Title: Countries that gamble the most
Post by: kotajikikox on May 20, 2025, 01:42:26 PM
I got curious what region of the world is the most popular for gambling and I came across a ranking of countries based on their total gambling gross loss. The Top 5 are as follows: 1) United States, 2) China, 3) Japan, 4) Italy, and 5) Australia. As I expected US is the first when it comes to gambling. Around 26% of US adults placed bets on the Superbowl in 2024, totaling around 23.1 billion dollars in wagers. This amount rose by approximately $7 billion compared to the previous year. Their total loss annually comes up to $116.9 billion. I am not surprised as well that China and Japan followed but what surprised me is Italy and Australia. Traditional gambling activities like Baccarat and Fibonacci also originate from Italy. Venice and Milan are two of the country’s largest gambling hubs, featuring over 15 casinos. But Italy did not strike me as a country where people specifically visit to gamble in.

So we have a country for almost each region: north america, asia and australia. Did any of the countries in the list surprise you? Is there a particular country you want to visit purposefully just to gamble? Whole list can be seen here (https://www.worldatlas.com/society/countries-that-gamble-the-most.html).

United States are known for gambling, the highest amount of losses comes from the US and it keeps on increasing on a daily basis. Everyone knows that Las Vegas is the center of every gambling activity. This country has more addicts, and I will it's this way because of how easy it is to get money there. Even though people struggle it's not like a third world country that I live where getting a job is a problem.

I was also shocked that Australia is part of the top 5 after hearing the news recently about banning the gambling advertisements. I guess they are just doing it so that no online gambling companies will make profits out of their hometown gamblers. I mean, the money will just circulate in their country, which I think is a good thing.

I actually thought India and other populated countries would be in the top spot, but maybe because the percentage of poor people is higher than the rich, it's the reason they are not among the top countries that gamble the most.

Japan surprised me on this list since I thought Gambling is completely ban on this country while only pachinko is the only gambling allowed.

It’s under the criminal code chapter 23 so I’m not sure why Japan is on the top spot with limited gambling games allowed for them to play.

Is am surprised that Nigeria is not among but I know Nigerians are really gambling. I changed it from gambling to online gambling and I saw Nigeria to be among. You can check it here:

I think the betting shops are still going to be regarded as part of it.

I'm surprised that Italy is in the top 5 and not the UK, although as far as I can see the UK is in the top 6, and not by much. I didn't know Italians were so keen on betting. I see Spain at number 10, which is in line with my experience of the UK, Spain bets but nowhere near as much as the UK.

Good compilation of countries with the highest numbers of gamblers. I am not surprised to see US leading the group though, they have the highest and largest casino in major cities. Even tourist travel to come have a fun time in their casinos. Nevertheless I was surprised no African country was mentioned there. I may not know in other African countries but you see in Nigeria we have lots of gamblers. No joke, the numbers are increasing every single day both in online casinos and in local betting shop.

Didn't see what date this data was created?

But I was surprised to see Japan, Italy and Australia in the top 5 in the order of the most gambling according to the data, but the data shows realistic numbers, it's just that with these 3 countries it is rarely heard where many of its citizens gamble ... while for America it is no stranger to such a large total bet.

Maybe there are other countries that are bigger in total bets, but we don't know for sure about the survey.

Hong Kong is also not included in the list even though it is a large casino center.

Italy is a big surprise compared to other names and when I googled I got different results which included Canada and Netherlands probably that's based on the average spending per citizen not based on total wagered size. Australia is unknown to me so I have no idea how people got their gambling practice while China got traditional way of gambling and their population numbers can make it to the top of the list if it's total wagered.

Likewise me I was was even expecting Nigeria to be among the top three but not seeing them here means that we are still learning or the small gambling shops are not included as you clearly mentioned. I don't know how authentic the list is but seeing Australia in the list again makes me wonder, I never knew that the country also gamble that much.

Countries that gamble the most
Maybe I'm not surprised if I see the United States, and China is among the top five in gambling, that is a natural thing, but I don't see Britain ratings on the web I think Britain is ranked 2 after America and the third Australia, but it doesn't matter the fourth rank.

What I want to say is that Britain has a pretty good regulation in online gambling activities at this time in my view, Australia is also not less ranking in the amount The most casinos in the world and their activities in gambling, unfortunately Germany, France, Canada is not included in the top five.

I also saw from the results of the Droneemprit survey. About the most online gambling players, of course this is not ranked but most in Asia.
Quote
Indonesia: 201,122 players
Cambodia: 26,279 players
Philippines: 4,207 players
Myanmar: 650 players
Russia: 448 players

It’s only Australia that shocked me. I didn’t expect that. I didn’t know they also have a high number of gamblers. The USA being number one is not surprising at all, and I think a lot of us already expected that. As for countries I’d want to visit just to try gambling, no, I don’t want to visit any physical casino, even here in our country. I’m already playing online, so I know what will happen if I get hooked in a physical casino, and I don’t want that to happen.

I will collapse if United states of america is not on your list, I mean they have a whole city for gambling activities only, a place dedicated for crazy gambling  adventure, that's Las Vegas.

China also has something similar in Macau, which gains the world capital of gambling for that matter, lol what a crazy world we live in, and here I am thinking people are more scary of gambling today compare to past yests.

People are still seeing Macau and Las Vegas as dream land where their chances of coming back home as a winner is  possible, I wasn't expecting Australia to be part of the list, that's shocking, anyways thanks for bringing this up, I've never for once think of searching similar activities online.

What you think as the local betting shops will likely still be seen as online, unlike landbased casinos. I mean if you are referring to the betting agents that people go to place bets. This is different from gambling directly with the casino offline. Also those countries are very rich but if you check the my posts above, if it is online gambling, we should be there.

Is am surprised that Nigeria is not among but I know Nigerians are really gambling. I changed it from gambling to online gambling and I saw Nigeria to be among. You can check it here:

I'm surprised to see Japan in the list, that country has strict rules that they abide by and from how disciplined they are assumed gambling would be considered illegal there... it's not surprise that america is ranked as the country that gambles the most...the highest gamblers in the world are from the United States of America... statistically we have more addicts in America more than any other country

I'm a bit surprised to see Australia on the top list, I wasn't expecting that though, I thought Nigeria would be among due to the wide spread of gambling activities in the Country. Well that ranking is based on the annual loss on the entire gambling activity but my country is mostly known for sport betting  and if it's a continental ranking we are top 1 in Africa and top 6 in the world. I'm also a huge fan of football betting and I tend to bet more especially when the team I support has a fixtures. However there is no doubt US would be in the leader board because they are widely know to be one of the most popular gambler especially American football.

Simple, money!
They have a huge population and a pretty wealthy one, also the pachinko industry is nuts there, it even dwarfs some entire countries GDP.
Also, horse racing, I don't usually bet on Japanese races since the timezone is completely opposite to mine but they have a ton of grade one races and huge volumes on every single bet when a festival is on.

Is am surprised that Nigeria is not among but I know Nigerians are really gambling.

It doesn't matter how many gamble, what matters is how much they gamble.
And with the US gamling industry being nearly $250 billion, that's close to the entire GDP of Nigeria, basically everyone there would need to gamble it's entire wage to come close to those numbers. Nigeria barely has 3 billion in the gambling industry,  it's peanuts compared to the big guys.

Normally the countries that gamble the most according to google is in the picture below that I am posting here for convenience, there has been such a thread a long time ago that asked about the same and intentionally if I recall correctly that thread asked the top 10 countries which gamble the most, it is exactly these countries that the picture below represents. Honestly I am extremely surprised to see that the list is being topped by Aussies from Australia as from far or distance they look like people that do not give a damn about gambling. In the end these countries will surprise you who gamble the most in the planet right now.

Well, nothing is so surprising about the USA leading gambling in every category. As we can all see, sportsbook, odds, spreads, and other sports betting related terms are what the sports casters talks about every single game. Even the commercials, casinos are always present. They are even a huge sponsors in mini games happening during timeouts and halftime.
However, I was expecting some countries in Europe would dominate the top 5. Looks like they're the kind of luxurious gamblers or maybe I'm just stereotyping here lol.

Maybe the data only puts into consideration online gambling activities, and not really all the physical shops where gambling can be done because I'm thinking in my head that the rate of gambling in the country should directly but proportional to the rate of poverty and the rate at which people are in search of a better life because there are many individuals who are gambling these days for the purpose of money to make it an additional an extra source of income as you've noticed and the advice on this board has increased a lot about people being cautious about gambling for money.

Las Vegas is known as the city of gamblers so I am noy surprised that USA has the highest number of gamblers because they love gambling. Whenever I visit Las Vegas, I will love to play in one or two casinos to enjoy their gaming and entertaining environment.

Does this record take into account online casinos? I have the feeling that the data used are based on casinos with physical shops because some of the countries there have strict laws when it comes to gambling. They also ensure they keep records of their citizens that gamble for tax purposes. I know of Australia as a country with serious laws about gambling. Unlike my country where our government does not even care whatever you do with your money or where you gamble in, no taxes in gambling and no limitations, so I am wondering how Japan happens to have more gamblers than my country.

I'm not surprised that the US and China occupy the top two spots, respectively. The US has numerous cities where revenues are generated from casinos.
China has been a major investor in many online and offline casinos. Here in our country alone, casino clients are mostly Chinese; it's part of their culture to gamble and be part of gambling platforms.
Many of their citizens are wealthy or belong to the middle class, who can afford to engage in gambling.

The data really interesting one you found!
US and China I was expecting, but Italy really surprise me. They have lottery history, yes, but nobody talk much about Italy as gambling country.
Australia also shock me small, but I hear pokies and sports betting very popular there, so maybe not so surprising now. They losing most money per person, that say a lot.

For me, Macau is my dream gambling place. Not only casino—whole vibe is different.
Chinese and Portuguese culture mix, big resorts, serious high-stake games.
It’s not like Vegas shining and party everywhere, but more focused, more serious.

If you choose one country to go just for gambling experience, where you will go?
I feel like every place got different story behind the money we lose!

It doesn't surprise me as it fits with my own predictions. US has a huge gambling culture or at least how its seen on the movies. People going to Las Vegas to have bachelors party or people hoping to visit that place at least once in their life to try gambling or people not missing to gamble as the pass Nevada.
I know Chinese are crazy in gambling. Gambling has been a part of chinese culture but straightforward gambling is discouraged in mainland china so the flock to Macau and nearby countries just to gamble. Their are gambling cities in Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar that I know of which are intended just for Chinese.
Japanese shows also promotes the concept of youths drinking and gambling every evening for fun. That should be a part of Japanese culture.

Honestly, I was expecting to see some African country here in this list you are sharing with us, specially Nigeria. Lately Nigeria had been in the spotlight because of the millions of people who dedicate much of their time to their gambling and betting.
As a matter of fact, there are hundreds or even thousands of people here in this forum who are from Nigeria and they actively gamble.

When comes to Italy and any other European country, to me it would strike me as a surprise, because I dont think of Europe when people talk about gambling.
It is rather ironic, how both rich and poor countries have significantly volume of gambling, when poor countries are the least suitable to engage in such activities.

Of course the US dominates the industry, it is the home to Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the world. There are many movies that happen in Vegas and have a casino theme. The entertainment industry would take a huge hit without Las Vegas.

Japan also isn’t surprising because many Japanese people find peace in gambling since they mostly can’t find anything else to have fun. (Hentai gets boring after some time I imagine)

Italy surprised me the most. It is a European country, people are mostly happy and yet gambling is still dominating. I need to study the reason probably.

To be honest, I'm not surprised because this is information that I already knew a few months ago, but I confess that when I found out about this a few months ago I was wondering how China has so many gamblers? Because the Chinese government is so strict that I thought they banned gambling, at least that's what I've read in the news, for example I know that in China the government does not consider lotteries legal, but I was shocked to learn that China has lotteries.

Is there a particular country you want to visit purposefully just to gamble?

If I had a lot of money, I would visit and play in all the physical casinos in the world, it would be a very good experience ;D

If you think of the EU as comparable in size to China and the USA - instead of all the countries individually within it, I wonder where they would sit in this table - maybe in one of the top three because it is a fairly rich region and most countries have fairly liberal/loose laws around gambling. I'm really surprised about that Super Bowl number, but the NFL is the number one national sport, I just thought that up until recently a lot of online gambling was restricted in America so maybe they are playing catch up now. China probably fluctuates on this list a bit because gambling is often targeted in anti-corruption drives and crackdowns can scare people off from playing if you consider how the Chinese internet is tracked.

Am not surprised seeing United States as the top of them all, because they have lots of gambling activities there as well as casinos very common and easy to locate, though I don't know maybe the ranking was the lastest or from previous statistics made as Australia making it there looks abnormal despite the ban, but we cannot conclude on that as people can choose to continue gambling even in their own privacy without the government intervention, most of the challenged ones are the physical casinos.

This is interesting, for sure. I want to correlate those things in terms of people's happiness because we all know people who gamble go because they want to be entertained and somehow hit that dopamine rush. What I am looking at is correlating it to the happiest countries on earth.

The top five in gambling and the top five in the happiest are different. I guess there's something to gambling that doesn't make people happy, or are there other correlations to be done for this one?

The last time I searched on this, it's just the same result you got that I also saw online, I searched about this because I was curious that my country will be among the top countries that gamble the most but I didn't even see my country any where close. US have a lot of population and the citizens love to have fun, and just like the things we discuss here, there are individuals that love to double their money through gambling, I believe they have a lot of citizens that are influenced with that mind set of making extra bucks through gambling, so is applicable to the other counties on the list, am not a bit surprise, am just surprise not to see my country on the list because there are billions of gamblers in my country.

By the way, how is the statistics of this data being calculated? Is it by the numbers of gamblers in every country or by the amount that is being gambled away?

The more developed a country is, the wealthier its people are and they seek pleasure in exchange for money. And the people of that country are the most addicted to gambling. For people in middle-class countries like us, it is very difficult to gamble with $200, but for them, it is not difficult to gamble with $2k. That is why people in countries like the United States are very addicted to gambling and they spend a lot of money on gambling, it is natural.

Those who gamble get the most pleasure from gambling. If a gambler is asked to visit a new gambling place, he will certainly welcome that opportunity. I am not very addicted to gambling. But I enjoy gambling a lot. That is why I also want to see the big casino companies of the world. Even though I cannot travel everywhere, I think Singapore is a very suitable country for gambling. If one can travel to this country, I think a gambler will enjoy it very well. Moreover, everyone wants to visit America, where Las Vegas is a famous area for gambling. If everyone gets the opportunity to travel to their favorite place according to their ability, they will definitely be happy.

It is unthinkable that the most surprising thing is that the United Arab Emirates has recently become a topic of conversation because it is planning to build the largest casino project, of course there is a possibility of cooperation with America, the aim is to provide commercial games so that they can attract sultans from all over the world. It's sad that anything can be done if the interest is to make a lot of money

It got my attention that Italy and Australia are part of the top 5. I ask myself if historically it has something to do with Italy being well known for the mafious families and regards Australia by the fact that country was stablished as a penal colony from Britain. Gambling has always been a common activity among criminals since past times, so there is some logic to think about that, who knows...

The only lacking continent on the list is Africa. All the others are represented by at least one country, including Oceania, which is a pretty rare continent in most aspects.

At first, you might be surprised - like, how is China number 2 in gambling when it’s illegal there?

But then you remember... Macau. Their very own version of Vegas! In fact, a lot of Vegas operators also run businesses in Macau. And it’s not just gambling, it’s a full-on tourist hub with hotels, restaurants, the whole Vegas vibe. So it's no surpise that the U.S. and China are still the big leaders  when it comes to the global gambling industry.

look at the casinos in the list.  (https://www.tripadvisor.com.ph/Attractions-g664891-Activities-c53-Macau.html)

Thank you for this topic, it was very interesting to read about the statistics and find out which countries are at the top of the most gambling. However, I would like to discuss what we get in the end: the USA did not surprise me by being on this list, because there is Las Vegas where many people gamble, while being tourists, and this confuses the statistics a little, because I am sure that there are a lot of tourists from other countries in Las Vegas. Therefore, it is impossible to say for sure that Americans are superstitious. While China may well be a country with a gambling population, because they are more superstitious than Americans. Well, the information about Italy is also interesting, but unexpected for me.

We have some few countries that are active gamblers but there names are not on this list, most of them don't even have gambling restrictions like some of the countrithat make the top list and should be viewed closely to checkmate wether this list is accurately composed or not.

Although US is one country that have a large amount of gamblers and sure it made sense to see United States on that list.

The very first time I heard of Las Vegas in the united states was based on gambling related topic or probably a movie when I was just a kid, hence I'm not really surprised of US being top 1, now other countries I expect to be up their is any other country that is as populated and advanced like US, which china never failed to show up and I also wanted to see Germany up there but they aren't in the top 5.

My country is definitely going to be on the list but probably down or amongst the last lol.

I am not surprised by the list. I want to see it drilled down to continents. I am curious about Africa. That is, which country in Africa gambles the most. Lately there has been the increase in gambling advert all over the continent of Africa. And these gambling companies cannot be thriving and expanding even to marginalized communities if they are not making money. By making money I mean, at the loss of their customers. I will say roughly that Kenya will be the top on the list followed by Nigeria, the Ghana, Maybe South-Africa.

I am not surprised to see those countries in the list of top country that has the most gamblers. I think as this countries begin to advance they also improve in everything, both in technology and in gamble. However, in this case those countries which you mentioned are doing find more than some of those countries which prohibit gamble. However I don't see any bad in gamble, it is just based on the gambler if he can be able to control himself or not and I actually think that the government in those countries know how to deal with an addict gambler.

United States is at the top of your list because they're the most televised country and being known that they're gambling. America is also a free world country that everybody can do anything they like without being criticized unlike other countries because there are some countries that people can't come out openly that they're gamblers but we have many gamblers in the country. I didn't think America gamble more, what I thought was that, it's going to be one country in Asia or Africa that gambles the more and it's includes all types of gambling in general and not only online casinos. There are some countries that have a big audience for gambling in their local league but this isn't being put into consideration to marking this list.

Well, I’m not surprised I have always knew that those in US gamble huge amount of money - I first got this idea when I started watching live streams of gamblers and discovered that so many of them who were based in the US are always high rollers; I thought maybe it was because of the difference of my local currency and the dollar value that made the difference that huge to me.

Assuming my countries currency’s value wasn’t too low when compared with the dollar value I’m sure my country would have made it to that list.

I was surprised that China was included in this list. As far as I know, the only regions where this type of activity is allowed are Hong Kong, which allows betting on horse racing, football and lotteries, all regulated, and Macau, which has its own legal system and autonomy from mainland China. Other than that, only state-run lotteries and some government-authorized sports betting are allowed. The Chinese government does not consider lotteries to be gambling, but rather a means of raising funds for social causes.

”China considers any online gambling operation that targets or serves Chinese consumers – regardless of whether it is located inside or outside China – to be offering an illegal service. Those who use such services or help others to do so are also subject to criminal penalties.”

But as I have observed many times, what is forbidden attracts even more attention, many are driven by the adrenaline and dopamine resulting from what is forbidden.

Note: I know they access via VPN, many of the sites accessed are foreign (operating illegally under Chinese laws), accessed via alternative links, I know all of this, and I am not taking it into account.

Every country gambles more or less and participates in gambling. However, these countries being at the top of the gambling list did not surprise me at all because people gamble for entertainment or to earn money. In fact, I can participate in gambling from my country. Since I have seen offline gambling houses in my country and from there I have returned to online gambling, now I do not have to go to any other country to gamble, I can enjoy gambling and play from my country. However, I could not find the list of my Bangladesh, maybe my Bangladesh is far below in all these lists.

These nations have flourishing economies where citizens are well paid, so I am not surprised. People who would gamble are those who have enough to spare. In developing nations people will not gamble much since they are more focused on survival through their meagre earnings.

In movies, Las Vegas in the US is always portrayed as the headquarters of the world. Macau is another country is developing it's physical gambling capabilities.

Visiting a country just to gamble is not ideal. I don't have such money to spend. Maybe I can visit casinos in these two locations if I visit there for other purposes like business or for holidays.

I'm not surprised by any control on that list, as they are doing what they love best. One thing that this list just makes me reconfirm is what I have always said and been against in terms of argument: the reason why theirs rise in gambling in some controls, which many say is a result of poverty, is that most of the top 10 controls on that list are doing well economically, and the majority of the gamblers are not poor to be able the amount they do.

is it possible that it is because of how big a population china has? obviously the more people there are the higher number there could be of gamblers and this could be a factor to why china got to this list

well anyway it can also just mean that there are heavy gamblers in the region and does not necessarily mean that they have the most casinos in the world

With Italy, I didn't know that gambling is rampant there and with this stats they are on the 4th place. While the rest in the top 5, I am not surprised. And as for Japan, I think it has been a big center for entertainment for the japanese people when they gamble. It's not being advertised as gambling but entertainment and it's very legal there. I've watched videos that people stay in the gambling centers during the opening and up until the closing time but they don't label them as gambling addicts.

USA is surely one of the biggest market in many things so if they are also ruling in gambling it's not surprised, but few other countries are surprising even they are doing strict policies for controlling, but it's not helping, and their turnover is increasing.
Many countries those are had ban on this also have the good number of gamblers which are giving their contribution, but It's not officially so no one can give how much is going to online sites through them because I personally feel figures could be surprising because numbers are surely too much which are shown in above post.
India is also one of the country where things are going on new levels but due to policies nothing is officially same happening about few other countries those are fighting hard to stop this, but It's still having his share in their market.

I agree with you, one of the reasons for gambling is to make more money for very short time. I was not surprised to see this rankings. People in the state that are more developed are accustomed to gamble in various platform. However, there may be many reasons for this, but as you say, gambling or betting can be one of the reasons for poverty. Although I do not have a state on this list. However, I think the people of my country are betting on the gambling platform or the platform because of greater profit. However, most people face the loss. This is how the rate of loss increases day by day. But I think these rank will always change. As shown currently.
1. United States
2. China
3. Japan

I am surprised at these results, but also I am not. You must understand first how data is gathered and how to interpret it before you can say anything about the results. The author of this thread should have posted the source of the information to make this easier. I found it.

https://www.worldatlas.com/society/countries-that-gamble-the-most.html

The article does not mention the sample size or how they gathered, and neither does it show a link to the data. Because of this, you can discard these results completely. What probably happened is that the methodology is weak and the sample size is terrible. Further, there is a big difference in results depending on whether you survey people online or in person. In some countries most gambling is done online, and in others it is the complete opposite and it is done in person.

I was not surprised to see the US and China at the top of this list. But I was more surprised to see Italy, Australia, and Japan on the list. However, I would like to clarify the method for calculating these losses. Are they based on absolute numbers, or are they recalculated per 100,000 population (or some other similar figure)? If they are simply absolute numbers, they can be misleading and give rise to all sorts of cognitive biases. For example, there is such a cognitive bias. There is a known false correlation between the number of churches in a city and the amount of crime in it. This bias is based on the fact that the crime rate (as well as the number of religious buildings) in a city depends on the number of inhabitants in it. The larger the population, the more crime and churches. Therefore, the number of losses should be calculated per standard number of inhabitants.

Yeah this is the answer for people who wondering why their countries aren't included on the list.

Just check the website posted by @OP, they rank the countries who gamble the most based on the losses instead of the numbers gambler/population ratio.

I was surprised that Japan is on the list. Especially considering how tightly regulated gambling is.

It's true Japan is really tight, but gambling is popular on there. What they play is Pachinko (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/pachinko?variant=zh-cn), something like pinball arcade games.

I think the reason why many Japanese gamble because if they work under senior who're gambler, they're forced to gamble too in order to respect their seniors.

Well, the fact that the United States occupies the first place is not surprising. However, as well as the fact that China took the second place. First of all, the large number of people in these countries allows them to occupy high places. Also, in both countries there are special cities for gambling (Las Vegas and Macau), where, in addition to the indigenous people of the countries, tourists come purposefully to gamble. Well, these "quantitative" factors explain this rating. Although at first glance, you might think that there are some particularly gambling people living in these countries. Actually, no, people everywhere are equally very gambling.

Not surprised either that the US will top the list of countries that gambles the most, you cannot conclude about gambling popularity without mentioning a city like Las Vegas. I don't know much about other African countries but Nigerians are very huge on gambling, we have a large population of gamblers in the country, but it's mostly on sports bet. Physical casino are not too popular in the country I guess that could be the reason why the country is not among the top but online gambling is very popular here.

The fact is USD has a pretty decent value in the currency market and as a result of the fact that it's the base currency in the US, their volume will definitely turn out as one of the largest. Come to think of it , statistics like this are not drawn based on head count or something related rather it's mostly based on total volume.
Aside from that the frequency of gambling in a country also depends on the intensity of the labour sector of that country. It isn't a directly dependent factor but it also contributes indirectly too.

https://africa.businessinsider.com/local/lifestyle/10-countries-with-the-highest-internet-gambling-population/sm1zm72

I think the betting shops are still going to be regarded as part of it.

Nigeria is supposed to be among the top gambling country globally because I saw an article early this year that states that the the Nigeria online gambling market is estimate at €675.1m in grass gambling revenue this year. Secondly, I learned that Nigeria ranked the third country in Africa gambling market, while South Africa and Kenya rank 1 and 2, and from the OP's data, those country are not even added. Some of those data online are not completely accurate, that's what I observe.

Maybe the analysis was done based on how much they've lost in gross and not on the number of active gamblers that exists in that region. If we are considering countries that have a lot of her youths involved in gambling, some African countries like Nigeria could top the list because a lot of youths engage in this practice almost on a daily basis. The reason might just be because most of her systems aren't working well and a lot of opportunities are not there for getting jobs and so, most of them rely in gambling as the means to their end. The United states and most of the big nations that are listed are makes this list because the few that gamble make use of outrageous amount that increases how much they loose on an average in gambling.

Casinos are quite popular in the United states but for real, I doubt they are as much as we do have sports betting shop here in Nigeria. An average 16 year old teenager have either directly or indirectly gotten involved in sports betting but like it appears to be the case, if the subject Is with regards how much they lose in the process, then we can't really ascribe them to be worth being included as a top gambling nation.

And concerning visiting a country to gamble specifically, I have no such plan or desire, I am not that into gambling so I see no reason my visiting a country should be for the purpose of gambling, if I am ever visiting any country, it will either be for business or vacation, for when it comes to gambling, I am very happy gambling online from my country.

It's not surprising that developed countries have regulated casinos as its one of the sector that gives profit to their country.

I was wondering about online gambling using cryptocurrency, since crypto is accessible online and to everyone, I'm wondering which country do gamble the most online using cryptocurrency. Is there any study or research regarding that?  ???

None of this countries surprised me to be on the list of countries that gamble the most, as a matter of fact, i am not even interested in this information as it is absolutely none beneficial to me, I understand perfectly well that no knowledge is a waste as it come come in handy someday somehow, but until then, I find no value in knowing any of this currently.

I also play online from my country and I am not going to go anywhere for this. Of course, if I go on holiday to one of these countries, I can go play out of curiosity, to get new emotions, to evaluate slot machines, but not to get too carried away by it. Nevertheless, from the list, Australia surprised me, if I remember correctly, they introduced a strict ban for young players, because the situation with the spread of gambling among young people was catastrophically high.

Title with less related content, I don't think we can make a list just from gambling losses. Moreover, there's no our country there. Just FYI, Indonesia is currently a hot market for this sector, even though gambling is illegal here, people still go to online casinos to play. We have a crazy population & I believe that we are in the top 5 (honestly, not a pride).

I am not surprised of the above mentioned countries. What I know that could thrive the extension rate of gambling in a region is either due to economy structural stability with the governments focused on the welfare of her citizens and residence.
So the above mentioned are all of global economy influential countries whose economy news could have effects on other countries in the globe.

Sometimes what strives the increase of gamblers in such states is too much comfortability where residence does not stress too much to earn money for living.

So they probably lack financial management which also prompt investors to invest more in expatiating the betting ecosystem and while they may tend to provide the masses the interesting services is the more it residence are gambling while the bet company owners are making more money in the sight of providing the players their exciting gaming services while they may play for fun and likely get carried away.

Yeah, I remember when this news was all over the internet that the Australian government banned gambling for young players, I can't remember vividly when this happened, possibly some two or three years ago or so, I am not so very sure. But even with this, I am still not surprised they are on the list, I know that with the ban, most of us would expect the country not to make it into a list like this, but one important thing again to consider is the credibility of the statistics the op shared, how credible is the source the information came from, this is something we should also consider before any final conclusions.

And again, concerning visiting a country, yeah you are right and I absolutely agree wit you, if I have a any country for vacation or for business, as long as time permits me, I don't mind trying out their casinos out of curiosity like you said, but then, like I've said before, gambling won't and can never be my main reason of traveling outside my country.

I am not surprise to see USA and China that gamble the most. But seeing Italy in the top 5 and Canada in the number 7 on the list, well that is surprise me. I never though those countries will be in that list.

It seems there is a change on people behavior treating gambling. We can hope that will not because they sees many people win much money from gambling so they are attract to follow those people.

But if they are playing gambling by online, I am not surprised since online gambling has become more popular over the past few years. So they can see many online gambling advertisements in many places and that can make them start gambling because of curiosity.

I still don't know how this statistics could be gotten more accurately to know which countries stands the first top 10 knowing that we both have the physical casinos as well as the online gambling platforms in their numbers in each country, except each casino may give the statistics of it users from each countries that have registered online and in person, but looking by the way of population and how some GEOs are endowed with gamblers, we may still go by the one OP has given.

Las Vegas, maybe one day I will be able to go to America and visit the world of casinos as they are presented in all their glory. I have some connections with relatives from there, and maybe there will be a chance to see it all with my own eyes. As for the countries most involved in gambling, these should be the countries where casinos are allowed by the state, and it is also obvious that the standard of living of people should not be on the edge of poverty, since casinos are not a place for poor people. All other countries, where people live from paycheck to paycheck, most often do not welcome such activities, and people, in the hope of changing their lives for the better, play with their last money in online casinos, which sometimes leads to bad consequences for those who are full of illusions.

Japan, China and Italy surprised me quite a bit. I think of Japan and China as being known for their general hard work and innovative thinking. But it was completely unexpected for me that their country would be in the top 5 of the list of gamblers. It was completely predictable that the United States would be at the top of this list. But Japan, China and Italy surprised me. I didn't even expect Australia to be on this list. I thought countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain and India would make the list.
If we are to judge base on the rise in gambling in the country called Nigeria we will all argue that we are suppose to come out among the top 10, but most of the Africa countries not just Nigeria is not among the top on that list, most of this data analysis make use of different data which they get from different places which is why we don’t have to believe everything that we get from one source, base on the data they gather their conclusion might be correct if others who are also more focused on Africa countries present their recent data Nigeria and South Africa is definitely going to be among the list.

Actually, it is pretty much a widespread stereotype that Asian people are prone to gamble and become addicted to gambling and taking risk with their money. Here in my city there are underground gambling floors full of slots machines in which our local asian community gathers at in order to gamble away hundreds of dollars. So to me it is not a surprise China is within the top countries with gambling population on this planet. The impressive thing is how Japan's can manage to get to such a top while as the same time having gambling restrictions and bans on casinos and betting establishments. Gambling as we know it is not allowed in Japan, but they are passionate enough to continue to partake on it following the tight restrictions set up by their national government.

I was also surprised that there is not a single European country, but probably it depends on the mentality of the inhabitants, the prevalence of advertising gambling, the fashion is easy to get rich among the population, the cult of money, wealth and many other factors. In my country, I notice more and more advertising gambling and I think that the population is actively and is more and more starting to play. I understand a lot in the psychology of players and the mechanism of the very game, the emergence of greed and the desire to recoup, but ordinary players do not have such experience, especially for beginners.

It is no wonder that the United States is ranked first as the country with the most gamblers, because that is where the heaven of gamblers from all over the world gathers. It turns out that the movies I often watch are true. lol
Just like you, I was also quite surprised that numbers 4 and 5 were occupied by Italy and Australia, I thought it was occupied by one of the countries in the Middle East. ::)

My situation is pretty much the same as yours. Because we all know that Las Vegas is famous for casinos and gambling, and Las Vegas is located in the United States of America. So I am not surprised that America is in the first place.
And then if we talk about China, then China is the most populous country in the world and it is natural that this country will be at the top of the rankings. So I am also not surprise about the chain who were the second position. And about the Japan I have work with multiple casino who were targeting  Japanese region because of this season that Japanese also do heavy gambling.
I learned about Australia last year that they are also at the top of the gambling world in terms of losses, but I didn't know about Italy at all, but I was surprised to learn about both Australia and Italy. And if I talk about my wishes, I'm not that much of a gambler, but I do want to see the city of Las Vegas, even if it's not for gambling.

No country in the world that doesn't gamble. Even the most religious and hard working country, their citizens find their way to gamble no matter how busy they are, they still want to catch some fun and make some cool cash.

I am not surprised about the countries OP mentioned because no country is holy than the other when it comes to gambling. Countries citizens have been guilty of gambling for so long and they find gambling as a means of becoming more wealthy and entertaining themselves. My own country(Nigeria) gambles a whole lot. We are not exception to online gambling

What i find kind of funny is that many of those countries are restricted in most big web casinos around there, to the point where even transferring cryptos/money from U.S. based exchange wallet can be restricted.

Btw i am aware of fibonacci as mathematical sequence, but you were referring to it as a gambling activity, which i am not aware of. I can't even find that by quick googling, so can you elaborate on that?

How is that measured? According to the total population or according to what % of the population of each country that gambles? In my country, everyone gambles. Almost there is no man that doesn't gambles, so I'm sure that the USA's 26% means nothing, especially since they mention sports betting, because here every man, woman and child places a bet on a soccer match when there is an important match.

I'm surprised about Japan, I didn't know if they were gambling. I know about Italy and China, on Evolution live tables, lots of Italians and Chinese were gambling. Italians were mostly gambling on live blackjack and roulette tables but Chinese were gambling on Bacaraat, there were hundreds of Chinese on bacarrat tables, it was always full of them.

That is the list of a countries where most money were lost, but that isnt a list of countries were gamble the most. US billionaire loses million and a 999,999 of $1 bets lost in India for example. Does it makes US as country that gamble the most? Absolutely not. How statistics is being formed anyway? By casino reports and their business registration place? Gambling has been very popular in Republic of Singapore, but that country is not even in the list, while every fourth citizen there gamble.

I may not know in other African countries but you see in Nigeria we have lots of gamblers. No joke, the numbers are increasing every single day both in online casinos and in local betting shop.

Countries that are also struggling on economy growth can as well massively embraced gambling due to desperacy of making money which residence might as well gaze at the gambling prize pooling units as a means of making money on winning which has lead to massive increase of Nigerians pulling a high rate of gamblers in the gambling industries today couple with the accessibilities of players being accessible to online and offline gambling systems.

And that's why if watch clearly, most gamblers in our localities get carried away on that course of trying to make money while playing adamantly even while loosing above their limits.
And such related alarming effects is also what has prompted some countries banning or limited the accessibility of players to gamble to help moderate those who had lost their minds at the course of addiction.

About the reason Nigeria is not among, stompix is correct. But people in South Nigeria are gambling if population is used. Many parts of the Norths are Muslims which will make gambling activities to reduce in that part of the country, unlike the South.

On this topic you’re right since it’s rank based on the gross loss.

I’m interested to see a ranking based on the number of people that gambling per country and what’s their percentage to their country population.

We can gather data on which country has the most number of gamblers which I believe the very accurate way to measure gambling popularity on each country.

Japan surprised me on this list since I thought Gambling is completely ban on this country while only pachinko is the only gambling allowed.
It’s under the criminal code chapter 23 so I’m not sure why Japan is on the top spot with limited gambling games allowed for them to play.

It’s true that’s why I’m surprised about this result. They very limited option yet they are spending huge amount more than most of the country that gambling is complete legal.

Also, Some Japanese is investing on casino to different country since they have Okada Manila here in Philippines that is owned by Japanese billionaire.

They are gambling on casino outside their country.

Maybe this is for another different conversation but I wonder but which one drives people to gambling more. Lack of money or abundance of money? There are countries like USA that are doing well as they are visited by tourists because these tourists are wanting to play in casinos and their citizens are doing well enough to gamble. But there are also countries where the citizens are so poor they have no other choice but to rely on luck and hope they get rich through that. Right now it seems like economic prosperity is what drives people to gamble more.

Most of the countries listed are big countries honestly speaking, and what surprised me was that I didn't think Australia was included, because most of this country is in the middle class level of life there.

I just have no idea which place in Australia has the most casinos built, because in China it's Macau, and in the US it's Las Vegas that's also the place where gamblers are. So thanks again for this information.

Normally the countries that gamble the most according to google is in the picture below that I am posting here for convenience, -snip-

https://i.ibb.co/3nycfb2/COUNTRIES.png (https://ibb.co/3nycfb2)

It surprises me that relatively small countries are in the top 10, which means that not only economic power is a factor, but also something strongly cultural.

Being a Spaniard myself seeing my country there doesn't shock me especially, because I know that we have a great tradition of gambling although there are not many famous casinos in here (EuroVegas project failed before even starting), so I think that for many people it can be counterintuitive. Just like a few more in that list, but the most obvious ones are also there, so it must be right.

How could you break records in money spent on gambling with people who have no money?  ;D
Australia is there because they gamble and have huge wages, even if a country would have the same percentage of population gambling when they earn 50 times less how could they compete for that place? Also, let's be a bit real here, all the countries there are G20 countries, counting out China that makes up with popualtion they are also in the top 20 higest wage in the world.

About the reason Nigeria is not among, stompix is correct. But people in South Nigeria are gambling if population is used. Many parts of the Norths are Muslims which will make gambling activities to reduce in that part of the country, unlike the South.

But would that be a right comparison between Nigeria with 200 million population and Ireland with 5?
We all know what matters in gamblign is the $, any casino would drop 100 low earners for a guy like Drake  ;D

The abundance of money may tempt you to gamble, but if you are poor, you will want to gamble. Even though these two tendencies are opposite, you will continue to pressure yourself to gamble. For example, if you have abundance of wealth, you will go to the casino to enjoy your time and to have fun or earn extra money with your money. The poor tend to earn more in a short time by gambling, and getting money will be considered entertainment for them.

Getting high profits without hard work and in a short time, even getting rich quickly by participating in betting. Everyone has expectations when it comes to winning. Rich people may be able to participate in betting more, but poor gamblers have to set a budget according to their own means and bet. You gave the example of a country like America. If I give the example of a country like Thailand, the citizens of that country are using casinos and various means of betting to earn money from tourists. Even though the people of their country are not in economic prosperity, they themselves are not that addicted to gambling.

Gambling is one thing that has been having followership for a long time but we are experiencing a new turn in this twenty first century as gambling has taken a different turn with because gambling is now a house hold name depending on the country that you find yourself because in my country there is no street that you pass that you don't see any gambling shop as you can see up to five to six gambling shops belongings to different casinos, I am one of those people who believe that the rise in gambling related activities is linked to the poor economy we are having across the world as gambling is now seen as a way out

So we have a country for almost each region: north america, asia and australia. Did any of the countries in the list surprise you? Is there a particular country you want to visit purposefully just to gamble? .

I will be surprised if the US and China are not on the list. The world is aware that these two countries have cities with physical casinos and online and offline sports betting platforms, and the Chinese are particularly fond of gambling, as many popular casinos have Chinese owners or partners.
During the height of POGO's here in our country, all POGO operations were headed by Chinese, and they have POGOs in countries that allow them to run.

United States unapologetically also has the highest gambling records alongside owning the large sized slot machines, table games and lucrative casino halls.Checking from gambling data, I've also realized that United States leads in the total gambling revenues.
On the other side,US economy is likely reliant on gambling and gaming industry which is the intriguing force to gamble more and more.

There are many great offline casinos in Sydney and Melbourne. I was in Sydney and visited The Star Sydney Casino.

It is a very good casino, I liked it very much, but the taxi driver told me that there are many big casinos in Sydney, which are even bigger than The Star Sydney Casino (and Australians are incredibly gambling people). Australians save up their money and then check into a hotel next to the casino. Then they play roulette or slot machines for a few days. In the end, they either lose all their money or leave the casino in a brand new, very expensive car.

The casino has 1,500 slot machines, in addition, there are also gaming tables where roulette, baccarat, craps, blackjack and other gambling games are played 24 hours a day. This casino also has the Sovereign Room, where especially rich and experienced players play, and the bets reach $ 75,000.  There is also a special elite club of players, where the maximum bet reaches 500,000 US dollars, that is, only dollar millionaires can play there.

Therefore, I am not at all surprised by the fact that Australia is among the top countries where people lose the maximum amount of money in casinos.

Australians are no less gambling people than the Chinese. In addition, there are a lot of tourists in Australia.

The rating makes logical but Italy being in the top five is shocking.  I always thought of it more for history and food than gaming.  Given pokies are so common in Australia, I find it not surprising either. Although I would prefer travel for the experience than gambling, if I had to choose anywhere Macau over Vegas.

But would that be a right comparison between Nigeria with 200 million population and Ireland with 5?
We all know what matters in gamblign is the $, any casino would drop 100 low earners for a guy like Drake  ;D
I saw where you posted this yesterday:

Is am surprised that Nigeria is not among but I know Nigerians are really gambling.

It doesn't matter how many gamble, what matters is how much they gamble.
And with the US gamling industry being nearly $250 billion, that's close to the entire GDP of Nigeria, basically everyone there would need to gamble it's entire wage to come close to those numbers. Nigeria barely has 3 billion in the gambling industry,  it's peanuts compared to the big guys.

That is enough as an explanation. If I see something not correct about it, I would have quoted it in a post.

I am not comparing anything but just an additional information that Northern parts of the country in Nigeria are not gambling like the Southern part.

Also I did not post that what you posted is half correct or not completely correct. I posted that it is correct. I think that explains my post enough.

Quote
China has the most gambling addicts in the world. Close to 60 million Chinese are gambling addicts, or 4% of the Chinese population.

Italy's population is 59 million, Australia's 27 million...

The Chinese have almost 20 times more addicted gamblers than the entire population of my country. The US and China have been on the top of this list for years I think, and I doubt that anything will change about that... Both are crazy big countries with so many very rich people.

But I think the list would be different if it showed the number of gamblers and gambling addicts in relation to the population. It is unlikely that such a list exists, and even if it did, I would question its reliability... Many countries do not have such surveys, and even if they do, I doubt that the sample they use is large.

Nigeria is supposed to be among the top gambling country globally because I saw an article early this year that states that the the Nigeria online gambling market is estimate at €675.1m in grass gambling revenue this year.
And Australia is 163 billion!!!! Do you see the difference?

As I said before, it doesn't matter how many people gamble, what it matters is how much they can afford to gamble!
Disposable income in Nigeria is $700, it's $35000 in Australia!
How would people in Nigeria even be able to gamble as much when they don't even have that money?
You are right if we look at it from the angle of the cash inflow for these countries because US must definitely beat every other country as they have far more access to capital and various credit facilities. Furthermore,  Per capital income of citizens of these countries are far higher than that of Nigerians and even if Nigeria have more gamblers by head count, they may not be able to measure with the countries listed . In other words, what an average American can bet with will likely be what the average Nigerian may be aiming to win. Therefore, I agree with the rating on the basis of volume.

Also I did not post that what you posted is half correct or not completely correct. I posted that it is correct. I think that explains my post enough.

I didn't say you're not correct, I was just highlighting why these approaches are bad, population or percentages.
Counting the number of people in a country that gamble is not really an indicator of anything, a percentage-wise would be closer, but again, then we have the problem of how much those gamble, cause you have gamblers and gamblers...you mentioned that there is a difference between Northern and Southern Nigeria.

I could see only two statistics that would really make sense:
- the number of addicts percentage wise
- the number of people that make money out of gambling
I doubt anyone could figure out those two without huge errors.

The rating makes logical but Italy being in the top five is shocking.  I always thought of it more for history and food than gaming.

Yeah, you forgot the part where they were betting on who dies in the next fight  ;D

About the reason Nigeria is not among, stompix is correct. But people in South Nigeria are gambling if population is used. Many parts of the Norths are Muslims which will make gambling activities to reduce in that part of the country, unlike the South.
The people in southern Nigeria are more diverse Christians and their gambling population is also increasing with a large population,
but even then, a small income will also have an effect on how much they gamble.

But it's not about religion or anything that affects their lack of interest in gambling,
some people will never think about religion if they want to gamble, just how the regulations are enforced in the country.

In my country, Indonesia is predominantly Muslim with an income that is also not very large,
but there are more gamblers playing in illegal casinos, and even more new casinos are constantly popping up.

The countries of the European continent are very ahead in all areas, be it gambling or anything else. They use gambling as a place of fun, but those who are from middle class families use gambling as a source of income. Because they think that they can win a lot of money from gambling and through it they can become rich. And after playing for a few days, when they face a lot of losses, they stop gambling. But since the people of the European continent use gambling as fun, they always continue to gamble for fun purposes and the population of that country is very high, so these countries are at the top in all areas, be it gambling or anything else.

I think one of the reasons why the US has high rate of gamblers is because they have the big casinos around each states especially at Las Vegas that is the top casinos location in the world. The US policies support these casinos and the people who are interested in gambling can easily go to any casino centers and try their luck.

Gambling has been the major source of income of many people which is why they can never leave it. Some gamblers are making more than 5 years the salary of many workers in one seating which is why the rate of gambling can not reduce at all. New gamblers are joining the the space after they have heard about people making huge profits from gambling. By 20230, there could be more gamblers in the street than the numbers of employed workers.

It was not surprising for me because they are rich countries. I'll be surprised if my country could be there or even at least one of the top 20. It is expected in these countries, as gambling is a huge business and it generates more money. And this will also tell us that more people are engaging in gambling, not just to win but to have pleasure. Unless these countries are poor.
We could say that gambling is already a part of our day-to-day activity. The list will show us that the demand is quite high in big countries.

I found this ranking very interesting! I must admit that I was also surprised to see Italy and Australia in the top 5. I had always heard a lot about the tradition, but I had never associated the country with a classic casino destination, like Las Vegas or Macau, for example.

Australia, on the other hand, took me by surprise! I had no idea that the volume of bets there was so significant. Later, I checked it out and, in fact, they have a very strong sports betting culture and those slot machines are spread all over the place.

About visiting a country just to gamble... I think Las Vegas is still a classic that I would be curious to visit, more for the experience of the place than for the game itself.

But do these rankings reflect more the local culture or the economic power of these countries?

I am not surprised to see Australia in the list. Some time ago we had here topic about government and banks were planning or preparing a law that does not allow Australian to use bank cards for gambling, because a lot of Australian took loan and gamble. I think it has ended with not finding a right solution how to do that "gambling ban for cards" technically. Italy only surprised a little. After seeing how they fan for their football clubs, I wont be surprised that majority of Italian gamblers are football bettors.

Gambling is common in both poor and wealthy countries the difference lies more in scale and accessibility. Developed countries offer more legal options, and higher incomes allow people to spend more on gambling. Obviously, someone earning $200 a month can’t afford to lose $1,200, which explains the gap in statistics.

Moreover, people with higher incomes tend to gamble more responsibly and within their budget, while those with lower incomes especially with limited financial literacy often spend their last money chasing quick wins, which only worsens their situation.

Nah it did not surprise me at all especially that USA and China placed 1st and 2nd respectively.

I mean, Las Vegas is located in the US and China is expected to be in the list given its massive population and tons of advertisements of gambling. Additionally, China created thousands of gambling websites that spread its influences to different countries across all the continents. While this may be said, it is obviously beneficial to a country financially due to the tremendous amounts of revenue that gambling can generate.

I am curious, however, regarding the statistical data of gamblers who sought professional help per country. With this kind of data, we can check which country suffers the most addiction caused by gambling. This data can be useful in order to at least help others in need in order to address their addiction.

You know, you post makes me wonder whether there is some societal and economical differences in countries where gambling is completely forbidden and people in those countries do not have access to casinos or bookies in the same way we have and take for granted. It comes to my mind places like Saudi Arabia, they are considered to be a high income country thanks to their oil reserves and industry, but their laws based on the Sharia do not allow them to gamble or bet. Makes me question if they have a better level of life and the poor suffer less reckless choices because of the absence of gambling in their society.
There must be some scientific study about it somewhere on Google Scholar.

Which country is most attracted to gambling or which country's gambling platform generates the most revenue, the answer to these two questions will be the same, with the United States leading the way. If you search online platforms, the United States is far ahead in gambling. There is a good reason for the position of China. China is a populous country, despite various government restrictions, but people are quite active on online gambling platforms. Since the population is large, it is natural that their average ratio will be higher. If we consider the betting in terms of money in comparison, I think Nigeria could also be one of the top countries. The country has a large number of gamblers who are very attracted to sports betting. It doesn't included in the list now, the country will definitely make it to the top list in the next few years.

No, I'm not surprised by the numbers, and I even thought that the Chinese with their huge population should be in the top stop and not US. Because when I played on a landbase casinos, I will see a lot of Chinese and Japanese playing on the floor and only a few Americans or shall I say caucasians are playing.

As for Europeans, maybe some of the games originated from there but it seems that with their small population, they might not be really into gambling. Or maybe their government really suppressed that's why the numbers is not at par.

For the Chinese, they have Macau and other nations in the Asian region as well have big gambling casinos similar to Las Vegas. Although still the center of gambling for me is the US.

Due to its accessibility, many people are encouraged to gamble. That is how they played the market and caught people who wanted to gamble with their hard-earned and extra money. I'm sure my country will be in the top 20 on the list if it's extended, except if offline gambling isn't counted as part of the stats. The rate at which lotto kiosks and centres spring up in my country is really alarming and it goes to show how addicted youths are becoming to gambling. As for the US topping the list, I ain't surprised. The US is a country that doesn't restrict stuff which keeps citizens busy and entertained, provided those who run them remit taxes to government.

I say this from a statistical point of view, a large sample has to be taken, something significant where both physical and online casinos are considered, in China they obviously play, even with VPN protocols among others, they play, even if they say they don't, they do, then by having these statistics you have an idea of what generally occurs and they are much more reliable numbers, the rest for me are speculations based on small studies.

As for the US topping the list, I ain't surprised. The US is a country that doesn't restrict stuff which keeps citizens busy and entertained, provided those who run them remit taxes to government.
I think so too mate, in my country I normally see people gamble offline than online, although we are not there to know if they are also gambling online or just offline. However, I actually think all this are just based on statistics because despite the fact that some countries prohibited gamble but I am also still sure that some of them are still using vpn to gamble. you are right, US is a popular country and am sure that they have more gamblers than other countries.
Yes, that is just statistic which we never know that is still the same or change. But out of that, I also sure that more people will come from a country that we may not expect that the number of people who playing gambling is big.

We don't know if local casino are also include in that list so we may think that the data need to update. Besides that, it need more research to find more info about the casino or gamblers in all countries so we have more percentage or number that up to date. But I am sure that many people are hiding their gambling activity so that will difficult to know the right percentage.

Japan surprised me on this list since I thought Gambling is completely ban on this country while only pachinko is the only gambling allowed.

It’s under the criminal code chapter 23 so I’m not sure why Japan is on the top spot with limited gambling games allowed for them to play.
The gambling mindset is put into the japanese people right from their childhood. With Gacha machines, Crab machines in every place, the gratification of getting your hands on one of the rewards from these machines begins right in their tender years.

As time passes on and they become adults, they cant stop getting their hands on a pachinko machine which is another gambling station.

So nothing surprising here, gambling is very common among Japanese and often the salarymen are in debts to the local loan sharks.

I am very surprised that Japan is in third place on this list. The thing is that it is a rather pragmatic country. Yes, they believe in their religion and spirits, but are they as superstitious and gambling as the Chinese? Statistics say that they are. Apparently, Asian nations love colorful casino interfaces, and similar to their love for computer games and entertainment such as rooms with different slot machines, Japan guys like the atmosphere of gambling.

A list of the most gamblers can be made when the country has official permission to gamble. In each of the countries you mentioned, gambling is officially allowed, so the official count gives an idea of how much people gamble every year, but in countries where gambling is not officially legalized, it is not known how much people gamble in those countries. Nowadays, gambling has become such a thing that every profession, every age group knows about this game of gambling, and everyone has a curiosity about gambling. I see a lot of people from my country gambling, but gambling is not officially allowed in my country. So even if all the people in my country gamble, it will not be counted. People are gradually learning about gambling easily and I think that in the next ten years, most countries in the world will directly allow gambling.

You are very mistaken, there is no reason to doubt Japan or any other Asian country. They love to gamble and even have their unique games. The gambling industry in Japan is huge. Just read the post above yours.

This. Gacha machines can be crazy, and I've seen people online addicted to it. If you play such things as a child, you are almost destined to become a gambler when you grow up.

I see that the population and economic status of the countries matter the most.

I could be wrong, but the data is likely showing us more rich people gamble not for the sake of making money, but for them to enjoy life. And those poor countries struggling hard to survive likely have no time for gambling. Let us accept the truth that gambling is an expensive hobby, and only those who have a lot of money can completely enjoy it.

If you are gambling every day, you are not just a real gambler but a really rich person.

I guess that could have something to do with their karma-based religions. People feel that they could be luckier if they are entitled for good karma etc...
Also to my knowledge there are some numerical superstitions that could play a role in gambling, even though China probably outranks them of that.

If you combine combine numerical superstition with idea of karma, then everything else seems like overthinking because gambling seems like obvious result for it.

I'm surprised to see Canada at the top of the list here, but I had to call a friend of mine who lives there to ask if it's really true and she confirmed it lol. She said they gamble a lot over there and it's a serious problem because immigrants who come from other countries dealing with gambling addiction go there and get worse. With all the laws in Canada I thought this would be prohibited. Spain isn't really a surprise to me

I thought our country was among the most gambling countries, but it's not true, that's why I said that because gambling is so widespread here through online, especially when there was a new administration in our government that supposedly legalized gambling here, even though it was illegal, they made it legal, it seems like that.

Then there are also so many well-known influencers here who promote gambling casinos that most of them seem to be promoting illegal online casinos, so many people are addicted to online casinos, which is actually not true.
