I was scrolling through X today when I came across this post above which the post really got my attention, because of the caption on it, so I was eager to carry out few research about it if it's true, because i was not expecting just less than 4% of the world population to only own bitcoin, I was expecting to see a more reasonable figure. But Despite the growing hype around bitcoin am still surprise that bitcoin adoption globally is still low and slow. And from the estimated bitcion ownership by continent north America leads the park with 10.7%, while the adoption of bitcoin in africa is still low just 1.6%. Am now wrapping up with this word of encouragement and advise, that those individuals who have not yet get started with bitcoin it's still early for them, they can get started as soon as possible, because this space offers vast potential for future growth and many more. source 1 (https://cryptonews.com.au/news/report-finds-global-bitcoin-ownership-at-4-claims-adoption-just-beginning-127597/) source 2 (https://www.binance.com/en/square/post/21969513218498) source 3 (https://blockchain.news/flashnews/less-than-4-of-the-world-owns-btc-trading-implications-for-adoption-liquidity-and-volatility) Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. No time is too late, the value of bitcoin will keep on appreciating yeah but by how much? even if btc reaches 200k the value of ur investment would be only 2x from now whereas people who got in really early, the real og bitcoin hodlers made a fortune so, let's stop saying we're still early. can we do that pls? we're late and we must accept it. its big boys games now, ppl like saylor and big corporations who can buy 100s of bitcoin but small guy like me won't ever be able to collect even 1/10th of a coin but having said it will still 2x 3x far sooner than any mutual funds, etfs, stocks, so i continue buying :) Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: Don Pedro Dinero on September 28, 2025, 01:40:34 PM I think it's considerably less than 4% if we only take into account bitcoin ownership through personal keys. Not through a bitcoin ETF or any other vehicle for exposure to bitcoin. I've looked at the tweet, but it doesn't clarify anything else. I suppose it's a statistic, which, like all statistics, has a margin of error, but this aspect is not clarified.

Post by: bitbollo on September 28, 2025, 01:53:24 PM I am not surprised at all. btc and decentralization achieved are two concepts that are not easy to be understood.
Even 4% it's an huge amount of people if you consider how few people are able to invest money or just saving it! I think that this percentage could grow just a little in the next few years. Most of people will embrace bitcoin "inside" other products or maybe directly in their Nations. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: MinoRaiola on September 28, 2025, 02:26:23 PM Less than 4%, but that is still a lot of people. Okay, but when we see the +8 billion people in the world, than it is not much. Some of these people will never have the chance to own Bitcoin because they dont have a bank account or internet access. If you compare this with gold, then maybe +40-50% own gold, which is 10 times more than Bitcoin. In some countries, it is easier to own gold because they can mine it themselves and not need access to the internet. So if every second person owns gold and in the future only the half of them will chance it to bitcoin, then that would be a big change.

I suppose it's a statistic, which, like all statistics, has a margin of error, but this aspect is not clarified. For you. This article says something different by giving a number of only 1.29% of the world population owns bitcoins. It is only an estimation. How many people own crypto in the world? (https://coinledger.io/research/how-many-people-own-crypto-in-the-world) Quote 6.8 % of the global population holds crypto assets. 1.29% of the world’s population owns Bitcoin, or about 106 million people. How do they get that number? Let's see Quote What percentage of people own Bitcoin? For more details you can read that article.First of all, we want to explain that any count of Bitcoin users is based on estimates, not direct measurements. Bitcoin is a decentralized system that doesn’t track individual identities. One person can hold multiple wallets, while large exchanges often store funds for millions of users in just a few addresses, making it impossible to link wallets directly to real individuals. Nevertheless, we can still estimate the number of Bitcoin users by combining on-chain wallet data, reported user counts from major exchanges, and survey-based research on global crypto ownership. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: Findingnemo on September 28, 2025, 02:38:10 PM 4% is not a bad figure though, and implies that we are still in the early stages of Bitcoin. Imagine how big the price tag will be if this goes to, say, 40%, and how fortunate we were to know about Bitcoin as early as possible.

Post by: Btcdeybodi on September 28, 2025, 02:55:58 PM Remember that bitcoin has not gotten global adoption and there are many countries that doesn't even own a single bitcoin. The world population is large and i can tell you that 4% of the world population is large and even having up to 4% of those that owns bitcoins shows that bitcoin's adoption is growing among individuals and countries. Considering how bitcoin was introduced in 2009, it is a success to know that almost 4% are holding so with time the adoption will grow higher and we will reach the era of massive adoption as we are hoping. You should understand that despite the growth of bitcoin over the years, many are still in doubt and are even waiting for more global recognition before they can invest in it but do we even need to worry about who buys bitcoin and who do not buy? i don't think it's necessary, the impressive thing now is that we are have been able to identify bitcoin and believe in it's future growths which means that if we hold for a long term we will reap the higher dividends that will be gotten from our investment in the digital currency.
Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: BitBakerr1 on September 28, 2025, 03:58:45 PM The information you saw on Twitter that you posted here that less than 4% of people in the world owns Bitcoin is very true, a lot of people in the world has not started investing in Bitcoin even with the level of popularity that bitcoin have gain and the reason why you are thinking that it should be more than that is because you are investing in Bitcoin and you are around people who are also investing in Bitcoin being in this forum will make you feel that the world are investing in Bitcoin not knowing that it is just few% of people that are investing in Bitcoin.
This is a sign that Bitcoin will become more big in the future because I'm very sure that more people will invest in Bitcoin in the future, just imagine that in the future 50% of the world population or even 30% of the world population start investing in Bitcoin I believe bitcoin will get to $2 million if that happens. Those who know about bitcoin now are still very lucky and should take this advantage to accumulate as much as. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: ₿itcoin on September 28, 2025, 04:21:13 PM Owning 4% of BTC may seem like a small amount to some however for a 16 year old financial system, it is huge, right? Theres no other example of a financial system starting from zero value achieving such a feat in just 16 years. As the price of Bitcoin rises, millions of people are already waking up & moving towards mass adoption.
I really like philipma1957’s figure. But the average lie is that whales, exchanges & institutions hoard, so most people have to think about owning fraction, holding a full 1 Bitcoin is now beyond the reach of most people. That is why targeting 0.1 BTC as a personal goal is a smart, realistic flexibility In fact, I would say that sitting behind the hype or the math will not help, unless you start quietly staking now, it will be impossible to even acquire 0.1 Bitcoin in the future. Bitcoins adoption curve is just beginning & we are on the journey towards 1 million. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. I honestly believe there could be more people who hold bitcoin but I agree that those who are not holding yet should consider doing so. Those who have been holding bitcoin is a testament to how beneficial it can beMost Articles like this usually clarifies the information or data by saying it’s an estimate and seriously this estimates has a large Margin gap between it and a real number, the data is drawn from the available number of bitcoin on addresses, since addresses are actually public you can see them and it has nothing to do with decentralization or privacy. The major problem though is actually the fact that multiple wallet addresses can be owned by one person. The HD wallet itself allows many or multiple addresses to be accessed by one master private key and a user can actually holds bitcoin on many of the addresses and this addresses might be calculated during research for one person. So Ideally I think the number of holders should even be less than this estimate. But regardless this is an eye opener to people that even now is still early for bitcoin. Wrapping up is correct. raping up is a crime. and 4% of 8 billion is 320 million only 20 million coins are mined at least 2 million are lost. thus 18 million coins are owned by 320 million people or 18/320= 0.0563 btc for the owners on average So your goal as an owner should be to own at least 0.1 coins Is Satoshi personal bitcoin holding of averagely 1 million bitcoin also added to the 2 million bitcoin lost, even though it is not technically suitable to call it lost since it is still on a spendable address but for this discussion should be in that category Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Imagine how big the price tag will be if this goes to, say, 40%, and how fortunate we were to know about Bitcoin as early as possible. Not necessarily, 4% is still a great number (320 million people as @philipma1957 mentioned), so even though it might appear that we're in early stages, it's still a great number of people. Keep in mind that there isn't a "goal" to reach 100% or anything remotely close, I'm personally speculating that even 10% sounds a lot and may be unachievable, even in the long-term. The more time passes, the harder it's going to be for someone to be involved in Bitcoin, although we might soon enter the bear market and notice a major crash in value in the next 1-3 years, which might introduce new investors, but may also discourage others.Keep HODLing..! As @philipma1957 also mentioned, kudos to her for her quick calculations, if you have more than 0.0563 BTC, then you have more than the global average. 0.10 is currently a decent amount of money, but I'll go ahead and claim that anyone with over 0.20 BTC is likely to yield great results in the upcoming 5 years. But that's doesn't mean that we who are just getting started and have not accumulated enough should give up and start saying that we are too late, because we are not providing we are committed and consistence in accumulating bitcoin until will accumulate a good portion of it and then hold for long term. I would say that he is not wrong for saying that it's not really early, but you could say that it's not too late, these are two different things when put in context. The things he said are correct, because those who bought at the early stage managed to gain wealth through it, wealth that no one could ever imagined can be earned from the internet, or at least not by buying or mining and then holding a coin that doesn't have a physical existence, and didn't even have any name at that time. Those of us who buy right now, even if we will only be among the 5% of world's population to do it first, we will still not be able to get that good results from our investments, but as the guy said, it's still better than other investment assets or options out there, so we still do it and we know that it is at least going to give us good profits in a decade or so. Numbers also show that adoption is very unequal with North America at 10.7\% and Africa at only 1.6\%. You are right to encourage people. When so few people own Bitcoin it means there is huge chance for future growth. Because current adoption rate is so low it is still early for anyone who wants to start investing.

Bitcoin is trading at over $100k and has a market cap of over $2 trillion, it is clearly no small coin and we are no longer in the early stages. And the number of Bitcoin users will increase more in the future, because many treasury companies and Bitcoin holdings are seen in abundance at the present time, and the demand for Bitcoin is also increasing.
The more the demand for Bitcoin increases, the more the number of Bitcoin users will also increase. So the further you go into the future, the more Bitcoin users you will find. Most people still do not know how to use Bitcoin, and most people are still afraid to use it because they are completely ignorant about its use, setting up a wallet and security. However, the situation is gradually improving. People are slowly learning to use Bitcoin. According to the prospects of the future, those who will use Bitcoin now will definitely benefit the most in the coming days.

Post by: BitGoba on September 29, 2025, 06:24:09 AM Its interesting that people in Latin America or Africa tend to hold U.S. dollars to protect themselves from their highly inflationary local fiat currencies. For example, in Venezuela there is strong demand for dollars and USDT tokens. In contrast, people in North America often prefer to hold Bitcoin as a more stable and harder form of money, protecting themselves from the dollar, which experiences about 7–10 years of continuous inflation.
People in North America are generally much more financially literate, so Bitcoin is more popular there, while in many other regions people still don’t fully understand what Bitcoin is. They often confuse it with various “shitcoins,” pump-and-dump schemes, and other scams. We are still at the very beginning. Most people have heard of Bitcoin, but don’t really understand it. Over time, more and more people will grasp. I believe the biggest wave of adoption will come after the 2032 halving, when Bitcoin surpasses one million dollars at that point, many people will finally realize what Bitcoin truly is. Post by: Altryist on September 29, 2025, 06:59:07 AM Despite seeing so much prosperity of Bitcoin, if we talk based on the acceptance of all the people in the world, then only 4% of people have accepted Bitcoin, which is a small part of the total population, so the potential of Bitcoin is very high. I think the early stages are already behind for Bitcoin. Now that it has surpassed $100k and countries are considering creating their own Bitcoin reserves, this is already the stage of establishment, and those who don’t have Bitcoin now will think it’s already too late because it has become too expensive. And when you tell people that Bitcoin can be bought in parts, it rarely convinces anyone, because in the end they still look at the current price of Bitcoin.Within this 4% of users, some places have more users and some places have very little. It can definitely be said that those who are investing in Bitcoin now are also in the early stages. https://talkimg.com/images/2025/09/29/UQ9vz3.jpeg https://cointelegraph.com/news/solana-price-down-29-2025-liquidity-surge-us-crypto-stockpile Right now, Bitcoin is becoming an investment asset that has attracted the attention of big players, this is already a completely different level, while retail is now more fascinated by altcoins, because they believe in the altseason. And I think this trend will continue in the future. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: betswift on September 29, 2025, 07:09:59 AM The truth often hurts, and while those statements may seem discouraging, they are the truth and we need to accept reality. Bitcoin is trading at over $100k and has a market cap of over $2 trillion, it is clearly no small coin and we are no longer in the early stages. It's not too late to invest in bitcoin, but the idea of getting rich quick or getting rich with a small amount of capital is no longer true even if you hold it for the next 50 years, let alone 5 or 10 years. Bitcoin can't go up by thousands of percent, giving us x100, x1000 profits anymore, let's be realistic. It won't give such x's, but it's still the stablest and greatest coin, performance-wise too (even though, of course, it doesn't pump like a meme or so). Surely, the early stage of BTC can be said to be gone, but we need to act with what we have at hands. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Just like this in statistic, 68% of people only have <$10K, 22% of people have $10K-$100K. Average people place Bitcoin as their last investment because it's high risk, they will prioritize lower risk investment. Even these 96% of people invest in Bitcoin, I think it won't really drive Bitcoin significant, probably the price will double or triple from the present. Not 25x from the current price. https://imgvb.com/images/2025/09/29/b097b55d5170e54413ef588bad4304af.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distribution_of_wealth Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. That's how you stay poor. Sure, those who bought Bitcoin super early made a killing. They were visionaries and got lucky. But obsessing over Bitcoin's past and wishing you'd bought it at $20? That's just feeling sorry for yourself, not being smart about money. What others made then doesn't matter to you now. The point is, even now, a well-known asset like Bitcoin could still give you a 5x or 10x return in the next ten years. And if you don't think a 10x return is a ton of money, then your expectations are way too high. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Bitcoin has many advantages; its scarcity, supported by halving events, its borderlessness, and its ease of unrestricted transactions anywhere in the world. I am sure there are many more benefits to Bitcoin, but I will focus on just a few. Besides that, every time Bitcoin increases, especially to a significant value, there will always be people who say "it is late" or "it is too late", I am sure they will say that even when Bitcoin increases tenfold from its current price, and it will be something like; Bitcoin price $100 = "Late" Bitcoin price $1000 = "Too Late" Bitcoin price $10k = "Very late" Bitcoin price $100k = "Finally too late" Bitcoin price $1M = " ??? " By the way, a few months ago, my parents sold all the gold they had saved up or they held in long term, and they ended up with about $60,000. I think if my parents had saved in Bitcoin instead of gold, I am sure it would be much more than $60,000, maybe even at least $300,000. So, I want to ask you a few questions: Do you think gold isn't owned by many large corporations? Can't even a small number of gold buyers profit?. I hope you will find the answer after some careful consideration, and I hope you understand the meaning of my questions. Well, my advice to you is, you should consider that it is never too late to invest in Bitcoin. All you need to do is try to earn income wherever you can, then set aside some of it for savings, and invest it in Bitcoin. If you do, trust me, you will be very grateful in the future. Here in my country, only 5,4 million individuals invest in variable income category of investment, corresponding to more or less 2,5% of the country's population. Proportionally thinking on global levels, Bitcoin is almost two times more popular than variable income in my country.
Considering Bitcoin is decentralized and an outsider compared to mainstream investments (like variable income), it's quite popular already. The point is that people in general aren't used to invest money, so don't expect that percentage to increase a lot any time soon. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: free-bit.co.in on September 29, 2025, 03:03:48 PM pretty sure a lot of the ogs just went back to bitcoin after they had sold some since they have seen the ups and downs of bitcoin and got many opportunities to buy again even at a cheaper price well at least i would hope that that’s what most of them did because if i sold bitcoin at a cheaper price and i just watched it rise in value, i’ll regret it a lot If you feel regretful for selling your bitcoins cheaply and are not satisfied with what you have achieved. You will probably regret it for the rest of your life even if you sell it for $1 million or $10 million because the price will continue to increase over time. The future is unpredictable and the opposite can happen too, so set clear goals and be happy with what you have achieved. Don't be too greedy because sometimes you will pay a high price. Also, as long as the market is still there will be no shortage of opportunities for us, so there is no need to feel regret if you sell at a lower price. But when it has reached $100k, they all have thought that even going with the former ATH on 2021 which was $69k is a good entry point. And so, think of the next cycle if they enter now or by next year when the price is likely to reach a new high by the next cycle. Though we can't validate on how much it will be and how many multipliers we'll get by that time. Bitcoin is gradually growing in adoption, and it will come to a time when bitcoin will gain wide spread adoption and interest and eventually the number of holders will definitely increase. I believe with time the number of people that will hold bitcoin will surpass the number of people holding other digital assets, because when we look at the amount of profit that bitcoin has made for it's investors within the short period of time bitcoin has been in the digital market, no other digital asset including stock has made such profit. Only time will tell, because surely bitcoin will one day be recognized by the whole world and by then almost everyone will like to have bitcoin. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: boyptc on September 30, 2025, 04:20:49 AM Well said. pretty sure a lot of the ogs just went back to bitcoin after they had sold some since they have seen the ups and downs of bitcoin and got many opportunities to buy again even at a cheaper price well at least i would hope that that’s what most of them did because if i sold bitcoin at a cheaper price and i just watched it rise in value, i’ll regret it a lotIt's because that many of the early buyers probably have sold their Bitcoins when it has reached x5 to x10. And that's why even with the early advantage that they have, it's unknown on how many of them were able to keep most of their bitcoins. But it's greater if these early holders have managed to hold their bitcoins and didn't move an inch when the all time highs have appeared. That's why I understand those billions worth of bitcoin that have suddenly awake for this bull run if most of them were sold. But don't think of it as something regretable forever. Because if by the time that you've sold bitcoins too early and you have spent it wisely and it went to a beautiful purpose and cause, that has helped you. Although it is hard to remove that thought of regretting that you should have more by just holding but that's life, so move on and accumulate again. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: davis196 on September 30, 2025, 06:19:21 AM This data shows us two opposite things.
1.There's still plenty of room for growth. 2.More than 15 years after it's creation, Bitcoin still can't become fully mainstream and the BTC adoption is still slow. There are several factors, which stop mass BTC adoption. 1.Price volatility. This is what stops many businesses owners from accepting BTC payments. 2.Regulatory uncertainty. This issues has been solved in the USA, but such uncertainty remains in most parts of the world. 3.The BTC blockchain cannot handle billions of every day transactions(the so called scaling debate). 4.All the negative talk about Bitcoin being "used by criminals and terrorists". 5.All the FUD propaganda about Bitcoin being a bubble or ponzi scheme, which will collapse tomorrow or next week, next month or next year. The FUD and the negative talk will never end and we can't do anything to stop it from spreading. Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: Curious T on September 30, 2025, 06:47:39 AM yeah but by how much? even if btc reaches 200k the value of ur investment would be only 2x from now whereas people who got in really early, the real og bitcoin hodlers made a fortune so, let's stop saying we're still early. can we do that pls? we're late and we must accept it. its big boys games now, ppl like saylor and big corporations who can buy 100s of bitcoin but small guy like me won't ever be able to collect even 1/10th of a coin Bitcoin is only about 16 years old. It's still a minor in most countries if it were a human, so if a person starts investing in bitcoin today till bitcoin gets to 50 years, that's over 30 years of investing in bitcoin. With that, is it not safe to say this is still in the early stages? There are different stages of early. You can't compare yourself with the first set of investors. Big corporations will always have more than average individuals, even if they all invested at the same time. So it's fruitless looking at it from that point of view. You said the real bitcoin OGs made a fortune; that's true, but they didn't make that fortune just like that, they held their bitcoin for a long time, so if you also want to make a fortune, you need to hold for a long time as well. All the rest - well, we really can't beat the FUD if the people in question don't want to look at a broader picture themselves. BTC is the future and they will understand that eventually. So the OP quickly carried out some few research if it's really true that only 4% of the world population owns bitcoin and all the results came out to be true, and the OP created a thread with those information he got to pass an information and quoted those sources on that his post, so that those users who are good in research can do their own research to verify if true that only 4% of the world population owns bitcoin. So just do me a favour by saying things correctly next time.Title: Re: Less than 4% of the world owns bitcoin. Post by: Mr Reporter on September 30, 2025, 09:16:48 PM I think it's considerably less than 4% if we only take into account bitcoin ownership through personal keys. Not through a bitcoin ETF or any other vehicle for exposure to bitcoin. I've looked at the tweet, but it doesn't clarify anything else. I suppose it's a statistic, which, like all statistics, has a margin of error, but this aspect is not clarified. <...> I think we have to consider individuals holding Bitcoin through personal keys, the percentage of global ownership might indeed be lower than 4%. This method requires technical knowledge and involves managing one's own wallet. Estimating the exact percentage of global Bitcoin ownership is challenging due to the decentralized nature of the cryptocurrency. However, Don Pedro Dinero's point about personal key ownership is crucial. And still on th other hand, Bitcoin ETFs and other investment vehicles have made it easier for people to gain exposure to Bitcoin without directly holding the cryptocurrency. This has led to increased institutional investment and adoption. |
