Dubstep is slowly taking over my Pandora.  My coworkers are addicted, my family is addicted, and I see it in commercials now!  I hope it takes over popular culture and replaces Rap et al.  I even powered up the BASS CANON for my neighbors last night.  My custom made subwoofer convinced my neighbor that dubstep is badass  ;D

Dubstep == Ear Rape
Fixed for ya.

Dubstep is a worst style of music I heard of. Electrohouse is on par with it. These genres is a torture of ears and brains for people with good taste. Braindead music.

I like just about every genre except for country

but my favorite is music with lots of bass and dubstep has tons of bass

I've also noticed that if someone has a shit sound system they don't like dubstep because well it sounds like shit on a shit system

I've got 2 15in subs and 2 12in subs in my room that pool around 800 watts
and it sounds amazing!

The age of traditional instruments is coming to an end. No instrument can produce as many sounds as the computer. DUBstep is the future of music.

No....
I don't like my system because its loud.... thats a plus but the reason I like it is because of the sound quality....
without good subs there is alot of the audio waves your missing out on and this is why dubstep sucks if your not listening to it with the right equipment.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subwoofer#Frequency_range_and_frequency_response

Heres a little info on frequency range....

I understand speakers and sound waves. I like my 10" sunfire sub...it's doesn't cost a fortune, but it's tight enough for my purposes.

I bet my bass cabinet could hang with your subs... 1x15" and 2x10" with a 600w head.

The quality of the equipment you use makes a big difference. I got the logitech Z5500 and a XFI titanium sound card. DUBstep is amazing when you can feel it instead of just hearing it.

However good the quality of the equipment, there is still massive loss from an instrument to digitization. A $30,000 Gibson guitar in person is always going to sound better than that same guitar on a million dollars worth of gear, because there is always a bottleneck...not true of the analog world.

Very true.... however most of the sounds of dubstep are generated by electronic equipment not instruments

Have you ever been choked out? Throw in a beat and it sounds pretty similar to the stretch just before you slip into unconsciousness.

I think the same thing. Like I always say: dubstep is the future of music, bitcoin is the future of money.

As for being choked out, I've never had the pleasure, does it sound like what you hear if you manage to pay attention when normally slipping into unconsciousness? To me dubstep definitely sounds like that. It also reminds me of the loony toons.

Also, the wub wub sound is somehow similar to the afterglow when staring at fireworks. It never lasts quite long enough, so I can just never get enough of it. Or get some europium-doped strontium aluminate powder ("long lasting" glow in the dark powder) and a 405 nm (violet) laser, put some glue on a paper and sprinkle the powder. It'll phosphoresce when you shine the laser on it. Watching that stuff dim out is like dubstep on the eyes. You can buy all you need on amazon for like $20 and maybe mess around and observe some quantum entanglement (http://arxiv.org/ftp/physics/papers/0503/0503052.pdf). Actually, I would recommend the glow powder and laser whether you like dubstep or not.

Also, not dubstep but awesome:

Dubstep is the sound that's created when Transformers fuck. It’s a genre of music which is filthier than fingering your sister and finding your Dad's wedding ring. Does that answer your question?

Umm, I hate to tell you but there are no female transformers afaik. This means, according to your post that it is the music made from gay robot sex (I'm sure that is appealing to some but not me).

You finger your sister????? Man you have issues. Gay robot sex, sister fingering, wow.

THIS +

If you can't play it with an instrument then its not really music. And don't say a computer is a musical instrument because it is not.

I disagree. I dont think computers will replace traditional instruments any time soon. But i do think they will contribute to the evolution of music. You can have music without traditional instruments. For example church choirs that clap and sing together. Is that not music? Have you ever seen people create music with glasses of water? They rub their finger around the glass and it produces different sounds depending on how much water is in the glass. Some people will even argue that singing birds is music. It all depends how you perceive it. Computers are like swiss army knives. They serve multiple purposes. Including creating music. So that does make them a musical instrument to some degree. Give it a few more years and there will be classes for creating music with computers.

Well I don't know if I am a musician, but I have been playing guitar and bass (plus sucking at piano) for like 10 years and was in bands throughout high school and college. I always had an aversion to electronic music until I heard some dubstep. I then started trying to imitate the oscillating low pass cut-off with my effects pedal. Then I got some software and began messing around in that, creating crazy sounds. At that point I was hooked.

music is also about spirit and soul, but granted, not everybody can hear and feel this.

Why do people even call it "dubstep" when it's been "breakbeats" for like 20 years?  ::)
The easiest way is to listen to the range of sound combos. Compare datsik (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcg06WppwyI)(dark/simple)  to skrillex (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSeNSzJ2-Jw&ob=av2e)(poppy)

The main thing I did not understand until trying to make this type of music myself is that creating each sound used requires days of tweaking and is best done saving sounds created and tweaked during multiple states of consciousness. Reusing a sound in more than one song is frowned upon. The way to resuse sounds is VIP's and remixes.
