Title: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: purinZ14 on May 23, 2024, 12:21:41 PM Just from the title alone… I wanted to ask what possibly the best wallet to hold bitcoin in?
Before anyone says that it depends on what I need specifically then here is what I am here for. I can not decide which one really is the best based on the things I want. First of all I plan on holding some bitcoin (not huge amount) for a foreseeable future. However I also plan on swapping it for usdt from time to time aka when the price is getting high. I need a wallet that has low fees when swapping , preferably decentralized and in mobile and is secure. Any recommendations? Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: lucolo on May 23, 2024, 12:25:18 PM Bitcoin Core? Space is not even a problem if you enable pruning. I see no reason to use something different.
Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Charles-Tim on May 23, 2024, 12:27:39 PM You can use Unstoppable wallet. It has has the swapping feature and it supports bitcoin. It's still best to own a hardware wallet if you have plans of holding your BTC for a long time. IMHO, it doesn't matter whether you hold big or small, if you are for security then buy a hardware wallet like a Trezor wallet because it will serve as your investment too to protect your asset.
But if you can't avail that yet, the option for you is to use Electrum but this for Bitcoin only. There other desktop wallets too but most of the members here will suggest you Electrum. And about the swapping, you can use instant exchanges to transfer it there. If you use windows, you have other options too ~> https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet?step=5&platform=windows And for the hardware wallet, aside from Trezor there are other options as well ~> https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet?step=5&platform=hardware Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Alberto Minali on May 23, 2024, 01:19:57 PM Why not bitcoin core for real?
Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Kruw on May 23, 2024, 01:26:57 PM Why not bitcoin core for real? I don't recommend Bitcoin Core's wallet to people because of the lack of BIP39 support. Most other wallets allow you to connect to your Bitcoin Core node anyways. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Mia Chloe on May 23, 2024, 01:51:35 PM Firstly Op don't store you coins on an exchange because although they are not decentralized they also have full control over your coins. Now since you are going to be hodling the coins, I guess you won't be visiting them often therefore for a safer option I recommend you store the coins on an offline wallet ( a cold storage) or an air gapped device. If you are going to be making use of an air gapped wallet you should make use of an open source wallet and the best I'll recommend for you is ELECTRUM.
Make sure you have a physical back up of your wallet seed phrase and if possible your master private key also. This will help you recover your wallet even if the air gapped device eventually crashes. Wish you positive results in your Bitcoin hodling journey. Don't forget to keep your keys safe 😁 Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: legendbtc on May 23, 2024, 01:58:42 PM Just from the title alone… I wanted to ask what possibly the best wallet to hold bitcoin in? I think the trust wallet would be discouraged as it is a closed source wallet and does not meet the OP's decentralization requirement and it really does not warrant us using it. Another thing is that I have never used the swap feature on the wallet, but I think their fees will not be low, while what the OP asked for is low transaction fees, being able to swap directly on the wallet. I don't think there will be a wallet that can meet all the OP's requirements, I don't think there will be too many options for him. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Charles-Tim on May 23, 2024, 02:04:47 PM Wasabi Wallet has the best privacy, it's available for desktop. The last time I use Wasabi, it is bitcoin wallet and coinjoining wallet but not having swapping feature. You are now a reputed wallet if the Wabisabi coinjoin has been removed. I can also recommend the wallet if password which is passphrase has been changed to passphrase. But the OP will need an exchange to be exchanging the coins. I recommend Electrum which is the wallet that I use the most. I also recommend Sparrow and Bluewallet. They are also all bitcoin-only wallet. Have you changed the password on Wasabi wallet to passphrase or word extension? I remember the last time I used it, it was password. But you clearly know that BIP39 passphrase is completely different from password. If you have not changed that, I will still not be recommending the wallet. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Kruw on May 23, 2024, 02:08:59 PM You are now a reputed wallet if the Wabisabi coinjoin has been removed. I also recommend Sparrow and Bluewallet. You have this completely backwards. Wasabi never removed the coinjoin feature, Sparrow was the wallet that removed the coinjoin feature. Bluewallet never supported coinjoins at all. Have you changed the password on Wasabi wallet to passphrase or word extension? I remember the last time I used it, it was password. But you clearly know that BIP39 passphrase is completely different from password. If you have not changed that, I will still not be recommending the wallet. Yes, it's changed. With all your explanations on what you needed, i will advise that you go for electrum wallet, i would have given you bitcoincore but am considering the demands expected from you to use that since you're not considering large amount of money involved, just make use of electrum wallet and have it installed on air gapped device, safely secure your private key, you can always make transactions from there to any wallet at an adjustable rate, and its such a wallet that supports for the feature of RBF, you can have both a mobile version or desktop version as you may want it. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Z-tight on May 23, 2024, 02:25:31 PM Just from the title alone… I wanted to ask what possibly the best wallet to hold bitcoin in? From the title alone and without going into what you need, the best way to store your BTC is in cold storage, that is either in a hardware or airgapped wallet. You should also ensure that you use a self custodial and open source wallet. I need a wallet that has low fees, preferably decentralized, and is secure. Now to what you want, you may need to store your coins in a centralized exchange since you want to swap your BTC to usdt regularly. Take note that if you are talking about fees, then you don't have to worry about the wallet you are using, as all they do is to estimate fees for you, and you have to check the mempool before making your tx. Store some of your funds in Electrum, and if you want to swap regularly, you have to keep some in a centralized exchange and bear the risks.Any recommendations? Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Zaguru12 on May 23, 2024, 02:36:50 PM Firstly Op don't store you coins on an exchange because although they are not decentralized they also have full control over your coins. If you are going to be making use of an air gapped wallet you should make use of an open source wallet and the best I'll recommend for you is ELECTRUM. Electrum is certainly a wallet that I will also recommend for any bitcoin storage but looking at the OP’s preference I think using electrum will be a thing of trouble for him because he still needs to store his usdt. What I think OP is trying to do is probably sell at high price keep the usdt and then buy back at low prices again. Overall it is bad strategy to me. But if that’s what OP wants then he Should go for unstoppable wallet he can save up the two coins there and they still have the swap service there. Make sure you have a physical back up of your wallet seed phrase and if possible your master private key also. This will help you recover your wallet even if the air gapped device eventually crashes. There is no need for a back of master private key, the seed phrase can be use to recover the wallet and even in the future if electrum fails to exit one can still use tools to recover back the master private key again. Backing it up now will just be a redundancy. More of the reason why seed phrase is the perfect choice for back up Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Frankolala on May 23, 2024, 02:41:26 PM It is better that you store some of your bitcoin in a hard wallet and that should be the bitcoin you will never swap. For the ones that you will swap, you shoukd store them in a seperate wallet which have the swap features. Unstoppable is a good wallet with such features, or you should store the coins that you will be swapping in an exchange so that whenever you want to swap it, it will be very easy especially if you intend spending the swapped bitcoin to USDT.
You should also know that it is not safe you store your coins in an exchange, so you should make your choice on the options above. We all will be responsible for our own actions. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Crypt0Gore on May 23, 2024, 02:51:17 PM Bitcoin core is a bad choice for many beginners, I said this because OP stated that he is not even holding a lot of Bitcoin, but he planned to hold for the future, I doing someone like him can afford to run Bitcoin core and download that massive data.
It costs me $30 to get 300MB in my country every damn month and Bitcoin core requests over 500MB right now, that will cost a lot, since this is even Bitcoin we are talking about there are many good Bitcoin wallets out there now compare to alt crypto wallets. I recommend Unstoppable wallet, everything OP asked for is present in this open source non-custodial Bitcoin wallet, Electrum is also a good choice but I can't recommend the Mobile version, it is too buggy, Unless OP has a laptop PC, but Unstoppable is available on mobile phones, the best ever for anyone looking for a Bitcoin wallet for mobile phones. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Z_MBFM on May 23, 2024, 02:52:21 PM Just from the title alone… I wanted to ask what possibly the best wallet to hold bitcoin in? If you say which is the highest best wallet then it will be the hardware wallet which will give you high security of your bitcoins. and if you want to use software wallet then you can use Electrum Wallet it is decentralized and till now it has maintained a lot of reputation. Bitcoin users trust it a lot because of its high security. here you can also deposit high amount of bitcoins without any hesitation. If you put in any other wallet there it can be more risky. In my opinion this is why I trust Electrum Wallet so much to keep Bitcoin safeBefore anyone says that it depends on what I need specifically then here is what I am here for. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Popkon6 on May 23, 2024, 02:56:10 PM If you want to accumulate bitcoins it is definitely best to hold bitcoins for a long time. For this you can use hardware wallet as a hard wallet, where your bitcoins will be most secure. But I don't think there is any need to exchange your USD, if you hold Bitcoin you should keep it in Bitcoin and you will get the best results. Very common are two types of software and hardware wallets, you can choose any type of wallet.
Here are pictures of some hardware wallets you can choose from, but their functionality is very good. https://www.talkimg.com/images/2024/05/23/L28nG.jpeg (https://x.com/TheBTCTherapist/status/1742729744452379080?t=5Ea1HJwUPZdwMBMkZW6x8g&s=19) Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: adultcrypto on May 23, 2024, 03:03:40 PM Just from the title alone… I wanted to ask what possibly the best wallet to hold bitcoin in? You can use Bitpay wallet, it has all you want to do including ability to swap between bitcoin and vice versa. The fee is great and suitable for what you want to achieve except when the memepool is congested which then becomes a general problem. Besides, it is self-custodian meaning you are in full custody of the seed phrase as it is not stored by Bitpay. I would have recommended hardware wallets but from your post, it is obvious you are not holding for long, just buy low sell high kind of stuff. So Bitpay wallet is ideal for all that and from the review so far, I have not seen any bad reputation attached to it. Before anyone says that it depends on what I need specifically then here is what I am here for. I can not decide which one really is the best based on the things I want. If you put in any other wallet there it can be more risky. In my opinion this is why I trust Electrum Wallet so much to keep Bitcoin safe Electrum is recommended because it is open source and users can verify their code for bugs and to make sure it is safe for use, and even if you don't have the knowledge to verify its code, it is a wallet that is widely used in the community, and so it is also very well reviewed by many BTC users. However, Electrum is an online wallet, and isn't recommended for a large amount of BTC, except you run it in an airgapped device that is completely disconnected from the internet. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: 0t3p0t on May 23, 2024, 04:12:10 PM You can use Coinomi or Mycelium I think you can swap USDT right on the app if I am not mistaken. For fees I think they are also customizable. Just don't use untrusted wallets or else your funds will be gone. I've been using those apps I've mention since 2017 and it's working well though I have never tried swapping USDT but with other coins yeah it's good.

How possible is that? I guess you made a mistake or wanted to write gb instead. And Bitcoin core requires over 500GB not MB. What op need is just a simple wallet like @ Charles tim had suggested earlier. Unstoppable would be fine for you op, since you clearly stated that you won't be storing large amount. Avoid wallets like trust even though they have the swap features, they are still unsafe and not reliable. I think I've also come across the swap feature in Mycelium also. All you have to do is select a new token under the etherum network then add usdt to your wallet. Then you can swap to usdt from Bitcoin on Mycelium from time to time. Mycelium is still safe and I've been using it for years now without any complications, just little issues with balance update. I personally use Electrum for myself to hold the coins. I don’t use it to swap to USDT, but yes it’s the best for holding Bitcoins. Just make sure your PC doesn’t get infected with any virus and you are good to go. Moreover if you really love your hard earned bitcoins then it’s better to avoid storing them in any online wallets or exchanges. Now I assume you are very smart enough to choose the ideal wallet for yourself from these plenty of suggestions.
Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Loki11 on May 23, 2024, 05:57:23 PM You've likely received numerous suggestions about which wallet is best for various purposes.
I use Ledger and Bitlox to hold my Bitcoins; that is the safest option. Given the many recommendations, I'm confident you can choose the ideal wallet. Also, you can find some suggestions or a list of all the best hardware wallets (https://cryptolinks.com/hardware-wallet) and all bitcoin wallets (https://cryptolinks.com/altcoin-wallet). Be careful with desktop wallets and malware. I know a few people who have lost their coins due to such things. Owner's official link: 56 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5416497.0) For fees it depends on the network itself while Wallets do not specify fees so they usually only provide DEX features. But I see no reason why they should be arguing on this thread, in as much as I don't know the one that is good to use I wouldn't want to choose side but I will suggest they stop the argument so that someone who ask won't get confused or discourage the more.

Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: bettercrypto on May 24, 2024, 08:19:46 AM If it's for Bitcoin and it's not such a large amount, I think Electrum is fine to use, but if it's a large amount of bitcoin, of course I suggest you use a hardware wallet.
If you are referring to top crypto assets to accumulate and hold long-term, Trustwallet, Klevr, and Coinomi can be there; these are just a few that, for me, are good and have given me a good experience. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: CODE200 on May 24, 2024, 08:44:45 AM Electrum wallet is probably the best of the bunch, no doubts that it's going to be the first one in the list. Some of the few features that makes it stand out is that it's open-source so you know that you're not going to be a victim of wallets that are locking out the finds of their users and another feature that although not unique for a crypto wallet, they do it best, it's the sleek but simple to understand design for their wallet, you don't have to navigate to different places to be searching for thousands of things, it's a wallet that stores your bitcoin and you can use it to send your bitcoin to other addresses, that's it.
Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Essential10 on May 24, 2024, 10:25:48 AM There are several good bitcoin wallets where you can keep your bitcoins safely. You can store your bitcoins in hardware wallet or electrum wallet, I find these wallets safe. Electrum Wallet is a popular wallet that also offers an extra layer of security. It allows users to securely store their private keys and transact without the risk of being hacked online. Using this type of wallet for Bitcoin is very secure and can be trusted by any user. However, just as it is important to choose a secure wallet for storing bitcoins, it is your personal responsibility to protect your lock keys.

What I see is that people are giving recommendations on Electrum as well as many other wallets and Electrum is a perfect choice for storing bitcoin but that's not what OP is looking for . He was looking for a wallet that could directly exchange between bitcoin and USDT , and Electrum did not offer that feature . I have never seen or used any wallet that features a direct exchange on the wallet, and is open source and non-custodial wallet . Is Bitpay an open source and non-custodial wallet? By the way, I saw the OP said that he is looking for a wallet for mobile version and does bitpay have a version for both iOS and Android operating systems currently? Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Suman1 on May 24, 2024, 04:42:48 PM We have a lot of options and everyone's choice is different but I prefer Bitget wallet, and trust wallet, however, Bitget wallet is one step ahead and enhances deposits in their own Dapp via the P2P method seems interesting to me.

Now there are many best wallets that are open source and certainly not owned by certain institutions such as exchanges, so for the time being choose BlueWallet and long term is hardware. Yes it is true that there are many fake Dapps now but if they make sure the URL is valid and always check then they will not get caught in phishing. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: kryptqnick on May 25, 2024, 04:02:44 AM I think Electrum is a great wallet. It's noncustodial, pretty easy to use, light and reliable, and completely free. But it's just for Bitcoin, no trading for USDT there. Others suggested that you can just trade when you need to, but store your BTC securely in the meantime. If you absolutely need swapping, there is Blockchain wallet. I've never had any issues with it personally, and they claim to be noncustodial, but op is likely to find a lot of distrust of it on the forum. Also, I think they now require KYC for swapping, which is a major factor to consider.

I would say, anything under a couple thousand dollars, I'd rather store it on some cheap blockchain (Polygon, Solana, etc) in the form of WBTC. Yes, it's not purely BTC on Bitcoin. I know. But your on-chain deposit/withdraw transactions would accrue a lot of unnecessary fees and eat up your profits. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: FinePoine0 on May 25, 2024, 10:28:42 AM In particular, no matter how strong the wallet is, if the key is not kept safe, the assets will not be safe. So as soon as we collect the wallet, the key must be carefully kept in a good safe place, maybe it is best to write it down in a diary page and keep it in a safe place. Because wallets can never be password protected in Google Drive. But keep your passwords as safe as you think safe. That's why you can choose either hardware wallet or software wallet.

Not all wallets support all cryptocurrencies. Since you posted this thread in the Bitcoin discussion board, I assume you want a wallet for your Bitcoin? In that case I recommend electrum.
If you want a crypto wallet that supports other cryptocurrencies then I recommend only open source and non-custodial wallets like cakewallet. You could use a closed source wallet like Trustwallet but that requires the element of you trusting trustwallet, ironically. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: ChiBitCTy on May 25, 2024, 10:54:42 PM I am shocked at the amount of false information and ignorance going around in this thread. Lets start for the worst place to hold your coins...exchanges. Then the second worse, hot wallets (mycelium, wasabi, coinomi etc). Then you've got hardware wallets which I highly suggest Trezor wallets. Some I know like BitBox, Cold Coin, and others ( I DO NOT recommend Ledger, they are garbage wallets). Then the ultimate form of cold storage is either air gapped PC wallets or paper wallets. These last two can be difficult to make and are not recommended for the masses.
Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Forsyth Jones on May 26, 2024, 03:47:41 PM Bitcoin core is a bad choice for many beginners, I said this because OP stated that he is not even holding a lot of Bitcoin, but he planned to hold for the future, I doing someone like him can afford to run Bitcoin core and download that massive data. I don't think so, the OP can choose to enable pruning. I use an internet of around 50MB and it's been able to download the blocks, I've been using this internet package for 3 years and it's been serving me well. Unstoppable wallet is a good wallet for both bitcoin and the altcoins it accepts, but I'm not a big fan of these mobile wallets, the most I can recommend is Bluewallet for mobile. If you can't use Bitcoin Core, use Electrum, you will always have community support as it's the most recognized desktop wallet. It should also be taken into account that Bitcoin Core validates its own transactions through downloaded blocks, without depending on any third-party node, while in Electrum and other wallets, you depend on third-party servers that may be spying on your balances by labeling activities (some servers may be running by companies like chainanalysis). At electrum, you even have the option to use your own full node to validate transactions, but it requires some skills to install servers like electrs (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5477339.0). You could download a phishing application or click on a link that has malware and lose your funds to scammers. Instead of trying to be too careful, store your funds in cold storage if it is worth so much, and use online wallets only for money you need for spending on the go.Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Z390 on May 27, 2024, 02:00:14 PM You can use Coinomi or Mycelium I think you can swap USDT right on the app if I am not mistaken. For fees, I think they are also customizable. Just don't use untrusted wallets or else your funds will be gone. I've been using those apps I've mentioned since 2017 and it's working well though I have never tried swapping USDT but with other coins yeah it's good. OP wants a Bitcoin wallet, not a multi-coin crypto wallet like Coinomi, this is a bad choice, also Coinomi is not an open-source crypto wallet, I have lost my digital asset using that wallet before and at first, I thought the fault was all mine until later I started seeing other people having the same problem. Crypto wallets Like Coinomi are a bad choice choice, if you really care about safety it is best to choose a open source non-custodial Crypto wallet, many people in this thread have already said the best ones, this doesn't count. TRZEOR, Electrum, Blue wallet, Unstoppable, and every open source Bitcoin wallets out there are excellent choice, some called themselves open-source to mislead people, verify from people who have used such wallets before. I verified that Electrum, Unstoppable, Trezor, Safepal, and Keystone are very reliable choices to store your Bitcoin. Electrum and Blue Wallet are wallets specifically for storing Bitcoin, not wallets that support more than one coin like other wallets mentioned in the discussion here. Even if it's not a large amount, it's better not to use one wallet to store coins. Bitcoins should not be combined with other coins in the same wallet such as multi-coin wallets. If you ever want to exchange it, you can send it to the exchange address from the main wallet. Fees, depending on conditions. Specifically for Bitcoin, it is not high if conditions are not constrained like now, high priority is only 12 sat/vB for transactions. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: kamvreto on May 28, 2024, 12:00:06 AM ~snip~Electrum is also very widely used by members on the forum, although some use other wallets to store Bitcoin because each member's choice depends relatively on which wallet they think is safer. Regarding security, it goes back to each user, only each individual can guarantee security depending on how much they care about the assets stored in the wallet. Yes you are right about the security, all security depends on each user. Although the security of the wallet is enhanced if the user is careless then there is no point in such security. The use of hardware wallets will also be useless if you store phrases carelessly and can be known to others. For USDT I can't recommend any, as I hardly use any other coin other than Bitcoin, but if you're going to use the ETH network, there's MEW... You also have to think about the risk factors involved such as management and security measures of how you can keep your seed phrases secured otherwise, I don't think it's advisable to have multiple wallet for your funds. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Popkon6 on November 04, 2024, 01:33:38 PM Electrom wallet is the most secure wallet to hold bitcoins, this wallet is full of security and offline creation of this wallet. And this security system is very good, if you use it, this wallet is one of the most popular software wallets. Many common Bitcoin holders and those who do not have the money to purchase a hardware wallet can definitely use the Electrum wallet with ease. Electrum is one of the best wallets that anyone can recommend and that is why it is very recommended, and that is for bitcoin an if anyone wants other crypto assets then I will definitely recommend a trusted wallet and there is always peace of mind that is given when you know that your assets are kept safe, and that is what matters a lot because if you don't consider the safety of your assets then you are only opening your self to threat because the exchanges can't be trusted so it is better to go for what will keep you safe, so that you dont lose your money. Of course Electrum wallet is the best wallet, because if Bitcoin can be stored for a long time then this wallet is definitely suitable. I have been using this wallet for a long time so far no scams as I keep the key safe. But any hardened wallet will survive for a long time if the key is kept in the safest place, but whenever you leave the key randomly, your wallet is more likely to be hacked instantly. yes anyone with a wallet has to learn to keep their phrase safe because if you don't know how to keep it safe, there are people who still find it very difficult to store their see phrases because the password does not even matter the most important is the seed phrase. because we need a lot of things before we can start considering how self's as bitcoiners, and you have to master the skill of keeping your seed phrase safe. Everyone is urged to keep it the safest, because no matter how big the wallet is, you should never leave the keys unattended. I have been storing bitcoins in my wallet so far I have been in the right place. And I've been depositing bitcoins every week with the DCA method, because I know I'm taking care of the wallet the most these days. Because if the key is lost it can never be recovered as my valuables are stored here. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Plaguedeath on November 04, 2024, 01:45:51 PM Exodus has the all time features you are requesting but remember it's a hot wallet otherwise I'd recommend you to electrum atleast regarding an utmost safety of your funds first before considering convenience user transaction interfaces. Both Exodus and Electrum are hot wallet, but Exodus is worse than Electrum due to it's closed source. 1. Zengo What a rubbish list, actually most people should avoid all of them.2. Coinbase 3. Uphold 4. Ledger 5. Trust Wallet Zengo, Coinbase and Trust Wallet are closed source wallet. Uphold is a centralized exchange. Ledger is a hardware wallet that share their private keys to third party. At least it saves you and you won't lose all your bitcoin in a single accident like hack. The key is always be careful with your practice online and offline. When it comes to storing a large amount of assets, diversifying storage locations is what we need to do because it will reduce risk, but it will also put more pressure on us and is not as perfect as we think. If you use 2 or 3 wallets to store your bitcoins, that means you will also have to protect 2 to 3 seed phrases/private keys. This is also something to consider because protecting seed phrases is not easy, especially when there are many seed phrases. In general, every method has its advantages and disadvantages, no method can guarantee no risk and absolute safety, so it all depends on our choice. Personally, I still prefer to use a single wallet to store bitcoins and I've been fine with that for many years. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Smartprofit on November 04, 2024, 04:24:44 PM Just from the title alone… I wanted to ask what possibly the best wallet to hold bitcoin in? Before anyone says that it depends on what I need specifically then here is what I am here for. I can not decide which one really is the best based on the things I want. First of all I plan on holding some bitcoin (not huge amount) for a foreseeable future. However I also plan on swapping it for usdt from time to time aka when the price is getting high. I need a wallet that has low fees when swapping , preferably decentralized and in mobile and is secure. Any recommendations? In my opinion, the best option is the Electrum mobile wallet. You can download it from the official Electrum website. This is an open-source project with a user-friendly interface that is very popular among Bitcoin users. You can even use a wallet based on two smartphones. The first smartphone will be autonomous (you will never connect it to the Internet). You will use it exclusively for signing transactions. The second smartphone will be used to view the transaction history and create transactions. Such a bundle of two smartphones with the Electrum application installed on them provides maximum security (in fact, it is a cold wallet). The crypto space is wide and creating more timing to know our main objectives in the market. Everyone have their best crypto wallet in the space because they meet their ends properly. I'm sticking to the non-custodial crypto wallets because they're more placed safer when it comes to crypto portfolios. I didn't hear much of the cases, I mean, if we are talking about the pain of it being close-sourced. Yeah, many people are using trust wallet, but it does not make it recommended, if you cannot verify the code of the wallet you use, then you cannot be sure of what is happening behind the scenes. So many Atomic wallet users lost their funds sometime ago, but up until today they do not know what really happened and the wallet hasn't given details about it.Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: PepeLapiu on November 05, 2024, 05:46:14 PM I strongly suggest you get a Bitcoin only wallet. I really like Electrum for both Android and Windows. I only hear good things about Sparrow. That was for hot wallets. For cold wallet, I like the ColdCard together with CryptoSteel, or any other stamped seed wallet system. But you don't have to overdo it. I think for most people, an old cellphone with Electrum installed on it, turned off when you are not using it, along with your seed phrase saved on paper. That should do the trick for most. You can likely find an old android phone with removable battery at any pawnshop or Amazon. Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Pmalek on November 09, 2024, 08:38:36 AM There is a list of many crypto wallets here on (Link removed). There are better sources than the one you mentioned or perhaps shilled. It's just a list. The Bitcoin Hole (https://thebitcoinhole.com/) compares the most important features of both software and hardware wallets in a much better format.Electrum Wallet is good which I am using it with error foe years now. The transaction fee is very small and it is not up to a dollar so it is affordable at all time of transaction. But when the mempool is congested then the fee will be high. But it is one of most secure wallet to store bitcoin. Bluewallet transaction fee is high than Electrum. So you choose your choice. It seems like you are allowing your wallet to tell you how much to pay in fees. That's not how it's supposed to work. Both of the wallets you mentioned allow you to enter transaction fees manually. You are supposed to check the current state of the network and then enter appropriate fees into the software.Electrum wallet is also an online wallet, so it may not be the best for long term storage of a large amount of BTC, for that either use a hardware wallet or run Electrum in an airgapped device. As you know, Electrum can also be coupled with popular hardware wallets so it stops being a hot wallet in that case. In my opinion, the best option is the Electrum mobile wallet. Why limit yourself exclusively for the mobile variant of Electrum when the desktop version is better and more feature-rich? Personally, I would always pick Blue Wallet on mobile over Electrum. An open source wallet that is well reviewed and self custodial is surely better than a closed source wallet, however your funds is only as safe as the device it is stored in, so for better security the wallet should be used in an airgapped device and the user must have good opsec.Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: suzanne5223 on February 03, 2025, 01:36:46 PM The first thing I noticed in a wallet was open source. If it is not open source, I hesitate to store crypto in the long run. It is good to use an open-source wallet for better safety options. However, a wallet has been an open-source wallet is not enough to guarantee the wallet as the best or good crypto wallet. Mind you, this is always a new development in the tech world every day and if the wallet new, or all source code are not totally check there is still a chance that the dev team have a backlog, or something that consumer their wallet user internet data for crypto mining (which is something that some dev do now)If the best wallet supports a lot of crypto, I think the unstoppable wallet that I will recommend. There is a discussion of discussion about Unstoppable Wallet to attend any discussion that helps increase knowledge about it. To be even safer, use a hardware wallet because no matter how good a software wallet is, it does not guarantee 100% of the assets will be safe because it is still possible to connect to the internet. Compared to the wallets mentioned, I think Unstoppable Wallet is better. Maybe because I am familiar with Unstoppable and may not have used Best Wallet. An open source wallet allows developers to get feedback from users to fix any shortcomings that occur. Using an open-source and fully verified hardware wallet is good, but the best safety measure wallet is still the air-gap wallet. I heard a lot of good things about the Unstoppable wallet but I never looked into it deeper. It is good to use an open-source wallet for better safety options. The striking example is the open source Linux utility (https://arstechnica.com/security/2024/03/backdoor-found-in-widely-used-linux-utility-breaks-encrypted-ssh-connections/)that had for many, many years backdoor which made vulnerable encrypted SSH connections. Interesting that it is believed that no body in the world was suffered from this backdoor because of "bad actor sloppiness" otherwise "it would have been catastrophic for Linux users me including. However, regarding wallets, I'm preferring open-source products. Me too, the problem that a lot of people have is that they lack the skills and knowledge to verify the open source codes of these wallet softwares themselves. However, this is the reason why i always recommend that people go for well reviewed open source softwares, i.e. Electrum, so that even if you don't have the knowledge to verify the code yourself, you know that a large part of the community constantly does it. I know it is safer to do it yourself, but this way is surely better than using closed source softwares.Title: Re: Best Crypto Wallet Post by: Pmalek on February 06, 2025, 09:10:16 AM Me too, the problem that a lot of people have is that they lack the skills and knowledge to verify the open source codes of these wallet softwares themselves. I seriously doubt there are that many people who verify the source code of software wallets like Electrum in detail. Their own developers do and a few hardcore coders who enjoy that sort of thing. Some bug bounty hunters and specialists probably search for vulnerabilities occasionally. And then there is the other side of the coin with black hat hackers trying to find vulnerabilities that they can exploit.Asides from them, the most that general users do is verify the signatures of the builds before they install them and trust that everything will be ok. I assume that the trusted open source wallet like Electrum are verified by the developers or those who have the sufficient knowledge about it. We, as an end user, don't have that much knowledge and we really don't need to do verifications about the source code. If there was anything shady, it would have been highlighted and the code is constantly checked even by the competitors of the electrum wallet to find any vulnerability and defame them. That is one reason the open source wallet is more trusted however we should keep in mind that evil minded people are always there, testing the wallet to find and exploit the bug in the open source code. |
