With short spikes and drops in Bitcoin value happening on a daily basis do you see Bitcoin reaching its previous peak value and also do you see it exceeding this value by a considerable distance?

Nobody can give you an answer to this as it's all speculation, but I think it's likely to go above and beyond 1k eventually. It all depends on adoption so spread the word and get people talking and discussing bitcoin. If bitcoin even goes semi-mainstream I think 1k will be peanuts in comparison.

It is always hard to predict bitcoin value.
No one could imagine bitcoin price went from literally valueless to $1000 in 5 years and went from $1150 to $500 in 2 weeks. :)

Anyway, I have confidence in bitcoin and believe the price could be much much higher a few years later.

Surely a drastic rise will result in the need for a change of denomination though. I can't imagine an average person wanting to make a $1 purchase with 0.000001BTC, for example, it would just seem wrong

There are plenty of discussions regarding this issue but we already have the satoshi. For the example you gave 0.0000001 BTC = 10 satoshis.

I'm sure it will, but we can't go by them sort of price forecasting charts as they're not magical fortune telling devices.

I don't know If It will get "BIG"  someday but I'm almost sure It will go up to $1000 before even some how crashing to $10 ,  If It's a bubble It will pop one day but I don't think so, It should still have ups so people benefit from It :)

I don't care wether it's 1k this year or not. I'm looking at the bigger picture. I think or hope it'll be ten times this much in the near future.

If demand were to increase through the adoption of bitcoin by big retailers then surely that would massively outstrip current supply levels leading to a large increase in valuation

Give it time, the main thing is to get more adoption, businesses, and people using it.

The price will take care of itself once  Bitcoin is seen as viable to the masses.

I think it will go to $1000 or beyond within a few years period.  Price can go up and down in the meantime.

For the price to rise alot I think there will have to be a change with transation fees. What I mean is that if .001 btc becomes $100 a $50 transation fee would not work.

That's when you lower your transaction fee.

pretty sure we will go far above and beyond $1000 given time. with everyone recently talking about another bubble beginning though, part of me doubts that it will happen for a while. :)

Bitcoins is moved up mostly in long term period, This is not guarantee of course that it will do the same this time but it might specially with the relatively increased interest and press coverage.

That's the price we should be at today if the price followed a perfect regression line.  In theory anytime we are below the line BTC is undervalued and above the line is a bubble.  That is, if everything else remains constant.

These are very interesting charts. $6,543 in one year.. one can only hope   :) Bitcoin and litecoin will still be around, Im sure about that. Dogecoin forecast seems about right, I  dont think itll be used for much more than tipping.

I have to think that bitcoin will have another major bubble and will pass $1k by a mile. HOWEVER, i also think that this bubble may be a little further off than a lot of people think..

Does it really matter if it reaches a 1000 dollar? Probably if you want to invest.
But if you believe in the idea behind Bitcoin, just use it as much as you can, and tell everybody about it.

Most of those predictions are based on nothing or gut feeling.
In my opinion, a 1000 people can make a 1000 predictions, and sure one of them is right.

I think we may see $1000 bitcoins again in the second half of the year. Right now we are in a consolidation phase. I reckon bitcoins will be trading in a range between $400 and $800 for a few months.

I just don't feel that 2014 is he year of btcoin. We would need some massively good news so it would reach a big price again. But the whales pumping the market helped. Seems to be going up since then.

The BTC is aiming at reaching 2000dollars at the end of the year. In the last 4days I ve seen 10percent rise in the price of the bitcoin, and now every time i open preev i see a rise of 5dollars. It is soon gonna touch 1000 :D

I definetly see Bitcoin rising above $1000 but it's all speculation. If a major player (like Ebay/Paypal or other money processors) start incoperating Bitcoin the scenario will be a lot more likely. We also need to get people who are less techy involved into Bitcoin. Bitcoin needs to be simplified.

No doubt in my mind it will go above 1000 again probably in a few months. With company's like Paypal etc think of implementing its sure to give it a huge boost. Now I'm not so sure about 10000 and up like people keep talking about.

pretty sure we'll see 4 figures this year. 5 figures would be pushing it, in my opinion. but i am pretty confident that we will see well above the ATH this year. i am not quite confident enough to leverage long, but i am all in BTC right now.

We've already hit 1.2k so I really don't see any reason why we wouldn't hit 1k+ again. I think we might, maybe, possibly hit 2k, but we're almost half way through the year already and haven't gotten back to our previous ATH so I think that's a stretch.

Well, one reason we might not is for the same reason we stopped at $995 in January.  :)  $1k is a big psychological barrier. But I actually agree that if we get there on this rally, that we probably wont stop at $1k. Not sure that we will stop near $1200 either. We will see!!!

If PayPal and eBay actually implement Bitcoin like they are claiming they are looking into, that should break the 1k barrier easily. Also, if we make the move to "bits," as that removes the idea that "what? $250 only buys HALF a coin?" It would sound a lot better to say "$250 buys 500k coins."

Naturally there is no way to know. 

However, I think it will simply because bitcoin continues to go more and more mainstream.  Despite all the recent bad news and China banning it on a weekly basis the coin has not collapsed.  With only 12 million or so out there right now, only 21 million ever, and the Winklevoss fund going to hit Wall Street at some point, I think 1000 USD is easily possible.

Bitcoin is still not widely used, when they do, it will hit 1000+

As I have about $20 invested in any cryptocurrency ever, I'm not really one to care, but I feel the general trend for any new thing is that the value shoots up extremely high at first, then drops disappointingly low, and then repeats that cycle (but less intense) until it becomes mostly stable. And I feel like it'll hover around $750 (halfway between current "low" $500 and "high" of $1000) once it's stable, but you know? I'm not an economist, and even they are confused about the future of this.

As for me, I'm in for the long haul. It introduced me to cryptography and as a thank-you to the community I'll mine and stake and follow bitcoin/litecoin/altcoins as long as it's reasonably stable.

Pretty much so, because a lot of them are panic-buyers and panic-sellers.

When bitcoin started getting mentioned in mass media in late 2013, a lot of people buy bitcoin when they completely have no idea what bitcoin is or how bitcoin works, thinking they can't miss the opportunity and driving the bitcoin price up very fast.

When gox was down and when there were rumors about the China bans, they again have no idea and sell their bitcoin very cheap, thinking it is the end of bitcoin. :D

IMO it might actually do it, With the continuous adoption and less negative attacks bitcoins could reach $1000, Of course this might not happen too and anything related to prediction of bitcoin is difficult.

Anything can happen. It's rising now, so most likely my assumption is that it'll either reach or get close. But the market is unpredictable.

Well I see there are lots of predictions going on already regarding this, but this keeps falling and rising all the time so its really hard to tell. As far as my prediction is concerned I think it would definitely cross 1 k.

$1000 will be the bottom price in the next year for bitcoin, just look at the charts of btc from the start to today,
it will cross and break through 1000 without any doubt.

We're peaking at 5000 this year. Probably settle down to 2500-3500 after that. By the end of 2015, the bottom will be well over 10k.

It will goes to 1000$ may be at the end of this month. Yesterday it was about 650 $ from 450$ for 10 days so 30 days 300$ up is very possible :)

This time it looks more natural and thus should also be more stable.

at this moment we are with a $600 BTC so everybody is happy, but there are two way, the BTC will have a higher price or will fall again so we must be carefully in every single decision we make.

Bitcoin's projected value is anywhere from $100,000 to $1mil. For all you speculators out there, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but it's likely going to take 10 yrs (or more). IMO, cryptocurrency has a long road ahead of it, made even longer due to the speculators giving the general population a sense of mistrust.

According to the waves shown in history, we will likely hit comewhere around $5000 before end of the year. This might sound rediculous. Just as rediculous as saying it would go to $250 when at 40, and saying it would go $1200 when at $100...

Some guys (that have been correct about december bubble and predicted the bottom of april-may quite accurately) said that this updrend might be bubble that can raise to 1800-1990 dollars.

The analysis they did earlier were written in a way that it was like they were sure those numbers would appear. But now when they told it's going to over 1800 dollars, they wrote it like "it _might _ go that high".. first time i see then being uncertain about prices.

i agree. we are up against massive resistance at the 680-710 level, and we keep getting rejected. and there is a LOT of margin longs on BFX right now. when the bulls get tired enough, i think this could come down pretty hard.

We are higher than 50%, the all time high of BitStamp was 1163 according to bitcoinity, btc price is 660$ now.

ATH on Bitstamp was 1200ish.

Both bitcoinity and bitcoinwisdom say the ATH was $1163 for bitstamp...
We did have $1200+ on mtgox though.

Btchina was leading new high on last bubble. Their price is probably more accurate.

I'm almost sure bitcoin will go up to over $1000 somewhere in the summer and I try to invest into bitcoin as much as possible now (the fund I invest are free to lose or free risk) so I don't have any pain buying them  but It really has a potential I think and It's good to know that you have an investment that is very likely to double in  a month or few :)

There have been lots of accusations on Chinese exchanges faking data, and so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a "Willy bot" in btcchina. :)

Yes, I have long been suspicious of the volume transacted on the Chinese exchanges. OkCoin was more or less caught red-handed. But it did seem almost organic, the way that Huobi took all of BTCChina's liquidity when payment options were cut off.

$10k? It'll take a lot to get there. From the July bottom of the April 2013 bubble to the November 2013 top, it was about 19x. Same magnitude here puts us at about $6500. $10k is certainly not impossible in the not-so-far future, but we've built up a hell of a lot of resistance at the $1100 and below levels.

1000$ is a realistic price and we will reach it in some months or sooner, 10000$ is still an ipothetical value which btc should have during 2015 or 2016.

With bitcoin's volatility, there is no reason why we can't do it in 2014 (or why we wouldn't have to wait until 2020 either). Who knows? It's all pure speculation at this point.

Incoming? Are there plans for more merchants to adopt that you have heard of? DISH is big, but that's got to be cooked into the price by now, I would have to think.

The trend is already set, more and more mega companies jumping on board and we are still very early at adaptation phase.

Don't think it should be too long now, larger companies are now accepting bitcoin as payment which can only be a good sign.

Sure, it could be thought of as a "dump." But some, possibly most of those coins, if still in circulation, likely would have made their way to market anyway. It's hard to say what off-exchange demand is like -- there could be a lot of players looking to get in with no slippage.

It don't believe it will happen before the next block halving.
For now, there's about 3600 bitcoins created everyday by miners. At 1000$/coin, that would be a 3.6M$ daily inflation; this seems huge for a new technology. I'm not sure the market can sustain that.

The given answer depends on the point the person is at.
If he wants to buy your BTC cheap speculating on a rise, he might act otherways then telling you straight out -> yeah it will go up.

True, but bitcoin tends to surprise very much in both directions. When has it gone sideways for too long? I have a feeling we will rally soon. But if it's a fakeout and we can't get above $1k/in range to test ATH, we will probably go back to retest $340. Just my two cents. :)

It's a catch 22.  If BTC is expected to go up rapidly, people won't spend their coins.  Non usage of coins leads to less adoption and less demand and then lower price.

Less coins in circulation would mean a lower trade volume, this is quite bad for investor.

They would not want to put money in something whose volume could not support them being dumped on by some of the many big holders.

The reason it has any value is because it can be accepted and used a currency legally in some areas.  If Litecoin were to be accepted by Amazon tomorrow it's price would shoot up even though the coin's difficulty and distribution stay the same.

It's safe to say though that it's difficulty would skyrocket almost instantly if it's price would shoot up. Litecoin would drain hashpower from all the other scrypt coins, and thousands of scrypt asics would be bought as it would be profitable again to mine.

IMO, with more people spending bitcoin and more merchants accepting bitcoin, the price should go up in the long term. But in the short term, the price may go down, as most of those bitcoin-accepting merchants use bitpay or coinbase to sell the bitcoin right away.

I'm almost sure of it. now with so many organizations beginning to adopt it, I'm sure it will mainstream soon.

I don't think so either, considering that 3600 new Bitcoins are produced daily. The inflation is still too high to sustain, imho, a price over 600$. Especially since most of these coins are sold as soon as they are made by big mining farms.

There is a great chance it will cross 1k soon but it won't be abrupt,It will rise slowly with daily Intervals.Abrupt Rise and Falls can damage the economy of Bitcoin.Bitcoin has lot more potential than now.

From the past experience, it seems to me block halving has only a small effect on price.
Bitcoin block reward halved from 50 to 25 on Nov 28, 2012 (block 210000), and the price was pretty stable from Nov 12 to Jan 13...

It's hard to say when it gets "baked into" the price. I would think that the effect would be mitigated by the fact that the market knows it's coming. But at some point, supply dynamics really start to change, and less coins make their way to exchanges.

Guys bitcoin will only fall for now and will rise once a Quantum Computer is created. Half of quantum computer problems have been solved so now its few years from now. The day this Computer comes in market the difficulty will rise like rocket and price will goto 100K$ :D

To everyone who is currently panicking because of the recent drops: Don't trade on emotions! This almost always will get you into serious trouble! Make up your mind and think about if Bitcoin is really over. People have thought this for years and most of them would be in the black numbers if they just waited and held their coins. I have no idea how quantum computing will change bitcoin mining, but I don't think there is a close relation between difficulty and price.
For example, the difficulty is now 15x higher than last Dec, but the current bitcoin price is just half of the price back then.

Well, we've gone from the point where you could (reasonably) mine with your computer, to mining with graphics cards, to dedicated add-in boards, to full-blown stand-alone ASIC miners. And the technology has moved surprisingly quickly from the old 130 nm process to what is essentially the state-of-the-art 28 nm process, so from that standpoint, we're close to tapped out.

Well, after everybody is on only the latest and greatest hardware and the difficulty jumps once more to the point where the hobbyist can't afford to hang w/ the huge data-center-based farms. And then, soon after, it starts drying up for them (after some consolidation, I imagine), who is going to be willing to spend tens of thousands of dollars a month on mining operations when it's simply not profitable to do so?

And if no one is mining, (because it's insanely expensive), how does bitcoin continue to function?

Bitcoin market is still very small in the grand scheme of things.

Even in the scenario you described, I don't think it is the end of the bitcoin world.
People in different location pay different electricity cost. If you are in a high electricity cost location, you will stop mining sooner, which will make the difficulty go down and make the mining profit higher for the other miners.
So, those with the newest miners and lowest electricity cost will have no problem mining.

I think Bitcoin will reach (and surpass) $1,000 either later this year (hopefully) or perhaps sometime next year. I will be VERY disappointed if it isn't over the $1,000 mark by 2016.


I think difficulty depends on the hash power of miners as well as the number of miners. So the introduction of ASICs in 2013 greatly increased difficulty, for example. So did the transition from CPU to GPU mining and the flood of new users in mid-2011 when Bitcoin first became mainstream. I'm not sure why the difficulty is so much higher today compared with December 2013 though. Everyone mined with ASICs back then and it's still the same situation today. Perhaps it's because there are more people mining nowadays (I think a lot of people became interested in Bitcoin during and immediately after the November spike - myself included) or maybe it's because the power and efficiency of mining equipment has improved since then.

Yes I believe it will reach $1000 maybe even over within time but being able to predict exactly when is impossible this early on. I would like to see if happen in 2015 but again predicting this early on is something we are unable to do, it could go either way.

Yes, there is the psychology behind it. Many of those who bought in late 2013 and early 2014 at $1,000-$1,200 will see that the price has risen back to four digits, feel relieved, and sell.

I believe that these kinds of people who are prone to panic-buying might actually buy more at that price, since they might think that their coins are finally in a rocket to be worth 10000$. Or they have panic-sold already.

No doubt in everyone mind it will bit 1000 again.

There is a big ass invisible buy wall by everyone that missed the boat. Big FIAT holders are wanting to get on the BTC game and get a juicy position before we reach mainstream adoption. This is an interesting debate. I have wondered if there is another coin right now which could replace Bitcoin due to slow confirmations. Honestly though, Bitcoin is the only coin that I see getting real support and traction in the industry in terms of atms, and actual large companies accepting it like Expedia for travel, etc. Are there other coins that people see getting powerful industry support?

Bitcoin is the topmost coin, in considering everything except transaction time but I think its natural. Litecoin is coming somewhat near. It isn't accepted in large companies but is accepting by medium companies which may change in future. I still don't think it can replace BTC but can be nearer or equal to BTC.

Despite the trickle of positive news and slow but gaining acceptance, the mainstream still doesn't know what Bitcoin is.  And the ones in power that do, are trying to regulate and hold it back.

Still waiting for the "spark" to happen, that domino effect, or most importantly network effect.  Part of me feels it can happen at any moment soon, another part of me thinks there's a possibility it may never come.

How much people are willing to pay for a Bitcoin and how much people want to have for one. But we've been here before, people thought 'that's it, it's never going to get that high again' and whooops, there came another bubble.

Crises are often in some way man made, especially when politics are involved. I say take them out of the equation and have decisions be made in a peer to peer fashion to solve this issue.

It might still be too soon, though. Imho, inflation is still to high right now to sustain a price higher than 1000$. At that price, 3.6 million dollars of Bitcoins are produced everyday, with most of them dumped by big mining farms.

I don't think there are enough buyer to sustain that, especially since a few altcoins are popular at the moment.

Calculation - If price goes up from $600 to $1000, the profit is $400/$600 (~67%) and not $400/$1000 (40%).

I think the chances of >$1000/BTC are very high.    Other than rapidly spreading mindshare of concept, Bitcoin's pervasiveness in terms of people actually using it isn't very deep yet.  I think even a single major event, e.g. launch of the Winklevoss ETF, easily has the potential to start another massive rally.

I think a much more interesting question is how the market might respond *after* the next big rally.  Something intuitive tells me that with each new bubble, the rapid changes in systemic input/output tests the limits of market stability.  I'm concerned that another rally of similar proportions might cause irreparable instability (e.g. we rally, then we crash but can't recover). 

It is interesting to see people viewing bitcoin completely different from other assets.
Some in the speculation forum even expect a 10x increase in a year easily...

We're currently at a very difficult moment for Bitcoin. It's interesting to see that there are people who say that USD $1000 is a sure thing, and other say bitcoin will ultimately fail completely. Difficult times, indeed!

It's not reacting to news at all; whales have simply stopped pumping it in order to buy cheaper coins, and this triggered a chain-reaction of panic selling.

I really do hope we reach $1000 I've been heavily investing recently and need it to pay off....I'll then sell for profit and then reinvest all of it into Bitcoin until I have enough to live my life off Bitcoin.

The price of Bitcoin is around $540 right now, and I believe it will pop right back up shortly to $600-$650. Later on (about October) the price will more than likely start making another upward move to the $800 mark. I do think we will reach $1000 again , but there will have to be a significant change to make the currency more acceptable to the general public.

There were 144000 of them, so it's likely that the auction price will be even lower.

1000$ is really a low price for bitcoin, it will reach values much more higher than that.

If it didn't, I'd be shocked, but as other replies have stated, it's all just speculation. I still say that the million dollar bitcoin is still plausible. The only question is how long will it take to get to those values?

Bitcoin can easily get back up to $1000 in the near future, it's just too much going on around the news that isn't letting it.

Its just a matter of time before this happens.
Just look at several things like spreading that is increasing day by day, bitcoins that are getting lost daily, and most
importantly, there is alot of profit to be made on bitcoin, so there are many people that will do just that, but to make better profits, the price must be lowered first.
Its just like altcoin pump and dump, but time scale isnt days, its months. Just have patience, it will be worth it.

BTC to $1000 is the dream of every cryptocurrency trader, however this is very achievable if we all stop to dump our coin.

The price is dropping significantly now, so it will jump up in price. There may be a chance to reach $1000, but It will more than likely be in a year or so.

I'm sure It will reach but when, I actually have no idea when It will happen, we need some major news, like big companies adopting bitcoin, then It should rise a lot and fast.

A month ago when bitcoin price was above $600, I expect it will reach $1000 later this year.
A month later, bitcoin price was slightly below $500 now, and I am still having the same prediction. :)

That also depends on how well other crypto coins do.  It also depends on how well crypto currency in general can compete for the market share of currencies and financing.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a BTC surge well into $1K again but then again if other currencies made advances into what BTC has alread accomplished then it could very well be other coins with big advances. 

1000USD maybe by next year(Jan - Feb), i think a new bubble will form around Late oct, - Early nov. If nothing happens after Oct. then there's a possibility of not seeing $1000 till next summer - fall.

We need to identify a new group of cashed up investors or speculators who haven't yet been tapped.  We've tapped the Chinese, and many got burned by the fall in bitcoin and collapse of litecoin.  Previously we tapped the speculators in Europe and North America.  We've had plenty of large internet businesses say they're accepting bitcoin, so that's all priced in already. 

What's next?  How do we convince, for example, Japanese retirees to dump their yen into bitcoin?  With a government debt to GDP ratio of 250% and increasing it's only a matter of time before Japanese retirees' savings are eroded away by a collapsing currency.  It might be in 5 years or 10, but it's inevitable.  Once the collapse starts it's too late to act (currency controls, bitcoin being ruled illegal, bank controls, etc).

Don't think there is any sucker with deep pocket left beside mutual fund managers.

I think wall street and retail investors will be next to invest in bitcoin in mass, causing the price to skyrocket once again. Once the BTC EFT is launched and able to be traded on the stock market, I think that a lot of people will buy and invest in bitcoin as it would become a much more mainstream investment.

I believe it will see $1000 at some point again, yes. But I wouldn't bet on it to do this in 2014 still. I guess it could be well into 2015 or maybe even later that we see those prices again. I guess we're in a long phase of consolidation and technological development now!

Probably, but who knows when. Just look at recent price history, it could happen really fast, in 1 month or less. But it can also take years. Be patient, it's just a matter of time.

Yep I agree but... the problem is that mining has became so polpular and there are so many new deployments of new designs...  It reminds me of the situation we had in 2011 when the costs of mining went higher than the BTC mined. History likes to repeat itself in cycles. We may see another downfall, 'death of bitcoin' titles in the press etc. I agree that long term BIT is the winner or at least some other coin (besides LiteCoin actually QuarkCoin is my favourite because of it's speed and very clever approach to the economy). Sufficient to say that once BTC goes higher all other cryptos will follow. I am sure the future for cryptos is bright.

The price has been holding up at 400$ + for most of the year which is an amazing price and some kind of equilibrium that takes into account the potential and the reality of adoption

Bitcoin will never again be more than ounce of gold. I'm by no means a gold bug, but it's the psychological barrier it cannot break any more. Considering gold is currently in a bear market and soon to be sub $1000 there's an answer to your question.

If you believe in bitcoin why would you put your money on a paper wallet and store it in a vault? If you believe in bitcoin, use it to buy and (maybe?) sell things with. Also, I don't really see bitcoin taking off for real until people are paid wages in bitcoin. I don't mean a few token cases that are synthesized just to show it can be done, I mean as a practical solution, even if it is niche.

People are not paid wages in Gold (they will again soon and we'll have the option to have bank accounts denominated in Gold) but all the Gold in the univers has a value of 7 Trillions that would be half a million per Bitcoin because Gold is a store of value and is useful and apreciated

No bitcoin will no grow to $1,000 per coin until people start doing something rather than hoarding them... If you put $10k worth on a paper wallet hoping it's a lotto ticket to get rich soon I am sure you will get burned just like almost everyone else who tries that technique
