also people seem to ask this

Did Hitler really put fluoride in the water at concentration camps? If so why do we put it in are water?

Fluoride in toothpaste? In water? What? I've had friends recommend to me that fluoride in toothpaste is unnecessary and can actually be damaging, but I never looked into it. Have used it forever...

Why don't you guys take your cavity filled teeth and unvaccinated children and go live on some island somewhere where you can heal each other with magnets while your cancer spreads to untreatable levels?

Like everything else, there's a recommended intake dosage, if you ingest a lot it will be toxic, if you ingest the recommended amount it's good.

Heard it was used by the Nazi to help keep prisoners under control.
The amounts they used were far larger than you can find in toothpaste, so you shouldn't worry, unless your're eating it.  :-\

No, this wasn't about ingestion and toxicity, but rather about the effect on teeth. Fluorosis can cause discoloration of the enamel. It's not clear at this point, I think, whether this is only a cosmetic issue.

What I don't get is there's a lot of opposition to putting it in water supplies yet never any discussion on not adding it. I keep hearing this teeth argument but if the damn stuff is already in toothpaste then there's no need to add it to the water supply. Also, aren't there laws against medication without consent?

Fluorosis can occur easily in young children, that's why young kids should refrain from using toothpaste until they learn to properly spit out the toothpaste instead of swallowing it.

.... Isn't that just down to not being stupid and parents teaching them how to brush their teeth properly than flouride itself?

The rapidly growing teeth of young kids and the germinal bud teeth (permanent teeth) are susceptible to it.  That combined with stupid parents can lead to the discoloration.  So it's 2 factors.  Once the kids are past 3 years they should be OK.

Little fluoride is good for your teeth; much fluoride is bad for everything.

I was forced to eat fluoride pills in elementary school. They accused me of being the most disruptive student ever.

Fortunately I took up smoking in high school and the nicotine has since cleaned the aluminum plaque the fluoride had glued to the neurons in my brain off.

Sucks for the people who don't consume niccotine as they put floride in all processed foods and spray us liberally with aluminum aerosols.

The brain plaque does serve a perpose beyond reducing intellectual capacity and motor function. The aluminum plaque allows for better reception of RF waves and increased brainwave entrainment. The RF signals are bounced off the aluminum aerosol clouds that are sprayed.

As I understand it, there is both naturally occurring fluoride which is healthy in that amount, and non-naturally occurring fluoride that's essentially bought from China, for the most part, as toxic waste and dumped into the city water supply and passed off as the naturally occurring stuff.  Studies have been done on this compound and have shown that the benefit of having "healthy teeth" (and by that I mean people are getting what's called 'fluorosis' from too much fluoride which fucks up their teeth, and there seems to be no study showing that nations which do fluoride generally have better teeth than nations which don't fluoridate) does not outweigh the health loss and decreased IQ.

Ignoring all of that, libertarians generally understand this better than anyone else: if they're forcing you to take it, it's not good for you.  The argument as to whether we should fluoridate or not is a red herring; they sell fluoride pills that those who think fluoride is good for them can take, it would be far more efficient--as is anything in this world--for individuals to decide for themselves what they will put in their bodies.  There is no debate about that; the debate is between whether or not we actually need to force everyone to do it or not do it, to which the decision is obvious to anyone who still has the ability to empathize.

Fluoride is not akin to what lead was in Rome.  Risk vs Benefit. Even oxygen is dangerous to humans - you going to shut down aerobic metabolism now and stop breathing?

Poor oral health from cavities will lead to septic emboli running through your bloodstream - you'll have strokes starting from age 30.

My understanding is that fluoride is deposited by the body into the bones, teeth, cartilage and joints as a way to shunt the deathly toxin away from the rest of the body.
In other words, once it goes in, it never comes out. Furthermore, the fluosilicic acid industrial waste being added my most water utilities includes other deadly toxins such as lead an arsenic, which are not present in naturally occurring fluoride.
That’s what’s so terrible about being forced to ingest it.

My family has suffered for generations with chalky tooth enamel - lots of cavities resulted. Since fluoride has been added to our water 30years ago, there have been no cavities, and we all have beautiful strong teeth .

Fluoride was used by the Nazis to calm prisoners as well as to sterilize the Ghettos. Fluoride is one of the basic ingredients of Prozac (FLUoxetene Hydrochloride) as well as Sarin Nerve Gas(Isopropyl-Methyl-Phosphoryl FLUORIDE)
There's so much more to fluoride than what we're being told by the government. Don't be a sheep, read into it.

Sodium Fluoride is toxic waste, and the same stuff goes in rat poison & toothpaste! Strange that we're not told this by toothpaste manufacturers isn't it? Draw your own conclusions.

Fluoride is a major cause of low thyroid gland function It is a chemically closely related halide to Iodine. The receptors of the thyroid are blocked from Iodine by both bromide and fluoride.

That doesn't fit in with modern methods though, usually situations like that are treated as an opportunity for growth, cavities are a boost to the dental industry.

Its pretty confusing that its good for teeth yet bad for us.  If i use mouthwash with fluoride it can result in ulcers to the mouth lining.  I should imagine it doesnt do alot of good when ingested, use topically only imo.

Sorry, but I think this is a very dumb poll, because it only allows stereotypical answers.

Everything can be toxic if you ingest/apply too much of it. Only the threshold of toxicity varies among substances.
So all substances that have health benefits can also be toxic if taken in unreasonable amounts. Fluoride is clearly beneficial to teeth health, because it eradicates harmful bacteria and fortifies dental enamel. On the other hand, fluoride can be neurotoxic if ingested. So it is advisable that you avoid swallowing tooth paste when brushing teeth. But that does not mean that you should refrain from using tooth paste altogether.

The FDA standards of quality state that domestic bottled water with no added fluoride may contain between 1.4 and 2.4 milligrams per liter (mg/L) fluoride, depending on the annual average daily air temperatures at the location where the bottled water is sold. Domestic bottled water with added fluoride can contain between 0.8 and 1.7 mg/L fluoride, depending on the annual average daily air temperatures where the bottled water is sold.

i'm not sure what the standards are in Europe, i would think that there may be models that perhaps cater to those standards. this is my filter: http://www.amazon.com/Water-Filter-Multipure-CBVOCSC-Countertop/dp/B0002MIJIG very easy to set up counter-top system, change filter once per year (or more if heavy use).

Please give your opinions about fluoride.
as much as possible, I don't want it in my water

You don't need fluoride for good oral health. The fluoride compound they put in the tap water across North America is a byproduct of artificial fertilizer factories. This is toxic waste that costs money to dispose, but instead municipal governments pay for this waste and dump it in our water supplies.

LOL. i'm not too worried. but it does seem like a ploy to let corporations get away with environmental pollution...

People say its good for you. They also say cow milk is good for you. They also said smoking cigarettes was good for you. Whats the difference in the 3 of those? Don't force me to drink it by putting it in my water, I could care less what everyone else does. Enjoy drinking your cow puss, smoking your cancer and filling your passive brains with fluoride. And I'll enjoy not having to do any of those things.

But that does not mean that you should refrain from using tooth paste altogether.

ya.ya.yo!

I'm more then happy to add to the poll. Let me know what you'd like me to add. I already added what the hell is that.

Also, you advise against swallowing tooth paste. I agree. But it is also put in the water supply and we do swallow that, and shower in it, cook with it, etc.

And from what I understand it's not like we (usa) can just go to the water department and convince an operator to go rogue and refuse to put it in the water. Fluoride is a component of lots of things that get put in, not just a single add on.

There is also video of "them" spraying DDT on kids to prove it was safe.

what water do you drink? :)

My water comes from a spring, that turns into a small creek, that goes into a collection box, that goes into a 4 inch pvc pipe, that goes into a water tank, that passively pressurizes mine and my neighbors houses. The water has not only tested out to be extremely high quality but several of the neighbors have made it to 100 and the kids who grew up there have really good teeth. There is not fluoride in the water.

There is not fluoride added to the water, sure. But there would be naturally occurring fluoride in the water -- the question being, in what amount? It is a naturally occurring element, you know. :)

Oh, there is definitely natural minerals in the water. I drink the same water as the 3000 year old trees do.

i'm not a huge fan of having it put in the water. i use high quality filtration for any tap water we use, but for drinking, we mostly have glass bottled spring water. i need my water to taste and feel good, and i don't need to worry about that crap....
Did you read this reply and are you sure your state doesn't do it?
I know fluoride is FORCED in every water bottle in Canada, its sick and plain stupid

If that is true, I fully agree. Nobody should be forced to consume certain chemicals.

Hopefully it is at least denoted on the bottles, that flouride is contained.

ya.ya.yo!

this is how it works in the US:
Quote
The FDA standards of quality state that domestic bottled water with no added fluoride may contain between 1.4 and 2.4 milligrams per liter (mg/L) fluoride, depending on the annual average daily air temperatures at the location where the bottled water is sold. Domestic bottled water with added fluoride can contain between 0.8 and 1.7 mg/L fluoride, depending on the annual average daily air temperatures where the bottled water is sold.
http://www.cdc.gov/fluoridation/faqs/bottled_water.htm

here is a list of fluoride content on average in common bottled waters (it can't be avoided entirely):
http://fluoridealert.org/content/bottled-water/

like I said, good water filtration is good. :)

Hmm...thanks for the link but it's too expensive for my situation currenly, i guess i should try to look into these laws first and hope that we don't have that kind of shitty goverment.
