Each miners comes with a barrel connector and a USB cord.  You can connect the barrel connector to a 12V 5A power source.  HP/Dell server PSUs are excellent for doing this.

I found this approach to be most efficient on windows:
1. download current cgminer from: http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/ unzip into a separate folder somewhere.
2. next, unzip and move the contents of the cgminer-win0.3.1.zip (from rockminer) into the folder from step 1.  This will move and replace up to 17 files and will overwrite the standard cgminer distribution.  Now you have a cgminer version that will work with r-box.
3. run cgminer and hash.

I believe these are OC-able, based on the frequency parameters written out to cgminer config file.  But I have not verified this 100%  default freq is 270.  when I upped to 290, hashing rate ticked up slightly.  someone needs to test this more.
However, per RockMiner and as usual, OCing does invalidate warranty.

Asked via PM as well: Do these use 2.1mm DC barrel plugs - the same as the Gridseed Scrypt ASICs?

Don't think I have any faith in ASICMiner anymore after the cube.  I've bought multiple batches of 8 from you, and on the last batch I bought one was pretty much scratched up and not functional (http://imgur.com/5gZzFqh) but since it was your last batch and you have no replacement inventory I ask for refund on that one cube in which you responded with ship the damaged parts and you will replace it .. I did and then nothing.  So I've been stuck with the .39 BTC metal box.

You got a miner shipped to you, and I assume it was on time.  That makes AM and Canary better then what... 75% of mining companies right off the bat?  Canary has always been amazing from what I have seen.

RockMiner will be coming out with a blade-like product soon.  Hopefully by end of June, but I don't have official time frames and you shouldn't take my word as such.
The R-BOX product should not be compared to blade systems etc...

It is not strictly speaking a blade, this is dedicated for home miner like RBox. Unlike a blade this is not really fitted to have a lot and stack them, it is more a plug and play miner.

It is in design stage, it could be ready in a month if everything is OK.

Vidz shows 4x3x4 = 48 chips AM3 per miner so approx 400GH/s. Then miner screen shows 750GH/s for 2 miners, gives apprx 375GH/s , but some chips are missing on one board.
This would indicate around 400GH/s per X-Box. Power drawn should be around 460W at wall.

They're not as silent as R-box, but they're more powerful  :P

The last unknown is the price. For now, I have the feeling, about the timeline, it would be ready soon (2 or 3 weeks).

I think 400MH/s is a little low, perhaps 489GH - 510GH

Even in my highest assesments for XBox, HR is never upper than 430-450 GH/s. Also the power cons would be around 550-600 W in this area and above.
These are just assesments and my humble guess, will see what would be the official figures, and the final home using. Hope I'm wrong and HR will be very high, as price and power much lower ;)

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping for slightly better w/ghs that above. the Xbox should be able to be more efficient than the rbox given better otherparts to asic chips ratio. Price will be everything. Hopefully ~400 USD.

Keeping shipping times in mind, one should at least adjust for the difficulty change that is expected in ~2 days.  That's what is going to influence the ROI in Bitcoin, mostly.  If you're calculating for ROI in fiat, then it's time to break out some tea leaves and gamble whether the current upward trend continues or at least holds steady.

I am getting very good power numbers using a platinum psu a sea sonic 1200 watt high end beast  left over from gnu mining ltc.

about 64gh and 70 watts for 2 units.    that is about 32gh and 35 watts for one unit and they are really quiet.

My only complaint is the dc cords for grid seeds are too tight for this.

Another forum member claims they will support 12 Fury boards but I counted 20-12v ports (if I remember correctly)

To anyone thinking about buying these they are very quiet. 
They run very stable at freq 270.


They are under 40 watts on a seasonic platinum psu. 

They pulse their watt readings  my 2 read 68 to 78 watts on my k-watt meter. 

 I will have a breakout board in house soon and 4 more of these.
 I will setup the six on an antec 650 watt plat psu and give a very good set of photos and power readings on the six.

My hope for these is 6 = 192gh and 220watts with the plat psu

My big hope is someone figures out a undervolt underclock pencil method. like the s-1 thread on this subject.

I run 3 s-1's at 420gh and 563 watts.

If I could get 6 of these to do   162 gh and 150 watts It makes them worth more in the future.

At the  current price of 650 usd a  btc  and 15 cents a kwatt these still pay for power  up to Dec.

If under volting helps a lot they could pay for power until Jan /Feb

been messing around with rboxes... got 5 powered via the breakout board, then for the rest, I took the PCI-E 6 connectors for gridseeds
(from here: http://buyahash.com/shop/pci-e-6-pin-3-gridseed-power-plug-2-1mm-dc-barrel-plug/),

cutoff the 2.1mm barrel connectors and soldered on the 2.5mm barrel connectors that come with each r-box.

using platimax 1200 PSU, powered up 17 rboxes using 771 watts. 21 watts idle, so (771-21)/17 = ~44 watts each. running at almost 35 Gh/s each, freq=290

waiting for that cool 3d printed case for the BA

they run quiet.

edit:  I think using that pci-e 6 pin to 3 barrels is the most cost effective solution.  you probably have a psu already running something that has a spare pcie 6 connector, so powering up 3 rboxes is a no brainer and is THE simplest solution.  alternatively, if you have no available pcie6 connector on a PSU that is already on and running I bet you have a spare PSU.  the good ole paperclip solution + the pcie6 to 3 barrel connector is again most efficient and cost effective.  buyahash will make available 2.5mm barel connectors on the pcie6 connector soon if you don't want to modify gridseed plugs yourself.  it is fun however.

yeah the break out box is good if you want to run 6 to 10.

  If you want cables-pcie I am having cablez make 2 sets for me each can run  3 r-boxes.. When all gear comes to me I will show six run with the break out box and 6 run with the pcie adapters

my goal is to resell these in 3 packs on ebay.  what I want to be able to do is point new miners to a pool like bitminter.

I am hoping I can talk the good doc h into setting up a secondary pool  for solo mining.
 then tell people use 2 for normal pool mining and 1 for solo mining.

The current math for a month of mining with one of these doing solo is about a 1 in 610 chance to win a block.

  by the end of the month it will drop to about 1 in 1220.

amazing if you pull out the startup price of 210 bucks for 3  and only figure  your power cost  at 15 cents a kwatt  it cost you about 14.60 usd a month to run this.


the math is not too bad…..   you are far better off buying 3 of these  mining with 2 at a normal pool and 1 at  solo    then buying any usa 3 digits number

Not a good idea at this time... It's reportedly confusing the miner.  Could be how firmware handles higher frequencies

This design is still being modified but will offer greater modularity than what is shown in the above pics! Hoping to have a v2 printed this evening.

Note...I noticed temps dropped down to around 33 degrees using the mount versus 40+ degrees sitting on the desk/table.

that's pretty neat!  you can probably make an rbox "tree" like structure to go vertical (including wiring) it may even look eye appealing with all the blinking lights... :)  a Bitcoin tree of sorts

I  tell you what I am running close to 47 across the board on my six will side turn them and get back.


Okay my garage is attached to my house the car is pretty new so I keep the door to the house open this allows some ac to go into the garage

so :

it is 91 f outside my home
it is 85 f in my garage

the six pieces were 48C 49c or 50c facing up with room  between them and above them.

I side turned them and in under 5 minutes they all dropped 2-3 c   

All my  units are now side mounted like I did with my 5 chip gridseeds.   it seems that side mount is better.

interesting... that project to mount them vertically on a beam seems like a way to go then...

Yes maybe vertical is better,but  give me a few minutes I will take a shot of current mounting as  temps are now close to 40c with side mount.


Room temp in attached garage is 83.5 f

@ phillipma  I think my ambient temps are around 74 degrees Farenheit. My miners are near a door that stay open 99% of the time with a fan on them. The RBox miners closer to the fan run a tad cooler and yes, my temps raise up during the day. Avg temp is about 37-39 but placement of the miners is key as my #7 RBox miner is directly above an S1 and runs warmer than the rest of the bunch.

I was really impressed that my side mounted turn dropped from 47-50  to  37-41..

I think he works for the post office, lives either in it or right next door, and has a scanner thingie... I bought 1, emailed/pmed him and within an hour it was in the usps system and tracking already!!!    :o

while it is possible (probability is greater than zero), statistically it has terrible odds of happening.

32 gh is .001195 btc a day.  

 divide that into  25 = 20,920 to 1 for a 1 day run  at the current diff level.

run at the current level for the next 6 days   odds are  20,920 / 6 or 3486 to one.

any miner that plays the 3 or 4 digit numbers at the local lottery

rather then running 1 of these units at solo-mining is pretty foolish.

my frustration is no major pool offers this option with the exception of oz-coin's solopool.net   ..

  Since that pool's op had a major money issue  I do not want to use him and  running solo in house cost too much as I need to dedicated a pc to run as a server.
 I really want to offer these as 3 packs on ebay with an easy setup to run two in a standard pool and one as a solo miner.

Sadly no pool that I would trust wants to do this. So a good promo is lost.

If they were paid the coins. I mined a little there never hit a block but every email or question I asked them was never answered by them. so i stopped mining with them.   solo pool.net has a major op in ozcoin but he has had money issues  and I fear running there.

Actually, to do you calculation correctly, you'd have to actually compare it to the total bitcoin mined in a day, since you're using your daily output, not a block.  If we were averaging the spec of 1 block every 10 minutes, that's 3600 btc per day.   You're likelihood to mine 1 block would then be 3600 / 0.001195 or 1 in 3,012,552 to mine a block over the course of a day.  Estimated time to mine 1 block is actually 20,913 days at 32 gh/s as calculated here:

So your odds are worse than hitting a pick 5 lottery and better than a pick 6 (at least in NJ).  So you'd probably be better off pointing it at a pool than wasting the hashes trying to hit the lottery.

 




your math is wrong.   think about if you math was correct merged pool mining would not work at a profit and it does.


672 th mines 1 block a day at the current diff    672th/21000 = 32 gh


  so if a pool had 21,000 32gh r-boxes it would make 1 block a day   (perfect variance assumed)   

  this means 1 r-box is a 21000 to 1 shot at pulling a block  ……   it cost 15 cents to run it a day and you lose 68 cents in pool hash earnings.

  total of 83 cents……  so 83 cents gets you a shot at  25 btc = 14560 usd  .

      the odds to hit are 21,000 to one.   

no state 3 digit or 4 digit number pays that well    14560 usd for 83 cents  when the real odds are 21000


to repeat I am not saying it is easy to hit.

 I am saying it pays off closer to true odds. then any state 3 digit or 4 digit number. 

if you play 3 digit and 4 digit numbers and you are not playing an r-box at solo mining you are mathematically  making the wrong choice by far at todays diff and todays btc price.  a fact that you think is not true .

 The odds in favour of solving a block is expressed as the probability of solving a block over the probability of NOT solving a block. Which will come out to approximately the same as the probability because the denominator is so very large.
 Now you can multiply the probability by your hashing rate (32billion for the rockminer) and then by 86400 (the number of seconds in a day) and you will get the probability of solving a block with a rockminer on any given day.  If you want the odds in favour of solving a block on any given day with your rockminer, take that probability and divide it by 1 minus that same probability.

 Also, you can invert the probability  blockexplorer.com/q/probability (http://blockexplorer.com/q/probability) to get the average number of hashes required to solve a block.  Now you can divide that number by the hash rate of your device to get the average number of seconds required to solve a block.

 I think it's around 57 years for a rockminer...

    that is a payoff of 17891 to one on a 21000 to one shot. Plus you could hit 2 or more blocks.

Basically the r-box is a great piece of lower cost gear that would allow you  much better odds then any lottery.

I do not suggest that this is the only way to mine an r-box .  I do suggest mining your r-box this way some of the time.

I've been running mine on BFGminer, but they won't overclock to the promised 37GHs, they run comfortably along at 32GHs. Do you know if multiminer can get a little more out of them?

I think there are a few MM users that are running OC settings with good results. I have yet to see 37 Gh/s out of mine even when they were running on CrazyGuy's cgminer.

I range from 32 to 34 using  CC's cgminer  on btc guild.

biggest problem is  the dc jacks are off sized as compared to gridseeds.  2.5 vs 2.1mm

If you set them at 290 for the frequency, I get mine running around 35Gh/s comfortably and 2 running above average between 35.5 and 35.9.  I'm running them on 1 instance of cgminer 4.4.0 with 5 antminer U2's on the same instance.

As far as multiminer goes, it's a great program, but it's just a gui interface for BFGminer, so if you're running bfg, your running the same miner you would be using multiminer, without a windows interface.

I was actually wondering about this. I have yet to get mine above 34 (having to unplug and replug the power in to do so). I was wondering if perhaps using a slightly higher wattage might raise hashing speed to the promised 37ghs. When I purchased mine I was told the recommended 12V 5A was insufficient to power these and had a 12V 7A power supply suggested. Instead I opted for the 12V 6A.
