Title: Beware of fake work-from-home jobs, it is a ploy to steal your crypto
Post by: _act_ on June 06, 2024, 01:55:57 PM
The scammer will message you and offer you an online job. The scammer will be receiving the money from the job and he will not later pay you anything. Or it can be a fake job but the scammer will later ask you to pay an amount of money to get more and better offer. The victim account that the scammer created for the victim on the platform would be getting credited but it is not money but just a number to deceive the victim. If the person pay the money that the scammer told him to pay, that is just how he or she has been scammed.

The number of scams is increasing everyday and it is difficult for it to be prevented. Awareness and exposure of their tricks is what is needed.  As for me, any thing that requires me to pay for it first before getting my money out of it, is a red flag and I know that it is a scam. Whether it is crypto, e-commerce, or in any other business they are the same. Scammers always have a modus operandi and they are easy to spot unless their victims are blinded by greed.

I have also had a similar experience. The job offered is just to like or comment and to get paid you only need to send a screenshot.
out of curiosity, I followed the instructions and assignments, of course with caution. but they actually pay the money directly into the bank account.
it consists of several sessions, and as we progress we will be given tasks that pay more. some are even asked to make a deposit first. I didn't continue the task when it was indicated like that. but some still go ahead and send deposits to the website provided. A few hours later one of the people who continued working on the task sent me a message and said that he had been cheated and could not make a withdrawal from the money deposited along with the promised bonus.

such scammers are real. Whether dealing with fiat or crypto, criminals are always updating their ways to find victims. We really have to be careful, especially parents who don't have much experience in the online world.

The first instant in which the scammer will offer someone a job and be taking the money is possible but is not sustainable because anyone working and did not receive payment after a week or month will surely know its a scam and have the choice of stopping, this was you only waste your time and energy for the time you worked for free.

However, the second instant of requesting money from someone in the expectations of more profits or reward is easy to spot as a scam at first sight. This is because the widespread awareness of not sending money to anyone for anything not verified; people are very conscious of that so not many people will fall for such scam.

I have been approached, on several occasions, by scammers using different formats, some with job offers, business proposals, and even investment opportunities.  It is not usually difficult to see the sign of scam based on experience anyway. The moment I notice a sense of urgency, unrealistic promise, or incoherent idea, I know it's a scam.

Once, when I was looking for work-from-home jobs, I came across a post that was hiring people for remote positions with salaries in my country's currency, not cryptocurrency. After I filled out my CV and other required information, a woman called me. I wasn't sure if she was from the company in the job post, so I asked her who she was. She was so rude that I had to hang up. I later found out through Truecaller ID that it was a scammer, lol...

This life is not balanced, while some are looking for means of earning money you will still discover other ones positioned to take away the rewards of what you're working for and scam you, we have to be very careful these days on what we click at online, the websites and offers we receive, it is also very important that we know all these security measures in other to be able to avoid them whenever a related scam attempt comes in, we should verify the source of any information received online to be genuine, we should not be greedy as well because they also used that to target their preys found in this category with attractive offers.

How desperate the person is to look for a job will determine how long it will take him or her to discover that they are being scammed or played on, and the excuses that they give to them as to why they have not received their first pay will also contribute to how long the scam will last.

I have seen someone who thinks he has been working remotely and, as a freelancer, spent about 3 whole months accumulating a coin that can't be withdrawn and was hoping that one day he will reach the required level so they can allow him to withdraw, write a free article, and complete some tasks that he is being asked to do on a daily basis, until he was told that's all a scam.

This is another old technique that still exists around the market, I hope people will be aware of this mostly.

The scammer will mostly contact the victim via telegram to execute these kinds of traps which they find from random crypto groups that is why it is better not to receive messages from unknown contacts that can prevent 99% of such attacks even from reaching us.

Another method is a scammer might pay you first a couple of times, let's say $10 and $20 then he will ask for something called a security deposit that will give these amount which will be tempting for sure because he already paid so in a hurry we might forget this might be a trap that is also people should be aware of, avoid anything that is too good to be true.

today there are more and more scam cases that offer easy jobs to people with attractive rewards, and many people are interested in taking this job. people should avoid offers like this because there is no free candy these days. and if you get a message like this or someone around you, make sure the information is reliable and never trust or even send money to people we just met. because these scammers will take advantage of the weaknesses of people who are currently in need of work from home, and it is quite dangerous if we do not understand this and trust them.

Things for bring this to the forum, I think this is a new method scammers of this days are using to scam people. However this is very hard to be true though, no one will work and don't receive pay then send money for him or her to be paid or receive another task before he or she will be paid. It's a kind of thing that only a child or someone who is not thinking fast could fall for. The main purpose why one is looking for jobs is because they're looking for were to get money from and not were to put money, however we have a lot of people in different places that doesn't know scammers are real. I don't think this is a kind of scam I could fall for.

this is rampant everywhere and must of the peope that falls for it are desperate people that are looking for anything they can lay on to s a source of income. The recent and must popular one they've been using is to give you mini task to perform and they pay you for doing those task but the entry requirements is that you're to pay a certain amount. The higher the amount you at, the higher your weekly or monthly pay. You will be allowed to receive one or two payments so as to lure you entirely into the system and when you've become comfortable with them, they will most times as you to upgrade to ab higher amount which is suppose to triple your weekly paychecks. If you ever make the mistake of paying the money you've just lost and fallen for thier plans and they will never allow you withdraw your money again.

They are mostly ponzi scheme and should be avoided by all means. Generally, anything that involves you to make an initial non refundable amount before ever getting started is most times schemes that's created to extort money from you.

Most people falling for it? Did you have the statistics of people that fall for it versus people that did not fall for it? It would have been better to say people that are ignorant about it and greedy fall for it.

Like I always say "If you don't ignore the red flags you'll most likely not fall into a scam". The sole act of a person asking a potential employee to pay money before being given a job screams scam. What's the money being paid for exactly? If I am going to be working for you and help you make money directly or indirectly why do I need to pay you?

We don't need to be desperate and too anxious for money. This is what scammers thrive on. All the signs would be so visible but because we're desperate for money you'll fall for it and realise when it's too late. You saw the sign and you didn't go further, those who didn't, or did but ignored it learnt the hard way. No matter how sophisticated scammers get, it's always possible to spot them.

No information is entirely old fashion to me; no matter how popular something might appear to be, there are still people who are not hard about it, even if they have. They might not know how they operate, and this information for those who already have the idea can serve as a reminder to them that such scams still exist and everyone needs to be careful.

These days, the kind of scam I believe most people pay much attention to is the crypto scam, which everyone is trying so hard to avoid being a victim of, forgetting that there are a series of methods they can still get scammed aside from crypto, so this information could also draw such people to pay attention to them.

That's why we should always rely on intermediaries with good and well-known reputation. This forum offers the ability to track bounty managers, escrowers, etc. but outside of here you are at risk.

I know that sometimes it's hard: you may need the money and you'd rather accept the risk than miss the opportunity, like said before, and that's what scammers take advantage of.

It is really sad how the culture of scamming and profiting from the work of others is growing in the Internet and in crypto in particular. So much technological development and so little human development is the evil of our era.

With the rate of scam schemes online it makes me treat any form of interaction with a stranger online with an impression of a possible scammer until proven contrary. I don't know about others but that's how I live safely online.

But, by the way, why will I, a job seeker be paying money for a job I haven't received payment yet. If the job was all tht genuine, why not cut that amount of money from my salary after I have gotten the job and received my payment.

I have a relative that recently got a job after he was scammed by this similar pattern of scammers due to his eagerness to get a job as a fresh graduate. Paid money requested from him by an acclaimed job agent online who claimed to have job openings contracts with companies, after 24hrs of payment all means of contact was blocked that was when he realized it was a scam. Any job that's genuine, whosoever that's involve will always ask you give him a certain percentage from your first salary for his services after you have gotten the job. Anything outside that, run.

Wherever these scammers are getting our numbers and emails, it's always best to use phone numbers in public which is like a spare to you. If in your country you are allowed to own more than 2 numbers then always keep 1 for your private contact and only a few people and close friends and relatives know that number. While the other is for signing up and for whatever stuff that you're going to do. These scams are normal in messaging platforms like in Telegram, they'll chat you out of nowhere and will start a conversation. Don't get on it and as soon as they message you, ignore or block them so that there won't be any further discussions that shall lead to their sweet and deceitful words.

I have had experience of this nature but I didn't give in because I already feel very suspicious with any thing that has to do with online works as long as I'm not dealing with the person in real life, I'm always very conscious of what actions I would take that wouldn't end in regrets.

Even with alot of informations I have got from this forum I don't like to have any issues regarding people with no through identity, especially people who first send a DM requesting for my skill I just feel like the might be scam that is why I'm still not scammed.

If anyone is going to be dealing with any one online they should try to verify by asking people who already have experience on it and also try to delay some kind of deals to know if they're good or not in the times of delay scammers might show themselves by being impatient.
Thanks for the information as a lot of us here may not have been aware that such scam exist.

Human resource agencies are overwhelmed with people who seek for jobs but still, they won't make it very obvious even when they seek money to do the favor so anyone who is asking/saying you need to pay to get something is kind of a red flag. Even we should be very careful while applying for jobs in genuine websites cause they are also filled with different types of scammers so finding the ob in the hard way is the best way to eliminate all kinds of scam traps.

We're humans and it wouldn't be right to get scammed after gaining useful knowledge that have given us access to top projects and technology in the space. Put enough pressure when it comes to modern age technology and online cryptocurrency, everyone wants to be fed from the hardwork of other people, this is the filled void where scams comes in the picture. Still surprising that people still fall for this cheap scam, funny how people believe everything they see on the internet.

Most of these scammers usually get your information from sites you submitted them, example is the breach of coingecko that was announced. If we study that now the information they will get their will be users ID/email and they start sending phishing links to them. One advice has always been use a throwaway emails or phone for registration purposes like this and then have a personal one for official use. As for social media accounts like telegram all you need to do is to restrict new accounts from messaging you or better still you ignore the messages. Scams like this will not end you only need to get more security conscious everyday as new techniques are been introduced.

This is very ridiculous and we get to learn everyday in the crypto space. I haven’t heard of something like this before but something similar to it. This scam might not be a popular one but once the scammer begins to act otherwise or cunny, it is already a red flag that dealing with such person is under big risk and you should stay away from whatever he/she wishes to give no matter how enticing it is. Learning new things and getting the right exposure in the crypto space will really help a lot. And sharing of informative and caution news are important like this one to enlighten the community here in order to take full responsibility of maintaining their assets and not exposing it to the public.

In last few years we are having too much demand about the jobs with peoples love to work from home, but sadly this is not working positive for the all because usually we are having scams and fraud things around us which are creating problems for the many which are already having issues in life due to having not good jobs or living areas where things are not going as they needed with this all sadly we are also having not proper things which can help them.
We are having few peoples those are able to work without any problem and also having regular work and payments which are helping them in this difficult time I am also trying to have something which will give some support to them but sadly right now nothing happening.

I completely agree that crypto space is full of surprises and we must stay vigilant. This particular scam may be uncommon but its uniqueness does not make it less dangerous. As soon as someone exhibits suspicious behavior it is red flag to stay away no matter how appealing their offer may seem may be highly profitable. Sharing informative and cautionary news like this is crucial to empower community and to make awareness in community to take responsibility for their assets and keep them safe from potential threats. I used to do freelance jobs before and I had a few unpaid tasks from clients whom I never heard from again after submission of outputs. I later on demanded from my future clients to pay me in advance at least in the first week or with my first tasks. That became my condition and they didn't seem to mind it. That effectively kept scammers away. Scammers won't probably pay you for now in order to scam you in the future. They'd rather move on to the next victim.

As for employers who ask money from jobseekers, I can't seem to understand why the latter would fall victim to it. That's kind of an obvious scam to me.

Anyone looking for work on the Internet should expect such cases. We don’t see the people who hire us, and even if we do, we still can’t do anything in case of non-payment since sometimes we are in different countries. However, paying the employer in advance, no matter what reason can be invented, should already raise doubts.

I also had a similar experience when I was not paid, but after some time, I gained experience in communicating with people who are willing to pay or not pay. And, of course, you always need to have a large circle of trusted people who can confidently recommend you as an employee.

I get your point. But by insisting that your client pay upfront, you lower your chances of getting that online job unless they confirm that you're  legitimate freelancer. I have experienced this many times: when I ask for an upfront payment or even a 50% down payment, clients often find other freelancers who agree to be paid after the work is completed.

I even experienced this kind of scam in SMS, and even on social like Telegram and Discord they are offering a small amount for the small task you need to do, and they will pay you after multiple task they will now offer you something higher rewards that requires at least a deposit if that so better to escape and save your self and asset with just a small amount of money, as possible if you have an asset better to make a separate the use of those crypto funds into your personal computer like having virtual machine is the most ideal or using different device always make sure your main device is safe from different attacks.

Tell your people about this. They should avoid online scam like this one.
Well there is a reason why they say the first thing to always watch when surfing the internet for jobs opportunities is to actually avoid any too good to be true policies because those are the ones that would be get you into deep shit especially if you are the type that your greed can be easily aroused. There are so many cases of this type of scams and one of the most popular ones am well aware of is the trending job offers that some freelance sites that are filled with scammers present as legit opportunities. It's quite simple though, they offer you a job with big money and then still ask you to register with the company online which requires a certain amount of payment then after that still give you work and when done with it still ask you to pay for some other crazy things.

This is a different kind of scam from what OP is describing but yeah, it exists too, most often we can see them via SMS in the old days now probably reaching out to people in WhatsApp. ;D

Pay me $50, now the scammer will pay you $10 and to get your $50 now pay me $100 and this goes on and on until the victim realize oh shit I just got f*cked up...

It is not necessarily greed that blinds them, because in many cases they have little experience in the field of working on the Internet and do not possess all the skills, especially with regard to money management, whether to buy online some tools they need or to receive payments. In addition, many countries still do not allow their citizens to own international payment cards, which makes it easier for scammers to promise to provide available payment methods. In my country, for example, freelancers cannot apply for job offers from outside the country because they do not have any way to receive payments, and therefore they are quickly swayed by any of the offers that are presented to them. Crypto is supposed to help overcome all these obstacles, but unfortunately also, the culture of Crypto is not widespread enough, and reliable freelancing platforms do not support Crypto.

This has been happening for a long time now... I'm even surprised that it persist cause, why should anyone fall for such scams in 2024? C'mon bro!!! I'd be damned if anyone ever sent out his coins, just to have another coins back into his wallet... That's just him being too sloww!

I'm basically up for the new tech waves that isn't relinquishing just too soon... I mean, that could take anyone out no matter how knowledgeable you are. On the other hand, what happens is that they sometimes make costly and pay their savings for it.
The number of scams is increasing everyday and it is difficult for it to be prevented.
True. I could recall someone saying that the scam won't stop. All the cyber security can do is expose every new trick they have in stock.

Scammers study what loopholes suit the circumstances to carry out their mission. When economic conditions are difficult due to limited space for a job that increases every year, then the situation will be used as an opportunity. The victims will be targeted randomly.
No matter how strong the stance is against seduction, if it is related to the opportunity to get a job, it can be affected.

Fraud models such as those sourced from the link must be reminded often to family and close friends so that they do not fall into the way they act.
As far as I can remember, I have experienced an incident similar to this mode, but I didn't care when they asked for money with the lure of a job.

It's a pretty old scamming technique but it's still running actively in the market because scammers know most people these days are looking for ways to earn money online so that they can stay at home and earn money instead of going outside for some job only to get a small amount as their salary at the end of the month. Such people are usually vulnerable and they are easy targets for scammers, so scammers get them in their trap by first being friendly with them and persuading them with their stories and stuff.

The victims are told that they can earn a lot of money if they invest a specific amount, once they do that, they will show them that their amount is increasing every day in the fake app or website they have created, and at the end, to get more money from the victim, they ask to deposit more funds to withdraw the current funds in that fake website or app.

It is only a ploy to steal your crypto if your online employer asks you to send them coins before they hire you, or if they try to deceive you to invest in scam platforms, or send you malware that is designed to steal your crypto.

Other times you can come across employers who don't want to steal from you, but they'll deceive you to work for them and at the end of the day, they'll not pay you what you guys agreed in the beginning, thus it is essential to seek upfront payment for online jobs, especially when you are working with your employer for the first time.

If you can get as much as spare numbers just for these numbers by your government you do it. That's a way to protect yourselves as well but it's gonna be hectic that every time you register, you'll get to use a different number and that's wholly separated from your main account. But that's fine, it's your strategy so that you won't get to fuse with your actual purposes and just for spare purposes. It's also about how your trust and confidence to the website you're registering. Other than that, don't be too entertaining with random calls and emails.

I completely agree that any request from online employer to send cryptocurrency before hiring or investment in suspicious platforms is red flag for scams. Additionally be cautious of malware disguised as legitimate work materials. Unfortunately some employers may not intend to steal your crypto but still fail to deliver on promised payments. To protect yourself it is crucial to negotiate upfront payment or  secure payment method for online work especially with new employers. We don't risk our hard earned crypto prioritize transparency and secure payment practices.

Something similar to this has happened to me on telegram, but I was smart enough to know it was a scam because I was already aware of the trick. A lady from nowhere sent me a message on telegram asking me to invest my money in a platform where I would get my profit based on the amount of money I would invest. Since the telegram account was not saved as my contact and no admin of any telegram group will ever send you a message first, I knew the lady intended to scam me, so I immediately blocked her on the telegram to avoid any possible loss.

Jeez! This is very popular now especially a lot of people really hoping to get a work-from-home job. Here in our country, work-from-home jobs are already famous and a lot of people started to hunt this kind of jobs and I saw in some community groups in social media posting about asking about specific job if they are scam or just like what OP said, because maybe at first they find it fishy.

You are right, it's very necessary for people to know about something that seems confusing for people to understand because scammers are upgrading everyday which is making most people to mistake them to be the real one.

That is why we should have the knowledge or idea of what we are doing before going into it , even online work should be investigated thoroughly before involving ourselves to be part of it.

Its not surprising that scammers posts nonexisting jobs to life unsuspecting and uninformed individuals to stealing their funds or extorting from then in the recruitment process.

I have a little problem with your stating that they collect money on your behalf, I think the only way they can do that I'd when they l have your login credentials to the site and some how they manage to change the details of your payment potions, but sites now incorporate 2FA to alert account holders of new sign in, giving them the liberty of deciding who gets access.

Freelancers are warned to be very careful of hiring accounts that are not verified by the agency since the theft is high on unverified accounts.
