1. Go to NFD's official Bitbucket repository (https://bitbucket.org/NFDcoin/nfdcoin/downloads/), and download the latest client's .zip file. At the moment, the latest is "nfd-client-NFD-1.1.5-20140623-A.zip"
2. Once you've downloaded the .zip to your computer, unzip it and go to the inner "nfd-client..." file. You should see a file named "run.sh" inside.
2a) If you're running a Linux or Apple system, look for the "run.sh" file.
3. Click "run.bat" (or "run.sh"). You should see a command-line app run a wall of text.
4. Wait until you see this message: "NFD server NFD-1.1.5-20140623-A started successfully."  followed by INFO: nxt.apiServerEnforcePOST = "true"
4a) Those two messages should be the last two from your command-line app.
5. Once you see those messages, open up a new browser (tab) and go to this URL: http://127.0.0.1:8876/ . Your browser should now show the NFD login screen.
6. Click "Don't have an account? Click here to create one!"
7. Click "Want to choose your own secret phrase? Click here."
8. Enter the exact same secret passphrase that you put into the hasher, the same passphrase whose hash you sent in.
9. Refresh the browser, which will take you back to the login screen.
10. Then, just enter your passphrase and click the arrow!

Ok so I'm a bit confused. What should I read to understand what to do from here? This is the first time I've seen this type of wallet and I don't understand how or why I would lease/issue assets/buy an alias/generate a token/how to forge. well to answer my own question, seems to be a limitation of the current wallet and you have to use a workaround.

This worked for me:

In the Register Alias window, select Type = Other, URI = acct:xxx@nfd (where xxx is your numeric account ID, you can get that by left clicking on your account ID in the upper left wallet corner)

just tried another alias, worked fine for me.  ;D

The wallet you have is the right one, and it's a lot like a Nxt wallet. In fact, the functions for it are the same as for Nxt.

Essentially, except for the user interface, your NFD wallet is the same as Nxt's - so the Nxt how-tos will teach you how to do the same thing with your NFD wallet. That's one advantage of being a straight clone. ;D

nice, any plan about it?

Starting tomorrow morning, both me and MaWo are going to concentrate on the people left out, left behind and robbed by that lurking hacker who stole from several NFDers. I'm going to start on the PMs tomorrow morning, and clean up as best I can. That might take all day tomorrow. Then I'm going to mass-PM everyone on the distribution list to make sure they got their coins, and ask if anyone has any trouble or issues. Unfortunately, there have been a few rough edges to this launch because of NFD's unique character. Quite a few people simply gave up on NFD once NFDCoin had robbed us all back in May. Some of them didn't respond to my previous mass-PMs. Once they see that NFD is "for real," they might take an interest only to find that they threw away or forgot their passphrase. So there has to be a bit of a cleanup period and find-out-where-everyone-stands survey.

But after that, the plan is to get NFD listed! The two most viable targets are Dgex and Poloniex - but to get NFD on Poloniex, I'm going to need a lot of help. :)

At the same time as the vote drive gets rolling, I'll be setting up the social-networking presences for NFD. We've got ourselves a real coin, and I'm going to be spreading the word! And you can too! Once I have each page set up, I'll announce it here. At a minimum, NFD will be on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and LinkedIn - maybe Pinterest if I can figure it out. ;)

The most immediate stage in the plan, once the post-launch cleanup is done, will be getting NFD on an exchange and getting the word out!

But that doesn't mean the entire team is going to turn into a bunch of flacks.:P There will be technical innovations put in the pipeline, starting with an improved user interface. Also on the to-do list is a website that's an improvement over the present "alpha" Site and a more sophisticated block explorer. Since NFD is going to be community-centric, our first "real" improvement will most likely be to the browser client.

Of course there's more going into the pipeline, but our more sophisticated ideas are merely in the brainstorming stage right now. We'd much rather put first things first and take it a step at a time. But rest assured: there will be "news you can use"!

Working on it. :) Right now, I'm in the middle of generating "ultra-paranoid" passphrases for the accounts' wallets. That got me a little sidetracked, as I saw how I can put together a very basic Java gimcrack that can help others generates secure passphrases for themselves.

Best estimate is that a scammer stole ~200 BTC from trusting Nxters through the Asset Exchange. The amount stolen has made the fellow who scammed us look like a small-change hustler...

Thankfully, this is one kind of "scam-dal" that has not plagued the NFD world! But please read through it and take it as a reminder to be on your guard. The trouble with the Asset Exchange is that it's 100% trust-based at the moment.

So, in the abstract, that big Nxt AE robbery was entirely foreseeable...but still...

So please be cautious. I don't know if it's me, but there seems to be a whole new crime wave directed against Nxt & its clones. The crypto world, at least seemingly, has gotten more dangerous recently . "Safety first" is inconvenient, but it doesn't hurt. :)

EDIT: Please withhold your judgement about the incident until all the facts are in. I meant for this post to be a "it can happen to you..." cautionary note, and nothing more.

I really feel awful about that. One or more hackers knew about the distribution, lied in wait like a highway robber behind a boulder, and brute-forced the NFD brainwallet with a known-password table, a rainbow table and who knows what else. The NFD was stolen from accounts that he was able to crack with his malicious script.

We tried what we could to encourage people to use secure passphrases, but in the end not everyone did. Thankfully, MaWo held off on some sends because he judged some hashes to match up to weak passwords. Had he not done so, the thief or thieves would have stolen more.

I wish he had held back on the ones who got robbed, but the point behind hashes is to unrecognizably disguise the string being hashed - so he did miss a few vulnerable passphrases. And he and I did warn several times about creating secure passphrases. To be quite frank, he did go above and beyond the call of duty by finding that known-password table and hashing all the passwords therein, and comparing the known-password hashes to the hashes on the distribution list. That's the only way to find vulnerable passphrases once they're hashed, because an SHA-256 hash is impossible to reverse.

When it comes down to it, the robber was successful because he had better vulnerable-password tables than MaWo - and the accounts he robbed had vulnerable passwords!

The only way to assure a robbery-free launch would have been for MaWo and I to pick everyone's passphrase for them, each made up of 36 or more random characters, and send out each holder's passphrase via encrypted Email. But that was unthinkable for us, because it would have gone against the whole philosophy of P2P cryptocurrency. More practically, it would have introduced a "single point of failure" that would have gotten everyone robbed if something had gone wrong! That's why we didn't even think of doing that.

Distribution went very good, it comes down to quality of your passphrase. Regarding forging, you have to achieve 1440 confirmations on transaction, than you can forge. Just wait a little, maybe day o two.

YOu have to send some coins (any) somewhere before your account is able to start FORGING

1) you did know how the coins are distributed. You are a stakeholder and has agreed by sending a request and maybe btc/NXT to scammer NFDCoin.
2) I sent all coins to the accounts which were calculated from the hashed secret you have provided.
3) the new dev team only picked the pieces from scammer NFDCoin. We didn't change the process except we pmed everyone with the request to check hash and calculated account.
In addition we did a duplicate hash and a weak password check.

yes, change pass phrase means make a new secure pass phrase, login to your wallet, copy new accountID, go back to old wallet, send all your coins to new address.

I really don't know. We have an incredible story in NFD, and community support that almost all other alts would die for. You'd think that both exchanges would have seen that, as I (and others) have been knocking on their doors. Maybe it's just inertia.

I have some problems with my wallet. It shows 0 balance.

I followed the steps on the first page. Downloaded the wallet. Startet the batch and then insert my secret passphrase on the login screen.
It should show ~1.5 million NFD but it shows 0 ???

Hello everyone! After three weeks or so spinning my wheels in the offline brig, my landline and DSL Internet have finally been restored. Turns out there were two separate line problems affecting my connectivity, both in the neighbourhood and both of the kind that only an onsite line technician could fix. This explains why I was left hanging for so long. Suffice it to say that I have taken steps to make sure that this "outage" will not happen again, and will take further steps. By August, I should have true connectivity redundancy - so if this ever happens again to one network, I'll just switch over to the other one and continue as if nothing had happened.

It'll be as costly as car insurance and I'll treat it as such...but it's only a matter of time before I squeeze some use out of my new connection. ;)

With that announcement out of the way, I have a second one to make. I have a ton of catching up to do, so I will not be responding further in this thread until I've caught up. Then I'll probably reintroduce myself :) and sketch out what I learned during my down-time and what I can do to promote NFD. I know the price performance has been disappointing so far, but NFD's price has been pretty solid around 4 satoshis. Yes, there is an upside to that...
