Title: [LIVE] Withdraw Your TradeHill Balance Instantly- BitInstant
Post by: Yankee (BitInstant) on February 13, 2012, 11:57:37 PM
UPDATE Thursday February 23rd:

You can now withdraw your funds out of TradeHill! EDIT: Thanks to TradeHill, limits lifted! There are no minimums

https://www.tradehill.com/WithdrawOverview/USD/

Box A is destination exchange exchange of your choosing
Box B is destination account on the exchange
MtGox: Login id or account #
Bitcoinica: Login id
CryptoXChange: A/C No or Login ID
VirWox: Account ID
Box C is notification email

Once you submit the request please allow TradeHill Staff 12-24 hours to verify the payment.

Please note that Tradehill will continue to comply with our AML verification policy. Customers must verify their identity when their deposit / withdrawal activity (including pending withdrawals and deposits) is equal to or above 10K USD in the last 30 days. This applies to all transfer methods including bitcoin. These totals will be calculated from the total activity in all currencies, including BTC, and will include pending transfers.

Fees:

To withdraw to MtGox, or any exchange it will costs you $10 (We apologize if you think thats high, the fee's were discussed by all parties involved and we did not have the last word. Only $2.50 of that $10 is going to BitInstant)

MtGox has graciously decided to credit 1.25% of your deposit amount, which means everything up to $800 will have 1.25% added to it, and anything over $800 will be FREE.

CryptoXChange will credit your account $5.00, you need to email them yourselves and they will apply it.

VirWox and Bitcoinica is being added now.

------------

UPDATE Wednesday February 22nd:

We've successfully tested the system and everything is working nicely. It took a few days for us to act as middlemen between the exchanges. Since they are spread are the globe its hard to get everyone on at the same time to negotiate rates, fees and to test the system with everyone.

TradeHill has decided to manually verify all transfers, so we had to delete part of the code and redo it for a manual check halfway thru. Essentially, TradeHill will be verifying all transfers out for AML and KYC compliance. When you make the request it'll be 6-12 hours before TH can approved it. Besides for that process, everything is automated!

As of now (4pm EST) we're looking to launch this sometime around midnight tonight, as soon as the good folks over at MtGox, CryptoXChange, Bitcoinica, and VirWox are ready to rock and roll.

I have to give super praise to my partner Gareth for figuring out how to build a custom withdrawal method in a matter of days, building upon the systems of 4 different exchanges and then having to delete 25% of his code at the last minute  due to *someones* mind change  :P aint an easy thing to do.

I'll PM everyone in this thread once its launched, and update the thread

Charlie

------------

Update #1:

We're on board for launching this extremely soon. The tech is pretty much done and we're testing tonight.
I'm also happy to say the following promotions:

- Transfers to your MtGox Account from your TradeHill account is FREE. The folks at MtGox have decided to pick up the tab for their customers  :D

- Transfers to your CryptoXChange Account from your TradeHill account will get you $5.00 added to your account!

- Fees: While we have a few costs and obligations to our banking and exchange partners we're looking to make this as super cheap as possible. We're discussing possibly making transfers under a certain amount for free, to keep the liquidity flowing and buy/sell orders executing!

Thats all for now, will update more soon.

-Charlie

------------

Firstly,

I want to say what an honor it was been working with Jered, Adam, and Berk @ TradeHill. I've never came across such a fantastic team of people.
Most of you may not know this but Jered and Adam have been an integral part of Bitinstant, and have been working with us since day 1.
Jered and I have become close friends and I have never worked with such a ethical and hardworking team.

Now to the sad part, TradeHill is shutting down: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=63749.0

We are currently finishing up our TradeHill withdrawal system, it will be ready within 48 hours.

You will be able to withdaw your TradeHill USD to the following destinations:

-MtGox
-CryptoXchange
-VirWox
-Bitcoinica
-Dwolla (Will be ready by Friday)

While we're not sure what fee we will charge (if any) it will be very low.

If you would like to be made aware as soon as its ready, please reply to this thread and I will PM you when we launch.

The system will be simple, go to Withdrawal Options in your TradeHill Account and choose BitInstant.
We hate to see TradeHill go, and we will do everything in our power to not let the Bitcoin liquidity be effected by it.

-Charlie, Gareth and the Team @ BitInstant.com

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank our partners at TradeHill - from the time i've spent directly working with them to get our integration in place and due to our longterm ongoing partnership we had from the beginning it's clear that they are a very dedicated team and will continue to do great things where they can.

Some people have had doubts about the integrity of TradeHill's staff as can be seen from the multiple posts here with concerns about TradeHill. I'd like to personally vouch for Jered and say now that he has been as dedicated as he can be to his business and to bitcoin in general. I for one will miss TradeHill.

Hi Charlie, Gareth

Thanks for helping us out once more.
In those moments, BitInstant really stands as a cement for this community.

Heh, have fun notifying everyone with the 10 PMs per hour limit on this board.

Charlie has found the business model that works in this still-unstable economy. Not touching bitcoin directly is making it successful.

Actually, Bitinstant was totally Gareth's idea, I think his original name for it was "Fast MtGox Deposit LLC" lol

I stand corrected -  the team at Bitinstant has collectively tapped the business model that works. ;D

Although you do a good job managing communications Charlie! It's nice to hear regularly from a representative of any service, whether it is an exchange or a pool or whatever.

I don't recall the LLC bit, but yeah - the original idea was one that would be very small scale and work only for gox. Things have grown far far faster than I could ever have anticipated and most of that is down to Charlie seeing the potential and pushing things further.

I take all credit for the original concept, but it's him who made things seriously take off.

I'll vouch for the guys at TradeHill and say this definitely is NOT another mybitcoin, but they are under a heavy workload right now.
We've just been finalising the process for running these transfers while keeping compliant with all the AML regulations and so on, so while it may seem things are moving slowly i'll personally promise that we are both (BitInstant and TradeHill) working to get you your funds as fast as possible.

I can it now on tradehill, but the fees look a bit steep, why would CryptoXChange give a $5 credit while charging $10 in fees? It blows my mind.
Any hopes that it will be lowered?

Something sounds extremely illegal about this.

So, if you had less than $50 in your TradeHill account they are essentially telling you "too bad, we're keeping it"?

Whoa dude...

Awesome! That means TradeHill is going thru the AML process and they have completed it. We now have to run thru the batch and start processing each order manually. Please give us 6-12 hours to do this, we will do our best faster. As you can imagine when we turned this on we got a huge amount of requests!

Actually no. This requires ALOT of work on TradeHill's end as they have to manually verify orders, it just isnt worth it for less then $50.00 for them.

You still have the check/wire option though!

Didn't you say it was their decision to make the verification manual? I don't see why it's us that have to carry this burden and pay its price, paying a high fee, wait for a somewhat lengthy process and be unable to use it for less than $50.
On the very least it should be free and for any amount.

PS: I know this is not BitInstant fault, I'm just hoping tradehill see this message.

I was about to make the announcement, will do it now.

No, the fee's were set by TradeHill, not us. I'm sorry.

I just lost all respect for them...  If tradehill ever comes back I won't be doing business with them nor will I with bitcoin.com!   >:(

"The smallest allowable withdraw amount is currently 50.00 USD"    >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Something sounds extremely illegal about this.

So, if you had less than $50 in your TradeHill account they are essentially telling you "too bad, we're keeping it"?

Whoa dude...

Yuri, I understand your concerns however there are a few facts please understand,

Its not a lengthly process, all orders will be approved within 6-12 hours. If its longer, we will contact the customer individually.

I know its easy to say 'free' but there's alot of work going on here, and TradeHill has the burden to do alot of it. There are books to be balanced on both sides.  There are also other exchanges involved, all who have costs.

I know its frustrating, trust me, we've been working hard the past two weeks and TradeHill has gone above and beyond. Please don't be angry with them.

Tonight, we will speak to all the people involved and see if we can minimize if not, lift the limits. However, the fee has to stay as is.

Thanks for your continued support and patronage.

Charlie

Ya, the small guy get screwed again...  why did I think things would be different in the bitcoin
world?

Mostly I feel bad for the family and friends I talked into using tradehill... all of whom as well had
less than $50 there.

A check is not an option if I/we don't have a US address or bank account.

Ya, but there is still the wire option for only $45!   >:(

This isn't good for Bitcoin to have a bunch of newbies losing all the money they deposited there...
I will be buying all the btc they were able to withdraw so they can get out and forget about it...

No fear! We're going to make no minimum!

I'll update the thread in a bit.

Thank you for that.  But that $10 fee is still going to wipe out, or make it not worth it, for the smallest fry.

I'm sorry, we're doing the best we can here. Take a look above, I explained the reasoning behind the fee but again, the way was not decided on by me.

Yankee, since you are in direct contact to tradehill, could you suggest they allow USD to be transfered from one account to another?
This would be really be helpful in the case of people like on the quote above

I think the most fair way is something like 2-5% across the board with no minimum limit.  This way, the small fries can still take out their money.  God forbid people with a lot of cash actually give some of it up (to make it worthwhile for TradeHill).

Thus, $1000 account gives up $20-$50, approximately that of a wire fee.

A $2 account gives up 4-10 cents.

I used to be a big fan of TradeHill and I talked them up all over this forum.  I always gave them the benefit of the doubt in virtually every circumstance.  But honestly, this $10 flat rate decision is borderline one of the stupidest ideas I've heard on this forum.  I'm not an idiot and it's incredibly easy to see why this is unfair.  TradeHill took a business risk, and unfortunately for them, the banks made it difficult for them.

But, instead of saying "yep, we made a bad business decision and/or we got unlucky,"  they are passing off the trouble to the consumer so that it softens the blow they take.

That's completely unacceptable.  It has nothing to do with how hard they're working.  That's what businesses do -- they fucking work.  But, if things don't pan out the way they planned, they need to bite the bullet, not pass the bullet to us.

Maybe they should sell the Bitcoin.com domain to soften the blow, how about that one?

Originally, I proposed and it was decided for a long time, we were going to have a % rate, like what you said above.

The issue that was raised (I will not name names) was that there may be hundreds of <$50 amounts where the profit would only be a few cents.

For the parties involved, this was unacceptable, thus the current fee structure came to be.

Trust me, Im pissed as well. If you look at one of my earlier posts, I even wanted to do this for free! Even now, we're barely making a profit off this.

Why do you think MtGox decided to cover part of the fee? They know that most of the customers will go to them anyways, but we're all doing this for the good of Bitcoin.

But the thing is this shouldn't be an opportunity for profit.  It's great that BitInstant wants to help and same with Gox, but TradeHill should take absolutely 100% of the fallout from this.  It doesn't matter that hundreds of accounts are less than $50.  Their business model failed, and they should suck it up and eat their losses.  It's a gamble.  If I make a mistake with my money and my investments, I don't ask the Bitcoin community to cover my losses.

"For the parties involved" fails to include the consumer, and it's apparent that the current decision is unacceptable to at least some of us.  This isn't your money, or TradeHill's -- it's our money (property) and it should be us who has the largest influence over this decision.  I've never done business with Gox because of many bad decisions that they've made regarding customer service (mostly a lack of it, and I'm guessing the lack of customer service is there because they simply don't want to hire more people to specifically handle customer service issues).

Starting a business, especially a Bitcoin business, is an extremely risky endeavor, and it should come as no surprise that many Bitcoin businesses will end up failing and losing a lot of money.  That is the risk they took.  I view this as stealing, even with the 2-5% fee structure I suggested.  But, at least that's me trying to be nice and offer a compromise.

You really believe that? I think we're just all caught up in the moment. TradeHill was the first major competitor to MtGox and most of you may not know this, but if it weren't for their help and assistance, Bitinstant wouldnt exist. I owe Jered more then anyone can understand, and we became really good friends from this. He's not to blame at all, they took SO MUCH heat from everyone.

Look, I bet Jered's a great guy.  I even believe that, and I'd go have a beer with him.

But, he is in possession of a lot of other peoples' money and he's trying to find a way to give it all back while making it worth his while.  This has nothing to do with his character.  He just needs to give back everyone's money -- all of it.  This really isn't that complicated.  If he was holding only 1 person's money, I'm sure he'd have no problem and would just give it back.  But, since it's 100's of peoples' money, now he thinks he can skim a bit off the top.

I'm still pretty sure there's something very illegal about this.

Your assuming he's running the show right now, and that he's the one who's deciding all this. TradeHill is not 1 person, and there are ALOT more facts at play here right now. I'll tell you that Jered wasn't even involved in the fee negotiations, nor the minimums.

My mistake, I shouldn't have said "Jered."  I actually didn't really assume he was the only one deciding it, but I suppose I always did synonymize his name with TradeHill's.

And yes, I'm sure there are probably a lot of other factors that take a lot of TradeHill's time and effort  such as balancing books and all that jazz.  But, I still know what I think the final outcome should look like, and the facts you allude to should only change how this final outcome is reached.

For the record, I only have like $2 in my TradeHill account (maybe $0, I can't recall if I got every single penny out) and I really couldn't care if I got the money back.  But the principle truly disturbs me.

I know you're in a difficult spot playing middle-man.  Please don't mistake any of what I'm saying for irritation towards you.  I friggin' love BitInstant -- your business has helped me make a few hundred $ from arbitrage opportunities :)

You really believe that? MyBitcoin.com was the first bitcoin bank and shopping cart solution and most of you may not know this, but if it weren't for them, Bitcoin wouldn't have progressed as far as it has today.

See? I can do that to.

Anyway, is it fair to say that Jered is no longer running the company? If so, that makes a lot more sense. As it was, TradeHill was slowing dying. I totally understand why they shut down. However, it sounds to me like Jered sold off the company to some sort of liquidator, and those guys know a thing or two about significantly profiting off of closing down a business. It's disgusting. Luckily, I doubt that it is legal, so I expect a class-action lawsuit to start against them at some point here.

For $10, I could pay a poor college student to do the AML checks for a whole hour. You can't tell me that most of that $10 isn't pure profit going into the pockets of whoever owns TradeHill now.

A quick note for those wondering:
Due to the manual work required, once TH approves, you may need to wait a few more hours for your withdrawal request to get caught up in the current batch of orders, i'm running through one such batch right now and for any future batches will aim to complete the whole lot in no more than 24 hours.

Believe me that I did try to get this whole system automated with a web app, but due to the AML concerns it has become a painstaking manual process. If you are concerned about a withdrawal request not turning up then please get in touch with us via the regular support channels.

So apparently lots of money launderers used TH in its heyday, and they are trying to catch them as they close up shop? Don't mind me, just speculating here.  ::)

Isn't it possible to make 1 big transfer with the money of several smaller accounts to Mtgox, and then spread the money to different accounts through Mtgox codes? I know this will force people to use Mtgox for getting their money out, but at least it's better than nothing, right?

Thanks  ;D I never thought for a second anyone has anything against us or me personally. I'm just trying to shift some of the blame away from TradeHill because they really don't deserve it.

And yeh, everyone makes it difficult for the middle man!

I thank you and bitinstant as well for stepping up to the plate to help us customers.

But I am still very disgusted at tradehill and those behind it. Why won't Jered, or whoever is in charge, even deign to give us any reply to our questions and comments himself? Too busy counting the nickels and dimes they have ripped off of the small depositors no doubt.   >:(

How long does the Tradehill->Mtgox transfer is supposed to take? I made a transfer yesterday, the funds were gone by today morning but still nothing in Mtgox.

But the thing is this shouldn't be an opportunity for profit.  ...

I see, they shall not make profit, and it's all their risk. I know this form of work only for very very poor people.

No it's also your decicion and risk.

I have survived Bitcoin7, moneybookers, and OkPay issues. I have read many issues about chargebacks, and many other difficulties with money transfers (for trading platforms also). Trading with Bitcoins was also my decicion (and risk).

If Jered is a trustworthy person (I do think so furthermore), he has to survive this crash. Not with profit, of course. But he must get another chance, he yet is a win for the Bitcoin community.

Well, with the current withdrawal options, TradeHill will end up effectively stealing $2.04 of mine.  I don't care about the amount.  But if you have <$5 in there, you can kiss it goodbye.

Me too. I've been waiting more than 24 hours since it was marked 'completed' in TH.

Can someone from BitInstant please confirm that this is nothing to worry about?

There is nothing to worry about, I am sorry for the delay.

TradeHill approved these on Friday and we are working as fast as we can to finish them off.

Gareth is ill and I'm in the office on a Saturday trying to get this done, without making any mistakes. Please bear with me.

By the end of the weekend, we hope to have caught up.

Thanks for your support

Charlie

No worries. I understand you're swamped at the moment, just wanted to be sure.

Thanks for the update.

And now MTGox orders should be done too - if your order has not turned up (remember, we deliver gox funds as a coupon code sent by email) then please contact myself or Yankee or email support@bitinstant.com and give your TradeHill withdrawal ID so we can look into things.

We're still offering this service for a while so don't think you've missed out, and we've now also optimised the process a lot so that it will be more in line with our usual speeds and live up to the "Instant" part of the BitInstant name.

I remind on EUR accounts on TradeHill.

In my case I made a 586 EUR deposit at 3. of January from Paxum. The money has been withdrawn from Paxum, but was never deposited to my TradeHill account. I made at least a dozen Tickets, without any answers yet.

The TradeHill transaction ID was 37652. On February the transfer vanished from the pending deposits list, also without any information. Would be nice to get my money deposited into my MtGox (also EUR)  account.

This is the email message from Paxum at 3. of January:

Betreff:    Receipt for payment - payment@tradehill.com TradeHill

Dear first last,

After the first news of TradeHill closing down I tried withdrawing by wire transfer from them to MtGox - it is already 3 weeks ago - and the money did not arrive to MtGox.

This was rather significant sum of money - a lot more then the quote above.

TradeHill did answer once to my pleads - but did not provide any useful info.  I don't know what should I do at this moment.

Good Morning,

I'm concerned, why have you not emailed us regarding this? If this was 3 weeks ago and such a significant amount of money?

Everyone knows to email us and we completed all but 1-2 transfers. I'm a little confused that you would just nonchalantly post here and not get in touch with us?

Ask anyone, we always respond within a few hours and will resolve any issues. We can follow the money trail. If TradeHill gave us the go-ahead then we have your transfer

You 'don't know what should I do at this moment.' Well, the first thing is contact me! We have not received 1 communication from you thus far and would love to resolve your problem.

Your worried, but didnt even contact the people who are transferring your money  :)

I actually did not transver via Bitinstant - but used the TradeHill wiretrasnfer withdrawal - I reacted before I've got the news that Bitinstant is going to do the transfer.  You can imagine how I now regret this - but it looked like the only option back then.  I have contacted TradeHill and MtGox many times (MtGox did answer).

TradeHill answered me the first time on my case. I'm glad to hear they are working on my issue.

They are down because they were hosted on Linode.

However, we closed the TH withdrawals

Let me be clear, Bitinstant is not TradeHill. We simply offered the means to move your USD out for a 2 week period. Everyone who request the withdrawal via Bitinstant recieved their funds within 24 hours or so.

Although I doubt your funds were lost (Why would you be keeping it in TradeHill when they closed over 3 weeks ago?) You should be contacting TradeHill.
