If they gave him a refund by his sloppy terms, they could be sued for the refund twice-over in court for not providing the correct documentation to prove the refund was given in the first place. That's pretty naive to think the blockchain "would suffice" in a court of law with centuries of proven methods of contract law. The blockchain provides proof for hardcore bitcoiners, that's about it. I made a comment in a thread about magazine subscriptions, someone thought to send me a PM asking me about my address to ensure the magazine'd go to where I am instead of where I was. I'll note too that that's pretty easy to do when there is not a legally binding refund for both private and professional work being negotiated. heh.
