1 BTC Casascius Coin from 2013
Post by: PantsParty on February 16, 2024, 02:21:12 AM
Offers have fallen through for the moment, looking for new offers.

I'm looking for offers on this coin. Aiming for around 1.5 btc. I bought this coin from klondike_bar on this forum in 2014 and have had it in storage ever since.

minerjones has agreed to be escrow if there is a sale.

Thanks

I'm bad at dates, I've put new provenance images up in the gallery with the correct dates.

Are there additional costs (customs and import sales tax) if you ship overseas (EU) ?

It would depend on how the coin is labeled, the amount of dollars that it is declared at and also the carrier that is used.

Edit: coin is pending and while offers can be made it is considered sold unless current deal falls through.

Thanks

I can vouch that this coin was purchased from me in 2014. I received it directly from Mike C.

Its a shame to see the fall in 'BTC-based premium' as these coins once sold for 2-3BTC each - but the 'USD-based premium' has never been better!
I guess I always considered these as hedging my bets against BTC by paying a premium for cold storage ;)

Thanks to everyone who has pm'd me offers I can't respond to everyone because of the limits on my account but I am trying! As in the edit on the top, the coin is pending a sale. If you'd like to pm an offer still you can but it would only be entertained if this tentative sale falls though. Thanks!

Congrats on all the offers. The gilt Cas is certainly one of the most special. Congrats to the buyer.

Congratulations on this sale, fingers crossed it goes through.

Can you please be so kind to disclose the final sale price so buyers and sellers know as a historical point of reference.

Thankyou PantsParty!

I'm interested in making an offer, though I'm unable to send a PM because of my Newbie rank:

I have a tentative deal with PantsParty set up and we are planning to ask minerjones to help with escrow. I've hit my PM limit though, so this post serves as my acknowledgement of the pending deal.

I received a PM from minerjones, but I'm blocked by the PM limit for another half a day, so I'll wait until that clears up before proceeding.

PantsParty, minerjones, I have received your latest messages, acknowledging here (my last PM to you both seems to have fully consumed my 2 PM/day limit).

We have come to an agreement and have completed the transaction. minerjones has received and confirmed the coin, and it is pending a transfer to me.

Confirming the transaction has completed and the coin was sold to Aria42 for 1.35btc.

Thanks to minerjones for brokering this deal. For posterity, the offers on this coin ranged from 1.15 at the lowest to 1.52 at the highest. Offers that were higher than the sell price obviously did not pan out and I attribute that to the recent run up in BTC/USD while this coin was on offer. Thanks to everyone for their interest.

From my buyer's perspective, sharing one factor in the sale FWIW: I valued (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3257048.160) the clear provenance extremely highly, probably higher than most. Given the high cost of 1 BTC nowadays, I personally require a very strong lineage before even considering making an offer.

That mattered to me more than the fact that it's ungraded and not the most perfect specimen -- though I still look for a certain minimum quality, and I also highly valued that the coin was handled (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421036.msg4576919#msg4576919) and stored (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3913181.msg37584366#msg37584366) very carefully for all of these years.

OP showed (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5485326.msg63670493#msg63670493) where the coin was bought from (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421036.msg6034934#msg6034934), which the original owner vouched (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5485326.msg63678761#msg63678761) for; the original owner is a long-time member who sourced (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421036.msg4576919#msg4576919) the coin directly from Mike Caldwell. And we have records from 10 years ago showing all of this, with the timelines matching when the coin was produced (one of the final batches ever produced). So all of that was important in my purchasing decision.

Finally, I wanted to finally secure a coin relatively quickly after starting a halfhearted attempt three years ago. The silver gilts seem relatively rare nowadays, with a nice one only appearing once every few months on these forums, so I didn't want to wait a few more months/years for another good coin to show up.

Different buyers will have different factors they value, but those were mine.

Those are kind words, about a gorgeous coin!

For those interested, I have an additional coin from that same roll of gilt coins that I am willing to part with - but due to BTC value it would need to be a trade done within canada.
