Title: About Pool Workers....
Post by: TyrTheAlpha on June 24, 2014, 04:17:46 PM
A co-miner and I have been wondering about workers: If you have say three (3) Antminer S1’s on the same pool using the same worker does it make a difference to your overall hash rate or efficiency?

It does not affect your long term efficiency at all.

The only difference I can discern is the difficulty of that worker... You should be fine either way.

It don´t make any difference. In some pools you have a the option that you get notified if one worker is idle for some time. So you know (via e-mail) which antminer has a failure when you use different workers.

Pretty much this.  You could run 50 PH/s on the same worker if the pool supported the difficulty.  The only reason people make multiple miners is that it is easier to track down if one unit is acting up or fails completely.

Thanks, people  :)

Assuming that all of machines are working as expected then you will not lose any efficiency.

When one of them starts to have problems you will have difficulty determining which one is having problems as the stats of all three will be combined.

Same in p2pool?

Same in p2pool?
Yes. Stats might be displayed more accurately with more hashpower on one address though.

There should be no difference with P2Pool compared to a normal pool.

How would they be displayed more accurately? This may be true for very low hashrates, but once hashrates get to a measurable level the pool should be able to display the hashrate just fine.
