Title: OReilly@FOXNews.com
Post by: Bitcoin-hotep on April 10, 2014, 02:17:31 AM
Yesterday John Stossel came on "The Factor" and argued about how safe weed is, so I think if he gets enough emails about Bitcoin O'Reilly might talk about it on his show.

Add your name and location if you want him to reply to your email on the air.

Most coiners are libertarian, soo... Kinda fighting a losing battle there.

No, the most vocal coiners are libertarian.

The "new paradigm" weirdos and the ones who think it will completely replace the dollar are but a drop in the bucket. The real potential for growth lies in the millions and millions of young people in America and other developed/developing nations worldwide.

Aside from the point: Real Libertarians don't watch Fox News. To their credit, they take a pretty neutral stance on a lot of issues. They don't impose their personal beliefs on others or sign them into law. On a political level, they don't really give a fuck about pot legalization or gay marriage or most social issues - they just defer those votes to individual states and rely on the constitution for everything else.

I'd have been okay with Ron Paul in office.

I'm not a hardcore libertarian but I do believe a lot in libertarian ideals. That said, fox news sucks, cnn sucks, msnbc sucks...If you watch mainstream news, you're just as f*cked as the guy who watches the other channel...

The LAST thing I want is to see what Bill O'Reilly has to say about Bitcoin.  He will make NO effort whatsoever to actually learn anything about it and will make a knew-jerk reaction based upon what he has heard so far, and most of that is probably FUD and just wrong.

Then, he'll report that as "news" and since he said it there will be that many more people that have to unlearn what they have been "taught", and only because "well, I heard Bill O'Rilly say"...

I love OReilly. He's the funniest dufus ever. It's hilarious to watch him struggle with understanding even the most basic facts in any subject. Him trying to get his head around bitcoin would be like watching a dog attend a math class.  :D

+1

He can also make the uneducated believe almost anything, even if it is totally wrong.  He is a master of sound bites and talking points but not of reality.

Think of the demographic.

Paranoid, anti government people.

Getting O'Reilly to present Bitcoin as an alternative to the "hitler muslim" president's controlled currency would get them on board, and increase bitcoin adoption.

In the end that's all that matters.

But they aren't ant-government. They're a mix.

They're pro-government for things they want to control (i.e. no abortions, no gay marriage, programs to help businesses, army/navy/air force/marines) but anti-government for things they don't want government controlling (guns, religion, programs to help the poor, programs to help workers).

Republicans control most of the money - why would they want to lose control? It would be a hard sell to get the rich to move to bitcoins. They know lots of other ways to make money that they understand.

So if a bunch of faux news viewers see a report on bitcoin (even on the unlikely chance its in a positive light) what's the upside? The amount that it would actually draw into bitcoin would be so tiny since many 65+ year olds have trouble with the computers and those internets, let alone the billclams or pitgoins or whatever they're called...you know those computer dollars

I'm a quasi-techie and only first learned about Bitcoin in early 2012 when the price was sub $20. O'Reilly is not new to talking about Bitcoin on his show. I'm eternally grateful for the seed that was planted that day. Had I not then watched his show; one of the only times I've watched his show ever; I would not likely be here (bitcointalk.org and financially free) today.

Somewhat unrelated; O'Reilly is a pretty entertaining watch, and Stossel has some good stuff on occasion. I don't watch any TV and rely on other to point to interesting tidbits.

Disclaimer: I was at an older family member's home and was casually watching. I am not a regular Fox News watcher.

ah, just like the rest, Dumacrats don't present facts, just half-truths and character assassination, FOX news is NUMBER ONE in the rating for a reason, they provide BOTH sides, I've watched those "other" "news" stations and all they do is complain about how they want to push their ideas on others and if those others don't change- they boycott, they bash, they lie ...etc.... smart people hold back emotions when debating, but for Dumacrats it is just 'hurry up and call them racist' and we can stop their FREE SPEECH .... obama called Bush unpatriotic for raising the debt by 5 trillion... only obama has raised it over 9 trillion dollars ,....thanks for transforming America into a third world nation, debt doubled, gas prices doubled, did you paycheck double? if you can say yes then you can comment on my right to FREE speech... good luck America...

Thank you, so few don't get this. Most people bucket everything into there own (usually wrong) version of a left-right divide, and then when you try to discuss anything with them will just assume every negative of their version of the "other side" and throw that at you. This is true of both sides. In general the libertarians I've spoken with are neutral on these left-right issues and focus primarily on not letting anyone (themselves, large governments, etc) impose their will on others. At the same time in general the lefties are much more likely to assume/throw at me a pile of false positions that I nor most people hold.

o'reilly has the number one news show, with average 409k viewers in 25-54 demographic. so the attack on his viewers is an attack on the majority...do you really think that you are better than most people? hint: you aren't.

he is always balanced, great show

I only watched O'Reilly once, couldn't care what his political views are but if he has a viewership why would anyone be against him discussing Bitcoin???

It's sad but it seems to be more common for people on the left these days to want to shutdown everyone not on "their side". This is true from not wanting faux news to discuss bitcoin, to calling those don't fully buy into global warming science "deniers" to shutdown all discussion (even if you assume the science is right there are still many flaws, but if you don't listen you'll never know them), to many other examples.

Anyone who reflexively says "we don't need those ignorant right-wing faux news watching a**holes" needs to look in the mirror to see what is wrong with much of the world today. From this thread there are many here.

I am sure a whole bunch of people here will say I have this backwards, but I've never seen any thread calling to block bitcoin from being discussed on MSNBC because they hate those ignorant backwards liberals, but you see this all the time the other way....

an attack on 409k viewers is the majority... you'd have to be braindead to make that argument. in other words, you'd have to be a bill o'reilly viewer.

besides, it's a false argument.. just because something is the most popular does not make it the best. quantity vs. quality.

Everyone Tweet @FoxNews & @OreillyFactor "I would watch the Factor if Bill wore a dress"

Also send it in Email.

The LAST thing I want is to see what Bill O'Reilly has to say about Bitcoin.  He will make NO effort whatsoever to actually learn anything about it and will make a knew-jerk reaction based upon what he has heard so far, and most of that is probably FUD and just wrong.

Then, he'll report that as "news" and since he said it there will be that many more people that have to unlearn what they have been "taught", and only because "well, I heard Bill O'Rilly say"...

if bill oreilly starts talking about bitcoin he will turn it into some kind of religious argument and we will feel like we are at church.

If someone watches Fox news on a daily basis I'm not interested in getting them into Bitcoin.

I'd have been okay with Ron Paul in office.

i'm not sure how many of of those wackos are around relative to everyone else, but i do know there are a shitload of them. i had an encounter with one guy who told me that bitcoin was going to overtake currency, and he linked me to a roger ver video that had little to do with his point.

I am not sure how many people sent in things about O'Reilly wearing a dress, but he isn't on tonight and he is being replaced by the Five, which is half men and half women. So I think FOX has been getting a lot of messages about dresses.

call me crazy, but i have a little more respect for bill o'reilly than i do for guys like glen beck, rush limbaugh, or any other republican/fox noise person. bill bullshits almost all the damn time, but he's good at audaciously spinning anything.. so, even if most of what he says is bullshit, at least he's smart.

Keep sending things in to him. And say things like "Did you Bitcoiners used to vote Libertarian" so he wants to talk about it.

o'reilly has the number one news show, with average 409k viewers in 25-54 demographic. so the attack on his viewers is an attack on the majority...do you really think that you are better than most people? hint: you aren't.

he is always balanced, great show

This is the funniest thing I've read all day. Thank you... ( I sincerely hope you're joking).

I swear I don't know what happened. I used to think it actually was fair, about 10 years ago but then it's been downhill. I don't know whether it all went to his head, he started buying the foxnews agenda, or I just got Smarter and can see the bias now.

oreilly is a sociopath and a bully. His only true agenda is to rant and rave and do it in the spotlight. I honestly think the guy would embrace anything that will keep his fanbase happy i.e. xenophobic sexist right wing alarmism.

Bitcoin would just irritate a guy like oreilly because he cant understand it and it threatens his current lifestyle.

Oreilly is just a talking head, he doesnt even rate a response from me most of the time. His fans on the other hand...they scare me

the less attention from oreilly we get, the better.

But if Bill O'Reilly said the word "Bitcoin" it would be on both the Daily Show and the Colbert Report later that week, and then probably on TYT and a few other places after that.

Liberals only want equality of outcome (results).
Conservatives only want equality of process (rules).

As a result, liberals believe it is ok if freedoms are constrained, just as long as there are no winners and losers.
Conservatives believe it is ok if there are winners and losers, just as long as there is equal opportunity.

All the hyperbole you see on msnbc and cnn aligns with fair outcomes. All the hyperbole you see on fox aligns with fair process.

I don't mean to completely disagree, but what part of Having Bill Nye talk about "If pollution changes things" (then the host arguing against him with the other person) and having Bill Aires on to debate the Liberal view is "Fair process"?

I am not a liberal (I do have some liberal leanings though), but most of what FOX does is nothing but partisan sniping.

For sure.

The only reason I'm okay with fox remaining on the air is it keeps The Daily Show in never ending material...  ;D

Isn't that a sad commentary on the world today - you actually get the real news from Jon Stewart and Comedy Central, while getting utter bullshit and lies from the sociopaths in mainstream media :-\

colbert takes more jabs at bill o'reilly.. seems like jon stewart is more friendly with bill.

the recent debacle when stephen mocked bill for suggesting we form a world coalition/mercenary group to fight ISIS was pretty funny. bill but hurt that stephen mocked him  :D
