My eyes got caught on bitvega.co.uk. I wouldn't suggest using It because it reminds me of a gambling site and nothing related with exchange. Something more original like mimex or bitrit would be the best options from the list for me. Just my opinion.

I was looking for "None of the above", but mimex was the only one that I halfway liked.

We have another name which we in negotiation over. Not adding that atm.

britcoin.co.uk would be a cool name, but it already existed some years ago, and was then renamed to intersango.

I'd vote for Mimex. Looks fresh and unique. Not similar to the names of the other exchanges (such as BTC-E, Bitstamp and Bitinstant).

None of the names are good.

inbit.co.uk is short and sweet, so it gets my vote. The sort of word that's good for adverts "Get inbit!".

Its a multinational exchange, not just GBP but we have access to Faster Payments.

Not to mention that sounds like a local Bitcoins seller's personal sales site, not an exchange.

We feel good management and not running with funds is more important than the name.

I thought so myself, my personal two favourites are inbit and mimex.

There used to be a site called "britcoin" and the name was brilliant. They disappeared though.

That was a name we had thought of also. However its not a global name of the such.

They became intersango I believe

Surprise results so far

i am brit but i just chose one... i been in this bitcoin life for a short while, only a few months and one thing I have noticed is how hostile the British banking system is with BitCoin.  I noticed Bitylicious have to find people with bank accounts to survive and I noticed the lack of GBP > Bank Account possibilities, only other system i see is LocalBitCoins to get money back in.

If you are setting up here in the UK then good luck, I am aware of CEX as the only UK based business but I would possibly suggest opening up a dozen bank accounts unless you found a way of securing a good reliable way of using a bank account here.

I like Coinabit, because it contains Bit and Coin in the name.   8)

Yes, we have a couple of accounts. A third account is possible in the future, once volume has picked up. There are a lot of UK based businesses however the problem is getting the bank accounts.

Yeah not to be all negative and stuff but... I don't really love any of the options listed. I would definitely stay the hell away from anything with the word magic in it after the whole Gox nonsense...

Its fine, all opinions are valid.

Although its magic internet money, a phrase coined by many bitcoiners as opposed to magic the gathering.

I personally wouldn't avoid the exchange because of that name but I think some people have a negative association now with magic & bitcoin being used together. I personally never used Gox and thus didn't lose anything there so I'm not that sensitive to it.

Also, the "magic internet money" phrase is commonly used by detractors to shit on bitcoin and express that it's not "real" or concrete almost as often as it is used in good fun by bitcoiners. Just my 2 cents.

If I became aware of the 'magic' ingredient in the name, then I'd be inclined to think the site was run by slightly less than serious individuals. The 'ex' part of the name also suggests defunct to me.

We already had one Goxing enough for our Bitcoin lifetimes.

I don't think it is used by detractors. When I am asked to explain Bitcoin and I have no time it is the phrase I use, and it is used in /r/bitcoin's advertisements. I feel it is quite fitting.

However I can understand it could be seen as a Gox reference. But we can build trust, that's not an issue.

Understandable, we have another domain we are attempting to buy, which will be used definitely if that works.

Otherwise its most likely down to the popular vote.

Its the good type of magic, consider Gox to be Voldemort.

i did vote mimex but i knew nothing about the 'magic' that everyone is speaking about... if anything, that word stoodout.  I have been involved with brand-redesign over the years, its what's available but sometimes stating the obvious like localexchange.something  would standout more.

Bank accounts, very difficult as I have recently found out. Volunteer bank accounts is always something too look at tho.

MtGox stood for magic the gathering online exchange as it was original for MTG card trading.

And its a UK based exchange, so we are using UK banks and EU banks, the UK banks have already been secured.

Correct. Aside from offering Faster Payments there's also offering two factor auth, up-front and documented KYC/AML ID requirements, thinking about how to have the exchange audited, having enough customer support staff.

Those are things I care about, not what domain name you have.

Glad to hear it, yes we will be offering all of those things. Currently debating whether or not to force AML/KYC for sub £500 a week accounts.

Possible that we won't.

Hoping to do full proof of reserves also.

I think the problem with a lot of those names is they are a bit too "clever" if you see what I mean?

Also I am a Brit but I assume you are not targeting solely the UK market, a non location specific domain would be better, so .com or .net rather than .co.uk

So thinking about what traditional exchanges are called, and assuming that you are aiming for the professional, efficient market place what about something (boring but clear) like "Cryptographic Currency Exchange" or CGCE or CGCEx or similar?

Not just the UK, however we will be playing to the fact that we are a British exchange. The logo for example will reflect this.

Re. the branding/targeting I think there is a lot of pent up demand for a UK focused service - the transaction and F/X fees for the current exchanges really eat into funds - however, you probably need to tread a fine line between encouraging UK users and putting off non-UK users.

I think the line is fairly wide considering the only current option is a SEPA transfer which is 3% = £15. So accepting faster payments essentially puts you in the best possible position.

Apologies, perhaps I wasn't clear, I did not mean in terms of what functionality you offer but in how you presented and marketed the exchange. 

To take an extreme example, a site that went big on Union Jacks, Churchill and bulldogs would probably not appeal to, for example, continental European users.

I think the focus should be on the relevance of the services/functionality within each jurisdiction.  I suspect one of the biggest challenges for an exchange is volume and to achieve that you need the broadest range of potential users.

But certainly a GBP:crypto exchange supporting faster payments for UK users would be bl**dy brilliant.

The logo will reflect the fact that we are British, but not in such a way that it pushes away anyone else. Its more a joke at our own expense in some ways.

But yes, I somehow feel that faster payments will be a good thing for us.

Me too, it sums up bitcoin very well in a non-technical fashion.

The person I quoted was TradeFortress, a notorious scammer. Hence why I didn't react that way to the other person who said the same, I wouldn't speak like that to anyone else.

My second option would be coinserve, personally. Its a shame btalk doesn't allow polls with 2nd options.

Mimex has a fair lead here...
