Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Charles-Tim on March 22, 2025, 02:43:19 PM Bitcoin investors are people that bought bitcoin and leave it for months (short term investors) or years (long term investors). They do not buy and sell bitcoin instantly.
Traders buy and sell bitcoin within short period of time like within few weeks or as short period not of time as a day, some hours or some minutes. Holders also can buy at low price, be patient and sell at a very high price during bull market. They even have the highest success rate. Everyone that is holding bitcoin since September 2024 are all still in profit right now and they can sell at high price. Unlike traders that will think to buy at low price and sell at high price but impatience makes them buy at prices that the coin will continue to fall. Traders have high fail rate. Most traders are losing. Which means they buy at high price and sell at low price.Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? When the traders unintentionally become investors, it means they're bad traders, they don't know when to take profit and when they have to cut loss. Traders make money via short term fluctuations, ignoring long term appreciation. The difference is quite distinctive, though many people act as a bit of both, blurring the border a bit. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Frankolala on March 22, 2025, 03:01:30 PM Traders are after quick profits from the market fluctuation, they can sell anytime they see little profits. Investors are those who hold their bitcoin for at least one circle and they are after long-term profits. Trading is very risky compared to investing because the market can go against you at anytime. A trader is not an investor but some traders don't know that they're traders. They call themselves investors.
Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: bitzizzix on March 22, 2025, 03:10:02 PM Trading and investment are two different concepts.
Trading is a term used by traders who aim to make a profit in a short time by buying and selling it again in the near future or short term such as minutes, hours, weeks or months with any profit and if you are lucky and have large capital then the profit you will get will also be large. However, being a trader tends to have a higher level of risk compared to investing, because trading is very dependent on and takes advantage of existing fluctuations and also to do it you must really have full time to observe the market in order to make purchases and sales at the right time. And investors are investments made for the long term that take years, dozens of years or even tens of years just to get very large profits by making periodic purchases or buying when the price is down and holding it for the long term and this is called an investor. And an investor will have a lower risk, which in my opinion is not risky at all because a new investor will take action to sell when they have made a very large profit without considering time and the market and if it is not as profitable as desired they will continue to hold it. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Hazink on March 22, 2025, 03:13:54 PM From your own definition and explanation it's already clear that if you buy and sell instantly, you belong to the traders group. Investing in something means you will allow it to mature before you take off your investment profit, and it doesn't take instantly; it's something that takes a little bit of time, either months or weeks, which is why we have long- and short-term investors. Those who buy and hold are investors, and traders sell instantly or almost instantly.

Traders can be call investors also, the difference that lies between a trader and someone investing to hold is only the duration of time involved, an investor will find a perfect entry position to buy the market at dip and hold till the market rises before selling, this may take a longer time as the market may be volatile as usual, while a trader is such that uses that same bitcoin with other currency pairs for trading against each other, this can also be on a short or long term trading depending on the kind of trade such person is doing, so investment is strictly on bitcoin while trading involves two currencies in pairs against each other, but at the end, we can say one is a trader and the other an investor, and it is still right to call a trader and investors, because he is using his bitcoin invested upon to trade other currencies. Before a trader starts his trading career he needs to invest money in the item he wants to trade and for this instance Bitcoin. Post by: Churchillvv on March 22, 2025, 03:44:43 PM Charles already made a clear difference but then let me add my 2 cents opinion: Traders are gamblers... in gambling you don't want for your risk to get mature you are even afraid it may go against your odds immediately same as trading you don't spend much time on its but hang around watching it sometimes not even up to a day (24hrs) while investors even take decades to reap or even take the profit.
Hence the clear difference is there a trader is no investor and investors can be a trader but a trader is not an investor. it's not Viz vice not vice versa. Tell us one trader that doesn't know that he is a trader. And tell us the dichotomy of the both trader and investor with different tools used you know. I know where you are going and you have not make it clear for everyone in the forum bro know that yes you are talking about trading. Please I will want you to reread Charles -Tim first comment again and again to understand what is investment all about. Which I will quote it it again for you. There is Short Term and long term investment and short term investment is not trading because they are using different tools and methods. Now in short term investment tools are: either self custodial wallets or custodial wallets and why the investor used self custodial wallets is because they are not sure what will happen in that short period of time and they Short period can be a 2 months to 1 year or more and I strongly believed that is where you are saying that he is trader who doesn't know that he is one. Now if he is trader what are the tools he used? In trading the trader used custodial wallet and not self custodial wallets or non custodial wallets, he used market candle sticks, he used TP/SL, they used charts, timing, lines, indicators support/resistance and this resistance is one of the major tool traders use, you can see it from the images.https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/03/22/lX5n1.jpeg You can see the time here. https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/03/22/lX7vm.jpeg https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/03/22/lX9gW.jpeg So in what sense or ways are you bringing investment to trading? Also provide the tools as well so we can clearly know the differences. And as I said investment is short term and long term and you are indirectly saying that those who are investing for short term are traders, how? In which tools are you using to to give this statement? Please can you see this as well. Are you saying he is wrong? If no, then who are those that don't know they are traders you are referring to? Bitcoin investors are people that bought bitcoin and leave it for months (short term investors) or years (long term investors). They do not buy and sell bitcoin instantly. Did you see those tools I mentioned in investment? Traders are not called investors because they are different businesses. But you are merging them together by your statement, " some traders don't know that they are traders", meaning they are investors but in form of traders. Because they are using short term investment.Traders buy and sell bitcoin within short period of time like within few weeks or as short period not of time as a day, some hours or some minutes. Although both have the same goal of making a profit through Bitcoin, only one of them is worthy of being called an investor because the other one is clearly visible through the actions he does himself every time, which is trading with Bitcoin so he is only worthy of being called a trader not an investor in Bitcoin although the person could be an investor in other assets, but in this case (for Bitcoin) he is only suitable to be called a trader. Meanwhile, those who like to buy Bitcoin and store it for the long term are indeed suitable to be called investors because these people are not so tempted by small profits through Bitcoin price movements in the market, even though in the end they will also sell Bitcoin to gain more profits at the moment of a much greater price increase in Bitcoin.Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? They can decide to hold for a long or short time depending on when the profitability comes and they sell off to take their profits. As an investor of Bitcoin, you can’t be liquidated, your value of Bitcoin will rise and fall depending on the market fluctuations. You can only leave the market manually when you’re no more interested. A trader analysis the market and wager some money into his trade in the direction he feels the market will go, they could be right or wrong, when they’re wrong, their capital begins to depreciate until they get stopped out or liquidated base on the price they set for it. And when their analysis go right, they’ll be earning profit until it reaches where they set their take profits. The trading market can be operated manually or automatically depending on how you set it. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? The most important difference between traders and investors is the length of time they hold their assets in a portfolio, usually traders tend to think about looking for profits in a short time, monitoring the market almost every day to look for buying opportunities with the aim of making profits in a short time, there are several types of traders (scalping, day trade, swing). In contrast to investors who look at the market only occasionally, usually only to see the price development of the coins they hold, investors are more active in fundamentals, more often monitor news and analyze its impact on the market, tend to look for opportunities only to buy in the long term, do not think about selling in a short time even though the coins they hold are accumulating profits, but they have their own targets and usually the target can be several times the current price. While investors on the other hand put themselves in a position that does not care about worries, because their targets have a long time and can determine sales according to more profitable market conditions. This is correct. In terms of the terminologies, a bitcoin trader is totally different from a bitcoin investor, a trader is an individual who sinks in his/her funds into a trade for the purpose of engaging in short term buying and selling of digital assets thereby capitalizing on the market trends and fluctuations. When the bitcoin value is on the downside you sink in some funds into the coin either through spots trading or perpetuals trading whereas a bitcoin investor is an individual who invests certain capitals into a coin with the sole purpose of living it to grow over a long period of time. An investor holds a coin for a long term either in lump sum or through the DCA approach, where he puts an initial fund, then commit more funds at intervals allowing him to watch the portfolio's growth with the little funds at his disposal and whether it is worth it. Aside from that, in lay man's understanding, trading should also be regarded as a form of investment too, but on a very short term. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Traders will often make their lives busy maximizing their time just to earn a few bucks every day. While investors make their lives easy and just wait for the perfect time to sell their coins. That is why people choose to become investors, especially if they don't have enough time to spend in the market and if they can dare to carry the high risk and pressure.Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? It depends if a person prefers short term or long term trading. I'm more of a long term trading guy and I prefer investing when it is done over a long period of time and the gains are compounded too. Short term trading have its place but inbmy experience, long term is more fitting for the "investment" term while trading is mostly concerned with shorter positions rather than swing ones. Post by: Saint-loup on March 22, 2025, 10:58:26 PM I tend to agree with you, I don't think trading could be called investing, but rather speculating actually I would say, traders don't wait for long term return on investments but on instant profits or very fast ones at least. They don't care of what their orders can imply for the asset when they buy it or sell it masively, if it collapses because of that finally, it's none of their business, they just look for another asset to trade, and they apply the same strategies.

I really want to know whom you guys refer to as investors, is it a person that buys and keeps buying through out the bear season with his intention to sell in bull market season OR you refer investors as the person that trade Bitcoin repeatedly for short time profit? Can both of them be seen investors and for what reason? I don't think both of your description are correct. Let me start out by saying that an investor does not only buy Bitcoin on bear season and sell on bull season, rather an investor buys Bitcoin regularly wether bear or bull season with the following strategies DCA,, but the Dip and lump sum and all this has no specific Time. An investor buy and store or stack Bitcoin for long time use, having the purpose of accumulating a certain amount of Bitcoin before a certain period of time. While traders don't think if long time investment but rather they are after the little profit they will get within a short period of Time. So both of them have different sight when it comes to profit. Eg. (Traders)= "short time profit" (investors)= "long time profit"Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: GbitG on March 22, 2025, 11:31:17 PM Simple is that....Traders are those people who used to make profit via in a short time period through the help of price fluctuations. While investors are those who HODL their Bitcoin for the long term to make a profit like it up to them how long they can hold it. Whether they can hold it for one bull cycle or a long time (5-10years). It depends on them, but to be honest, real investors are those who HODL their Bitcoin for the long term, a minimum of 5 to 10 years, because the more time you HODL, the more profit you will make. Now those who have hodl their for long time they will have more value gain in profit. Despite trading also organizing profit margins, but trading is more risky as compared to investment.
So both have profit margins, but in trading there is high profit along with high loss in short time while investment has zero risk with huge profit. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Wexnident on March 22, 2025, 11:52:16 PM ~ It's just the difference in terms of how long they hold it. Investors generally keep it for longer terms expecting a high price, so they don't really need to check the market almost every hour. Traders on the other hand, hold them for maybe as short as a few minutes to a few hours, constantly checking the market updates and looking if they can profit or not. It's an immediate profit vs a long-term profit comparison. Doesn't really matter when they buy imo and if you want to characterize it that way, in a sense that's what ALL people do, both investors and traders. They both want/try to buy low and sell high. I reckon traders CAN be an investor since they might be able to see an asset perform much more in the long run (and it being stagnant at that point anyway, so no point in selling) though. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Osinachinancy on March 23, 2025, 01:16:55 AM No, traders are not supposed to be call investors. Reason is
because it can be considered a solicitation or a form of unauthorized advice, which may violate regulatory rules and securities laws and also it can create a conflict of interest and potentially influence the investor's decisions, which may not be in their best interest.. It's just they start in a bear market and don't have too long vision for their investment and portfolio than a next bull market. Anyway there is nothing wrong with investment your money in Bitcoin and maintain it only within one market cycle. How about those who focus only on spot trading, both in a bear and bullish market? They are just in for short-term profit; they buy and sell almost in an instant with little price change and take whatever profit they can get and reopen another trading position. Are they also considered to be investors? Or as long as you put in your money and time in return for profit, you are automatically an investor? For those who have financial knowledge and are involved in the financial market, they will never call a trader an investor or vice versa. Because they know well that the approach and purpose in the market of these two groups are different but for those who are not involved in the financial market. They have a habit of calling everyone involved in the financial market an investor, they don't care what method you use to make a profit in the market. Like if your mom knows you are investing in bitcoin, she will automatically call you a bitcoin investor even though you can make money by trading. Right? So you are both right. I guess there is no exact time for how long someone can hold their asset and be called to be a temporary investor. However traders could be investors if they can not sell immediately some reason.
For example, if a trader buys Bitcoin but then the price drops and stays for a while at the current low price, he will think twice to sell it at the low price. He will hold his Bitcoin and wait for a while until the price increases. He could be a temporary investor because he held his Bitcoin for some time. Post by: Iranus on March 23, 2025, 04:20:36 AM Oxford Dictionary defines an investor as: Quote a person or organization that puts money into financial schemes, property, etc. with the expectation of achieving a profit. From the above definition, both Bitcoin traders and holders are investors. However, it is generally perceived in the Bitcoin space that those who keep Bitcoin for a long time are investors. These set of people don't need to always monitor Bitcoin prices daily. But traders have the intention of selling anytime the price favours them. They usually monitor the market almost everytime to check when they can buy or sell. But bitcoin is also a financial market, and even that represents only a small fraction of the world market. It needs to follow the pre-established rules and definitions of the financial market, trying to change the concept or distort existing definitions will not change the fact that bitcoin is just a financial market. As long as people put money into bitcoin and the purpose is to make profit whether short term or long term, they are still bitcoin investors. Instead of making things more complicated, why don't we simplify them when we all have the same goal, which is profit? Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? You have literally explained the difference between an investor and a trader in your thread, an investor buys and holds Bitcoin for a long time (for those that are using the long term strategy) most investors are not bothered about the market but only focused on their long term goals and make massive profit, on the other hand a trader buys and sells Bitcoin frequently within a shorter timeframe, unlike an investor that doesn't bother about the market, a trader is always monitoring the market price frequently and they make more transactions than an investor. I'd say that an investor is focused on long term gains while a trader is focused on short term gains or an investor is someone that buys things and hold and takes their time to decide when to sell it while a trader is someone that buys and sells things frequently. Traders are those who take advantage of market dynamics and purchase assets predicting the next direction of the market before selling off their assets for some profits. Traders virtually don't hold specific coins for long, they enter the market and exit within short periods of time There's an exception when a trader buys and holds a specific coin like Bitcoin differently while engaging with his trading practices with a different portfolio without tampering with his Bitcoin holding to service his trading activities. I feel that person is both a trader and an investor. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Unlike investors, they will hold for months or years waiting for the time to sell their coins. They just only focused on buying, holding, and selling. But traders just hold for a short time as they wait for a good opportunity to trade their coins. Investors are enthusiasts who buys and holds their bitcoin for an asset in a long or short term goals. They are potential not to hope on making profits in a short time. Traders are enthusiasts who buys bitcoins and sells back in a quick term sporadically. They are hoped to make profits in a quick time without undermining the risks of the volatile market. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: kryptqnick on March 23, 2025, 02:17:39 PM To me, investors are those who buy BTC, wait for some time (and depending on the amount of time, they are short-term, mid-term, or long-term investors), and then sell Bitcoin for profit or simply spend it directly on something. They can buy it all at once, in big bunches or in small regular amounts (DCA).
Traders are supposedly buying and selling so regularly that one can barely say they're actually holding Bitcoin or investing in it. They're profiting from buying and selling at the right moments, not from Bitcoin's long-term growth. I do not see them as investors in this sense, but perhaps it's also important how often they buy/sell. If it's multiple times per day, that's a trader to me. If it's once per week or longer, that's an investor. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Investors don't buy today and sell BTC immediately, because they know they are not going to earn what will satisfy them than to hodl 2 or 3 years before they can sell to achieve massive profits from the long hodling.
Trader are those people that focus on minutes, hours, daily and weekly profit because their objective is to trade the moment the price hit higher within an hour to earn profit, and they don't like to hodl BTC for long years. The difference is, a trader will always exit his position when it looks like bad times are coming. For instance, during the pandemic when stocks started crashing, long term traders would exit, which is why we had crashed so hard back then. A long term trader is very similar to an investor with the difference that an investor can allow himself to go under, while a trader will avoid it at all cost. Op both short term and long term buy and sell of bitcoin are investors but sometimes we like to distinguish them by calling long-term holders investors while short term holders as trader, they are actually investors irrespective of the time duration of buying, holding and selling. The fact that you have bought bitcoin already make you an enthusiast of bitcoin, which mean you have made some contribution to bitcoin, and you can be called a bitcoin investor as long as you're still holding the coin, but the moment you sell those coins, you've withdrawn yourself from the title investors, this is applicable to both short and long term investors. IMO, a trader is not an investor because they do not hold for long term. However sometimes the traders make profits and sometimes they don't because trading has a higher risk than investment. A new trader will find it very difficult to trade and make profits but a new Bitcoin investor can invest just the first day and understand how to keep on buying. Those that hold are actually investors, they buy Bitcoin and keep for 3 to 5 years and sell afterwards when they have made a large amount of money, some might say that those that trade are also investors but I don't think that's really accurate. You are absolutely correct that is the real truth about it, because the difference is quite clear just like as you mentioned that is it. Traders are just gamblers they do monitor the market every often to no whether they can cash out or not since is a short time period. Why investors always have target of long term investment regardless of the market price they would just keep on buying and holding for future purposes.Hence the clear difference is there a trader is no investor and investors can be a trader but a trader is not an investor. it's not Viz vice not vice versa. But we realize that it is very unlikely and quite risky so we accept to be long term investors, but if the market suddenly grows rapidly, bitcoin skyrockets and brings huge profits in a short time. I'd hold onto it, waiting for that moment way down the road when the price shoots up and then i'd cash out with a big smile. It's all about playing the long game, believing in the future of crypto and not sweating the daily ups and downs. Traders, though? They're a different breed. i see them jumping in and out of the market all the time, buying low and selling high, chasing those quick profits that add up fast if you've got the knack for it. For me, being an investor feels calmer, like I'm planting a seed and letting it grow over time. Traders, on the other hand, are always on their toes, riding the waves of those wild price swings. I guess in a way, we're both part of the same crypto world, putting our money where our beliefs are. But while I'm dreaming of that big payoff years from now, they're out there making moves every day. Honestly, i admire how they handle the stress, I'd probably lose sleep watching the charts that close! It does not matter whether he invests for short term or long term. investment is always investment Trading can be considered as an investment. But it is very risky. It is better to refrain from trading as there is a high probability of loss in this investment. Because no one can predict the future even for a minute with a guarantee. However, long-term future can be predicted by various analyses. So even though trading is an investment, it is very risky. But long term investment is always profitable Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Can both of them be seen investors and for what reason? It is actually quite easy to distinguish between investors and traders. Investors target long term profits storing and accumulating assets that are considered promising such as bitcoin for a period of 4/6 years then selling them when the assets provide profits according to plan. Their approach is also quite simple. Those who are called investors do not care too much about market fluctuations because their goals are long term, while traders focus on short-term profits.Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? They are categorize as investors. In trading there is short term and long term the same with investment. And as I said these professions as one of the commenters said, have different tools to use. Though there are times some of the tools are related like market analysis of rising and falling. Buy the dip and sell in the bull. In trading the bull is seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks or months. But in investment the bull is months and years that is one of the biggest different. And we should not call traders as investors because they are toe different people. investor. The miners and Node runners are also investing in Bitcoin by making the network useable and secure. The developers are massively invested in Bitcoin too! Everyone else like traders, service providers like exchanges, hardware wallets and mining hardware are all invested into Bitcoin in their own way! I agree, we shouldnt paint all traders with the same brush, there are traders as philipma1957 points out who only trade to convert to cash and may not HODL Bitcoin for any length of time, but thats not all traders. There are definitely some who trade with a percentage of their Bitcoin HODL'ing and have possibly been doing so for many years. There is also a case that Miners and those running nodes are also trading while HODL'ing too, there may actually be developers trading too - thats certainly a possibility. Anyone who has at least an understanding of the Bitcoin basics and who believes in the future and is actively adding to the network is invested in the Bitcoin network and is looking at it for the long term. But those that does scalp and swing trading, they're the real traders in the market. It's up to how you view both of them, they can both classified as traders since the long term investors are going to sell and they are required to trade so, therefore they're also traders. It's not actually a big matter to discuss because as long as you're in profit and if you think yourself as an investor or a trader, you're free to call yourself however you are.Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Dailyscript on March 24, 2025, 02:33:38 PM Literally traders are trader while investor are traders. A trader know exactly what he is doing, typically timing the market for when to sell and when to buy an asset. While an investor is buying to hold an asset hoping to take profit after some years of investment most investors also do the mistake of taking out every small gain and investing back again from time to time. You may call such investor to be trading since he is not obeying the rules of investment.

Both of them purchase Bitcoin but vary with the term approach. Investors are personified with a single aim, (Buy & Hold) meanwhile traders are opportunistic with the way they access the market, they depend on analysis to get their profits, whatever they generate as profits are not coming from ATH but movements happening in the market. Traders and investors are different. Although some may be arguing that investors are also doing trading activity to invest, but it's different in term of target, time line, method etc. The multitude of traders we have are short term traders, day-in traders, or weekly, only does with large bankrolls are doing the long term trading which can take months to enter the position made on the market, this sort of trading can not be classified as investing, trading is mostly based on market fluctuations within a designated time analysis. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Sticky Bomb on March 24, 2025, 05:50:48 PM It is still an investment practice and they are still investors. Or as long as you put in your money and time in return for profit, you are automatically an investor?Spot trading carries minimal risks, since you can only loose the percentage at which the value of the asset traded against gains over your purchase price in which ever direction you anticipated. There is a risk of course to purchase assets that dumps within a short while, then heavy losses are incurred, so this spot trader cannot be called an investor Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: kawetsriyanto on March 24, 2025, 07:02:30 PM Bitcoin investors are people that bought bitcoin and leave it for months (short term investors) or years (long term investors). They do not buy and sell bitcoin instantly. Yep. Investors won't set a short time target, they will set a target for taking profits in few months or even years. Investors usually plan for holding few years, 3-4 years at least. In this way, they can get significant profits. That's what I'm doing as well, holding for few months won't bring a very significant profits.Traders buy and sell bitcoin within short period of time like within few weeks or as short period not of time as a day, some hours or some minutes. Traders will take profits in a short time. Even there are traders who set a target for profits daily. There are day trader, they get some profits just in a day. However, they won't get a very significant profits because the price won't fluctuate very much in a day. Commonly, traders choose altcoins with high volatility, this can bring bigger profits due to a significant price move in a day.Traders and investors are not the same, those Who buy and hold are not Traders they are investors, the Traders used to move their money and follow the markets, if the price is up they sell and wait the price goes down to buy again, while holders just keep their coins for a long term. Very true. Investors and traders are different. They have different targets, they have different ways in selling-buying coins. Investors set a long time target, meanwhile traders set a short time target. Investors will prefer to buy during the bearish season, traders will buy at any season. Sure, traders will be more often monitoring the price move, but investors won't really care for the price move daily/weekly.Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: HONDACD125 on March 24, 2025, 07:16:04 PM All investors are long term traders. So yes an investor is a trader but with a long term vision You are going with the technical meanings and terms used because technically, even an investor trades when they are either buying or selling assets of their choice, but logically, an investor is different than a trader because when we say someone is an investor, we mean they intend to buy and hold an asset as an investment so that they can get capital gains when its price grows over time, whereas a trader is someone who frequently buys and sells assets to get profits on a short-term basis. You can even think of it from other businesses' perspectives. Imagine, if we are talking about a company of watches. Someone who buys and sells watches every day or week and is always in the process of doing that is called a trader. However, if someone buys specific watches, and keeps them with himself so that he can sell them when their price goes up, he is investing in watches and isn't trading them in the logical sense. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Mrbluntzy on March 24, 2025, 07:20:39 PM Traders are after quick profits from the market fluctuation, they can sell anytime they see little profits. Investors are those who hold their bitcoin for at least one circle and they are after long-term profits. Trading is very risky compared to investing because the market can go against you at anytime. A trader is not an investor but some traders don't know that they're traders. They call themselves investors. But yet they are still using their money to buy and sell for the expectation of short time profit, is that not meant to qualify them as investors too because investment means when someone put in a certain amount into an asset for the expectation of ROI and what this traders are doing is also putting their money into short term investment process of Bitcoin. Investment means one thing but when it concerns Bitcoin investment people think different about it, they say that only holders are the investors but investors risk their money to get ROI, that's why I think it should just be one thing. Some one said that even miners are investors and I think it's true. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: RockBell on March 24, 2025, 08:21:23 PM The word investment simply means to put your money into something that would generate a larger amount for you in the future. Those that hold are actually investors, they buy Bitcoin and keep for 3 to 5 years and sell afterwards when they have made a large amount of money, some might say that those that trade are also investors but I don't think that's really accurate. People who are into trading mostly trade to make profit instantly, the real investors don't find short term profits, An investment is made for the future not the present. It is something you simply put your money and expect returns and the returns are just something that you expect you can not get what you always want and this is why the interest you come with matters a lot and this is what will show your progress because you have to be prepared before you can be an investor. And those that hold Bitcoin are even does that I even feel are the actual investors to because they are taking there time to actually wait for everything to actually yield because it is just as if you are planting and you are waiting for the crop to actually produce but this one takes longer. This is more reasons why I prefer older than traders because trading comes with a lot of risk that people will not see able to control starting from there emotions. But are investing since you will get something in return. So they are all investment. It just depends if you are getting something in return or not. I have never seen stock investors, real estate investors or traditional investors in general arguing and dividing each other just because of the concept of what an investor is and what a holder is. They don't make things more complicated because it doesn't help. On the contrary, bitcoin investors are making things complicated and trying to divide the community by introducing their own new concepts, changing the long-standing concepts in the financial market. I remember not long ago: there was a thread discussing who are real Hodlers and they only recognize someone as an Hodler if that person uses a non-custodial wallet and holds bitcoin for years. On the contrary, those who use custodial wallets, exchanges...are not Holders. LOL. I really worry when some people try to divide the bitcoin community that way. Traders have short term target and they are making money based on prediction or market price actions, that why we have daily, weekly and monthly traders.
Some people will like to argue on who the real holders are, but I don't care, some people can hold for Max of a year while others can hold for longer, it doesn't matter as we all have different plans, but as per the question that OP asked I believe that Traders can't be called investors until they invest money on Bitcoin or other crypto assets and stored them offline for long term holding. Many successful traders have managed to be big holders today because they are using the money they made from trading to buy and hold Bitcoin, knowing how to trade can be hard but if you get away with it your life will be easier. Investors are lawyers know known for longterm. Exactly, It is fairly easy to realize that traders are short-term processes, whereas investors are long-term processes. This is two separate things, you should not combine them. Anything that you want to do and can work for you and make money is great. And individuals lose money in short-term trading since it is not like long-term investing, where you may keep the coin for a long period and make a large profit. It is simply a matter of which one you prefer and are willing to risk your money on. Because everyone is at danger, but trading carries a bigger risk than investing. However, you can only be profitable if you understand the industry and have the necessary experience. If you prefer trading that can provide you with short-term profits, you must be prepared to lose money at any time because the market can be forecast to fail or operate well. However, when investing, you must hold your coins for a lengthy period of time, such as bitcoin, and you will undoubtedly earn if you are patient enough to leave it for a couple of years. So he just for you to choose the one you like. Op Since you have understood what is trader and investors so you just need to choose wisely and see with one can minimise your risk. And you can do the bought if you are capable and have enough funds to risk in the market. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Lol. didn't expect that it's now complicated to be called an investor. As long as you've invested, long-term or short-term, you're an investor, the idea of an investments is to secure something valuable in the future, to have a good profit from it and both long-term and short-term gives you that. Long-term are those who believed into the idea, they're the reason why it keeps going and the reason why it has a good foundation until now because they hodl for long term and aiming for a good value. Short term investors are those who take advantage of market's behavior and let me tell you this, some of the short-term investors are also long-term investors, they have stocks of blue chips that aren't used for short trading. Trading is the buying and selling of goods, services commodities etc. While investing is the act of putting (money) into financial schemes, shares, property, or a commercial venture with the expectation of achieving a profit. As their definitions imply we can see that investing and trading are totally two different things. Short term investors are birthed from those that have low risk tolerance generally or in a particular asset! While trading is typically buying and selling of a commodity to make profits! That's why it involves more analysis and time to master than actual investing. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Muba20 on March 27, 2025, 05:40:57 AM Traders and investors certainly have different perspectives. A trader can profit considering from the volatility in the market. Generally, traders aim to make a profit from their investments in a short period of time. Someone can profit by keeping their assets there for a few days or weeks and selling them for a small profit. They cannot be called investors. Investors are not ordinary traders, they make long-term plans by holding an asset. Those who hold an asset for a long time with the idea that the price of an asset will increase in the future are called investors.

You are right because I think investing is just where you leverage your funds to yield profits which of course pegs buyers that holds in a period of time maybe or not long time goal and the one who makes immediate buying and selling orders at any given time which is regarded as the traders. So as much their money has been leveraged there on the potential profitable bitcoin market, it is assumed they both invested their money for profitable goal. Yes it was those who buy and hold are mainly the investors, however I have heard already that there are traders who can wait too for a while before trading in order for them to not experience a loss or a big loss and then they can also earn a profit by doing this simple trick. That being said, they can be investor too but maybe short-term investor is the precise term for them.
I also like to say this that in general, when a person buy or avail something like a service, etc... and as long as they are pretty useful, that can also be said as an investment, so they can be called as an investor too. The moment someone buys a fraction of Bitcoin, automatically, that person have become a Bitcoin investor so wether you're a daily trader trading Bitcoin or a long-term Bitcoin Holder, you are a Bitcoin investor I disagree with that because it's not only about buying but it's about the intention behind that purchase. If you are buying Bitcoin today and selling it tomorrow to get a small percentage of profit from it, you are not an investor, but you are a trader; but if you buy Bitcoin today and intend to hold it for some time until its price goes up to a certain point and then you sell, then you are an investor because investors usually aim for long-term profits and gains and don't focus on short-term.A trader would buy and sell assets within short-term for small amounts of profit and they wouldn't hold them for long because they aren't buying with the intention of holding and that can't be considered investing. If traders would be called investors as well, we wouldn't need a different word for it. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? But investors take several months to years holding their coins before they sell them. To the question of whether a trader can be an investor? It will happen if they are not an active trader. It was just the time difference that made someone an investor or a trader. But to generalize the situation. Those who hold long (not just days) are considered investors. I could be wrong to others, but this is my opinion.

A trader is a trader, and an investor is an investor. The difference is pop and plain, investors buy Bitcoin and HODL for a long period of time and sell for profit . it could be bought in bear season and sold in the bulling, and it could also be bought in-between bull and Bear season and sold at any given time provided it's a long time investment. Which trader in order hands buy and sell Bitcoin to make profit but the traders mindset is to buy instantly and sell instantly without considering the amount of profit made. Both buy and sell for profit but the time frame is what makes the both to be different.

A trader's mindset focuses on the short term profit. They carefully analyze the market sentiment and predict it's movement in a short amount of time. Most of them studies technical analysis to read the market to become a profitable trader. While an investor is aiming for long-term profit. Their goal is to accumulate and hold it for many years. You don't need some chart-reading skills here. Knowing DCA strategy is already enough to be a wise investor. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Traders feels investing in Bitcoin is more risky than trading, for some persons that have been involved in trading before starting investment knows that investing is more safer and less in terms of risk. Trading is more risky than investing, and investor are not traders, investors builds up their investment that turns into wealth after a long period of time, traders sell off their wealth immediately. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: GigaBit on May 07, 2025, 12:05:50 PM In my opinion, a trader and holder both can be investor. Even though there is a classification according to the time interval, in reality both will be investors. If a trader invests and does not sell it quickly, especially when he has to go beyond 1 or 2 weeks or a month, can we not call him an investor? I think it would not be wrong to call him an investor in this perspective. On the other invests with the intention of holding it for a short period of time, he can withdraw that investment quickly, so if we consider that aspect, it would not be wrong to consider him only as a trader. Traders are able to withdraw their money from the market quickly. But investors try to keep their investments for a long time and become profitable from that investment.
Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Cossyblack on May 07, 2025, 01:46:01 PM Traders in Bitcoin cannot be called investors. I think they is a separate definition for both of them as they do not mean the same thing. In my own opinion, an Investor in Bitcoin is a long term holder that consistently buy and accumulate Bitcoin,he keep stashing enough into his investments portfolio until he reaches his over accumulation status, while Hodling for a long term for at least, a period of 4-10 years. However, a trader in bitcoin only buys Bitcoin to resell it in a short intervals for profits. They both share something in common and that's is the goal to generate profits. I think traders method of making profits is risky and doesn't guarantee safety of funds when trading as the trader might like lose everything in a spot if things goes wrong.

The investors will hold their Bitcoin for a long term. Some of them become investors because they are force holding their Bitcoin. Let's say for you to be classified as an investor, you have to be like those who sees the potential in a project and decide to put in some of your money in it, having this believe that in years to come that such project will be massive, therefore giving you a bigger reward ratio. While traders are just retailers or scavengers who are not interested in the long term potential of the project, they believe that the project can collapse at any moment, so they always want their money with them before the end of the day or week. While traders tend to buy an asset to hold it for a short time, the goal is also different, traders just want to find a relatively fast profit, but this has a higher risk than investors. Strategies are also different, traders are more directed towards technical analysis, because this is useful for trading in the short term. While investors are more fundametal analysis, looking at the development of the assets purchased, as well as current market conditions, which will continue to change every time. The difference is in the financial goals and targets. An investor aims to get long-term benefits, and they know that it won't affect them if their money is stuck for years, because the money they use is basically for that purpose. A trader's goal is to get profits every day or every week because they earn and use those profits mostly because a day trader generally uses trading as a source of income, mostly. I really want to know whom you guys refer to as investors, is it a person that buys and keeps buying through out the bear season with his intention to sell in bull market season OR you refer investors as the person that trade Bitcoin repeatedly for short time profit? Can both of them be seen investors and for what reason? Investors and a trader have the same interest and that's nothing but profit. Investors can buy Bitcoin for long term and can also buy with the purpose of holding for short term. Similarly, traders can open a position for long term depending on where they are looking to take profit and also hold for short term most especially day traders that don't waste time in holding an asset, I think it's OK to say all traders are investors because they push money to growth of project. Most often, it's the traders that make coins to go up, that's when you see volume spoke up, that's when you see the price go up continuesly until there's nothing bullish about the coin again and that's when some investors take their profit from the market, that's when some traders even become trap. There are some people that open position with the purpose of selling quick but along the line get hook up on their trade and are force to become a holder until they make back there money. Post by: Cryptmuster on May 09, 2025, 08:33:02 AM So, are you trying to say that investors are not also focused on making profits from the market as traders do? The only difference between a trader and an investor is that one takes advantage of short-term market volatility while the other is more interested in long term market volatility, but the truth is that both have same objectives which is to make profits from the market be it in the long run or short run. Trading is a job, and investing is a lifestyle. A trader has to analyze charts almost every day, monitor the market, follow the news and much, much more. Open and close trades, suffer losses, make a profit, a lot of work, a trader is very active. For investors, everything is much simpler, take the example of an investor who buys bitcoin, he can buy bitcoin only for a certain period, once a month, or even buy it once and that's it, he just waits for his goal, the exit point. He can wait a year, two, three, the entire bearish cycle, and all this time he does not need to analyze charts, open trades and do everything that a trader does, so the differences between them are huge. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: fuguebtc on May 11, 2025, 04:54:56 AM Basically, investors and traders have several differences, one of which is the purpose of buying an asset, investors tend to buy to be able to hold it in the long term, the take profit target is also certainly greater. Yes, they have many differences but at the end of the day, they all have the same goal and whether it is short term or long term, they all aim for profit. Meanwhile, investment means using money to invest in fields, assets...to create and earn profits. So I tend to agree that traders can also be called investors although there will be differences in strategies, plans, goals if analyzed further. As an investor or trader, it really doesn't matter and there is no need to argue about it. Because the main goal of investing is profit and we put money into the market to make more money, not just to become or need people to recognize us as investors or traders. Title: Re: Are Traders supposed to be called investor too? Post by: Yoona_As on May 21, 2025, 12:13:25 PM In my opinion, there is a big difference between traders and investors. They are two different types. Traders are those who follow their market and sell when they make a limited profit. Investors are those who invest and are patient and long-term, hoping for high profits that will do them good later. They make their investments for the long term.

The main thing is how and why they do things - we all invest to get results, no matter the time frames we look at. Thing is, investors use fundamentals, whereas traders - analysis and more facts to throw in to understand when to go in and out. |
