We have not tested many hubs conclusively at this point but believe amp capacity to be the only limiting factor.  You can

Nice. I'll give you 20 bucks for it.

Dam, 100 bucks for 15 GH/s!  Like the tech specs and power usage and all, but man who'd actually pay $100 for 15 GH/s.

R-boxes are $60 for 32 GH/s.  Even with the R-box's greater power consumption, hard to overcome the entry price of this Nano Fury compared to it.

Logic dictates neither are going to see net positive financial ROI - in which case, I'd rather have something I can plug into a hub and have it not take up all that much space.
(Though I have defended the R-Box (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=632947.msg7137753#msg7137753) as well.

Of course, I am biased ;)  This may well be 'The Last StickMiner', as most of the new chips appear to be ill-suited to this form-factor.

by the way - 11GH is about the lowest I've ever seen (even when using the worst hubs I can find around) and with a slightly better hub (and a bit of air flow) you can easily get to 15-16GH :

the two underperforming ones are on a not-so-good hub and the two that do 15GH+ are using a sub-$20 Amazon Basics 7-port hub with 4A power supply. I don't have any more NF6 left around - that hub could easily take at least one or two more NanoFury NF6.

And as for convenience - I think this is among the easiest (if not The Easiest) device to enter the hashing world - it is literally just plug-and-play ... it doesn't get any more easier than that ... Or if someone has any ideas - please share! :)

The units are highly overpriced

Just like most miners out there - except considerably smaller and less noisy ;)

From what point of view?

In-its-class products: The only other StickMiner in its class, the hex•fury, is 1.6x the price.
USD/Ghash-wise, it's only mildy higher than the Antminer U2, but you'd need 7-8 of those to match the hash rate.

Sum-of-its-parts: sure, but that's the price of buying a finished product.  vs3 plans to offer some DIY kits which, if you can source the Bitfury chips (and probably the heat sinks), should be substantially cheaper.  But you'll have to put it together yourself.

Market price: on e-bay they're going for $50+ in an auction - but you do have to compete against other bidders :)  The buy-it-now is slightly higher than the price listed here at this time.  Still, if that's more the price you had in mind, try your luck there.

ROI: Like I said, it won't give net positive financial ROI - just like pretty much every miner out there.  Just for kicks, a naive calculation on when it would ROI gives a product price of ~$20 (though with the difficulty once again rising quickly, expect that to need to be lower still).  That's just not going to happen for a low-volume product.

USB miners hashing power have improved recently with the coming of smaller microchips.

Slightly better than worthless is still worthless.

After the next difficulty adjustment in a few days, these will generate $.25 per day at best. That's a minimum of 400 days for RoI if difficulty never goes up. They're worthless.

You are right.Just saying that they also improved the architecture along with other mining giants.

As others have eluded to - this miner is for:

-brand new folks testing the water,
-enthusiasts who have collected many if not all USB miners ever made,
-wanna be EE's (and real ones) who like to tinker,
-bitcoin fans who want to mine at work in their cubicle,
-berated husbands whose wife will leave them if they bring another f%&k*! HOT and LOUD machine in the house.
-insert your reason here.

This is not a device you will profit from.  At least not in btc.  While it would be great if demand for these was such that we could make 10,000 units at a time and everyone would profit....that's not going happen.  Our run was for less than 120 and these are the last 30 or so.

But damn.  They are so much fun.  :D ;D :P

2 questions.

1) how much power does one use if I clock it at freq 40?

2) how much will it hash at freq 40?

3) will it use  bfg 3.99  like the 2 chip ones you sold me?

Those that at 54-56 bits do 12-16GH now at speed 40 do 6.9-8.2GH.

I'll have to separately set up the rig to measure the current consumption but I'd guesstimate it to be in the 0.7-0.9A.


You can most likely use the same version, but I would recommend upgrading to 4.0.0 as there were a few bugfixes and tweaks in between.

thanks I was trying to figure  if I could get better then 1 watt a gh on an underclock.   so it  looks like they don't save a lot of power on the lower  clocks.

As I recall - but I can't find the post - it will only be open sourced once distributors who commissioned / licensed the design have been made whole.  But if you have one in hand, reverse engineering a schematic from that shouldn't be too difficult. )

Have you taken any heat measurements with multiple in the same hub?  The heat spreaders look like they may help, but the old ones got insanely hot and with a 10X speed increase I wonder how hot these are in a group.

I can take some measurements for you tomorrow.

I have a 10 port hub with 5 NF6's running slightly overclocked.  There is a USB fan on them and the surface temperature of the miners is 41C.  Without the fan they would be about 72C-82C.
Because of their deepth you would not be able to fit more than 5 on a standard 10 port hub.  If your hub ports are tightly packed you may not even fit 5.
I have 49 port hub on which I have run a maximum of 18 NF6's.  The limitation there was more my PC than the hub itself.

I am still running your bi fury or fury II sticks.   I just wish these had come out sooner rather then this late in the game.

 I am typing in my entire   btc  address each time I restart it.   a pain in the ass.

philipma - with a .bat file is exactly how I run my bfgminer and that should work just fine - if not you should post a note on the bfgminer thread as there are more people watching it which could help with troubleshooting it.

I've now switched to using a bfgminer.conf file and I start bfgminer directly - no need of a bat file. If you haven't created a config file you can tell bfgminer to save its current running configuration to a .conf file - press [ S ] to go to the settings screen and [ W ] to write the .conf file.

A question about the 6 chip unit what is the lowest power watt per gh  you got .

  set at 45 or 40 freq and tweaking the volts with a different resistor.

get one of these with  a bfgminer 4.4.0  program on a usb stick for the programmed challenged.

 I would love to have one capped at 10 or 9 gh but lower power use due to a different resistor.

Aww, disappointed!   Just got started BTC mining a week ago w/ my GPU, have ordered a few used Antminer U2s,  and just now ran across the NF6 and here it is still July and the 3 for $255 is over -- bummer :(!
