I was scrolling through X today when I came across this post above which the post really got my attention, because of the caption on it, so  I was eager to carry out few research about it if it's true, because i was not expecting just less than 4% of the world population to only own bitcoin, I was expecting to see a more reasonable figure. But Despite the growing hype around bitcoin am still surprise that bitcoin adoption globally is still low and slow. And from the estimated bitcion ownership by continent north America leads the park with 10.7%, while the adoption of bitcoin in africa is still low just 1.6%.
Am now wrapping up with this word of encouragement and advise, that those individuals who have not yet get started with bitcoin it's still early for them, they can get started as soon as possible, because this space offers vast potential for future growth and many more.

am not really cool with the bold words on your comment above, because they are word of discouragement, and am putting it to you that nobody is too late to start accumulating bitcoin, provided they accumulating it to hold for long term 4 to 10 years or longer and not short term. Normally there are no doubt that those OGs who first bought bitcoin at early stage when the bitcoin project was first launched are in good advantage. But that's doesn't mean that we who are just getting started and have not accumulated enough should give up and start saying that we are too late, because we are not providing we are committed and consistence in accumulating bitcoin until will accumulate a good portion of it and then hold for long term.

I am not surprised at all. btc and decentralization achieved are two concepts that are not easy to be understood.
Even 4% it's an huge amount of people if you consider how few people are able to invest money or just saving it!
I think that this percentage could grow just a little in the next few years. Most of people will embrace bitcoin "inside" other products or maybe directly in their Nations.

Less than 4%, but that is still a lot of people. Okay, but when we see the +8 billion people in the world, than it is not much. Some of these people will never have the chance to own Bitcoin because they dont have a bank account or internet access. If you compare this with gold, then maybe +40-50% own gold, which is 10 times more than Bitcoin. In some countries, it is easier to own gold because they can mine it themselves and not need access to the internet. So if every second person owns gold and in the future only the half of them will chance it to bitcoin, then that would be a big change.

Remember that bitcoin has not gotten global adoption and there are many countries that doesn't even own a single bitcoin. The world population is large and i can tell you that 4% of the world population is large and even having up to 4% of those that owns bitcoins shows that bitcoin's adoption is growing among individuals and countries. Considering how bitcoin was introduced in 2009, it is a success to know that almost 4% are holding so with time the adoption will grow higher and we will reach the era of massive adoption as we are hoping. You should understand that despite the growth of bitcoin over the years, many are still in doubt and are even waiting for more global recognition before they can invest in it but do we even need to worry about who buys bitcoin and who do not buy? i don't think it's necessary, the impressive thing now is that we are have been able to identify bitcoin and believe in it's future growths which means that if we hold for a long term we will reap the higher dividends that will be gotten from our investment in the digital currency.

The information you saw on Twitter that you posted here that less than 4% of people in the world owns Bitcoin is very true, a lot of people in the world has not started investing in Bitcoin even with the level of popularity that bitcoin have gain and the reason why you are thinking that it should be more than that is because you are investing in Bitcoin and you are around people who are also investing in Bitcoin being in this forum will make you feel that the world are investing in Bitcoin not knowing that it is just few% of people that are investing in Bitcoin.
This is a sign that Bitcoin will become more big in the future because I'm very sure that more people will invest in Bitcoin in the future, just imagine that in the future 50% of the world population or even 30% of the world population start investing in Bitcoin I believe bitcoin will get to $2 million if that happens.

Owning 4% of BTC may seem like a small amount to some however for a 16 year old financial system, it is huge, right? Theres no other example of a financial system starting from zero value achieving such a feat in just 16 years. As the price of Bitcoin rises, millions of people are already waking up &  moving towards mass adoption.

I really like philipma1957’s figure. But the average lie is that whales, exchanges &  institutions hoard, so most people have to think about owning fraction, holding a full 1 Bitcoin is now beyond the reach of most people. That is why targeting 0.1 BTC as a personal goal is a smart, realistic flexibility

In fact, I would say that sitting behind the hype or the math will not help, unless you start quietly staking now, it will be impossible to even acquire 0.1 Bitcoin in the future. Bitcoins adoption curve is just beginning &   we are on the journey towards 1 million.

Most Articles like this usually clarifies the information or data by saying it’s an estimate and seriously this estimates has a large Margin gap between it and a real number, the data is drawn from the available number of bitcoin on addresses, since addresses are actually public you can see them and it has nothing to do with decentralization or privacy. The major problem though is actually the fact that multiple wallet addresses can be owned by one person.

The HD wallet itself allows many or multiple addresses to be accessed by one master private key and a user can actually holds bitcoin on many of the addresses and this addresses might be calculated during research for one person. So Ideally I think the number of holders should even be less than this estimate. But regardless this is an eye opener to people that even now is still early for bitcoin.

Not necessarily, 4% is still a great number (320 million people as @philipma1957 mentioned), so even though it might appear that we're in early stages, it's still a great number of people. Keep in mind that there isn't a "goal" to reach 100% or anything remotely close, I'm personally speculating that even 10% sounds a lot and may be unachievable, even in the long-term. The more time passes, the harder it's going to be for someone to be involved in Bitcoin, although we might soon enter the bear market and notice a major crash in value in the next 1-3 years, which might introduce new investors, but may also discourage others.

As @philipma1957 also mentioned, kudos to her for her quick calculations, if you have more than 0.0563 BTC, then you have more than the global average. 0.10 is currently a decent amount of money, but I'll go ahead and claim that anyone with over 0.20 BTC is likely to yield great results in the upcoming 5 years.

I would say that he is not wrong for saying that it's not really early, but you could say that it's not too late, these are two different things when put in context.

The things he said are correct, because those who bought at the early stage managed to gain wealth through it, wealth that no one could ever imagined can be earned from the internet, or at least not by buying or mining and then holding a coin that doesn't have a physical existence, and didn't even have any name at that time.

Those of us who buy right now, even if we will only be among the 5% of world's population to do it first, we will still not be able to get that good results from our investments, but as the guy said, it's still better than other investment assets or options out there, so we still do it and we know that it is at least going to give us good profits in a decade or so.

I usually have a hard time understanding how this type of data are gotten because there are many people who still store their Bitcoin in centralised exchanges. These Bitcoin will be regarded belonging to the exchange and they will not be added according to the number of people that own them. Of we add those Bitcoin ownership that are in CEX, ot will be obvious that more than 4% of the world's population have Bitcoin.

I don't know how accurate this may be, but I know that if we could get up to this within just 16 years of bitcoin existence since its introduction, shows that we can get more better than this as the time goes by, anything is possible with bitcoin and the more we go the more people gets convinced about it's adoption and they join the more to increase on it's uses, this shows how bitcoin has been relevant and will still continue to increase in value and acceptability from the people, because there is more understanding of this currency than ever before.

That is great point that shows true situation for cryptocurrency despite all talk few people around world actually own Bitcoin. Your surprise that less than 4% of world owns it is reasonable but it highlights that this digital money change is just starting. Numbers also show that adoption is very unequal with North America at 10.7\% and Africa at only 1.6\%. You are right to encourage people. When so few people own Bitcoin it means there is huge chance for future growth. Because current adoption rate is so low it is still early for anyone who wants to start investing.
